KrisZ
Kris is joined by Beau James (King of Kingsport) to discuss July 1987-mid May 1988 in Continental Championship Wrestling, Continental Wrestling Federation, & USA Championship Wrestling as yes the promotions have split. We go into a deep discussion of how the split took place with some interesting stories about all the characters involved. We talk about all the major angles of the era and just who was booking what and who wasn’t. We talk returns and exits along with debuts such as Eddie Gilbert making his first foray into this area. Truly an amazing show with stuff you have never heard on a podcast before!!!!! The PWO-PTBN Podcast Network features great shows you can find right here at Place to Be Nation. goc
Another great show, really liked getting the look into the behind the scenes stuff around the split of Continental/USA. I always wondered why Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden went to Memphis instead of USA and now I know. And the story about Wendell Cooley going on TV and saying the only way he was making any money was by selling pictures at the shows due to signing the contract with The Stud Stable was fucking great. I also LOVED the explanation of how the Mink Coat tournaments worked. I never did understand exactly how that was such a big draw but the names in the shoe box gimmick put all the pieces together for me. Superstar Sleeze
The Wendell Cooley working the marks to make money off his pictures maybe the greatest carny thing I have ever heard. I fucking love it. I laughed really hard at the Scott (maybe it was Steve) Armstrong promo where he talks about the fan in the front row says "Nice guys finish last.". I thought that was funny as hell. The story of Beau getting Mempho thrown off Johnson City TV was one of the all-time best stories in wrestling history. I have learned so much and these are really fun shows.
WrestlingPower
I think this show was the best yet on Continental. One thing I wanted to bring up was Beau claiming that Knoxville fan Beulah was never smartened up. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case. Someone can go back & check one of the SMW Fanweek Q&As with Jim Cornette but I'm pretty sure he claimed that Beulah used to call him at home regularly during the SMW days & was so sweet to him despite playing her role at the shows. goc
Looking forward to Part 4 whenever it drops. I've watched the first two months of 89 Continental recently and would love to hopefully get some answers to the many questions that watching it has presented like why there is a jobber named King Harley, why is Mike Jackson getting wins on TV, wtf was that angle with 'Super' Dave Baxter and Alan Martin etc etc etc
