AWA Championship Wrestling - 10/24/85 From the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City Opening credits play followed by a replay of the closing minutes of our last show. Bruiser Brody and Randy Savage defeat Ron Bass and Bobby Jaggers in a wild tag team match. Then we go to our ring for our opening bout. KENDALL WINDHAM(w/Sam Houston) v. local talent The Second Sons are proving to be very popular with the AWA fans. Windham gets a rousing ovation as he makes his way to the ring. He raises his right hand into air and the camera hold on the black glove covering his hand. Windham makes quick work of his opponent, locking a clawed hand on his forehead and forcing the submission. WINNER: KENDALL WINDHAM Cut to announcers. Trongard: Fans, welcome to AWA Championship Wrestling. Blears: Another impressive victory for the Second Sons here tonight. Trongard: Indeed. Both of those young men have shown marked improvement since coming together. Blears: We’ve got some great AWA action on tap for our fans tonight. Trongard: Indeed we do your lordship. North American champion, Adrian Adonis, will defend his title against former champion, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Blears: Piper won’t be out there alone tonight. Trongard: And we will see some member of Paul Jones’ Red Army defend the ESPN Television Title against a randomly selected member of the AWA roster. Blears: All that and more. Let’s head back to the ring. THE KILLER BEES v. local talent This one never even gets started as the Sheepherders charge the ring looking for revenge against the Bees for their rescue of Blue Demon Jr a couple of weeks ago. The mad Kiwis + Boyd take down the Bees, decimate the local talent and then further bloody the Bees. Boyd splits Blair wide open with the New Zealand flag before planting it in his belly as if claiming Boyd’s gastrointestinal tract for New Zealand. WINNERS: THE KILLER BEES via DQ Security hits the ring as the show cuts to commercial. When we come back, Lee Marshall is at ringside with Sherri Martel and the Midnight Rockers. Marshall: The three of you have been remarkably quiet since… Jannetty snatches the mic away and hands it to Martel. Martel: Since what Marshall? Since these fine young men were robbed of their titles? Since my purse was stolen? Since crimes were committed against us that have yet to be answered for? Marshall: I was going to say since SuperClash, but, okay. Martel: I am putting the Fabulous Ones AND Rick Martel on notice. What you have done will not go unanswered. These men and the world’s greatest entertainer, the HonkyTonk Man, will get revenge. Marshall: Speaking of HonkyTonk Man, where is he tonight? Martel: He is currently in Memphis recording an album at Sun Studios. He’ll be here next week to debut his new single. With that the dastardly trio walk away. Marshall: Let’s head back to the ring. RON SLINKER v. THE MISSING LINK(w/Angel) Slinker is back in action tonight. Unfortunately for him, his opponent is the Missing Link and the Link is intent on impressing his new lady friend. Slinker opens the action with a karate chop to Link’s head. All that gets him is a busted hand as Slinker grabs his hand and hops around the ring in obvious pain. Link unleashes a rapid fire series of headbutts and sends Slinker to the corner. More headbutts follow and Slinker hits the mat. Link climbs the second buckle and dives of with a big headbutt that leaves a smear of green greasepaint on Slinker’s chest. Link covers and picks up the W. WINNER: MISSING LINK Angel climbs into the ring and raises Link’s hand. VTR plays. The grotesque visage of Abdullah the Butcher appears. He stares wild-eyed into the camera. “Is he a man or a monster?” says a distorted voice from off screen. Abdullah leans into the camera. “Look at him. There is no humanity in those eyes. Abdullah the Butcher is neither man nor monster. He is an avatar of brutality. For too long he has been used by men to wage wars they were afraid to wage themselves. That time is over. The time for Abdullah the Butcher to be released upon the world is nigh and I am the person who will unleash him. You have been warned.” Abdullah chops the camera into static and we go to commercial. When we come back, Larry Nelson is standing by. He is next to something covered in a black cloth. Nelson: Fans, as you may recall, our tumbler was destroyed on our last show during an attack by the Movement on Rocky Johnson. I’m pleased to announce that, despite that setback, we will continue to give all members of the AWA roster an equal chance to wrestle for the ESPN Television Title. From now on, we will be using this to select our challenger. Marshall pulls back the black cloth to reveal a tan box sitting on a table. Nelson: Fans, this is an Apple MacIntosh computer. The AWA has commissioned the finest computer programmer in the world to create a program which will, each week, select the challenger for the TV Title. I’m told all I have to do is press this button… Marshall presses the mouse button and the screen blinks to life. The names of AWA competitors can be seen flashing by. The names move faster and faster until they are unintelligible. Then the screen blinks and a single name appears on the screen. “ICEMAN” KING PARSONS The camera holds on the name as it flashes on the monitor screen. Commercial break and then back to the ring for our next bout. JESSE BARR v. “BAD NEWS” ALLEN Barr has the unfortunate luck of drawing Bad News for his debut opponent. Barr makes a good showing early, but Allen goes into full judoka mode, tossing Barr around the ring and stretching him mercilessly. A pair of brutal judo strikes leave Barr wobbly and opens him up for the Ghetto Blaster. The kick connects solidly with Barr’s head. Barr hits the mat and Allen makes the arrogant cover for the victory. WINNER: BAD NEWS ALLEN A video, set to “Eye of the Tiger,” shows Hulk Hogan working out in the gym intercut with him wrestling around the world. Commercial break and then back to the ring and our Television Title match. Parsons is in the ring with Slick. The Russians, sans Nikita, are in the ring with Jones. The Red Army quickly confers and it is decided that Ivan will defend the title tonight. Parsons laughs as the bell rings. “ICEMAN” KING PARSONS(w/Slick) v. IVAN KOLOFF(w/Paul Jones and Krusher Kruschev) (ESPN Television Title - 20 min time limit) The two veterans lock up on the bell and we are off. It’s a solid back and forth match with both men showing both scientific and rulebreaking tendencies. Koloff whips Parsons into the ropes and sets for a Sickle, but Parsons ducks and rebounds, nailing Koloff with a Butt-Butt. Parsons covers for the two, but Koloff kicks out. The two men eye each other warily and lock back up. As they jockey for position, the crowd erupts into cheers. Rocky Johnson rushes to ringside with a wooden baseball bat in his hands. He buries the bat in Slick’s mid-section dropping the head of the Movement to the concrete. Then Johnson slides into the ring and proceeds to whip the bat into Parson’s mid-section, doubling him over. The ref calls for the bell. WINNER (BY DQ and SOMEHOW STILL CHAMPION): IVAN KOLOFF Koloff bails, grabbing the belt and waiting from ringside as Johnson continues to demolish Parsons. Another shot, this one across the back, sends Parsons to the mat. Johnson lays the bat across Parson’s throat and pulls back, choking the Iceman into unconsciousness. Whatley and Conway rush the ring to aid their compatriot, but quickly think better of it as Johnson starts swinging the bat wildly. Instead, the Movement pulls Parsons from the ring and help him and Slick to the back as Johnson stands in the center of the ring squared up like Wade Boggs looking for a skull to split. Commercial break and then back to ringside where Lee Marshall has been joined by Rocky Johnson, Brickhouse Brown and Koko B. Ware. Marshall: That was quite a statement you just made Rocky. Johnson: You know what Lee, I know what I signed up for when I became a professional wrestler. I signed up for long road trips, cheap motels and butt kickings. I SIGNED UP FOR IT! But the Movement crossed a line when they attacked me in front of my son. That’s not business, that’s personal. So, if that’s how we’re going to play this game, well, then personal it shall be. From now on, you clowns won’t know where or when we’re coming for you, but you WILL KNOW WE ARE COMING FOR YOU! Johnson slaps the bat in his hand. The wood makes a loud slapping sound. Marshall: Let’s head up to the ring for our main event. “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER v. ADRIAN ADONIS(w/Percival Pringle III)(North American Title - television time remaining) Adonis is already in the ring. Piper rushes the ring, sliding in, taking Adonis down and laying in fists. Adonis pushes back into the ropes. The ref attempts to break things up, but Piper continues the assault. Finally, Pringle pulls Adonis to the outside. As they regroup, Piper incites the crowd. Adonis makes his way back into the ring and Piper rushes him again. This time Adonis is ready. He sidesteps and clubs Piper in the back. The Hot Rod goes down on his hands and knees. From there things just degenerate into a brawl. Pringle repeatedly distracts the ref allowing Adonis to score