  1. New show on WWF All Star from March 7, 1981 feat. Pat Patterson in the Cobra Clutch Challenge. Plus - Titans of Wrestling: The Golden Girls of wrestling podcasts - SD Jones possibly has the flu - Yatsu, NJPW/WWF working agreement, and the Olympic boycott - Blassie is hung out to dry by Vince on a promo like a long bad SNL skit - Dominic DeNucci imagined as All In The Family character https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/greetings-from-allentown-38-wwf-all-star-wrestling-03-07-1981
  2. New show from last Thursday was on ECW from February 1998. Lot of bizarre personal confessions relating to towels, Tom and Jerry, and probably other stuff I can't remember. And I didn't even get to my story of acting like The Sandman in a frat house one time. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/greetings-from-allentown-36-ecw-hardcore-tv-02-25-1998
  3. Johnny's reaction to David Manning on this show had me rolling, but I'm also pleased because now the "Dick Woerhle role" from Titans has been filled for "referee who is far too obnoxious"
  4. To be fair, this was billed as a First Blood match and those always have weird endings. Wwf would use more or less the same finish at King of the Ring four months later. A little too much going on here, even by ECW standards.
  5. They did an angle in November of 85 where Elizabeth called out Hogan on the mic before a match against Rusty Brooks, saying he doesn't ever face suitable competition. It was on Championship Wrestling 11-9-85. So it LOOKED like they might be doing a Dynasty/Dallas thing but it was the only time I ever saw Liz play that role. Rather baffling in retrospect that she's trash talking the champ, then is totally meek weeks later.
  6. Just posted episode #30, a WWF TNT episode from August 16, 1985. I figured that doing a talk show might be difficult given that there isn't much in-ring stuff, but actually it was a refreshing change. Plenty of hilarity with Vince in his Johnny Carson role: Tony Garea talking about sheep in New Zealand, Jim Neidhart predicts wrestling internet culture without knowing what that is, Paul Orndorff gets upset about the bounty leading to a musical mashup, and Terry Funk starts and finishes a barroom brawl. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/greetingsfromallentown30
  7. That is really useful. Thanks. I was also looking at creative process tips I guess - like, what do people do to do their podcast? Tape all at once? Segment by segment? Notes? Scripts? Etc etc. Just what do people do when they do a podcast. I will admit that I am a bit of an outlier since I do a podcast by myself. As for the how: I tape in segments and will clean them up with production as needed as I go along. No scripts, but I make notes about items I want to say, jokes I might want to make, etc. I like to have an idea of what I'll be doing but also leave some room to riff as needed. Practice, practice, practice....helps for you to find your voice. Before I started Greetings From Allentown, I did 2-3 practice pods. That is also useful in terms of learning how to edit, etc in whatever program you use, like Audacity.
  8. New show for this week to kick off what I am calling a Fortnight of Funk....Terry Funk. Starting with his NWA run from May 1989 (NWA Pro May 20, 1989) before he was advised to tone it down, lest he hurt someone's feelings. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/nwa-pro-05-20-1989 - It is kind of funny that Funk comes in right as Road House is released, but isn't really there to promote the movie or anything (which I am sure was the idea with Batista in 2014) - Lance Russell is so amazing in the episode with his interplay with Funk and how upset he gets that the Rookie Challenge match is interrupted. - I was quite hard on the Ron Simmons-Randy Rose match but I didn't enjoy it in the least. - The Dynamic Dudes video where they eat pizza and shop for skateboards is the kind of unintentional comedy I crave.
  9. Some inside baseball on this episode: If it comes off as a bit weird, part of that is because I recorded the intro part last which I haven't ever done. So apologies if I made the same joke in the intro then in the show rundown. http://www.soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/the-sunny-show-03-09-1996 Basically I chose this one because I bought Sunny's book via Kindle after a few beers one night. And the free sample was much better than the rest of the book, as it went into her SMW stuff. The book has a LOT of problems, and not just how depressing it gets for the final quarter or so. Her Montreal screwjob conspiracy theory is so easily disproven by anyone with a long term memory or access to TV/Internet. They took WWF Mania and made it the Sunny Show for a week and this is what we got: - A fair-minded look at the career of Tammy Lynn Sytch and her key role in launching the WWF’s online presence - Shawn Michaels’ run to WrestleMania 12, his connection with Sunny, and the peculiar thing Sunny and Shawn would do back then - An appreciation of old commercials for bizarre merchandise, and how "limited edition" is something when it is hideous and they made 3,000? - Ranking the Bret Hart WWF World title reigns from worst to best, excluding the 24 hour one - Breaking down the Billionaire Ted skits piece by piece, with things that were funny, things that were slanderous, and things that backfired completely - Taking several minutes to slam JBL as a wrestler, character, broadcaster, and human being in general - The definition of “diminishing returns”: The Ultimate Warrior’s 1996 run - Goldust toeing the line of homophobia in Piper’s Pit - My struggle to find a theme song this week (since no one posts the "WWF Mania Theme") leads to a strangely produced number at the top of the show
  10. I was pretty hard on Dusty because I had seen so much of the TV in a short time and he just got on my nerves. Really a excuse to try out the "blow up" sound effect. Released this one yesterday on The Main Event II with all the bloopers. The biggest shock from my research: just how badly NBC got beat in the ratings that night by ABC and the TGIF lineup. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/26-the-main-event-ii-02-03-1989
  11. Thanks for the feedback on the show! The newest episode is on JCP: NWA Worldwide September 24, 1988. I became especially annoyed with Dusty Rhodes in prepping for the show. https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/greetings-from-allentown-25-nwa-worldwide-09-24-1988 My five favorite things from this episode: - Chris Champion as "Karate Kid" allowing me to talk about the 1984 movie for a bit since it's one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately, I apparently called him "Chris Kanyon" once and somehow missed it in the editing process. Oh well. - Ron Simmons as the "Just Say No" guy. I didn't remember this at all, must not have lasted long. - Watching Jim Cornette do babyface promos on all the TVs. He's like one of those "pest" players in hockey, you hate him but are glad when he's on your side. - Finding out that John Ayers and Terry Funk were best friends; can't believe I didn't know that so I should just get Funk's book. - JCP giving Dr. Death a microphone and letting him talk for 2 1/2 minutes, albeit under the watchful eye of Jim Ross. And then the Doc losing his train of thought and getting distracted by JR.
  12. The 1980s TV talk on Charles in Charge, Makin' It (though that was '79), and all that...loved it. That's like catnip to me. I see Garry Marshall was a creator of Makin' It. He had the magic touch then but apparently it didn't work for everything.
