  1. The wrestler: haven't seen enough, but kinda liked what I saw. Any suggestions where to start with him? "The other guy": I loved his Dr. Watson in Murder by Decree. ... And Johnny Sorrow, if you haven't seen Bigger Than Life, I recommend it. He's awesome!
  2. Gregor: cool, thanks. Those were pretty much the years I wasn't watching and had to catch up on later, so haven't seen a lot of those. Will check them out at some point.
  3. Agreed. But I think he could have done it, and I would have liked to see a "Hitman" character (when he was a heel) sneak some quick wins. But hey, I'm a Bret-fan, so no complaints about what we got.
  4. A good match after Vader 95? I like his Mania match against The Rock. So to me, yes... Personally I really don't agree that Brock is "more a creation of UFC".
  5. Right? I'm really hoping someone has a bunch of great Bret Hart sprints they can point us to... Still, if I was to see a 5 minute Bret match, I'd probably just want it to be three times as long, because he's so great :-)
  6. Ted's awesome! He's high on the list!
  7. Damn. Checked it, and the Hakushi IYH1 match was close to 15 minutes... Maybe you're right... It won't hurt my ranking if him, but maybe you've got a point :-)
  8. Hmmm. Could be true... How long was the Hakushi IYH match? That was fun. ... Also I know the matches were longer, but his time in the ring in the first four Survivor Series matches weren't, and I think he managed to tell quite compelling and engaging stories in that time. ... But I've got to think more about great fun, shorter than 10 minutes, Bret matches.
  9. Come on. Hogan's selling works. Sure, some prefer more subtle or realistic selling, and some like Undertaker playing dead and then rising. For the character of Hulk Hogan what he did was awesome. And I don't see how his selling is any more over the top than Flair or Valentine falling on their face, or Austin's bumping as Stunning Steve. Those three will be way higher on my list, but Hogan's on there as well. Haven't heard the real sound argument against, and Parv's made plenty of solid arguments for. Plus his AWA, Japan, 84-87 WWF, early NWO and lots os select other highlights are more than enough for me. Add to that matches I totally enjoy outside the best periods against guys like Savage, Slaughter, Warrior, Boss Man, Vader, Hansen and others and I'm almost talking myself into pushing him further up my list...
  10. Makes total sense, Parv. Two things make me rank him higher than you then. 1: I love the kind of babyface selling you're into as well, and I actually find Bret's selling quite good, but I also like offensive babyfaces fighting cheating heels. And Bret fit that mold well. 2: Bret is as much heel as face in my memories (Swiss-cheese-holy as my memory may be), and I love his heel runs :-) ... He'll be in my Top25, and maybe even quite high...
  11. Full of respect for his career, his impact and the brand "The Undertaker". But it's still the kind of character and type of storytelling where I'm never completely lost in it. I'm constantly aware of what I'm watching, when I'm watching him, if that makes any sense :-)

    Vader

He'll rank high with me. One of the guys I can always watch. It's 89-94(maybe 95) for me. I actually think he was good and had good stuff in WWF, I would just have wanted him to get a push and run like Yoko's WWF93 or his own WCW92/93 in 96/97. So it's only the booking that makes me not include those years as prime Vader.
  13. He was never really one of my favorites. I see his qualities, but I agree with those with whom he just didn't really connect. So I still wouldn't have had him in my top half. Guess that's what makes it even easier for me to not include him at all. Like others have said: there are so many other great wrestlers to see and enjoy, that there's really no motivation for me to bring Benoit into consideration for this project. Have no problem others rank him, but I'm pretty sure I have a Mantaur match to watch instead :-)
  14. Actually... A minor positive for Piper's WCW run... I wasn't watching during those years, so even though I've seen the PPV's a couple of times now, the last time I saw WCW 94-98, I was so sick and tired of the NWO by the time Piper arrived (love the origin and Hogan turn, but damn it made for some shitty shows in the time after...), so when he arrived it was a huge breath of fresh air for me... Was it good? Not really. Some of it awful, and it's still the part of Piper's career I least wanna revisit. And in ring, holy hell a lot of it stunk. But still, after dragging my way through "all this crap in the ring", to quote the big man, Piper at least made me excited to see the next show. And I feel like that was always part of his greatness: Selling the drama, the story and the next chapter.
  15. If someone can suggest Mil Mascaras, I can throw in Bruno :-)
  16. He bored me to tears as a kid... How things cam change :-) ... I love The Hammer and will have him pretty high. Of the great stuff people reference, like others I really like the Piper and the Garvin matches. But my favorite part of his career has to be the Tito feud.
  17. Don't see him anywhere near yet. I agree he might get there eventually, but I think he needs 8-10 years and not 5 to come near a "cenaesque" resume...
  18. I wish his wcw stuff didn't influence me, but it does. I had some years of not watching that much, so only saw that part of his career later. And I'm very conscious of my view of in-ring Piper is negatively affected by those years. Fortunately the last decade has also revealed Portland and other early Roddy stuff, so he's still solidly on my list. In-ring to me is also character, audience interaction, story telling and more, and this poll isn't "Greatest mat wrestler of all time". A good fight, great entertainment and the ability to make me want to watch him against almost anybody has to weigh heavily as well for me.
  19. Top 100 of ALL time??? Absolutely not yet. Definetely might have a legit shot in 10 years time, or whenever the next poll will be, if he keeps up his current level. But I absolutely can't see that happening yet. I do however also agree with W2BTD that the same has to go for Roman Reigns. I would put Ishii ahead of Reigns so far.
  20. Ha! Johnny, you have a great future ahead of you as a casting director! I wanna live in the world where Fuji asks everybody; "You think I'm funny? Funny how? I amuse you?" ... Oh, hell yeah, Fujiwara, you amuse me :-D :-D :-D
  21. Jabroni! That's awesome! The mental image of Sheiky turning and finally being allowed to play up his true American patriotism made my day. The pop would've been legendary. He would have loved it too :-) ... And I'm all aboard for the Angle/Jericho closer to end it all. I say The Role Model is a lock for the 2016 Hall of Fame! What a career :-) :-) :-)
  22. Then we'll shoot "hidden cam" footage of him playing cards with the enemy. Every other week he'll do a ten second on camera denial or a "stay out of my business" when pasning Vince's mike. Then we'll have harder workers insinuate stuff to Martel, whose mind is as pure and clean as his teeth. You're gonna love it :-)
  23. Loved the show! Thanks guys! ... And Will teasing an extensive Memphis series??? Yes please, can't wait!
  24. Thanks Kris 😄👍 Savage: yes!!!! The Brain with The Role Model! You've just made me soooo happy!!! ... And I totally see "senile" Role Model going for "President of North America", claiming Canadian supremacy, and he could even be the manager for The Hart Foundation during the Canada vs US feud.
  25. SomethingSavage: hell yeah :-) Totally into that. Like Skaaland "protecting" Martel. Kinda like Mickey in Rocky 3 (hey, hey ... Tie in to Hulk as well). My inner fanboy would then love to see Hogan turn in the feud with Martel and keep Rick face, but there's no need to throw away all that good Hulkamania cash, so I'd go with your storyline. New main event for WM2? The Real American vs The Role Model :-)