some cheap shots that give him the upper hand. Adonis pulls Piper to his knees by the hair. Piper waves him off as Adonis balls up his fist. Adonis pauses momentarily to laugh and Piper delivers a low blow that drops Adonis to his knees. Once they are eye level and Adonis is clutching his goodie bag, Piper gives Adonis the double eye poke. Adonis flails on the mat with one hand on his crotch and one of his eyes. Piper again mounts Adonis and begins to punch away. Sensing the title slipping away, Pringle waves to the back. The One Man Gang and Jesse Ventura rush out, only to be intercepted by Hulk Hogan and Jumbo Tsuruta. The four massive men battle at ringside, but the Dynasty is kept from interfering. Pringle hops on the rope to distract the ref. Piper grabs him by his lapel and yells into his face, spittle flying. Meanwhile, Adonis has finally made it back to his feet. He sneaks up on Piper and rakes his back. Piper doubles up in pain. Adonis spins Piper around and fires of a stiff right. Piper again sidesteps and Adonis punches Pringle squarely in the face. Pringle falls off the apron to the floor. Adonis is beside himself, leaning over the ropes to check on his manager. Piper takes advantage of the situation, rolling Adonis up and taking a generous handful of tights for leverage. The crowd is aghast at the pail moon they are greeted with as the ref counts 3. WINNER (AND NEW CHAMPION): “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER Adonis is on his feet arguing with the ref. Piper grabs a handful of hair and one of tights and whips Adonis over the top rope, right onto the slowly recovering Pringle. The show ends with Piper on the corner buckle with the title held high. Trongard: Fans, welcome to AWA Championship Wrestling Blears: The Tropicana is packed and the fans are on their feet. Trongard: As well they should, your lordship. We’ve got a full night of action on tap for them tonight. Trongard: Later this evening we will see the in-ring return of Hulk Hogan as he faces Jesse “The Body” Ventura. Blears: And our main event promises to be a bloodbath as we, once again, have Bruiser Brody & Randy Savage taking on “Hangman” Bobby Jaggers and “Outlaw” Ron Bass. Trongard: Let’s go to the ring for our first match. SAM HOUSTON (w/Kendall Windham) v. local talent The newly arrived Houston comes to the ring to the strains of Thin Lizzy. From there he quickly dismantles his opponent and puts him away with a bulldog. WINNER: SAM HOUSTON Windham climbs into the ring and raises his partner’s hand. Commercial break and then back to the ring. BLUE DEMON JR v. LORD JONATHAN BOYD The young luchador has been making quite an impression since his AWA debut. Tonight he has his biggest test to date as he takes on the mad Kiwi. Boyd is befuddled by BDJ’s high flying arsenal, so much so that BDJ scores an early near fall. From there, Boyd mounts a comeback pummelling BDJ to the mat and grounding him. BDJ escapes Boyd’s clutches and launches himself from the corner. Boyd is in trouble. The ref begins to count. The Sheepherders hit the ring and attack BDJ. The ref calls for the bell. WINNER (BY DQ): BLUE DEMON JR The assault from down under continues as the crowd boos. The boos turn to cheers as the Killer Bees hit the ring to save BDJ. Commercial break. When we come back, Ken Resnick is at ringside with the AWA Tag Team Champions, Curt Henning and Scott Hall. They are joined by “The Axe” Larry Henning. Resnick: Gentlemen, you’ve been on quite a roll as of late. Curt: You got that right Ken. The tag team competition in the AWA is the best in the world. On any given night we may have to defend these titles against anyone from the Russians to the Fabulous Ones. Hall: There are no nights off for us and that’s just the way like it. Resnick: Larry, you’ve got to be proud of these young men. Larry: That’s a fact Ken. Night after night they put their titles and their careers on the line to defend those belts. Curt: Thanks Pop. Larry: But you know, watching them has made this old man itch to get back in the ring myself. Resnick: Really? What did you have in mind? Larry: I’m actually thinking about making a run at the AWA World Tag Team Titles. The crowd oh’s. Curt and Hall smile. Curt: Sure Pop. You go find a partner and we’ll see what we can do. Larry: Don’t you mouth off at me boy. I may have taught you everything you know, but I didn’t teach you everything I know. Larry walks out of frame and the tag team champs look on in confusion. Commercial break and then back to the ring. AL MADRIL & HERCULES HERNANDEZ v. local talent The newly minted team come to the ring to a chorus of boos. Madril starts for his team, but quickly tags in Hernandez. The muscle man takes things from there simply beating down his opponent before lifting him up into the rack. Before the victim can submit, Hernandez drops him onto the mat and tags in Madril. Al quickly slides in to make the cover. WINNERS: MADRIL & HERNANDEZ Commercial break and we come back to Larry Nelson at the hopper used to pick the challenger for the AWA ESPN Television Title. He is joined by a couple of special guests. Nelson: Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for us to pull a name to find out who will be this week’s challenger for the AWA ESPN Television Title. I’m joined today by Rocky Johnson and his 13 year old son, Dewey. Dewey, would you like to pull the name this week? Dewey: Sure! Rocky: You know whose name to pull son. Johnson smiles at his son. Nelson steps aside and Dewey Johnson hits the activator. A single ball splits from the rest and slides into the receiver. Nelson removes the ball. Nelson: It looks like tonight’s challenger will be… The Movement bursts into the shot, attacking Johnson. The brawl takes out Johnson, Nelson and the hopper. The hopper hits the floor and the ping pong balls go everywhere. Slick tosses Iceman Parsons the roody-poo stick and Parsons splits Johnson’s head open again. The Soulman goes down. His son covers his body. Parsons: Let that be a lesson to you little brother. No man can stop a Movement. The Movement leaves ringside. Nelson recovers. He holds up the ping pong ball while still sitting on the floor amongst the debris. The camera zooms in on the name. CHICKY STARR Commercial break and we come back for our title bout. CHICKY STARR v. A RUSSIAN (ESPN TV TITLE) Starr is in the ring as the Soviet national anthem plays. Paul Jones leads out Ivan Koloff and Krusher Kruschev. Kruschev keeps his head down. After a momentary conference, Jones and Koloff direct Kruschev into the ring. Starr starts to smile until he catches the look on Kruschev’s face. He is stone faced as he charges. He batters Starr into the corner and begins to lay in hard knees to the mid-section. He then whips Starr to the opposite turnbuckle and blasts him with a hard clothesline as Starr staggers out of the corner. Kruschev drapes Starr’s throat across the middle rope and then plants his knee in the back of Starr’s neck. A 5 count later and Kruschev yanks the rope sending Starr flying to the mat. Kruschev wrenches Starr’s elbow back viciously and then torques his wrist in a brutal lock. Starr quickly submits. WINNER (AND STILL CHAMPION): KRUSHER KRUSCHEV? Jones and Koloff enter the ring. Koloff takes the title and Jones raises Kruschev’s hand. VTR plays. It’s a replay of the recent match where the Missing Link rescued a fan from Abdullah the Butcher. The footage ends and we see additional footage of AWA Promoter talking to the young woman. We join the conversation already underway. Gagne: ...don’t like to see things like this happen. We are more than happy to refund the price of your admission tonight, miss… Woman: Angel. My name is Angel. Gagne: What a lovely name. Missing Link wanders into the shot, looking wildly at Angel. Gagne: Security! Angel: No, it’s okay. He won’t hurt me...will you? Missing Link nods slowly. Gagne: Amazing! How did you do that? Angel: I have a way with...wild things. Commercial break then we come back for our semi-main event. HULK HOGAN v. JESSE “THE BODY” VENTURA (w/Percival Pringle III) There is no question as to who the crowd is behind in this one. Pringle helps Ventura remove his exotic ring attire. From there, Ventura begins to pose. Hogan rips off his t-shirt and does his own posing. The crowd cheers. Ventura attacks. There is very little resembling scientific wrestling in this one. Lots of power moves followed by rest holds. An eye rake gives Ventura an upper hand which he uses to batter Hogan. Pringle is ecstatic on the outside. Ventura locks in a body vice. Hogan starts to fade. The ref checks his condition...once...twice...Hogan’s hand stays up. He headbutts Ventura, breaking the hold. Hogan is going wild, hitting Ventura with big punches and whipping him into the ropes. BIG BOOT! Down goes Ventura. Hogan off the ropes. LEG DROP! Hogan covers for the pin. WINNER: HULK HOGAN Pringle waves wildly to the back. The curtain parts and RODDY PIPER walks through carrying One Man Gang’s chain and wagging a finger at Pringle. Pringle heads for the hills with Ventura staggering behind him. Hogan and Piper celebrate in the middle of the ring as we go to commercial. When we come back, it’s main event time. BOBBY JAGGERS & RON BASS v. BRUISER BRODY & RANDY SAVAGE (w/Elizabeth) The bell rings and chaos ensues. The ref isn’t even trying to maintain order. He’s just here for the pinfall. Jaggers and Bass manage to isolate Savage and have their way with him for several long minutes. Savage tries to fight back, but he’s overwhelmed by cheap tactics and quick tags. As Savage sags in the corner, Bass taunts Elizabeth. Brody has seen enough. He hits the ring. The ref cuts him off and Savage gets choked with Jaggers’ rope. The ref turns around and Bass shoves Savage to the mat and covers. 