[1997-08-30-USWA-TV] Interview: Tommy Dreamer / Interview: Jerry Lawler
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
I wonder was it intentional by USWA to make Dreamer look bad in cutting a promo into the wrong camera. Bill Dundee will be the special referee in Dreamer/Mantell match. -
[1997-08-30-USWA-TV] Dutch Mantell and Jerry Lawler
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
Too bad we didn't get inter promotional Title matches between Dutch and Hogan/Hart. Three way brawl when Tommy Dreamer shows up. He had a longer run there than I thought. Announcer refers to Beulah as Tommy’s partner. Beard took a big face first bump off a Dreamer punch. -
Rich creates a whole lot of havoc when he returns to USWA. The announcer has heard enough of Tommy Rich. He spoke for less than a minute. Might want to be more patient.

[1997-08-30-USWA-TV] VTR: The Downfall of Billy Joe Travis
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
The video package highlights how many announcers they were going through these past few months. -
[1997-08-29-WWF-Friday Night's Main Event] Interview: Truth Commission

Commandant looks a bit like an older Murray from the Flight of the Conchords show. Sunny checking out Bull Buchanan. -
[1997-08-29-WWF-Friday Night's Main Event] Interview: The Undertaker
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
Major head shake by me when Taker says he left Michaels untouched to be one to tell his story. Undertaker will face Triple H next week in an example of what will happen to Michaels too. They don't mention Michaels/Triple H are any type of team now but Taker seems to think taking things out on Hunter is something that will upset Shawn. -
[1997-08-29-WWF-Friday Night's Main Event] Interview: Shawn Michaels
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
Tennis booting Raw out of monday I presume. Michaels is really asking for it by carrying the chair around that he hit Undertaker with. Shawn had no other choice but to hit Undertaker in the head again with the chair. I don’t like this “not laying down” stuff he keeps bringing up. Shawn’s fans are down to mostly the female Kliq base. He gets the crowd worked up. I feel the fans have been waiting a while to really get to jeer him. -
I’ve seen so little of Hase’s AJPW stuff. Reading about his reason on leaving NJPW which is sad. Felt like they were trying to re-educate fans on wrestling without the head drops. Props also to Kobashi to going along with Hase. The crowd came along as match went on.

[1997-08-25-WCW-Nitro] Four Horsemen and Curt Hennig
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
Flair wants Curt in the Horsemen. Hennig is not ready to accept. Ric wants Curt to listen to Arn Anderson. Even before Arn starts talking you can see the emotion in Flair’s face. Amazing stuff from Arn in announcing his retirement. Flair is holding back the tears the whole time. Too bad this leads to the parody and Hennig not being the right choice in the Horsemen to fill Anderson’s spot. -
Dig it!

Tommy Dreamer and Beulah?

[1997-08-25-WCW-Nitro] Eric Bischoff, J.J. Dillon and Sting
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
JJ had set an big ultimatum for Sting on this show but isn’t here live?! I guess the focus was going to be on Sting/Bischoff to close the segment but strange that JJ would pretending to be Lee Marshall calling in by phone. Dillon finally gets it and what Sting wants is a match with Hogan! Bischoff of course flips as Sting comes down to the ring and stuffs a Hollywood shirt in his mouth. Excellent segment with Bischoff selling Sting big and still months away from the actual match with Hogan. -
Lots of slow-mo nut shots.

[1997-08-23-USWA-TV] Jerry Lawler and Brian Christopher
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
Dreamer going after Dutch Mantell’s title. Jerry doesn’t want Dutch losing the belt to Tommy and to keep it in the USWA. TV looks to be mostly from the studio show as we barely see clips from their live shows anymore. -
Ha. Nice story Lawler. I'm sure Obamacare would be the culprit this day in age. Saturday night timeslot is bad but they still get to replay on Sunday morning/afternoons. But that doesn’t feel definite. Lawler tells everyone to set their VCRs.

[1997-08-23-USWA-TV] Brian Christopher and Billy Joe Travis
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
That was cool to have them brawling as the crowd is waiting in line to get in the building. Fans are then filing in late because the issues outside. Easier to do this with the crowd size compared to the thousands that would attend a WWE show but it would look impressive. -
[1997-08-21-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXXV] Dinner and a Movie
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
Now we got a network for all these cooking shows. Dinner and a Movie guys join the NWO! One of them asks DDP if he is going to show him his cookie cutter. These guys were asking for it. Amazingly nobody gets the cake in their face but was a funny segment. -
[1997-08-21-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXXV] NWO Syxx T-Shirt Commercial
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
It’s a nice shirt. -
[1997-08-20-AAA] Heavy Metal vs Sangre Chicana (Street Fight)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
Dreamer/Lawler did their brawling in the crowd but wisely kept it relatively short. These guys spend a lot of time outside the ring. They don’t have a camera man following them around so you miss stuff. -
[1997-08-18-WCW-Nitro] Lex Luger & DDP vs Scott Hall & Kevin Nash
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1997
That was a hot tag! NWO interference happened too quickly though once Luger got in. Too bad they couldn't given it more time. -
At the Clash on Ted’s other network.

JJ is embarrassed by not being able to sign Sting to a match contract. Dillon gives Sting a deadline to talk to him. Maybe WCW’s struggles against the NWO comes down to how they are managed/run by someone like Dillon who comes off dumb not being able to determine what Sting wants. The crowd is clear on what Sting wants which is cool that they didn’t have to be forced into this chant.
