  1. "Delphin also does a Rick Rude-like atomic drop sell and takes a bump into the crowd at one point where he has a humorous interaction with a female fan." That was a trademark spot in various Sasuke vs Delfin 6-man tags going back to '93, which this match was essentially the finalie of.
  2. This was taped April 7th. You know, because that greatly affects the set or something.
  3. The February '97 IWGP title match is GREAT, especially after one has seen the mid '96 feud between them.
  4. Someone at PWT just uploaded a metric ton of old WONs. Which could mean that Loss is no longer the only one able to do recaps, hint hint.
  5. The matches hit the groove for his preferences. The internal logic makes sense to me even if I wildly disagree with him. He places a ton of emphasis on the finishing run, isn't really concerned about a lack of selling or transitions, and enjoys athletic guys doing a ton of highspots. And as kjh says, that lines up pretty well with Dave's rating style. Who knows how many ****+ ratings Dave would hand out if he rated everything from DG, PWG and ROH? Meanwhile, Alan is enthusiastic and likeable. Seems like a perfect fit for F4W. It's not as though there's a studious rep to be upheld at this point.
  6. Seems pretty obvious he was right considering the FB buyrate increase and widespread praise for the blowoff match.
  7. Something I've been meaning to ask about: every now and then an old-school guy will talk about fights with fans and mention popping/scooping the guy's eyeball out. It's said so casually but it seems absurdly overboard for a fistfight, I feel like something is missing, ie. it's just like Vader vs Hansen and the eye gets put in place. But still... kinda sociopathic unless your life is in danger.
  8. So the *every day* NBC late night shows take priority over Dave watching stuff that he analyzes for a living? Really?
  9. ...and the second part of that analogy?
  10. Think you could put your comments in bold so they stand out a bit more? Also, why was Hogan/Bossman so big compared to other feuds for those two? Especially Bossman, who was never really a draw in any other context. The feud never struck me as especially compelling.
  11. Ah, so it turns out the "she blew $50 mil" was just a wild exaggeration! She only spent... 99% of $50 mil.
  12. WWF @ Denver, CO - McNichols Arena - March 16, 1987 (3,362) WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan & Da Crusher (w/ Jake Roberts dressed as Kimchee) defeated Honkytonk Man & Kamala when Hogan pinned Kamala Wow that is like an alternate dimension right there.
  13. XVE = PervertedJustice = people who exposed RF as a pedo.
  14. "Not Jack Brisco" is a long, long ways from "not good". JYD as a draw was never a good worker. Bruno wasn't world-class but he wasn't BAD.
  15. Arashi (Isao Takagi) in the US in 1987? Man the thought of him vs Luger or Chris Champion... wow. Not sure I could trust Baba afterwards if I'm JCP if he's bringing THAT over with him as the workhorse of the team (since '87 Baba certainly wasn't).
  16. I think this deserves its own thread. Fantastic stuff. How much must NJ have been paying for Hogan? I'm assuming gigantic amounts, since that was when Choshu and the UWF guys were gone.
  17. Meltzer referenced a Jack Brisco vs Fujinami match from 1979. Did that air anywhere?
  18. The "one doubleheader per area" rule sucks. Only reason I can think of is it promotes expensive TV packages where people get access to all games. Don't get me started on when the NFL decided that the Buffalo blackout zone extended to Syracuse.
  19. "the vaunted Pro Wrestling Illustrated top 500 list" - Babinsack
  20. To slightly add to what Cox said, the NFL's overall schedule is literally based on a firm set of rules that never takes into account what matchups are more profitable. If the NFL was 'pro wrestling', it would go out of its way to make the NFL Channel games cream-of-the-crop matchups instead of stuff like Jets vs Bengals that at no point before or during the season was going to be a draw. Let's not even go into the fact that the Lions are still on every Thanksgiving after a decade of awful football and the city becoming the first ruins in the history of the US.
  21. "We were told both guys have been Flair, Hogan and Savage, which sets Dave off on correcting the record" Huh?? Yes.
  22. Did these shows actually run, and did they make tape? Yes, though I think only 2/2. Featured bout was Jumbo/Yatsu vs Hansen/Gordy.
  23. The lack of footage from before '80 is a tragedy. Who knows how many all-time classic matches, angles and promos were never taped?
  24. There is no reason whatsoever Meltzer couldn't discuss Mayweather and Manny in pro wrestling terms. Mayweather as the heel ducking the popular babyface, etc. And Mayweather was in a match at Wrestlemania!
  25. Meltzer says that Linda's people are saying she'd spend way less a second time. And really, $20 mil is chump change for the McMahons.