2 and Savage kicks out. Savage crawls toward his corner. Bass lets him get close before cutting him off and putting a boot in his head. Bass drags Savage back to the corner and tags in Jaggers. Jaggers paintbrushes Savage several times before covering him. Savage kicks out again. Jaggers goes to the ropes to taunt Elizabeth giving Savage a moment to recover. Jaggers returns his attention to Savage. Savage eye pokes Jaggers and makes the hot tag to Brody. The crowd erupts as Brody hits the ring. He levels Jaggers with a clothesline and then hambones Bass to the outside. He rebounds and hits Jaggers with a second clothesline that turns Jaggers inside out. Savage is on his feet in the corner. Brody gives him a slap tag to the chest. Then Brody drops a big knee onto Jaggers. He rolls off and Savage launches himself off the top turnbuckle and crashes into Jaggers with a big elbow. Brody kicks Bass through the ropes and Savage covers. WINNERS: BRODY & SAVAGE Brody and Savage continue to lay the boots to Jaggers as the credits run. END

WINNER: RON GARVIN The ref raises Garvin’s hand in victory. Bad News Allen vaults over the guard rail and hits the ring. Allen raises his hands and the crowd boos. Commercial break and back to the ring. BLUE DEMON JR v. CHICKY STARR The veteran Starr gives BDJ the biggest challenge of his AWA career to date. He locks Starr in El Pulpo and gets the submission victory. WINNER: BLUE DEMON JR Commercial break and then we go to the ring for our first title bout. RICK MARTEL v. ADRIAN ADONIS(w/Percival Pringle III)(North American Title) Adonis comes to ringside with the rest of the Pringle Dynasty. Pringle, Ventura and One Man Gang stand in the corner as the bell rings. Martel wastes no time going after Adonis. Adonis moves around the ring, avoiding his challenger. Martel finally catches up with him and begins to lay in the strong shots. Adonis bails. He is surrounded by his team as they encourage him. Martel comes to the corner. Pringle yells to back him away. The ref moves Martel away. Adonis slides back into the ring. The crowd erupts as Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper come out to the ring. They stand across the ring from the Dynasty. Pringle is furious by their presence. Adonis is taken aback when they appear. This opening allows Martel to begin a comeback. Martel batters Adonis from pillar to post. Adonis ducks out of the ring, but he’s on the wrong side and finds himself face-to-face with Hogan and Piper. Adonis hotfoots it back into the ring, right into a giant dropkick. Adonis hits the mat and rolls out. He waves off Martel and heads for the back followed by the rest of the Dynasty. The ref counts Adonis out. WINNER: RICK MARTEL - TITLE DOESN’T CHANGE HANDS ON COUNT OUT Hogan and Piper climb into the ring and raise Martel’s hand. Commercial break. When we come back, it’s time to find out who will challenge Nikita Koloff for the AWA ESPN Television Title. The balls bounce around in the tumbler. Ken Resnick stands by to draw. Resnick: Fans, it’s time now to pick the name of this week’s challenger for the AWA ESPN Television Title. Let’s see who it will be. Resnick triggers the machine and one ball flies free of the others. Resnick pulls out the ball and his eyes widen. Resnick: Well, now this is interesting. Pull in tight. The camera pulls in close and Resnick rotates the ball so the name is visible. The camera focuses on the name… IVAN KOLOFF The crowd cheers as we go to commercial. When we come back, a pre-recorded interview plays. Kendall Windham is in the frame. Windham: I’m not going to lie. I’ve had a rough go of things here in the AWA lately. I can’t seem to get my career moving forward. I’ve been on my own with nobody to watch my back. But all that changes today. I made a call to a friend of mine. He was at loose ends and he jumped in his truck and came right up here. So here he is, my compadre, SAM HOUSTON. Houston steps into the frame and shakes hands with Windham. Houston: The Second Sons are here and ready to rumble! The interview segment ends and we go to footage from a recent local show. Once again, the Missing Link and Abdullah the Butcher brawl outside the ring. Both men are bloody. This time, the brawl runs into the audience. The crowd parts as the two monsters beat on each other. A woman slips on popcorn and falls in front of Abdullah. He reaches down and grabs the woman by the hair. The Link intercedes, headbutting Abdulah. The Butcher falls down. The Link helps the woman to her feet and pushes her out of the way. Abdullah picks up a chair and levels the Link and leaves. The woman kneels beside the Link as the action fades out. Commercial break. When we come back, Paul Jones, Ivan Koloff and Krusher Kruschev are in the ring, Kruschev has the ESPN TV Title over his shoulder. Jones: This is an absolute travesty! It’s worse than that. It’s a conspiracy! While Comrade Nikita is back in Russia training, the AWA is trying to destroy Jones’ Red Army. Comrade Ivan will not wrestle Comrade Kruschev tonight. That is not the Soviet way. The crowd boos. The boos turn to cheers when Verne Gagne comes to ringside with a mic in his hand. Gagne: As it turns out Mr. Jones, you are not in Russia. You are in the AWA. Ivan Koloff’s name was chosen and he will wrestle Kruschev tonight. If he doesn’t, we will strip your nephew of not only the ESPN TV Title...but the AWA World Title as well. Jones is furious. Ivan is even more furious. Kruschev leans in and whispers something to Koloff. Gagne: What will it be? Koloff nods stoically. Jones leaves the ring and the bell rings. IVAN KOLOFF v. KRUSHER KRUSCHEV (ESPN TV Title) Koloff gives Kruschev instructions. Kruschev nods. They lock up and Koloff whips Kruschev into the ropes. Kruschev shoulder blocks Koloff to the mat. Koloff pops up, shouting at Kruschev in Russian. The pair log up again and this time Kruschev bodyslams Koloff. Once again Koloff steps up and shouts at Kruschev. Jones calls Kruschev to the ropes. He instructs Kruschev to lay down for Koloff. Kruschev shakes his head and turns back to Koloff. Ivan hits Krusher with a big clothesline and then a knee drop. Ivan covers for a 2 but Kruschev kicks out. Ivan is red with fury at this point. He shoves Kruschev. Kruschev shoves him back. Jones shouts out for Kruschev to lay down again. Kruschev forearms Koloff. Koloff returns the blow. The two men stand in the center of the ring and pound away on each other. Jones climbs onto the apron and shouts at Kruschev. Kruschev whips Koloff into the ropes, knocking Jones to the floor. Kruschev rushes Koloff. Koloff ducks and flips Kruschev to the outside. The ref backs Koloff away. Kruschev climbs to his feet. From the floor, Jones grabs hold of Kruschev’s leg. The ref counts. Kruschev pushes Jones away and slides back into the ring. Koloff meets him with a high knee and climbs to the top. He leaps off with a knee drop onto Kruschev and covers. He grabs a handful of tights to get an extra edge. It’s enough. WINNER (AND SOMEHOW ESPN TV CHAMPION): IVAN KOLOFF Koloff and Jones leave the ring with the belt. Kruschev looks on forlornly. He eventually leaves the ring and follows the rest of the Red Army to the back. Commercial break and then back to the ring for our television main event. THE FABULOUS ONES v. THE MIDNIGHT ROCKERS(w/Sherri Martel) (North American Tag Team Titles) From the first note of “Sharp Dressed Man” to the final note of “Living After Midnight,” the crowd is on their feet. The bell rings and we are off. Both teams execute fast paced offense and frequent tags to keep the action moving. Sherri inserts herself in the match early on and gives her team the advantage. They isolate Keirn for several minutes, isolating him and working his legs. Keirn tags a shortcut, thumbing Michaels in the eye and making a hot tag. Lane comes in and cleans house. The crowd is on fire as Lane stands alone in the ring. Sherri gets her team focused and sends Jannetty back into the ring. The action continues. Both team are at the top of their game. HonkyTonk Man comes to the ring with his guitar. The crowd boos him as he gyrates. The Fabs make a tag, but the ref doesn’t see it. He pushes Lane back to the outside, leaving a beaten Keirn at the mercy of the Rockers. As Lane argues with the ref, HTM hands Michaels the guitar. Michaels winds up and swings...JUST AS KEIRN GIVES JANETTY A DESPERATION SHOVE. Michaels waffles Jannetty with the guitar. Jannetty goes down. Kiern falls onto Jannetty. The ref starts to count. Michaels hits the ring, but he is cut off by a thrust kick from Lane. The 3 is counted and we have new champions! WINNERS (AND NEW CHAMPIONS): THE FABULOUS ONES The Fabs grab the titles and head into the crowd. The show ends with the Fabs celebrating their title victory.

