  1. Samoa Joe vs. Necro Butcher II – IWA Mid-South New Year's Resolution – 01/12/06 The rematch doesn’t live up to the original; it’s a match that fits well within the Indie Main Event universe. Joe takes the victory thanks to an interference by Hero. The Feud Itself The first act of the feud is the build-up to a match between Danielson and Hero in ROH through call-outs and Dragon’s surprise appearance in CZW. The roles between the two promotions are clear: ROH represents the sports presentation with the best athletes in the world and a certain self-entitled identity. CZW plays the outsider, the place where the toughest fighters battle. Bryan Danielson vs. Chris Hero – ROH Hell Freezes Over Big-time indie match. They get too clever at times, overloading the striking and the bombs, fulfilling certain tropes of the era that haven’t aged well. The best work happens on the mat, where they bring enough struggle to keep our attention. In the following weeks, CZW invades ROH shows, culminating in a huge brawl at ROH’s Anniversary event. Cornette and Kingston deliver brilliant promos during these events. Six-Man Tag Team Match BLKOUT (Eddie Kingston & Ruckus) & Necro Butcher vs. Generation Next (Austin Aries, Matt Sydal & Roderick Strong) – CZW When 2 Worlds Collide Six guys whose work I enjoy. Eddie knows how to gain sympathy from the audience, and Aries excels in offense. This match feels much more filled with hatred than the title match. Circus freaks vs. three jocks. Eddie eats the fall, and the CZW OGs come to the rescue. Zandig’s botched powerbomb on Sydal further cements his place as one of my least favorite wrestlers.
  2. I've always been interested in this moment, but I never had the means or the time to do a deep dive into the topic before. For some, this period was the summon of the golden age of indie wrestling. It's time to give my completely unqualified opinion on the subject. Background I'll go over some highlights prior to the feud itself: Road to Necro vs. Show Mad Man Pondo & Necro Butcher vs. Matt Turner & Anthony Franco (Tag World Grand Prix 2005) - Chikara The match that preceded one of the most beloved indie classics. Before the bout, the ROH guys cut a basic promo of "Real Wrestling vs. Garbage Backyarders," burying Necro and Pondo, saying they were going to teach them a lesson in the name of wrestling’s great legends. The match is an extended beatdown of monsters vs. jobbers. Franco and Turner were very green, and their hope spots didn’t convince me at all. Necro and Pondo follow the 101 of Brody and Hansen, with some high spots thrown in. Nothing remarkable, but interesting as part of the project and for seeing these two deathmatch wrestlers in such an unusual environment for them, like Chikara. Samoa Joe vs. Necro Butcher (Something to Prove '05) - IWA MS A contemporary classic. The sum of its parts works perfectly here: the arena, the fans, the monster vs. the badass ass-kicker in a brawl that feels like it's straight out of the climax of some exploitation movie. Necro, in zombie mode, absorbs punishment worthy of a martyr. Joe, for his part, carries himself like the toughest guy in the world. Watching this match, you could easily believe he could take down Fedor Emelianenko or even Godzilla. Here, in particular—and contrary to what usually happened in this era—the commentary actually enhances the trashy atmosphere.
  3. Everything i found of them, the Super Muñeco crew and the Las Tortugas Ninja(yes, really) has been crazy good. I Should regroup and watch all the fantasia lucha characters i can find.
  4. Hi, i haven't been watching wrestling lately do to time reinstraints. Whenever i find time to sit down i'll make sure to comment if i find something of interest. Thanks for asking!
  5. Quiñones seems like a good anchor then. I do think that The Monday Night Wars big three have a certain exageration of all the dark & gritty asthetics of the 90s which results in a somewhat "adult" cartoon from that era. Oh, and that Hustle bit seems awesome will definitely check out. Yes, here in Argentina all wrestling post Titanes has had that flavour. I should have named them in my original post. Thank you for bringing it up. In the subject of avatars: yourse is from Immortal or i am mistaken from another band?
  6. Thank you very much, everyone, for the responses. I'm taking note of the recommendations! Regarding my own understanding of the term, I still don’t have a clear idea of when it applies (the three examples I mentioned in the OP were the ones that came to mind because I’ve seen the term applied to them in some forum posts). One question that comes to mind is whether ECW or FMW could fall into this category. Isn’t there something about the comics Rob Liefeld used to draw or the excess of Image Comics in ECW’s presentation? Lucha Underground is another example that occurs to me of using a caricatured serial format as the driving force of the presentation. To wrap up and return to the territories: Memphis and Puerto Rico are sometimes cited as the main influences on ECW or, according to some, WWF under Vince. Could those promotions count?
  7. Over the past few days, I've been thinking about exploring the subgenre of 'cartoon wrestling' to expand my palette a bit. I was interested in recommendations for promotions that, like Chikara, DDT, or 80s WWF, used this type of presentation. Another point that interests me a lot is whether there were any territories that adopted this style. Thank you very much in advance.
  8. I'd totally reccomend Manny match with Salman Hashimikov from the NJPW vs URSS show of the 90s. Manny playing an outclassed underdog who won't go down without a fight is so good to see.
  9. The Nicks

    Ron Starr

Thanks Elliot that match is amazing! Starr's viciouness and cowardice are truly oustanding. He's a guy you found yourself hating on close-to-real levels. I will also check up more of his tag work with Chicky as their are such a perfect pair.
  10. The Nicks

    Darby Allin

High flying wrestling is not my favorite style of wrestling but Darbs is one of those exceptions that prove the rule. Everthing the man does makes sense to me, he can project character and make it all in a logical way. He may get a top bottom spot in 2026 once i watch his Evolve run.
  11. The Nicks

    Ron Starr

I love Ron Starr's work in the Invader I match. Is there anything else from his Puerto Rico run that is a can't miss?
  12. Is there a source that clarifies if Punk attempts to give advice were also dismissed by the younger wrestlers? I can understand the Elite logic but i totally wonder if guys who actually grow up watching him were unreceptive to his words.
  13. Loving the fact this will lead to Dragos/ Eddi II and Claudio/Eddie.
  14. The BCC continues to assert itself as my favorite thing in wrestling with this new addition. I'm an Orange Cassidy sceptic most of the time, but i really like when he faces someone who works as a straight man to his wackiness. That sort of style clash makes me appreciate his gimmick a lot more. Glad FTR won, i just can't stop rooting for those guys.
  15. The Anarchy in the Arena and Rosa vs Serena were the highlights of the nights to me. Punk is my wrestling childhood idol i've been having a blast with his current run while Hangman was one of my favorites of the AEW originals but for some reason the match left me cold. Darby/ Kyle and Joe/Cole were very good but i was puzzled by the booking decisions. Maybe as weeks pass i'll be able to apreciate them completly. Totally hope FTR are going for those titles and looking forward to Eddie/Dragon and Julia Hart beating the Blondes with a chair.
