Do you think Muhammad Hussan has a bright future?
Coffey replied to Coffey's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
Just to give this thread a little bit of new life, what do you guys think about the throat slit gesture? I actually was digging it. I didn't think that it was in poor taste. He's a heel and it was signifying that the end was near. It was during his finisher. Benoit does the same thing but I guess it's to his own neck and not to his opponents. -
When I see Rob Conway, I see potential. When I see Sylvain Grenier, I see him holding back Rob Conway. I think that Conway could be a break away star. The problem is, if you take Conway away from Grenier, what happens to Grenier? He'd just be another lost wrestler in a sea of under-utilized talent. Perhaps it'd be the other way around and WWE would only use Grenier? Would it be worth the risk though? I mean, La R?sistance aren't doing a lot as a tag team. Hell, even with the Heart Throbs showing up on Raw last week, you have to believe that the Raw tag team scene is dead. Perhaps they'd be better off if they split up? They've done everything that a tag team can do in this day and age in WWE already. With the draft lottery coming up, perhaps Conway could go solo and Grenier could get back together with Dupree? I don't get UPN, so I can't watch Smackdown. That being said, I don't know how well Dupree is fairing by flying solo. So, what do you guys think?

Alright, I just got done watching the match. It's from Turning Point, correct? I just want to make sure that I watched the correct match. It seems like the cage match that got a lot of praise in the past featured all three members of XXX. I can't believe that Christopher Daniels got color so early. It's like, two minutes into the match and he's already juiced. I guess it was trying to get over the importance of the cage early. I have to tell you, I think that the biggest knock that I have against this match is the damn camera work. From outside the cage, the fence gets in the way. From the aerial cam, the cameraman seems drunk. It does have an old school feel to the match though. The way that XXX cheats is classic. Then again, having to make tags in a cage match seems a little odd. I like that the match actually has double team moves too. That's something that seems to be lost nowadays in WWE. I think that I've grown immune to Don West now. I can completely ignore him at will. I guess that's a good thing, right? I don't like how the key to the handcuffs and the handcuffs themselves played such a big role in the match. That's just speaking for the match itself. I'm sure that it makes more sense because of the build-up leading into the match. It just seems like being in the cage would be bad enough. I assume it was to show that XXX had numbers and then AMW finally got the momentum to swing in their favor for once. At least it played into the finish. Outside of James Storm playing Ricky Morton while Chris Harris was handcuffed, there's really not a whole lot of selling. I mean, a guy will take a move and then a few moments later he'll be the one cleaning house. I guess it's because the match didn't have as much time as it should've, I don't know. It just seems like bodies should be laying around a lot more for some of the moves that were pulled off. The match definitely moved at a faster pace. I've never been a big fan of wresters using their opponents finish. Especially when it leads to a kick-out. Of course, AMW eventually won with the Powerplex or whatever XXX call it. Still, if felt lackluster after seeing top-of-the-cage Hurricanrana's and shit. I marked out for the top rope Powerbomb. I can't believe that Skipper kicked out of that. Angel's Wings also got a two count. I don't know if I've ever seen Daniels get a pinfall with that. The spots from the top of the cage were pretty cool. I think the cage walk overshadowed Daniels' elbow however. The "Tower of Doom" as Mike Tenay called it looked like an injury waiting to happen. I know I held my breath watching that. All in all, it's a good little match. A decent spot fest. I don't think it's the best match that I've ever seen but it did all tie together well. XXX used the handcuffs early and their opponents finisher. It didn't work. AMW used the handcuffs late and their opponents finisher and it did work. It was also an excuse to send Daniels flying solo and I'm all for that.

Brock Lesnar came from OVW and he's definitely better than Orton. Or at least he was. -
I'm downloading it right now. I'll rewatch it then let you know what I think because I don't remember it at all. I'm not even certain if I've seen it to be honest.

Set a VCR to record it?

Here's the time listings: http://www.tnawrestling.com/news/2004/5/26/news.html
-
Yes. I have two Fox Sports channels and one show of Impact comes on at two and the other one at three. I think the listing can be found on their website. Lemme look real quick.... EDIT: Go here and select your state.
-
Yeah, I plan on watching Impact weekly now. In fact, since I've started to not watch Raw anymore, I've told a couple of my friends that the weekly wrestling get together will be TNA now. It gives us something to do and a weekly wrestling fix too.
-
I actually haven't watched TNA in quite some time. WWE has been boring me lately, or at least Raw has, so I might start following it again. I won't be able to watch the PPV tonight since I can't order PPV from where I'm at but I do plan on downloading it after the show is over. I want to see it so that I can voice my opinion on it. I posted a "ban me" thread at TSM because the only real reason I still went there was for the WWE folder. The WWE folder over there is worse than the actual WWE. That's part of the reason why I've been posting here a lot more recently. I was kinda hoping that a couple of you other cats would start trying to follow TNA with me. Even if the product isn't as good as it could be, it'll give us something else to talk about. Or give me someone to preach to rather.
-
Well, from what I've read, it was Dixie Carter's idea. So, take that for what it's worth. Still, it looks like a last hoo-rah for Dusty as booker...even if he didn't have anything to do with it. As far as TNA the company is concerned, as long as they have Panda backing them, they're not going anywhere.