AWA Championship Wrestling - 9/12/20 From the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City Broadcast Nationwide on ESPN The show opens with highlights from SuperClash. Roddy Piper makes a mockery of Ron Slinker. Hall & Henning retain the Tag Titles. Nikita Koloffy retains the World Title in a tough match with Jumbo Tsuruta. Then we go to the ring for our opening bout. JESSE VENTURA(w/Percival Pringle III) v. local talent Ventura makes his in-ring debut to a chorus of boos in the studio. Pringle tries to shut them down, but they continue. Ventura ignores them and goes to work on his opponent. After a few minutes of brutality, Ventura locks on his patented inverted body vice and squeezes for the submission. WINNER: JESSE VENTURA Cut to announcers. Trongard: On the heels of SuperClash, we welcome you back to AWA Championship Wrestling. Blears: We’ve got a great show on tap tonight, including an ESPN TV title match. Trongard: Nikita Koloff is the champion, but we don’t know which Russian will be here to defend the title. Blears: We will also see “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Bruiser Brody in tag team action. Trongard: And we will also see the much anticipated debut of Bad News Allen. Blears: Let’s go to the ring. TYREE PRIDE v. BAD NEWS ALLEN Pity Tyree Pride. Allen walks out with a determined look on his face and proceeds to decimate Pride with a display of high level judo. He ends the match after nailing Pride with the Ghetto Blaster. WINNER: BAD NEWS ALLEN Commercial break. When we come, Bad News Allen is at ringside with Larry Nelson. Nelson: Mr. Allen… Allen grabs the mic and shoves Nelson out of frame. Allen: I want everyone in the AWA to listen and listen good. I’m not here to make friends. I’m not here to join factions. I’m here to win matches and get paid and, since champions get paid more, I’m here to take your titles. I don’t care who you are or where you’re from. Bad News is here and you are on notice. Allen drops the mic and stomps away. VTR plays. Nick Bockwinle is dressed to the nines and a mic. Bockwinkle: Earlier tonight I wrestled Ron Garvin to a time limit draw. Mr. Garvin was a tremendous competitor and I am pleased to have shared the ring with him. But right now I want to address a more insidious foe. I want to address the man currently holding the AWA World Heavyweight Title. Nikita Koloff. Koloff, I’ve heard your threats. I’ve seen your matches. You are a formidable opponent for any man. But I’m not any man. I’m a multi-time world champion. I understand what it means to hold that belt. I know the pressure it puts on a man. I know the mental toll it takes on you. You are a force of nature Mr. Koloff, but, then again, so am I. See you soon. Commercial break. When we come, Ken Resnick is at the lottery machine used to determine the next contender for the ESPN TV Title. The balls are flying around pell mell. Resnick: Fans, it’s time for us to find out who will challenge for the ESPN TV Title this week. Resnick pushes the activation button and one ball breaks free from mass and lands in the receiver. Resnick pulls out the ball and looks at the name. Resnick: Ladies and gentlemen, tonight’s title contender is...DINO BRAVO!!! The crowd erupts at the mention of the Canadian strong man’s name. Commercial break. When we come back it's time for Fiesta Garden. The set has been hammered back together poorly after Bruiser Brody's entrance a few weeks ago. Al Madril and Chicky Starr are both in attendance. Madril has a mic. The crowd boos. Madril: Welcome, once again to the most entertaining segment on AWA TV...The Fiesta Garden. I'm your host, Al Madril. He's Chicky Starr. Starr: Come on Al! Don't like that! Do we have a guest this week? Madril: Yeah, ese, we've got a very special guest, but before I bring them out, I think we need to talk about what happened at SuperClash. Starr: What do you mean Al? Madril: I mean you cost us the AWA World Tag Team Titles. Starr: I cost us? Madril: yeah...you! Roll the footage. Footage plays showing Starr taking a dropkick from Curt Henning and getting pinned. Madril: YOU! I'M TIRED OF CARRYING YOU! Starr: Watch yourself Al. Madril: You know what, you're right Chicky. Let's go ahead and bring out our guest. Starr: That's more like it. Madril: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to the Fiesta Garden, my new tag team partner... Starr: What? Madril: ...HERCULES HERNANDEZ! Hernandez stalks out behind Starr. Starr realizes he's in trouble when the massive shadow falls over him. Madril: Bye Chicky! Hernandez hoists Starr up into a backbreaker and then heaves him through the ragged set. Madril raises Hernandez's hand as the camera zooms in on the broken body of Chicky Starr lying in the remains of the Fiesta Garden. Commercial break Then back to the ring for tag team action. BILLY TRAVIS & KENDALL WINDHAM v. RANDY SAVAGE & BRUISER BRODY(w/Elizabeth) The unorthodox team of Savage and Brody hit the ring to a round of cheers. Their recent brawl with Bass and Jaggers is still fresh on everyone’s mind...especially theirs. Brody whips Windham over the top rope and the duo take the fight to Travis. They show remarkable fluidity utilizing quick tags and hard hitting blows. Brody tags Savage and lands a flying knee and rolls out of the way as Savage lands a flying elbow drop and covers for the 3. WINNERS: BRODY & SAVAGE Commercial break. When we come back, Brody, Savage and Elizabeth are at ringside. Nelson: Bruiser, Macho Man, an impressive outing tonight. Savage: Larry Nelson...you’re looking at the most unpredictable team in professional wrestling...yeah....Bruiser Brody and the Macho Man are on the warpath and we aren’t going to stop until we run Ron Bass and Bobby Jaggers out of the AWA...yeah… Brody: We don’t need wins! We just need to bust enough heads to make our point! Huss! Savage: Remember what Clint Eastwood said...when you hang a man you better look at him! Dig It! Savage spins out and Brody barks at the camera. Commercial break. When we come back, Dino Bravo is in the ring for his title match. The Russian National Anthem plays over the PA. Paul Jones leads Ivan Koloff and Krusher Kruschev to the ring. Kruschev has the belt around his waist. The diabolical trio climb into the ring. Jones has a mic. Jones: You would think after what Nikita Koloff did to Jumbo Tsuruta last week, nobody would want to step into the ring. Then again, looking at you Bravo, I guess nobody did. Bravo takes a step forward. Ivan: Canada is weak! Weaker even than USA! You will be no threat to the title. Kruschev takes the title off and hands it to Ivan. As Bravo watches the exchange, Nikita Koloff rushes the ring behind Bravo. He chop blocks Bravo. Jones tells the ref to ring the bell. DINO BRAVO v. NIKITA KOLOFF (ESPN TV TITLE) Bravo is down, clutching his knee. Koloff lays the boots to Bravo. Then he pulls the big Canadian to hit feet and press slams him. Bravo grabs a rope and tries to pull himself up. Koloff helps him up and then whips him into the ropes. Koloff loads up the sickle, but Bravo manages to duck it. He bounces back off the opposite ropes and nails Koloff with a shoulder tackle. Bravo mounts and lays in some stiff punches. Koloff muscles Bravo off of him and climbs to his feet. Bravo is still favoring his injured knee. Koloff circles. Jones distracts the ref as Bravo backs himself into the ropes. On the rebound, Ivan grabs enough of his ankle to cause Bravo to stumble. This gives Nikita all the opening he needs. When Bravo gets back to his feet he is greeted with a Russian Sickle and a cover. WINNER (AND STILL CHAMPION): NIKITA KOLOFF The Russians climb into the ring and drape the Russian flag over the prone body of Bravo. Commercial break. When we come back, Larry Nelson is at ringside with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Nelson: Hot Rod, you made quite an impression last week at SuperClash. Piper: Who...little old me? All I did was beat up Ron Slinker and redistribute a little bit of his wealth. No big deal. Nelson: You also declared open season on the Pringle Dynasty. Piper pulls the $100 bill out of his pocket. Piper: Well, I guess I did do that didn’t I. Nelson: Aren’t you worried that Pringle will bring… As if on cue, Pringle and his charges walk out to ringside. Nelson: Hold on now! We don’t want any trouble out here. Pringle: Too bad Larry Nelson. Trouble is what you got. You should really watch what you say about me Piper. My Dynasty doesn’t take kindly to you disparaging me. Piper: Come on Porky...I mean Percy...I’m just out here talking to my good buddy, Larry Nelson. Why don’t you four waddle back to craft services and polish off the rest of the buffett. That’s enough for Pringle. He orders his team to attack. Piper fights them off as best he can, but he’s outnumbered...until… “EYE OF THE TIGER” begins to play on the PA and HULK HOGAN hits ringside. He lays into the One Man Gang allowing Piper to catch a breath. Shocked by the appearance of Hogan, Pringle calls off his Dynasty. They back away as Hogan rips off his shirt and Piper laughs maniacally. Final shot of the night is Hogan and Piper shaking hands. END

