WWE TV 5/1-5-7 Stand back, there's a draft coming through
ChrisDrakkar replied to sek69's topic in WWE
I was a the show last night at el Choliseo. Main takeaways: Karrion Kross really impressed me. The crowd went from not caring much about him to booing him at every cost. All thanks to his mannerisms, expressiveness and the stiffness of the suplexes and the ring post powerbomb. Most of his character work happened in the commercial break and he really got Shinsuke some sympathy with his control segment. Shinsuke did some amazing sells too, especially with the last back drop. Rey Mysterio's ten count spot and finish were extremely creative... his execution just stands out so much and at 48, he really showed out tonight. Bayley did some amazing work playing to the cheap seats in the dark match afterwards. So many little things: reaching for a desperation tag before an irish whip, the yells and the emoting. Definately got some brownie points if I ever make a GWE ballot. Cody was made for this crowd. His jab-bionic elbow spot plays into the fua chant so well. More of an emotion than an execution wrestler. He is over af and had a good dark match performance Everyone here agrees that the star last night was Dominik. He had three chances to draw insane heat tonight: the opening, the televised ME, and the dark ME, in which he interfered and stayed in Finn's corner. The third one was the best where he almost got into a fight with someone behind the commentary tables. But the three amigos finish, him being outsmarted because of his hubris was magnificent. My favorite spot was a 3 minute Cobra Twist that Finn had on Cody, which was aided with Dom grabbing Finn's hand for extra leverage and flexing to the crowd for heat. Crowd ate him up. You could make a legit argument that the crowd paid money just to boo Dom and that most of thr Huelebicho, Lambebicho, Mamabicho and Pendejo chants were for him... during the tv ME, Dom got them to chant Huelebicho while Rey was shining... Rey being one of the greatest babyfaces of all time. By William Regal's definition of a great worker, Dominik is something special here in PR in a post-kayfabe WWE. -
Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4

To any spanish speakers: Dom gives this entire interview in kayfabe. Granted, the interviewer, Molusco, who is a dick and has a controversial reputation in PR, did a good job of letting Dom speak, elaborate his character, his motives and his role in the JD. There's a lot of nuance in his heel work here. He establishes that his allegiance to the JD comes from the validation they give him, the same validation that his dad didn't give him. There's a fantastic heel moment around 3/4 of the way where Dom talks about when he first learned to run the ropes; here's an abridged translation: D: "the first time I ever ran the ropes, my dad told me to run for five minutes. 15 seconds in, my back was already bruised and I complained. He just responded: "sorry" and told me to keep going. Five minutes later, my back is completely purple" M: "It's Rey asserting his dominance over you. Like, 'hey I'm Rey F'n Mysterio and I've been running these ropes for 30+ years so this is what I feel on the daily'." D: "Exactly. He told me he cried the first time he did this exercise. My uncle, Rey Misterio, Sr. who is also his uncle, told him 'if you're gonna cry, go cry in the corner because wrestlers don't cry' so he cried, wiped away his tears, and kept going. Of course, I didn't cry because I'm a real man." In one fell swoop Dom puts his dad over, gathers sympathy for him and heels it up. For any completionists out there, Molusco also interviewed Damian Priest yesterday out of kayfabe and Chicky Starr last week. He is a respectful, although casual interviewer. -
I'm gonna be honest, I don't really know if you're being sarcastic here lol. Quick shout out here to Jumbo singing a verse in a rare version of his theme "Rolling Dreamer."

I also love his axe handle and blows to the back. All of his blows at the end of his career carried a real pettiness to them.
-
Sorry about that. I'll make up for this next time. You're an ace in my heart

How about best body language? Comunicating with a mask? Playing to the cheap seats? If only (Liger) there was (Liger) an entirely obvious (Liger) answer.
-
What about comedy?

I guess what I mean is: who's worst stuff is the best of the worst stuff? I only have Rey and Terry at 10 in NA
-
Absolutely. No complaints here. Even though MSG is seen as THE place for NA, I think the Allstate Arena/Rosemont Horizon has already surpassed it. Japan: the TD is the go-to answeer but nothing has matched the consistency of the Nippon Buddokan. I wanna add more basic moves Best chin lock Arm lock Abdominal stretch Headlock Best collar and elbow Arm drag

I'm in as long as you add a European Uppercuts to that list (partial to Bret's). Not best but a few faves: Chops: Benoit (cause he always chopped like it was the last chop he'll ever do with his yells) and Walter Dropkicks: Jumbo (no grace, 6 foot 6 dropkick) Lariat: Cena has such a nasty lariat that it carried most of his offense score for him cause his punches suck DDT: I like Kobashi's DDT. It feels, for lack of a better word, sincere. Kawada already has a reputation as the best leg seller of all time. Other elements I'd add (and some of my thoughts) Best rope runner: For as much flack as we give him, Taker always seemed to be running at full speed Best planchas or suicidas: Santito or Manami Toyota Best entrance: Stan Hansen Most creative/best improviser: doesn't count for much but Shawn's blade job in the WM XX triple threat is so discreet because he does it before the slingshot and he hides as part of the struggle to reverse it. In my rewatch I thought he bled the hard way. Best arena: no clue

Walter is a 9.5 for me as are Randy (smoothest), Rey, AJ and Kenny. These are more variety picks than anything. There are clearly holes in my viewing cause my territory stuff isn't on par. If this went to Mexico, Santito would be here too.
-
Lawler has better-looking offense than Cena thanks to his worked punches, for example. Variety and innovation also help. Making you pop with the moves in a vacuum. Punk, for example, is poor here, he's more emotional and selling-based. My 10s have been Shibata, Lesnar, Kurt and Hansen.

This has been the one that has made me feel a little dumb lol. I have an incomplete spreadsheet based around ranking specific wrestlers' abilities in these skills (IMO), summing them, and then weighing the most important aspects (selling, floor, for example). Funk is comfortably ahead, followed by Danielson in the NA one.

Oro de ley might be my favorite but the music of her two rivals, Kong and especially Nakano, don't fall far behind. As for WWE, my favorite and pick for the most underrated theme ever is the Reggaetón mix for Booyaka that Rey used in 2006. I'm Puerto Rican (I'm going to Backlash and if any match tears the house down I'll give my thoughts) and a reggaetón fan and it's not just a great theme, it's also a fantastic reggaetón song and one of the few times english lyrics work over a dembow. I think Rey has a verse in it (I can't differentiate between voices) and it fucks (cause they all fuck, the Space Invaders line fucks, sue me). It was inspired by the most popular reggaeton producers at the time, Luny Tunes so it sounds really 2006 but reggaeton killed in 2006. In comparison to the more famous, blander mix by POD, Rey looked more at home with this theme.

Long time lurker here. Just wanna know everyone's personal thoughts on who's the best wrestler in specific aspects of wrestling as opposed to general greatness. Selling Comebacks Basing Control Segments Charisma Being a face Being a heel Face in Peril Hot tags On the mic Adding intensity to feuds Brawling Athleticism Ring IQ Highest floor Highest ceiling TV matches Big matches Best looking/most impactful offense
