  1. Looking forward to it. This was awesome, but that'll be a nice way to cover more. For example, like I mentioned on Twitter last night, you didn't really get to talk about Paul London, what he meant to ROH early on, etc. Especially since he was a guy who seemingly came out of nowhere to become ROH's top babyface and first homegrown star. For a good year or so (maybe longer, I don't remember him doing much else that made super besides the 2003 Super 8), the only way you could see him was to get ROH tapes. Nobody (including RF) was selling the Texas stuff, if he was working anywhere with TV nobody was taping/trading it, etc. So stuff like his 60 minute match with Osamu Nishimura for Dory Funk Jr's BANG! Wrestling promotion became a holy grail; if it aired on TV (by the time I found a BANG! source, all I could get was a music video w/ clips of the match) nobody recorded it off TV, and Dory refused to sell tapes. Why? "They'd get bootlegged." I guess it's better to sell none?
  2. He did push Jeff as a heartthrob in Memphis, the problem was he didn't execute it well. There was a lot of backlash for the ad for his poster and it wasn't quite counter balanced the way the Fabs were pushed.

  4. His exploits include making a point of calling me on my birthday when he saw it pop up on Facebook, so,..yeah, pretty much.
  5. Both. We talk fairly regularly, but he was like that the first time I ever dealt with him.
  6. http://davidbix.com/the-bix-show-episode-002-lance-russell For the second episode of The Bix Show, we’ve got two different guests in separate segments: We start off with the legendary voice of Memphis wrestling, Lance Russell, who joins the show to, among other things, get us up to speed on what he’s been up to lately, including the Memphis Grizzlies’ Wrestling Night, the Gulf Coast Wrestlers’ Reunion, sitting down for WWE’s Jerry Lawler DVD, and his upcoming appearance at PopCon in Evansville, Indiana. We also cover all sorts of historical topics including some of his non-wrestling broadcasting memories, wrestling content that got him in trouble as director of programming, rescuing a bad promo, his enjoyment of Tony Charles and other British-style wrestlers, the unveiling of Dr. Frank, and much more. In the second segment, LaToya Ferguson, reviewer of Monday Night Raw (among other, non-wrestling shows) for AVClub.com joins me to talk about a number of topics including reviewing Raw as a TV critic more than a wrestling fan, how TNA’s Paprazzi Productions of all things got her back into wrestling a decade ago, and more. Time Stamps: 00:00:00 Lance Russell 01:11:05 LaToya Ferguson The show is also on Stitcher now: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-bix-show If you enjoy the show, please post a positive review on iTunes and/or Stitcher and do your Amazon shopping via my Amazon Associates link, none of which cost you anything. If you'd like to leave a tip/donation, you can become a monthly patron for as low as $1/month via my Patreon account or, for a one-time payment, use the regular PayPal donation button at the top of the sidebar on davidbix.com.
  7. Probably best to start with the NWA membership history listing on Hisa's site and work from there?
  8. Figured I'd upload a few preview clips of the Lance Russell interview from ep #2 since it doesn't drop until Wednesday: YouTube: http://bit.ly/1GumRcB SoiundCloud: http://bit.ly/1FumcX2