AWA SuperClash I - 9/7/85 From Chicago Stadium Broadcast live on WGN The opening credits for the show play and we go to our announcers. Trongard: Fans, welcome to SUPERCLASH! Blears: The AWA is broadcasting live from coast to coast on Superstation WGN! Trongard: This event came together very quickly. Here to explain is AWA promoter, Verne Gagne. VTR plays. Gagne: I’d like to welcome everyone in attendance and everyone watching at home to SuperClash I! The AWA has been in negotiations with our partners at WGN for months to bring our programming to the entire nation. SuperClash is the result of those negotiations. Moving forward, the AWA will present a SuperClash event quarterly on WGN featuring the hottest stars in all of professional wrestling. Thanks for your time. Let’s go to the action. VTR ends and we go to the ring for our first match. ERIC EMBRY (from MACW) v. BLUE DEMON JR The Flamboyant One, who is currently under contract to the Mid-Atlantic promotion, has signed up to face the debuting luchador. It’s a clash of styles from the opening bell as Embry goes for a decidedly Southern offense which Blue Demon Jr counters with high flying lucha libre moves. Embry’s wiles give him an upper hand. They also prove to be his undoing as he gets cocky. Embry whips BDJ into the ropes looking for a backdrop. BDJ flips over Embry’s back and takes him to the mat with El Pulpo. Embry is trapped in the octopus hold and forced to submit. WINNER: BLUE DEMON JR The luchador climbs a corner buckle to celebrate. The crowd cheers. Promo video for the imminent arrival of Bad News Allen plays. Back to the ring. KILLER BEES v.THE SHEEPHERDERS Another stylistic mismatch (who is booking this show anyway). Lord Jonathan Boyd at ringside is the difference maker. He is able to chip, goad and bother the Bees throughout the match. Most importantly, he’s able to whack B. Brain Blair with the New Zealand flag as he’s perched on the top turnbuckle. Blair takes a hard fall and is the victim of the Battering Ram. WINNERS: THE SHEEPHERDERS Video shows Nikita Koloff preparing for his title match with encouragement from Ivan Koloff and Paul Jones. RON GARVIN v. NICK BOCKWINKLE A pair of top contenders face off in a one-on-one match with championship implications. Bockwinkle has Garvin scouted and avoids the “hands of stone” that have made short work of a great portion of the roster. Likewise Garvin avoids Tricky Nicky’s scientific repertoire. Both men put in a solid performance that takes the match to the time limit. DRAW Garvin and Bockwinkle size each other up and give each other an approving nod. Promo for AWA Championship Wrestling on ESPN plays. The promo features the lottery machine. Balls ping and tumble. “WHO WILL BE NEXT? TUNE IN TO FIND OUT!” Back to the ring. MIDNIGHT ROCKERS & HONKYTONK MAN(w/ Sherri Martel) v. THE FABULOUS ONES & RICK MARTEL Sherri brings her team to the ring first. HTM grabs a mic. HTM: Thank you! You’re a beautiful audience! Boos. HTM: As you can see, the Honkytonk Man is under new management and Queen Sherri is going to leave the entire wrestling world all shook up! Thankyouverymuch! “Sharp Dressed Man” begins to play. The arena erupts as The Fabulous Ones make their in-ring AWA debut. So much talent in one ring brings the crowd to its feet for the duration. The Fabs and the Rockers utilize quick tags and dazzling offense to start things off. Michaels is on the receiving end of a Fabs double team and reaches out to tag HTM. Lane tags in Martel. HTM attempts to beg off as Martel attacks. The former ESPN TV champ gets a measure of revenge as he pummels a crawling HTM around the ring. HTM’s pompadour is all askew when he finally makes a tag to Jannetty. Martel gets whipped into the ropes, leapfrogs Jannetty and hits a high cross body for a 2. Jannetty crawls back to his corner and tags in Michaels. Shawn enters the ring and yells at the ref to move Martel back. As the ref turns his back, Sherri slips her beaded purse to Michaels. Martel pushes past the ref and gets clocked by the purse. Rather than fall down, Martel staggers back to his corner and tags Lane. Lane enters the ring and tags Keirn. The Fabs have a five count and it’s all they need. They nail Michaels with a Fabulous Double Spin Kick. Michaels hits the mat, dropping the purse. Lane covers. Jannety climbs in to save his partner only to be waffle by Keirn with the purse. Jannetty goes down. The ref doesn’t see it as he is busy counting the fall. WINNERS: THE FABULOUS ONES & RICK MARTEL Sherri argues with the ref as the faces celebrate their victory. Keirn flings the purse into the audience bringing a screech of anger from Sherri. INTERMISSION RON SLINKER v. RODDY PIPER Slinker is the first one out. He’s back in his old ring gear. Bagpipes announce the arrival of the Hot Rod. As he enters the ring, Slinker calls for a mic. Piper looks at him with his head cocked and a smirk on his face. Slinker: Mr. Piper, I think you and I have had a misunderstanding. You see, I’m just a working man. I got a business offer that was too good to pass up. Rent was due brother. But, just to show there are no hard feelings, I want to give you this. Slinker reaches into his well worn gi pants and pulls out an envelope. Slinker: We square? Piper takes the envelope and opens it up. He pulls out some cash. Piper: Are you trying to buy me off Ronnie? Slinker nods enthusiastically. Piper extends his hand. Slinker grabs it and Piper pokes him in the eyes with the other hand. Slinker drops the envelope and grabs his face. Piper low blows him and tells the ref to ring the bell. The ref obliges. Piper slaps on a sleeper and Slinker is done for. WINNER: RODDY PIPER Piper grabs the mic. Piper: I don’t want you’re money Slinker! You earned it. I just hope it was worth it. Piper looks at the envelope. He picks it up smiling. He pulls one bill out and then flings the envelope into the crowd. The crowd erupts as it begins to rain cash at ringside. Piper: You’re not the only one with rent due Slinker. Piper pops the lone remaining bill. Piper: You see this Pringle? This is the last of your blood money and I’m going to carry it with me everywhere I go until I destroy your dynasty and shove this right down your fat little face! You want a war? YOUGOTIT! The bagpipes play again as Piper heads to the back. GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING Footage from another encounter between Abdullah the Butcher and the Missing Link plays. The mat and the combatants are already stained with blood as we join the chaos. The pair of monsters stumble out of the ring and brawl into the terrified crowd. The sea of humanity parts as the pair continue to destroy one another until they disappear out of sight. Back to the ring. AL MADRIL & CHICKY STARR v. CURT HENNING & SCOTT HALL(w/Larry Henning) (AWA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES - 60 min time limit) No confusion on who the crowd is behind in this one. The champs put on a clinic with both men getting in a variety of impressive moves. Starr gets isolated and double teamed into oblivion. Madril tries to interfere, but is stopped by Larry Henning on the outside. Henning backs Madril down, but while all this is happening, Starr gets nailed with a pinpoint dropkick from Curt Henning. The 3 is inevitable. WINNERS (AND STILL CHAMPIONS): HENNING & HALL After the match, Madril and Starr argue as the champions celebrate their victory. Backstage, Jumbo Tsuruta is seen preparing for his world title match. ROCKY JOHNSON, BRICKHOUSE BROWN & KOKO B. WARE v. THE MOVEMENT(w/Slick) (Chicago Street Fight) This one promises to be a brutal and likely bloody affair. Slick gets in the face of Rocky Johnson, berating him for associating with Brown & Ware. Johnson takes all he can and then gives Slick a shove that sends the manager pinwheeling through the ring to the outside. And it’s on. The ref doesn’t even attempt to maintain order. He’s just there to count