No shit. I mean, his catchphrase was "Oh my God." That might offend some people. Styles is just being a bitch because he hates WWE. -
Anyone know about this or plan on watching it? It's an all cage match PPV. http://www.tnawrestling.com/lockdown/index.html I don't know how I feel about the PPV gimmick but the matches don't seem to be too bad on paper. Just thought I'd make a non-WWE post and give you guys a heads up in case anyone was interested.

You know, had I thought of it, I'd have made this post a poll. Oh well, I'll remember to do so next time. -
You know, I'm usually not a big fan of reading match reviews. I would like to state, however, that it's a lot more entertaining to read reviews of bad matches that it is to read reviews of good matches. Well, at least it is to me. I especially like how HTQ points out why each problematic part of the match didn't make sense. It was just a bunch of filler and that's just one of the reasons why the match was bad. I swear, when I read a lot of reviews, I think that they start out with a certain score simply because of whom is involved in a match. If Benoit were to have a match against anyone and the match was nothing but botched spots and run-ins, I'm confident that it would still get at least two stars simply because Benoit was in the match. That's why I don't like reading reviews from people like Scott Keith or anyone else on-line really. It's not possible to not be biased when writing up a review of a match. When one of your favorites is in that match forget about it. I guess that's why you should read multiple opinions about each match though. If the general consensus is that something it bad, you might want to consider avoiding it. Or, on the other hand, you could seek it out on purpose to see how close to your opinion the general consensus is. The problem with that is that your overall opinion on what you're watching will be clouded because you'll be thinking about what you read. I think you should watch something and then form an opinion on it. Then read all the reviews from multiple sources. Then rewatch it and see if your opinion has shifted a lot. Sometimes it does as you notice new things or if new things have been pointed out to you. Of course, it's not easy to get that much time to do all that.

Do you think Muhammad Hussan has a bright future?
Coffey replied to Coffey's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
I don't think it derails the thread at all. In fact, it'd probably make an interesting topic. When I was talking about making threads about random questions, this is the thread that popped into my head. I think threads like this can bring about some good discussion. I think that Melina might turn into a really good character over on Smackdown too. Daivari better watch out or he might get outshined. Speaking of Maven and Hassan, you know who else stands out to me? Rob Conway from La R?sistance. I bet he'd be pretty good if he got a chance to fly solo. He reminds me of a lot of things that I liked about Val Venis a few years ago. See, I derailed my own thread! Anyway, I don't like the direction that Hassan is taking already. Why is he getting into a feud with HBK anyway? Since when is HBK all patriotic? Because he's from Texas? This is just another excuse to get fucking Hogan on PPV. It's pathetic. I'd like to see Hassan go after IC gold. Start his ladder climbing. It's not like people want to see Jericho hanging around the IC belt anyway. Hassan/Benjamin would've been a good feud. Now it looks like Shelton may turn heel. Hassan/Benjamin would've even wrote itself since Shelton was in the patrotic Team Angle at one time. Hell, they could even bring up his wrestling backround or something to throw some more fuel on the fire. Damnit! -

I mean, I like Hussan a lot. Daivari too. I don't think that he's the only person on Raw that I like though. To tell ya'll the truth, I've actually came around a lot on Maven. He's gotten himself into a lot better shape. Not only that but he's getting better too. Hell, he even talks every now and again nowadays. I think that Maven has a bright future too. That is unless WWE randomly fire him. I'm off the Batista bandwagon though. Ever since WWE started having him do comedy spots and the thumbs down pose it's just not been the same. My friends and I all liked him when he did the subtle things. Like the "guns" during his entrance. Now people point it out and think he's doing the cabbage patch dance. What the fuck? I wish MNM and Carlito were on Raw. I don't get Smackdown. Anyway, back to Hassan, I think that he should start working the back more in his matches. Start doing shit like a Russian Leg Sweep and a Back Breaker. It'd make his Camel Clutch make more sense in the end. I don't know what Joey Styles is talking about either. I thought the throat slit on the Clutch was badass. Distasteful? This is fucking prowrestling! -