  10. Thanks guys! Lance was a delight as always. This will drop next Wednesday. Got some good suggestions to augment my own stuff here, on Twitter, and on the WO board. Anything I didn't ask was most likely because I had asked him about it in the past (whether on a podcast or otherwise) and knew it was something he didn't remember well or something like that.
  11. It'll always be secondary (later segment, too) with clear time stamps in the description, so it will never, ever get in the way of the wrestling content. It'll always be clearly segmented out and even then it won't be every episode (next week won't have any, for example), so please, please listen. Also as far as FSM gos, usually the only MMA content these days is in the major event & TV recap section, so you should be reading that, too.
  12. I think there's also a weird chicken/egg thing where wrestling fans seem to have a higher tolerance for longer shows. Dylan and I didn't plan to go as long as we did on the first Trade Marks, but it being the first in large part becuase of lots of stuff happening on top of the WM lawsuits topic turning out meatier than we expected made it, well, long. Though I figure for that show the length doesn't matter quite as much since it's more niche of a niche.Future shows will more likely be single topic I would think. My goal for The Bix Show is to cap at 90 minutes, whether it's all one shot or combining multiple segments.
  13. It definitely won't be close to every episode (I'll have Patrick back on around the Newark Fox card in a couple weeks, for example, since it's a big card and I'm going there as media to cover it for WO.com), but I'll always have it segmented/time stamped and almost always have it after wrestling content.
  14. http://davidbix.com/the-bix-show-episode-001/ Sherdog.com contributor/MMA preview expert and Heavy Hands Podcast host Patrick Wyman joins me to discuss his lapsed wrestling fandom being reignited by Brock Lesnar and WrestleMania chatter We touch on Patrick being a Nitro-era WCW guy who didn’t quite “get” Mick Foley, why Brock Lesnar is the most compelling man in the world, how Patrick knew coming in cold that Roman Reigns wasn’t quite ready, and more. After that, we move into the MMA and kickboxing realm with a look at UFC’s surprising strong morning/afternoon card this Saturday covering topics that include whether or not Ricardo Lamas is boring and the greatness of Al Iaquinta. Finally, we briefly delve into this week’s Glory card, as well as the awesomeness of UFC Strawweight Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Time stamps: 0:01:44 Patrick Wyman: Un-lapsed wrestling fan. 0:15:43 WrestleMania discussion. 0:41:58 UFC Fight Night: Mendes vs. Lamas 1:01:07 Glory 20: Van Roosmalen vs. Ristie 1:02:48 Just how awesome is Joanna Jedrzejczyk? If you enjoy the show, please consider using my Amazon Associates link and/or donating to my Patreon, both of which are handily linked in the post as well as in the top menu of davidbix.com.
  15. Haven't seen the Highspots response. Link?
  16. Was WrestleCon the first where the vendors had to sign agreements not to sell anything they didn't have the rights to, though? At WrestleCon, I don't recall anyone else even selling bootleg DVDs in the first place (to the point I was really surprised to see Bill there), including one well known online seller who went under his website brand for publicity but only sold above board merchandise like action figures. Also, unless they weren't around Sunday (I only went Saturday), I know for a fact WWE missed at least one vendor selling (really nicely made) duplicated vintage PPV posters. With hindsight I wonder what would've happened if anyone turned down the WWE "settlement offers." As far as I know, they didn't sue anyone like the RIAA did. I knew one guy who got hit and he was really, really upset by the whole experience, especially since he was not any kind of volume seller but got targeted because he had a website right around the time less and less traders were maintaining websites.
  17. Could've sworn I mentioned that during the show, but here's the page in question:
  18. Remember, though: They didn't seize all of the figures. It's more likely they only seized figures where the label on the baggie had some kind of WWE trademark on it.
  19. Yes, and in the meantime you can also subscribe manually using http://feeds.feedburner.com/thebixshow as the feed URL.
  20. http://davidbix.com/the-trade-marks-episode-1-the-52000-question/ Welcome to the first episode of The Trade Marks, the first episode of a new show from David Bixenspan (me!) and Dylan Hales A jumbo-sized inaugural episode outlines our concept and touches on: - The arrest of UFC/WWE torrent capturer Sir Paul and if it actually means anything. = WWE’s anti-counterfeit lawsuits to enable them to seize merchandise in the radius around WrestleMania. - The increasingly vocal anti-piracy movement in indie wrestling.

  23. Maybe. But then there was that Mark Henry line to Roman Reigns last night: “You young bucks, you think you know it all, you did it all. YOU AIN’T BEEN NOWHERE!”
  24. Haven't gotten to listen to this as much as I'd like to, but it's worth checking out for sure. He gets some unique guests and the shows are pretty laid back, plus where else can you hear Joe Pedicino and Bonnie Blackstone as podcast guests these days?