the fall. Parson goes after Johnson while Brown, Ware, Conway and Whatley brawl it out with one another. The Movement uses every dirty trick in the book to gain an advantage. It works. Ware gets tangled in the ring ropes and choked by Slick. Brickhouse is double teamed by the Movement. Johnson and Parsons battle out to the floor. Parson posts Johnson, busting him open. As Johnson staggers, Parsons grabs a hair. He bends it over Johnson’s head. He follows it up with another pair of brutal chairshots. The Soul Man is down. Koko sags in the ropes. That leaves Brickhouse alone against the collective evil of The Movement. He throws wild punches. Some land. Most don’t . Whatley clips him. Brown goes down and disappears beneath the Movement who are on him like sharks smelling blood. Slick tosses a cane into the ring to Parsons. Parson jabs the stick into Brown’s throat. Brickhouse clutches his throat and Parsons clobbers him with the Rooty-Poo stick. Whatley sits on Brown’s chest, grabs a leg and leans back. The ref counts the fall. WINNERS: THE MOVEMENT The four members of the Movement stand in solidarity over the broken body of Brickhouse Brown. Promo for SUPERCLASH II...coming in December. Then it’s time for our main event. JUMBO TSURUTA v. NIKITA KOLOFF(w/Paul Jones, Ivan Koloff & Krusher Kruschev)(AWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE) Tsuruta is out first. He stands stoically in the ring as the Soviet national anthem begins to play in the Chicago Arena. Red lights fill the arena as Jones’ army make their way to the ring. Jones is out first, followed by Ivan who is waving a Russian flag. Kruschev is out next with the ESPN TV Title belt around his waist. Nikita is the last one out. The AWA World Title belt reflects red under the lights. Nikita locks eyes with Tsuruta and never break contact as he stalks to the ring. The two men meet in the center of the ring. It’s not often that Nikita has to look up at a challenger. Tonight is one of those nights. The ref raises the title belt overhead and calls for the bell. Koloff charges Tsuruta, but Jumbo avoids him. Tsuruta takes Koloff to the match and the look on Nikita’s face tells everyone this isn’t the match he was expecting. Unable to enforce his will on Tsuruta, Koloff finds himself on the receiving end of a wrestling clinic. Hold after painful hold, Tsuruta begins to break down the Russian Nightmare. But...Nikita isn’t alone. Outside the ring, Jones yells at the ref about every infraction, real or imagined. Ivan berates his nephew in Russian. The verbal abuse seems to do the trick and Nikita works himself back to a standing position and proceeds to pummel Tsuruta. The Japanese giant staggers. Koloff whips him into the ropes and levels him with a big boot. Nikita covers for a 2. Tsuruta kicks out. Nikita pulls Tsuruta to his feet and whips him toward the ropes. Tsuruta reverses the whip and nails Nikita with a high knee strike. Koloff staggers. Tsuruta positions Nikita’s head between his legs looking for a powerbomb. Nikita powers out, backdropping Tsuruta and propelling himself into the ropes. Tsuruta climbs to his feet just in time to get levelled by the Russian Sickle. Koloff covers for the win. WINNER (AND STILL CHAMPION): NIKITA KOLOFF Jones’ Army enters the ring, Ivan drapes the Russian Flag over Tsuruta. Jones snatches the World Title from the ref and straps it around the waist of Nikita. SuperClash I ends with Koloff flexing and sticking his tongue out at the camera. END

AWA Championship Wrestling - 9/5/85 From the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey Broadcast nationwide on ESPN Opening credits play and then we go to the closing moments of last week’s show. Bruiser Brody and “Macho Man” Randy Savage brawl into the back of the studio with Ron Bass and Bobby Jaggers. Security attempts to break up the brawl, but become victims of the violence themselves. Brody crashes into the camera which goes to static. Then we go to the ring for tonight’s opening bout. BILLY TRAVIS v. RON SLINKER It looks like Slinker has used some of his bounty money to upgrade his ring gear. It’s Bruce Lee black and yellow. He bows to Travis before the bell. Travis looks on amused. His amusement changes to pain once the bell rings. Slinker seems invigorated. He delivers brutal chops and kicks that take Travis to the mat. Slinker ends things with a snap kick to the head and a cover. WINNER: RON SLINKER As Slinker celebrates, the crowd erupts in cheers. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper hits the ring, still wearing bandages from the beating he took a couple of weeks ago. He goes right after Slinker, taking him to the mat and ripping up Slinker’s new attire, leaving him in his jock. Slinker runs for the back as we go to commercial. When we come back we are at the announcers. Trongard: Fans, welcome to another exciting episode of AWA Championship Wrestling. Blears: As always, you never know how things are going to happen here. Trongard: Roddy Piper makes his presence… Before Trongard can continue, Piper steps to the announce position and grabs a mic. Piper: I’ll take it from here your Lordship. Percival...you got one over on me. Congrats fat man. That puts you in pretty elite company. Still, that was only the opening salvo. You should have made sure you put me under the dirt, because now I’m 100% focused on you and your dynasty. I’m going to take them apart one by one until there is nobody standing between me and you. And then, I will watch as you beg, plead and soil yourself, before I tear you limb from limb. Now, I know there is a big show taking place in Chicago on Monday and I’m here to challenge Ron Slinker to a match. What did Percy call you? The Judas Goat? Well, the Hot Rod is the mood for cabrito! What do you say Ron? Me and you in Chicago? Piper leaves. Trongard: Let’s go back to the ring. THE MOVEMENT(w/Slick) v. local talent Whatley and Conway attack right at the opening bell. From there, it’s a mugging. They leave the local guys on the mat after Whatley nails one of them with a jumping headbutt. WINNERS: THE MOVEMENT Commercial. When we come back Larry Nelson is at ringside with the entire Movement. Nelson: Gentlemen, another impressive victory. Slick: Don’t you dare “gentlemen” us, Larry Nelson! We are not gentlemen, we are a movement. We are THE MOVEMENT! We’re tired of holding down the bottom of the card while other more “acceptable” types get to experience the rarified air at the top. So, tonight we are here to challenge Team Tom, Rocky Johnson, Brickhouse Brown and Koko B. Ware, to a match this Monday in Chicago. And since it’s in Chicago, let’s make it a Chicago Street Fight if you’ve got to the guts. The Movement raise their fists as one and then leave ringside. Nelson: There you have it! A challenge issued for SuperClash. Commercial break. When we come back, we see a match courtesy of CMLL featuring Blue Demon, Jr. After the match is over and Blue Demon is victorious, the graphic announces that Blue Demon, Jr. will be in Chicago for SuperClash. Commercial break. When we come back, Ken Resnick is at the tumbler, ready to draw this week’s challenger for the ESPN TV title. Resnick: Fans, it’s once again time for us to see who will be challenging for the ESPN Television Title tonight. Resnick activates the tumble and a ball breaks free. Resnick picks it up and reads the name. Resnick: Kendall Windham! Kendall Windham will face Nikita Koloff for the ESPN TV title later tonight. Commercial break and back to the ring. KILLER BEES v. local talent The Bees suffered a loss to the Sheepherders on television a few weeks ago. Tonight, they bounce back against some young talent. It’s a high flying affair with Brunzell getting the pinfall. WINNERS: THE KILLER BEES The Bees join Ken Resnick at ringside. Resnick: Jim, Brain - congratulations on your win. Brunzell: Thanks Ken. Every win is important, but every loss stings. Blair: That’s right Jim. So, since SuperClash is right around the corner, we want the opportunity to avenge a recent loss that still stings! Sheepherders...how about it? The Bees leave with the challenge open. Commercial break. When we come back, Paul Jones, Ivan Koloff and Krusher Kruschev. Krushcev is holding the ESPN TV Title. Nelson: Jones, it appears that one member of your Army is missing. Jones: Comrade Nikita is not missing Nelson. He is training for his upcoming world title defense against Jumbo Tsuruta. Nelson: Well, if he’s not here tonight, how will he defend the ESPN Television Title tonight. Jones: I’m going