I'm still waiting to see the "Magic Carpet Ride" ("Flying Carpet?") in WWE. I think that'd be comedy. The only problem is it'd probably get some fans to rally behind the duo and WWE definitely wouldn't want that. It's just a Frog Splash with the carpet but it looks hilarious. Too bad they have to wrestle Hogan and HBK at Backlash. I don't think they can recover from the loss if they don't win. -
Simple question really. Do you think he had a lot of potential? He seems to be a great talker. He has a decent look. He can garner heat in his current gimmick. He also seems to be improving fast as every match he's in, at least to me, seems to be better than the previous match. Of course, he hasn't had a match in awhile. Still, I like that he's using the Camel Clutch more now. I wasn't digging the Flatliner being his finisher. When he does the Flatliner to set up the Camel Clutch though, that's cool. I dig Daivari too. Actually, I might even like him more. So, what do you guys think of the tandem? As far as their WWE work is concerned.

What do you want out of the wrestling folder?
Coffey replied to Loss's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
I say we use wrestlers from Wrestlemania III to present. WCW, WWF & ECW. As far as criteria is concerned, I have no clue. I would just vote whom I liked better in the match-up. Of course, it'd just be from an overall personal opinion. Sometimes I prefer nostalgia or comedy over workrate. -
I haven't seen any of those matches, nor do I own any of them. I'm interested, the coming up with money is the hard part. I'm sure I can get seven bucks though. I'll let you know what's up. I have a question though, all of this fits on one tape? What are the match lengths?

Oh, shit ya. I'd be all for that. Especially if it were just WWF/WWE. As long as we don't go back to WWWF and Vince Sr. days, I'll know everybody. If we're shooting for best WWF wrestling though, we'll need criteria. I mean, are we going by workrate alone? Workrate, promo's, provided entertainment, feuds, matches? -

I'm not a big fan of the "list" threads, especially when it pertains to years. I can't remember '97 from '98 or '99. Just like I can't remember '90 from '91 & '92. Especially now that there's Raw and Smackdown every week and about fifty PPV's a year. I can't even remember the names of all the PPVs anymore. I like threads that spawn differing opinions and discussion. When it's just come in, name a match and dip that discussion doesn't really happen unless someone forces it. It's like all the discussion seems forced. Like someone has to take the "devil's advocate" role to even get the ball rolling. We usually just converse about something that we all share a similar opinion on. It doesn't bring a lot of discussion, just a lot of agreeing. I liked when we were doing the talk about certain wrestlers. I didn't like that we had, like, five at a time. I like to learn shit about dudes whenever possible. If we, for example, could combine what we've been doing into like one big daily thread I think it'd bring more discussion and we might even learn some shit. Like, have a thread about a certain wrestler. We can list what we like and dislike about them. Talk about the matches that they've had that we think are the best and possibly list the matches of theirs that we've seen which are the shits. Actually, a wrestler a day is probably too much. That forces the discussion to come to a halt at the end of the day. Maybe we could even list matches by certain people that we've seen that are obscure so others can seek them out? Something like that. Like their early days and whatnot. Also, I think we should focus LESS on Puro because of the people that we have here. I mean, I know that personally my experience to Japanese wrestling is very low...and I've actually went out of my way to read about it and buy tapes and shit. So, I'd like to think that my knowledge is above average. I'm a bigger fan of us talking about our opinions instead of commenting on what people at the Wrestling Observer typed out and what not. I mean, I like to hear about the little nuggets too. I'm glad I know about the Lita/Edge/Hardy shit and all that. I don't think that Meltzer's opinion is anymore valid that that of Loss or Goodhelmet or Sek though. We can have the informative news threads, like releases and whatnot, but I don't like it when it all becomes speculation and shit. We never talk about the indies either. We don't talk about Ring of Honor, TNA or OVW...ever really. Are there people that we should be on the look-out for that haven't had MotYC's in RoH? I don't mind reading tape reviews and shit but I think that's more main page shit. All you can talk about in the forums as it pertains to that is stuff like "good article" or "i agree." "Hey guys, I posted my new article on-line today!" "Great read man." You know, "natey2k4" or whatever the fuck his name is at TSM has a good idea. He just starts threads that ask a question and discussion takes off from there. Shit like should WWE have video packages for all PPV matches? Stuff like that will get differing opinions. I think he's a shitty poster but he has the right idea. If the original post were to be more descriptive and whatnot, like we're capable of here, we'd probably stumble onto some good threads. -
Jericho makes controversial comments on radio show

Have to love people that speak on the behalf of others. I don't care if Dave is his roommate, it still doesn't hold much weight to me.
