I don't know if I'd want to see a match with George Steele going 40 minutes in 1984. I'm sure Martel's back was really sore after carrying Steele for that long.

I don't know, a wild George Steele could cause at last 10-15 minutes worth of carnage outside of the body of the match..

For a long match, Steele would have been great. The action would be all over the arena and Martel would have taken a beating. This would have allowed him a comeback in front of the home crowd and they would have all left happy. Martel is like Lawler in Memphis. The entire match would have kept the fans on the edge of their seats. It could have been 10 minutes or an hour.

(The special opening credits for this week features the announcement of the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup and introduces the trophy that will be given to the winner of the tournament on August 29. We then go to the broadcast booth with the trophy standing behind Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier)

Guy Hauray: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this week’s edition of Lutte Internationale. As you can see, it’s a very special week for us since we can officially talk about the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup tournament that will take place in a little over 3 weeks at the Montreal Forum. 32 men representing 8 territories will vie to win this prestigious trophy behind me plus a check of $100,000 that they’re gonna bring back home as well. And Eddie, we have several names to announce over the next few weeks, starting with our representatives.

Édouard Carpentier: Indeed, Guy, and 3 of our 4 representatives will be in action this week. Promoter Frank Valois told us before we went on the air that of course, Jacques & Raymond Rougeau will enter the tournament, along with Frenchy’s Legion’s gatekeeper, George “The Animal” Steele and finally, Rick Martel.

Guy Hauray: Throughout the hour, we will unveil the representatives of 2 other territories, the AWA in Minneapolis as well as CWA in Memphis. We’ve got a loaded hour, featured by our main event as finally, the Rougeaus will get their hands on the Masked Cowboys! So let’s get to the action for our opening match.

***LUTTE INTERNATIONALE REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE JOHNNY ROUGEAU MEMORIAL CUP***

Rick Martel, George “The Animal” Steele, Jacques Rougeau & Raymond Rougeau

Match #1

Doug Somers vs King Tonga (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman)

Like if King Tonga couldn’t be in a fouler mood than he was last week after Sheik Ali cost him his match vs Gilles Poisson, Tonga is in an even worse mood and poor Doug Somers, as good as he is, can’t contain Tonga’s frustration and anger. Even though he can mount a bit of offense, Doug Somers falls prey to King Tonga’s Tongan Death Grip to secure the victory.

Winner: King Tonga

(As King Tonga leaves the ring with Eddy Creatchman, out comes Sherri Martel to the ring to check on Doug Somers. Somers seems to be confused but all seems clear once “Hotstuff” Eddie Gilbert stands outside the ring. Martel says something to Doug Somers and Somers decides to follow Sherri Martel and Eddie Gilbert outside and back to the locker room.)

Guy Hauray: I wonder what could Sherri have said to Doug Somers for him to follow her & Eddie Gilbert backstage, Eddie.

Édouard Carpentier: I don’t know but it looked like an interesting offer that Somers couldn’t pass up. This man has been searching for momentum ever since he stepped foot in Lutte Internationale but Sherri & Eddie Gilbert could represent his ticket to glory here.

Guy Hauray: Speaking of ticket to glory, Lutte Internationale’s superstars won’t be the only one looking to get some glory at the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup but representatives from the AWA will also be looking to win the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. We can confirm now that representing the AWA for the tournament will be Ron Garvin, Tito Santana, Don Muraco and the up-and-coming sensation Al Perez!

Édouard Carpentier: What a great opportunity for all 4 men to make a statement. Especially for a kid like Al Perez, who’ll be getting in this tournament with nothing to lose. And we have to think that someone like Tito Santana, a current champion in the AWA, has a good shot at going far in the tournament.

Guy Hauray: And still to come, the Memphis delegation will be announced. But after the break, Carlos Colon and Leo Burke are in action!

**************COMMERCIAL BREAK***************

Match #2

Carlos Colon vs Leo Burke

Both Carlos Colon and Leo Burke were part of Gino Brito’s exhibition showcase last week but this time, they’re in official singles competition. Colon and his tag partner from the Caribbean Connection, Chicky Starr, have been on a roll lately, but Colon also proves to be an excellent singles wrestler. But in the end, Carlos Colon tries one move too many as Burke counters a Colon attempted suplex and locks in a bearhug on Colon. Colon has no choice but to give up and Burke gets an important win.