to let Comrade Ivan answer that. Ivan: Larry Nelson...do you understand Communism? Nelson: I’m not sure I understand the question. Ivan: Typical American! The people share equally under communism and since Cousin Nikita is unavailable to defend TV Title, then Comrade Krushchev will do so. Nelson: You can’t do that! Jones: Actually, we can. The precedent was already set with the so called “Freebird Rule.” Nelson: I don’t think that’s the same… Ivan: Enough! Kruschev, you know what to do! Kruschev: Yes comrade Ivan. Kruschev rushes the ring. Nelson: Well, I guess we have a title match. KENDALL WINDHAM v. KRUSHER KRUSCHEV (ESPN Television Title) The turncoat is apparently defending the title. Windham, on a recent losing streak, comes out like a house on fire. He pummels Kruschev relentlessly, whipping him into the ropes and landing a flying lariat that scores a 2 count. With Koloff and Jones at ringside, Windham is distracted and the tide turns. Kruschev delivers a pair of clubbing blows that take Windham to the mat. The two men continue to battle pretty evenly. Jones distracts the ref and Koloff waffles Windham with the Russian flag. Kruschev drops a knee on Windham and quickly covers. WINNER (AND STILL CHAMPION?): KRUSHER KRUSCHEV Koloff covers Windham with the Russian Flag. Credits run followed by a graphic displaying the SuperClash card. BLUE DEMON JR v. ERIC EMBRY (from MACW) THE MOVEMENT v. ROCKY JOHNSON, BRICKHOUSE BROWN & KOKO B. WARE (Chicago Street Fight) KILLER BEES v. THE SHEEPHERDERS RON SLINKER v. “ROWDY” RODDY PIPER MIDNIGHT ROCKERS & HONKYTONK MAN v. FABULOUS ONES & RICK MARTEL NICK BOCKWINKLE v. RON GARVIN CHICKY STARR & AL MADRIL v. AWA Championship Wrestling - 8/29/85 From the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ Broadcast on ESPN Opening credits play and then we go to the ring for our opening bout. BILLY TRAVIS v. ONE MAN GANG(w/Percival Pringle III) We open with a big...and I do mean BIG...squash as OMG levels Travis and then flattens him with the 747. WINNER: ONE MAN GANG Cut to announcers. Trongard: Welcome to AWA Championship Wrestling. Tonight promises you fans wall-to-wall action. Blears: Indeed. We already know that the unorthodox team of Randy Savage and Bruiser Brody will be facing Ron Bass and Bobby Jaggers. We will also see the first title defense from new ESPN Television champion, Steve Doll. Trongard: All that and more of the fabulous stars of the AWA in action. Blears: I’m being told that Ken Resnick is standing by with the Pringle Dynasty. Ron? Resnick does indeed have the Dynasty...and Ron Slinker...in tow. Resnick: I guess you’re pretty pleased with yourself aren’t you Percy? Pringle: Business first Ken. Pringle pulls a large manila envelope out of his coat pocket. The envelope is stuffed to the gills. Pringle hands the envelope to Slinker. Pringle: For services rendered. Slinker takes the envelope, shakes Pringle’s hand and, well, slinks away. Pringle: Now, I told you Ken Resnick and I told all of these AWA fans that the Pringle Dynasty would rebound and rebound we did. Not only did we take the AWA North American Title from Roddy Piper. Adrian Adonis gestures to the belt on his shoulder. Pringle: But we did serious damage to Piper. We did the kind of damage that a man doesn’t just recover from. No! We did the kind of damage that causes a man to wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. The kind of damage that makes a man reconsider his life choices. We did the kind of damage that makes men like Piper crawl away into obscurity. And we will do the same thing to anyone else who crosses our path. Ventura flexes at the camera as we go to commercial. When we return it’s time for tag team action. SCOTT HALL & CURT HENNING v. local talent (non-title) The AWA World Tag Team champions return to television much to the delight of the crowd. They put on an exhibition of seamless teamwork on their way to the victory. WINNERS: HALL & HENNING Promo video for the imminent arrival of Bad News Allen. Then to Resnick and the champs. Resnick: Gentlemen, welcome back! Henning: It’s good to be back Ken. You know Scott and I have been out defending these belts against anyone in the AWA who put their name on the dotted line. It was a good tour, but we are back and ready to take on some new challengers. Hall: We’ve seen the Sheepherders. We’ve seen the Russians. We’ve seen the Movement. All of them are worthy opponents. We’ll let AWA management decide who is first, but me and Curt, we’ll face them all in due time. Cheers from the crowd as the champs leave. Then back to the ring. HONKYTONK MAN (w/Johnny V) v. TYREE PRIDE HTM gets the upper hand quickly in this one, then he starts showboating. Mistake. Rick Martel comes to ringside and begins to jaw with Johnny V. The manager takes a swing, Martel blocks and lands a hard right of his own that sends the Colonel sprawling. HTM sees it and starts to head out of the ring. He yells at Martel. Martel backs away. HTM reenters the ring and finds himself on the receiving end of a rollup by Pride. WINNER: TYREE PRIDE Cut to Ken Resnick who is standing by with the Fabulous Ones. Keirn and Lane are dressed in the finest unstructured pastel linen suits and sunglasses. The ladies go wild. Resnick: Gentlemen, welcome to the AWA. Keirn: It’s good to be here Ken. We’ve heard a lot about the level of tag team competition here in the AWA and we’re ready to show the world that the Fabulous Ones are still among the elite. Lane: Ken, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, if that’s the case, Steve and I should be the most flattered men in the sport. Since we put together skill and flash, team after team has followed our lead. You’ve got Expresses. You’ve got RPMs. And, here in the AWA you’ve got Rockers. Midnight Rockers. Keirn: Those boys are like a copy of a copy of a copy. You can kinda see where the original came from, but not really. Lane: Midnight Rockers, you’re on notice. The Fabulous Ones are in the AWA and we’re coming for you. Resnick: Let’s go back to the ring. KENDALL WINDHAM v. SUPER STRONG MACHINE The masked Japanese import steamrolls the youngest Windham. It’s all SSM and he ends with his patented Machine DDT. WINNER: SUPER STRONG MACHINE Promo video for THE MOVEMENT plays. Quick cuts show all the members of the faction in action all set to “King of Rock” by Run DMC. Commercial break and then we go to Larry Nelson who is standing by to draw this week’s challenger for the ESPN TV title. Steve Doll, the belt over his shoulder, is standing with Nelson. Nelson activates the machine. Nelson: Fans, it’s that time once again. It’s time for us to find out who our new ESPN Television champion will be defending his title against tonight. Steve, would you like to do the honors? Doll: Sure. Doll does whatever it is that pushes out the ball with the name of the person who will be his challenger tonight. Doll pulls out the ball and goes white as a sheet. He shakes his head and hands the ball to Nelson. Nelson: Oh my! Tonight, Steve Doll will defend the ESPN Television Title against...NIKITA KOLOFF! The arena goes quiet. We go to commercial. When we come back it’s time for our title match. Paul Jones leads his Russian Army to the ring. Doll tries to hold together his brave face. Koloff takes off the AWA World Title and hands it to Jones. NIKITA KOLOFF v. STEVE DOLL (ESPN TV Title) The bell rings. Doll extends his hands, Koloff looks at the gesture of sportsmanship...and levels Doll with a Russian Sickle. It’s academic. WINNER(AND NEW CHAMPION): NIKITA KOLOFF Jones and Ivan are quickly in the ring with both belts. They drape them over Nikita’s shoulders as the crowd begins to pelt the ring with trash. Commercial break. We come back to our announcers. Trongard: Fans, if I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t believe it. Nikita Koloff now holds the AWA World Title and the ESPN Television Title. Blears: And good luck to anyone who thinks they are going to take either of those belts from the Russian Nightmare any time soon. Trongard: It’s time for tonight’s main event. Let’s go back to the ring. RON BASS & BOBBY JAGGERS v. RANDY SAVAGE & BRUISER BRODY(w/Elizabeth) The four men attack before the bell rings. It’s just a slobberknocker. There is no order, only chaos. The ref tries to maintain order, but quickly realizes there is nothing to maintain. The brawl spills out to ringside and then to the back. The ref, much to his relief, stands in the center of the ring and counts to 10. DOUBLE COUNT OUT Credits roll and the show ends.

