  1. So for this week's podcast, we're taking a page from an old radio show called "Desert Island Discs" and applying it to wrestling matches to try and break down some of the classics with a different perspective. So the question is, if you were being shipped off to a desert island tomorrow, and were only allowed to take 3 wrestling matches with you to watch forever, which 3 would you choose, and more importantly, why? Do you choose the best three matches you can think of, do you try and get a mixed flavour for what you like, or do you go for matches based on personal experiences and nostalgic memories? As always, the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly, so what would make your list of three, and what is the rationale behind your choices? EDIT - Part 1 of this series, featuring a great many of your contributions is now online and available to listen to at the following link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/5u7tdk/SCGRadio73-DesertIslandDuelsPart1.mp3 EDIT - Part 2 of this series, featuring a great many of your contributions is now online and available to listen to at the following link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/qyreex/SCGRadio74-DesertIslandDuelsPart2.mp3

  4. So, for this week's podcast, we're going to evaluate different gimmick match concepts throughout history in search of the one that, whether it be through its convoluted nature, a propensity for generating absolutely awful matches, or being a concept that is utterly horrid on paper and in practice, is the absolute worst ever devised, and as always, we're looking for your opinions on the subject. Which match concept did you dread the most or feel was utterly useless, and why do you feel it's the worst one ever put on a wrestling show? You can be as broad or obscure as you like in your nomination, and as always, the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly. So what's your pick? EDIT - The podcast discussing The Worst Gimmick Match Concepts Ever, featuring a great many of your contributions is now online and available to listen to at the following link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/xrjsh8/SCGRadio72-TheWorstGimmickMatchConceptEver.mp3
  5. Yeah I was waiting for them to mention that, given it's hype around his career, a podcast almost a year after his career ended has no bearing on the charge unless the defense let it be, which they did.
  6. Just to drop this in here, but the latest Squared Circle Gazette Radio is now up, and it's The Trial Of CM Punk! The debate is on, as the prosecution and defense discuss the charge of Fraud and Misrepresentation, in that Punk and his WWE career did not live up to hype that the internet fans and he himself showed upon him going in and throughout. Taking your witness statements, we debate his matches, promos, originality, attitude, drawing power, and overall influence on the business as we know it today. A tremendous debate and a big thank you to those who contributed, check it out and let us know what you think of the verdict! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/w98psn/SCGRadio71-TheTrialOfCMPunk.mp3

  8. As an additional point, what's everybody's thoughts on the hype surrounding Punk during the run itself. All praise valid and justified or somewhat overblown?
  9. For this week's podcast we're returning to our "court case" format to argue over CM Punk, on the charge of fraud and misrepresentation - in that he and his WWE career didn't live up to all the hype (the internet and his own) surrounding him going in and throughout. We're looking for your thoughts on which side of the fence you sit on. Do you feel CM Punk lived up to the internet cheerleading and underground buzz synonymous with his name for years and surpassed it, or do you think he fell short of his and his supporters' claims? As always, the best contributions (or "witness statements", in this instance) will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly. So where do you weigh in on this, guilty or no, and why? 13. It sounds like a song that would come on at the main menu of a Mega Drive game. I love it.

  15. Thank you very much (and thank you too Cactus) for the kind words. Typically here, F4W, the UK Fan Forum, TPWW and WrestlingForum. The variety of takes and different types of fan feedback from each place makes for a good balance I think.
  16. They are very dark, and that's with me completely forgetting to include the talk about the Benoit Tribute Show in the podcast description until today. Let me know how it comes off. I agree that the Melanie one feels far slimier. It's not much of a reach to think that Vince was relishing the idea to capitalise on this for the sake of a rating. Just watching that Raw back, the hype for the interview with Melanie is awful, and the possibility that this poor widow came on TV to offer a warning only to be blindsided with that "what are you going to do to support your family now?" question is God awful.
  17. For our first show of 2016, it's Part One of our Two Part Series looking at some of the Scummiest Moments in Wrestling History, as the panel takes your nominations for the lofty title, including talking Over The Edge 99, Al Wilson, the many lowbrow acts of Fritz Von Erich, the Lex Luger Confidential Piece, Oklahoma, Vince McMahon's treatment of Jim Ross, the exploitation of Melanie Pillman, the Benoit Tribute Show, the Muhammed Hassan angle with the Undertaker and many, many more, as we attempt to delve into the psyche of those who perpetrated them. 19. So for this week's podcast, we're going to look at some of the scummiest things wrestling promoters have ever done in a misguided effort to draw money, get somebody over, or attract attention, and as always we'd like your suggestions for this lofty title. So the question is simply - what lowlife act or tasteless decision, on screen or off, do you find to be the most scummy and appalling, and why? As always the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly, and given we're talking about any promotion ever, you're probably spoilt for choice. So what's your personal pick? EDIT - Part 1 of our series discussing Wrestling's Scummiest Moments and taking your suggestions is now online and available to listen to at the following link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/vhqi8e/SCGRadio67-ScummiestMomentsPart1.mp3 EDIT - Part 2 of our series discussing Wrestling Scummiest Moments and taking your suggestions is now online and available to listen to at the following link: http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/yge5if/SCGRadio69-ScummiestMomentsPart2.mp3
  20. Just saw this now. We haven't interacted much, but I just want to let you know that I'm wishing you absolutely all the best. And I don't mean that lightly, ALL the best. The best possible treatment, recovery, everything. I just did a little reading about your condition before I wrote this (primitive as the details that I read are I'm sure), and I think I speak for everyone when I say I wish stuff like this never existed in this world, and I can't imagine what you and your family are going through. But people have beat this, and you will too. I'm at work and so unable to sign up to the page you linked, but I'm hoping they've caught it at a point that surgery is an option. I know it's very easy for me to type, but anybody I know who faced this has told me that it did them the world of good to stay positive, so based on their words I can only urge the same, as you've mentioned you will. ALL the best. Liam.
  21. We'll talk about it more in depth on the Scummiest Acts show, but there isn't a doubt in my mind looking at all the timelines that he did. And thank you both!
  22. Just to drop this in here, but the Squared Circle Gazette Radio 2015 Christmas Show is now up! Talking current events, Year End Awards and taking your comments and questions, we discuss this past weeks NXT and Raw, possible WrestleMania matches, cringeworthy moments, useless bastards, scummiest acts in wrestling, underrated WrestleMania moments and all things 2015. With the aid of beer and mince pies, this was a really fun show. Merry Christmas everybody, enjoy! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/i7z9sw/SCGRadio66-The2015ChristmasShow.mp3 I also wanted to take this chance to extend a big thank you to everybody on PWO for the part you've played in the show this year - between feedback in the topics themselves, the debates in the threads and the kind words in response, it's all been very appreciated, and you've helped make for a very fun year for the show. Onwards and upwards for 2016.
  23. Well thank you very much :-) In truth the "If Vince Russo booked Christmas films" thing might carry my intros until 2016.
  24. After taking suggestions from all over the place, join us this week as we delve into the mind of Vince Russo, and look at the Unsolved Mysteries surrounding his booking tenures in the WWF, WCW and TNA. Tackling plotholes, illogical angles, contradictions and more, we look at the questions that were never answered. Who was behind GTV? Who raised the briefcase at King Of The Ring 99? Who kidnapped Samoa Joe? How did Vince being the Higher Power make any sense? A fun show looking at countless other isolated forgotten moments brought to your screens by Vinnie Ru, check it out and let us know what you think! http://squaredcirclegazette.podbean.com/mf/play/nshr5z/SCGRadio65-VinceRussosUnsolvedMysteries.mp3
