iamthedoctor
I was just watching a old WWF show and was wondering what themes did WWE change when WWE 24/7 was around for the WWE shows? Obviously they changed Eye of the Tiger to Real American and the SNME intro from the Obsession one to their own version that got used in later ones. I noticed Hillbilly Jim's catchy Dont go Messin was changed to a custom one im guessing cos Jimmy Hart wrote it and JYD's Queen song was changed to Grab them Cakes but are their any other themes they changed for old school shows? Naturally anything Taker wise ie Kid Rock/Limp Bizkit would be changed to Dead Man Walking.
PeteF3
Country Boy was actually written by Doc Pomus, who's a pretty legendary early rock and roll songwriter (seems like he wrote practically half of Elvis' catalogue). Rebroadcast rights are probably just too expensive. I think Jimmy has said that he's willing to let WWE use his wrestling songs for free if they want. "Real American" hasn't gotten changed yet. PhilTLL
Bunches and bunches. A few: - Steamboat's "Sirius" by Alan Parsons Project is always replaced with a generic synth piece. - Koko's "Bird Bird Bird" is inconsistently replaced with "Piledriver." - Demolition's original theme is always replaced with the famous Derringer one. - Giorgio Moroder's "The Chase" (Midnight Express theme) is always replaced with a generic synth piece. - Terry Funk's use of Morricone's "Man With The Harmonica" is always replaced with a generic western piece. - ELO's "Rock and Roll Is King" is always replaced for the RnRs. Not very often, because they haven't used much footage of them with that theme. - "Iron Man" is always replaced with the WCW knockoff. I assume the '90s WCW songs (Sting, Steiners, Scorpio, Dustin, Rude, Badd, etc) were included in the big rights buy, because they're rarely if ever replaced. (You only asked about WWF, didn't you. Oh well.)
iamthedoctor
Yeah was just wondering about WWF wise themes from the 1980s. Didnt Dusty's American Dream song get edited with the Wheel of Fortune song or was that just for the Anthology series? I could have sworn I heard Demo's theme edited for the heel version which is odd as Derringer did that yet Hogan's Real American is ok. PeteF3
Koko, Dusty, Boss Man, Slick (I think), and Demolition all got cut from the WM Anthology--I suspect it was strictly because of an overzealous editor who thought they were "real" (non-WWF-produced) songs, just because they had vocals. sek69
The Hillbilly Jim one was especially noticeable when he came back to manage the Godwinns in the 90s and they used his theme. The generic plinky plink banjo theme stuck out like a sore thumb.

That sounds about right. That was one of the reasons why I sold my Anthologies.
artDDP
"Voodoo Chile" usually gets replaced by the generic NWO theme. There's quite a few WCW Muzak themes from the late 90s that have been dubbed over for some reason.

DDP, Raven, Jericho get their themes dubbed just because a intro sounds like a official song.