AWA Championship Wrestling - 8/22/20 From the Tropicana Hotel in Atlantic City Opening credits play and then we go to the ring for our opening match. TYREE PRIDE v. DINO BRAVO Pride runs into a Canadian wall. No matter what he tries, Bravo stands tall. Pride bounces off the ropes right into the outstretched arms of Bravo and gets planted with a sidewalk slam. WINNER: DINO BRAVO Cut to announcers. Trongard: Fans, welcome to AWA Championship Wrestling. Blears: Things get off to a big start with a win for Dino Bravo. Trongard: And it’s only going to get more exciting from here. Blears: We have two title matches on tap for you. Trongard: And we don’t know who the challengers will be for either one. RICK MARTEL (ESPN Television TItle - 20 min time limit) Martel takes a quick upper hand and scores a near fall over Doll. The match seems like a foregone conclusion until Johnny V and HonkyTonk Man come out to ringside. Johnny V starts berating the ref while HTM circles the ring. Martel is forced to divide his attention and it costs him. Martel confronts HTM. HTM grabs Martel’s legs and Martel hits the mat, landing hard on his head. He ran Stan Hansen out of the AWA. And, now, he’s ready to end whoever steps into his path. Koloff grabs the mic. Koloff: Nikita is champion. Nikita end myth of American cowboy. Uncle Iban tell Nikita that next he must destroy man known as Bockswinkle. The thread for Darknyt's AWA

AWA sends Mr. Saito to WWF for future considerations. AWA drops Joe Lightfoot. That should put us back to our roster limit.
-
AWA Championship Wrestling - 8/15/85 Only on ESPN The show begins with a new opening title sequence and then we go to the ring for our opening bout. Joe Lightfoot v. “Iceman” King Parson(w/Slick) Parsons is sporting new, all black ring gear. Lightfoot comes out swinging at the opening bell, but Parsons is having none of it. He quickly changes the tone of the match and it doesn’t take long before he has flattened Lightfoot with the Butt Butt. WINNER: ICEMAN KING PARSONS On cue, Tiger Conway Jr and Shaska Whatley hit the ring, also clad in all black, and lay waste to Lightfoot. Once the damage is done, Slick, wearing a leather jacket and black beret enters the ring and all four men raise their fists in solidarity. Video footage of Hulk Hogan and Jumbo Tsuruta destroying tag team after tag team in Japan plays and we go to commercial. When we come back, Ken Resnick is at the interview station. “Living After Midnight” begins to play. The Midnight Rockers and Sherri Martel make their way to Resnick. The Rockers have the AWA North American Tag Team Titles strapped around their waists. Resnick: I am joined now by the AWA North American Tag Team champions, the Midnight Rockers and their...advisor...Sherri Martel. Martel: What you are looking at Resnick is the most exciting...threesome...in all of professional wrestling. These young stallions took these titles and ran the Rock and Roll Express out of the AWA. Resnick: There was some controversy surrounding the end of that match. Michaels: Show us the footage. Resnick: I’ve been told that the footage of that match has disappeared. Jannetty: Controversy over. We are the champions and we ain’t got no time for losers like you Resnick. The trio walk away, leaving Resnick tongue tied. Video plays from a recent AWA World Title match between Nikita Koloff and Stan Hansen. Both men charge with their arms outstretched and its lariat v. sickle. The two men flatten each other. The ref counts to 7. Nikita begins to pull himself up with the ropes. Hansen does as well. Ivan cheers on his nephew. As the ref checks on Nikita, Kruschev flattens Hansen with the Russian chain. Nikita retains by count out. The footage ends with Hansen being taken out of the ring on a backboard. Commercial break. THE KILLER BEES v. THE SHEEPHERDERS(w/Jonathan Boyd) A main event tag team match anywhere on the globe comes to free television on ESPN. The Killer Bees try to fly, but the Sheepherders have other ideas. They ground the Bees and isolate Blair. A series of quick tags and brutal offense leaves Blair laid out. Brunzell attempts to make the save, but is tripped up by Boyd. WINNERS: THE SHEEPHERDERS Promo video plays announcing the imminent arrival of the Fabulous Ones. Commercial. When we come back, Rick Martel, the ESPN TV champion, is at ringside with Larry Nelson. The tumbler spins. Each ball representing the name of a possible opponent for Martel tonight. Nelson: Rick, are you ready to find out who your opponent will be tonight? Martel: Of course. Nelson triggers the device and a ball vaults out of the hopper. Nelson pulls out the ball and reads the name aloud. Nelson: The Honky Tonk Man! You heard that right fans, Rick Martel will defend the ESPN title against the Honky Tonk Man when we return. Commercial break. HONKY TONK MAN (w/Col. Johnny V) v. RICK MARTEL (ESPN TITLE - 20 min time limit) The crowd, especially the young ladies in attendance, are solidly behind Martel. The bell rings and the men lock up. Martel simply outwrestles HTM for most of the match, but Johnny V keeps the ref distracted to avoid pinfalls. Late in the match, and obviously frustrated HTM thumbs Martel in the eyes. As the ref checks on Martel, Johnny V slides a guitar into the ring. HTM smashes it over Martel’s head. The ref quickly calls for the bell. WINNER: RICK MARTEL via DQ HTM exits the ring thanking the audience to a chorus of boos. A dazed Martel holds the title belt in the air. Commercial break. RON SLINKER v. RON GARVIN Slinker makes a pre-match show of his martial arts prowess. The bell rings and Slinker advances. Garvin steps inside a thrust kick and lands a punch squarely to Slinker’s jaw. Slinker drops like a sack of cement. Garvin covers for the win. WINNER: RON GARVIN Video highlight package of Scott Hall and Curt Henning defending the AWA World Tag Team Titles against top contenders throughout the Association. We come back to the interview area where Ken Resnick is standing by. Resnick: Ladies and Gentlemen, I am joined now by the AWA North American Heavyweight champion, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. The crowd erupts as Piper steps into the frame with the belts strapped firmly around his waist. Resnick: Mr. Piper, welcome. Piper: The pleasure is all yours Resnick. Resnick: Now that you’ve won the title and run Buddy Landel out of the AWA, what’s next? Piper: Oh...that would be telling Kenny. I don’t normally put too much stock in titles. They come. They go. But this one feels special to me. You know why Ken? Resnick: No. Piper: I’ll tell you why. Landel and his posse of goons ran Ric Flair out of the AWA. Now, I don’t always see eye-to-eye with Ric, but what they did to him was just unfair. So, I decided to take a pound of flesh on his behalf. Lord knows, Pringle’s got enough to spare. As if on cue, Percival Pringle III and One Man Gang enter the shot. Piper: Well...well...well...did I say your name three times? Is that why you suddenly appeared your lumpiness? Pringle: Look here Piper. I know you’re pretty proud of yourself and what you’ve done to the Pringle Dynasty, but this is far from over. Piper points like he’s counting. He repeats the action. Piper: Near as I can tell...Percy...your “dynasty” is down to one fat guy with a skull tattoo and you. Not exactly going down in the annals are you buddy. Pringle: I’ll have you know I have brokered a new acquisition and I’ll be more than happy to put them in the ring with you next week...if the price is right. Piper: You want a title shot? Did I guess right? Pringle: Yes. Piper: Sure why not. If you manage this guy as well as you did Landel, I’ll be able to beat and he can still get to McDonald’s in time for me to order from him in the drive through on my way home. Piper walks off leaving a frustrated Pringle standing by Resnick. Commercial break then back to the ring. JACK VICTORY v. “MACHO MAN” RANDY SAVAGE(w/ Ms. Elizabeth) Squash city as Savage just blows through Victory finishing him off with the flying elbow drop. WINNER: SAVAGE Savage climbs the corner buckle to celebrate. As he does so, a pair of tough looking hombres rush the ring. It’s Ron Bass and Bobby Jaggers. They pull Savage down and put the boots to him. Savage falls to the double teaming. Jaggers loops his rope around Savage’s throat and Bass flings him over the top. The two cowboys hold onto the rope and Savage flails and pulls, trying to breath. They stop the attack with the Killer Bees hit the ring. Savage falls to the concrete outside. The outlaws bail as the Bees hold the ring. The final shot of the night is a hysterical Elizabeth holding Savage in her arms at ringside. END
