Your fondest Survivor Series memory (2000-2014)?

For this week's podcast we're doing the second part of our look at the history of the Survivor Series PPV, analysing its struggle for identity and relevance, going show by show, and as always we're looking for your thoughts on the former Thanksgiving Eve Tradition.

 

Question - What is your favourite Survivor Series memory between 2000 and 2014?

 

It can be a great match, moment, promo, anything - the more detail the better. As usual, the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly, so whaddya think?

Might get some shit for this, but the DX vs. Rated RKO match is probably my favorite Survivor Series match of all time. I was the biggest HBK fan in the world back then, and seeing him sweep Rated RKO was all 9 year old me wanted. Watching it back now, it still holds up as a better than average comedy match, too.

I agree the above match is a lot of fun, and it always made sense to me. After the flash pin on Knox, the match is pretty even until the second RKO member (Helms or Nitro) gets pinned, at which point 5-3 is a lot harder for the heels to come back from. It felt like they portrayed the second elimination was most pivotal, as the whole match would have been different if RKO had equalised.

 

Maybe an odd choice, but I always loved the opener to SurSer 09, with Miz/Sheamus/McIntyre/Swagger/Ziggler vs Morrison/Finlay/Hardy/Bourne/Benjamin. It felt like a real drive to actually push new stars, with three members of the heel team standing tall at the end. 3/5 of the face team were guys who had been around a while and were popular, but never going to be world title contenders, so using them to put over fresh guys made sense. McIntyre and Sheamus both got two eliminations, which made them look great, whilst the only members of the face team to eliminate anyone were Morrison and Bourne, the two with the most potential on their team. Miz, Sheamus and McIntyre looked like world beaters coming out of the match, and the fact that 4 of the 5 heels went on to hold world titles and it would have been all 5 if Drew Mac hadn't married a nutter) shows they were right to give these young guys a chance.

I actually loved the Team Bischoff/Team Austin match from '03. HBK did a great job at being the valiant hero fighting a losing battle to me and it was the moment I actually became interested in his post-comeback work.

I liked the WWE vs Alliance match at Survivor Series, even though the booking going in was what it was. It was cool seeing Jericho at the end with Austin and Rock being portrayed as being as close to their equal as the storyline would allow. Edge-Test on the undercard I remember being shockingly good too, but I haven't seen it in years.

My mind immediately goes to Shawn Michaels for this, and 3 moments in particular:

 

The awesome, feel good ending of the 2002 show, with Shawn pinning Triple H to win the first Elimination Chamber match and the title.

 

His amazing performance at the 2003 show, in the Team Austin vs. Team Bischoff match.

 

The superkick to Triple H right at the start of their triple threat with John Cena at the 2009 show. Awesome way to start the match, especially right after they did the DX entrance together.
