  1. There is a ton of GCW footage available from September 1979 to the end. Regarding Bock.....he had points in Houston with Paul Boesch who was on the upper tier of NWA hierarchy plus he had really good runs defending his AWA title in 1978-79 in GCW & JCP which is the timeframe that KHawk was referring to.
  2. No he worked a full JCP schedule along with the early March WWF tapings
  3. If Not Matt Smith Then Who?
  4. The DiBiase deal subbing for Race was all storyline by Ole getting over Ted as the new lead heel while making Race look like a douchebag for no-showing a card he wasn't even booked for.
  5. Early 1984 was funky as the war had already started yet you had Slaughter working Steamer's "retirement" show in January, Tito working shots for Paul Boesch in January, Andre working shots in Florida, PNW, & Texas in April and this one. WWF @ Allentown, PA - Agricultural Hall - February 14, 1984 Greg Valentine (w/ Capt. Lou Albano) d. B. Brian Blair at 6:31 JCP @ Richmond, VA – Coliseum – March 24, 1984 Steel Cage Match: Dick Slater d. Greg Valentine A full 39 days between first WWF booking and last JCP booking.
  6. OH SHIT you have started something now.........We now need many posters
  7. Another positive for Flair in 1981 was months before he got the title he was a part owner of a territory which if you had skin in the NWA game that always helped.
  8. St. Louis was in complete turmoil around the time of the Race title win as Matysik had left to form his own outlaw group. Geigel and his boys then took over and then pushed his Central States guys harder. 1981 was a different story as Sam was still in charge although on the way out
  9. Flair was more about David Crockett's honor than the nation.
  10. The thing about Lawler is that he didn't have the "look" and it's known how St. Louis felt about him and his territory as a whole.
  11. That would've been the only way. He would've never got a run like he did in the AWA
  12. There are various owners of Jarrett footage. It's basically public domain
  13. To kill this Ivan talk and I think we really should. Ivan was working for the competition for one and two they would never vote for a foreign champion. The Baba reigns were all money in champ's pockets deals while on tour plus it was Baba and he was one of the made men. Jumbo never had a chance only Baba.
  14. Sorry to potentially derail this debate, and God knows I love the plugs for the set , but what is the deal with the dearth of Mid South footage prior to late 1981? No one archived it up until the last tapings of the year.
  15. We have way more Patera in high end matches from that era than we do of DiBiase because Patera was a mainstay in WWF and AWA who were high profile territories. DiBiase worked Georgia & Mid-South with a lack of footage from Mid-South until December 1981 and nothing but Techwood matches from Ted mainly tags at that. Both had great reps and both brought different things to the table as in 1981 DiBiase hadn't worked heel yet in his career while Patera was one of the best heels in the business. Patera also had experience working face earlier in his career so he could do both back then with Ted you didn't know because if you watched Ted promos from that era he was very milktoast and very similar to Dory.
  16. Nope but he did 3 months and worked most of the territories. Patera was a workhorse at that time and could do 60:00 draws if needed.
  17. Was Dusty Rhodes an NWA champ style worker
  18. Patera was one of the Top 10 workers in North America in 1981 I would say.
  19. And going back to Dylan's point earlier about Muchnick and Patera.......Sam loved Brody too.
  20. Patera & DiBiase were neck and neck with Flair at the time as guys in line to get the title. DiBiase went to Georgia to get the springboard he needed to get the belt but Robert Fuller cuts his legs out from under him as the booker by keeping him in tag teams. Patera got the Georgia title when he came in and was pushed big but when he lost his allies in booking (Buck Robley) he saw the writing on the wall and quit.
  21. Ole didn't hate Flair back then.....they were very tight. The split would come later on when Ole blamed Flair for him getting fired as booker in 1991.
  22. If you notice there are two dates there period for GCW who basically refused to acknowledge he was the world champion then as Ole was pissed that he beat Flair for the title. They spent the next couple of months working with the outlaw Southwest area before finally bringing back some of the old regulars who were working groups like JCP late in July. Flair would appear on TBS two days after the winning the title and he was treated as the returning hero bringing the title back to TBS.
