We're watching the last match we have from 57 for Tuesday - Eric Husberg vs Jose Arroyo. They briefly show a poster with the card whereas this is second from top and Chaisne vs someone else I don't recognize is on top. He has the "De Fer" as part of his name so I was trying to figure it out and found this instead, from 1902. https://cdnc.ucr.edu/?a=d&d=SFC19020105.2.151.2&e=-------en--20--1--txt-txIN--------1 By the way, the announcing calls Husberg someone with a reputation as being bad guy, in this case "mechant". Did we ever pin down if that's what heels are called? "Wrestling is not forbidden from time to time to be a very beautiful thing." might be the best line the youtube translate ever spit out, by the way.

You're looking for something with weight here, I think, something with a lot of small details to look out for. 1. Bockwinkel vs Hennig 11/15/86 It's an hour match with so much nuance and effort and struggle. There are a million things to see. 2. Atlantis vs Villano III It's probably not my favorite match and it doesn't have my favorite guys in it but it's lengthy and heavy with emotion and you can relive it again and again. I think, all else equal, I'd go with a Satanico match instead but I'm not sure which. The Koshikana one maybe? Cochise? I don't know. So I went with this. 3. Heenan Family vs... (Either Andre/Hogan or Warrior's Survivor Series Team) I want something lengthy and fun with a lot of shtick. Basically, either works. A 10-man NJPW tag might work as well. Lots to see. Lots of people in and out. Etc. Maybe the 92 War Games for the same reason.

BTW, this Japanese fellow is on the bandwagon: http://wrestlingheart.com/others/france/fcatch/fcatchanalysis.html

WWE TV 05/18 - 05/24 The Last Dance was fucking incredible

I love you guys but... -
How much weirder is it than La Bete Humaine?
-
I'd add that I liked Last the most with @Bix. Because again, he gets the arguments of the last fifteen years and is willing to push back against the calcified conventional wisdom.

It all matters a lot less now than it did ten years ago because the world is larger and more scattered but yeah, Meltzer's Edge affection has always been baffling. -

Christian, on the other hand, really, really got it. He's one of the best ever at taking a bunch of signature spots and moving them around from match to match. -
I mean, I was just saying that it's frustrating that we've had ten years of arguments about Bruiser Brody or Tiger Mask or Dynamite Kid or Flair or Shawn or Lawler or WWF Bossman vs WWF Dibiase and we've reached certain points of mutual understanding if not entirely being convinced and it's tough to talk to someone who knows enough to be at the start of the argument but doesn't even know it exists and would call it patently absurd to hear it raised, let alone is at other side with us. It's just hard for me to actually take the time to listen to someone like that in so one-sided a way as a podcast. I'd almost rather have the total ignorance.
-
It's funny. I can get annoyed with Conrad for not having what I consider pretty basic knowledge or curiosity. I can get annoyed with Last for not being part of our circle where we've moved arguments forward from the conventional wisdom twenty years ago (but basically just in our circle and maybe with some people under 25).

Only middling WCW though. -
WWE TV 05/11 - 05/17 Becky got an announcement to make!

Carrying Seth's genes? -
I just caught up but my great wisdom, that once they hit the roof I started fast forwarding like crazy, is obviously unnecessary here.
-
I'm pretty deep in. Delaporte snuck his way back into the book unexpectedly because he did the announcing for WM3.
-
They had a very over act and it didn't work out. In this case, is that the act's fault or is it the company/booking/presentation/agenting, etc. or both? That's the question isn't it?
-
What was "North Georgia Wrestling Alliance" and why was Dusty booking it in 1991?
-
I think I know what you're thinking of. This is what I'm thinking of though:
-
1. And here I thought the announcer was just particularly poignant. 2. I also want a the name for that leg trap powerbomb flip we saw a lot in the first few weeks of matches and then haven't seen for most of the rest of 1957.
-
I'm so glad we have a name for this hold.
-
He is. I'm glad you're reading along to his thoughts at least.
-
Or 50s French wrestling so you can help us work out all the cultural bits?
-
Right now, nothing is filming. There are some things in the can (and schedules have been moved around; for instance Killing Eve starts a few weeks early tonight). Seasons are being shortened. MLB is looking for solutions, etc. I think we'll see the effects of this more in a month or two than even now as there'll be a gap where networks just don't have product. So long as Vince can keep producing it, I think there'll be some room for supplemental deals with them filling gaps. Ratings have to be down for almost everything, so it's all relative.
-
So... two years later, I'm obviously proven brutally, shamefully wrong.

Mark had me on to talk a little about the French Catch stuff. I stumbled over names, forgot things (like mentioning Inca Peruano), said the same thing three times, tried not to talk loud enough to bug my wife, etc. Then I totally forgot Bull Curry's name as we talked about Houston a bit. BUT hey, it's twenty minutes of me babbling in case anyone wants to hear it: https://tinyurl.com/winterpod83 Very cool that you found that poster, @ohtani's jacket. We get one Tommy Mann match later on in October 57 and I'm curious to see him. Here's here vs Chemoul briefly:
