Yeah, it's sad too because Double or Nothing was a fantastic show, with good-to-great matches on it & I'm really amped for the show tomorrow in Jacksonville. Dustin Vs. Cody is my MOTY so far & I'm really excited for their show to debut on TNT. They've done a lot more good than bad & they've genuinely impressed me so far. I'm high on AEW & want to support them. That's part of why it's a bit baffling to me with the pre-show stuff. If you just skip the pre-show altogether, I guess it's a non-issue but isn't the pre-show supposed to get impulse buys? Which, if it's a free show, I guess that doesn't matter either. Heh. I really like Moxley & Dustin & I'm coming around on Cody. I have high expectations for Luchasaurus & MJF. I'm interested in what the women do. I want to see if anymore big names come to AEW. I'm excited as a wrestling fan again, for a U.S. based promotion that's going to be on cable television. That's not happened in a long time.

Exactly this. It especially looks bad after the Cody Rhodes interview where he's talking about listening to the fans, wanting to hear the feedback & being able to accept criticism. The criticism, damn near universally, has been the pre-shows suck & should be used to sell the shows main card instead, not do comedy bullshit. The Librarians suck. The Michael Nakazawa shit sucks. Sonny Kiss sucks. So... they double down on it all & keep doing it. That's the same shit Vince McMahon does that pisses people off. It's like being purposely trolled by a company. Damn near everything Jim Cornette has ranted about so far has been spot on. And putting your fingers in your ears, going la-la-la and pretending like people are "out of touch" won't help the company improve. It just doesn't make sense from a common sense standpoint. If the show is great sans for one area, why not improve that area? It worries me going forward, even if they're very young as a company.

So a white guy from North Carolina is arguing with a black guy about racism in pro-wrestling? ...not touching that one.

They're getting ready to debut on cable television. They gotta start all over anyway. You gotta draw in the casual fans.

WWE TV 7/1 - 7/7 The Return of the Return of Heyman and Bischoff

Wasn't Cena also the last draw, though? Even with half of the crowd turning on him. -
I feel like best case scenario for Shawn Spears is if he can pull off what Juice Robinson did when Juice left NXT. Which would be incredible as Juice is pretty damn good now. The issue is that Spears is also 8-years older than Robinson & almost forty. Which ultimately means nothing as Dustin Rhodes is fifty & just had a MOTYC at Double or Nothing with Cody. If Shawn Spears gets away from the Perfect 10 crap, which it looks like he is, I'm willing to give him a chance. I didn't like during the preshow battle royal at DoN that he was still doing the 10 crap but now with the chair shot on Cody & seemingly going heel, maybe that'll be the end of that. AEW is not good about comedy. They need to stay away from the majority of the comedy. They also gotta stop doing so many inside jokes or insider things. Assume no one watches the YouTube shows & explain as you go.

Tiger Hitori is retiring. Legend. Doing an upcoming show in New York at the Hammerstein. Ospreay Vs. Archer starting now. The start was insane. I was wrong about writing this match off. This is hype as fuck. Match was a great sprint, especially if you love BIG spots. Was a lot of fun. Got my super excited.

Missed most of the first tag dealing with computer issues but saw the finish & love the Super Bomb from the Tongans. The second tag match was great. I'm ready for Ishii/Cobb in singles. Cobb is such a beast. Third tag, not so much. Chase Owens has to be one of the worst in the company to me. I like Goto, but that felt like a nothing match. Juice Robinson looking like The Boogie Woogie Man. Yano has really grown on me. I like a lot of the talent in that match but again, just kind of there. Nothing special. Just early card fun stuff.

If we were to do another PWO GWE project, I would have both Terry Funk & Harley Race above Ric Flair. I was going to write this in an unpopular wrestling opinion thread but when I searched for that, it was from 2006 & was migrated from New Millennium Blues! Talk about a nostalgic blast-from-the-past.

July 6th matches: Ospreay/Archer, EVIL/Fale, Sanada/Sabre, KENTA/Ibushi, Okada/Tanahashi Okada/Tanahashi is always good. KENTA/Ibushi might be good but will be interesting, depends on what KENTA looks like nowadays. Sanada/Sabre could be good, if Sanada has his work boots on. EVIL/Fale will be bad. Ospreay/Archer, not a fan of Archer, so don't have any interest in that one.

He's better than SHAWN SPEARS.

100% genuinely didn't even know what his new gimmick name was. But even so, who gives a fuck? More people know him as Tye Dillinger. It'll take awhile to get used to, like Jon Moxley, and he had used that name previously. The point being that Carlito has been away for a long time, like Awesome Kong, so it would be a nice surprise. Tye was just in WWE & barely made it to the main roster. It's not shit-talking someone to refer to them as the name you know them by...

I'm pretty confident that CM Punk is not going to be at All Out in Chicago. I know that's not exactly a stretch or going out on a limb to say that, but it feels like I'm reading daily that people are like "I dunno..." Before I learned that CM Punk is now apparently suing Colt Cabana, I had a little bit more faith. But now I just don't think it's happening. Punk has said he's not going from the get-go, but in the world of pro-wrestling, you get the "oh, well that means he's definitely going then" mentality. Last time I saw CM Punk he was... scrawny. He was fighting at 170lbs, right? I mean, I guess the roster in AEW isn't exactly swole, so he would probably fit right in looks wise but man. Maybe that's just my own personal dated mentality but it's hard for me to take guys seriously when I'm twice their size, as a fan. But yeah, I don't think Punk is coming & the foreseeable future for the TNT shows looks like it will be built around Jericho & Moxley while building up Hangman Page & Kenny Omega. It's weird because AEW is in this situation where they've not even ran a television episode yet, but wrestling fans are so excited that we all want to just speculate & talk about what if scenarios. Could AEW get Sasha Banks, or The Revival or Rusev? I'm more excited to see what they do with their current guys that I don't know anything about though. Like, I would care a lot more to see Luchasaurus than freakin' Tye Dillinger. Or what if AEW were to bring back people that fans know, that aren't fresh out of WWE. Like they did with Awesome Kong. That was a genuinely cool surprise at Double or Nothing. Maybe they could get someone like Carlito? But ultimately, it's the angles that are going to matter more than the roster.

WWE TV 7/1 - 7/7 The Return of the Return of Heyman and Bischoff

The problem with Michael Cole is that everything out of his mouth sounds cheesy & corny. He's the antithesis of cool. It's been talked about before, but if he's the voice that's trying to get over your babyfaces, it makes you immediately not want to support the babyfaces. He makes them uncool. Michael Cole is the wrestling commentator equivalent to the middle aged white mom dancing to hip hop music in the audience at an Ellen taping. -

I feel like the two things WWE need to do to make RAW feel different (and better) are get rid of Kevin Dunn & get rid of Michael Cole. They both drag the show down in different ways. The camera stuff kills the enjoyment of visually watching. The commentary kills the audible enjoyment of listening. It's a TV show that you watch & listen to where the watching & listening is not good. That's like having fire that isn't hot or that doesn't burn. This show felt like a better step into the right direction but they gotta get rid of those constants that have been hindering the show forever. -

I'm not a fan of Mike & Maria at all but I love that they're trying different shit on this RAW at least. Try new things, see what sticks. I thought Cesaro looked like a beast earlier & all he did was have a no contest beating of a jobber. It was still effective. -

Baron Corbin's promo compared to Undertaker's was night & day. Corbin came off as natural & relaxed. Taker came off as corny & aloof. And I'm not a big Corbin fan but that was one of the better things I've seen him do lately. -