Winner: Leo Burke

(After the match, Burke helps Colon back up and shakes hands with him. Burke leaves the ring and as Colon wants to do the same, here comes one half of the International Tag Team Champions, Afa, jumping Colon from behind. Eddy Creatchman isn’t too far behind and he’s directing traffic as Afa is choking the life out of Carlos Colon. Guy & Édouard mention that Chicky Starr isn’t here yet, as he’s scheduled to compete later today in an 8-Men Tag Match, so who will help Colon? It’s at this moment that the International TV Champion Gino Brito runs in for the save. Gino Brito asks for the ring announcer’s microphone)

(Translation : Creatchman, I don’t know if your savage understands French but you do so give him this message right now; if Afa is looking for a fight, he’s got his man. I’m even gonna put my TV title on the line right now against him!)

(It doesn’t take long for Eddy Creatchman to give Brito an answer. He simply nods yes and yells at Afa to get in the ring right now!)

Guy Hauray: How about that, Eddie? We’re gonna have an impromptu International TV Championship match!

Édouard Carpentier: And I wonder what “Dr. D” David Schultz will think about that. This can directly impact his International TV Championship on September 13 at the Forum!

Guy Hauray: Whether he likes it or not, it’s gonna happen right now as referee Adrien Desbois is already in the ring to start the match!

Match #3

International TV Championship

Gino Brito © vs Afa (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman)

Right away, Gino Brito shows a mean streak and charges at one half of the International Tag Team Champions. Brito has control early in the match but it doesn’t take too long before Afa capitalizes on a missed high knee in the corner by Brito to regain the momentum. This proves to be the toughest title defense for Gino Brito yet, to the point where the broadcast team suggests that for the first time since its inception, the International TV Championship might to a TV time limit draw. The second half of the match is completely dominated by Afa and under the tutelage of The Brain outside, Afa is now moments away of adding the International TV Championship to his résumé. Afa sets up Brito with a scoop slam and goes for a second-rope headbutt but Brito dodges and Afa hits the mat. Brito comes back to his senses and mounts a spectacular comeback. The ring announcer indicates the last minute before the time limit expires and both competitors are in scrambling mode. Finally, Gino is able to lock in the Figure Four Leglock on Afa but the bell rings and unfortunately, the time limit expires and Gino Brito retains the championship.

Time limit draw – Gino Brito retains the International TV Championship

(Referee Adrien Desbois hands over the International TV Championship to Gino Brito and he leaves the ring; as Afa who does the same with Eddy Creatchman)

Guy Hauray: Gino Brito benefitting from the championship advantage but as we both know him, Eddie, he certainly wished he could’ve won it fair and square.

Édouard Carpentier: Gino is one tremendously proud competitor, like all Italians and I’m convinced he would’ve liked to prove to David Schultz that he doesn’t need a time limit to retain his championship.

Guy Hauray: More action when we come back.

***COMMERCIAL BREAK + PROMO AD FOR SHERBROOKE LIVE EVENT ON AUGUST 25 & JOHNNY ROUGEAU MEMORIAL CUP ON AUGUST 27-29***

Guy Hauray: Welcome back to Lutte Internationale and before we head to our next match, we will unveil the participants that will represent CWA in the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. And for the occasion, they will send 2 tag teams but all 4 men are very formatable singles wrestlers.

Édouard Carpentier: Indeed. The Rock N’ Roll Express of Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson and the Dream Team of Austin Idol & Buddy Landell led by Johnny V will show up in Montreal with the intention of bringing the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup to promoter Jerry Jarrett. And it’s a very real possibility.

Guy Hauray: We never know what’s gonna happen and it’s anyone’s game. Next week, we will unveil the participants from Mid-Atlantic, USWA and WWF!

***CWA REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE JOHNNY ROUGEAU MEMORIAL CUP***

Ricky Morton, Robert Gibson, Austin Idol & Buddy Landell (w/Johnny V)

Match #4

8-Men Tag Team Match

The Kay Brothers, Billy Robinson & George Steele (w/Frenchy Martin) vs Hercules Ayala, Dino Bravo, Chicky Starr & Armand Rougeau

Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier note that this is the first official TV match that involves both Billy Robinson & Dino Bravo at the same time and speculate if this will get out of hand. Billy Robinson does everything to avoid Dino Bravo in this match as Chicky Starr is getting worked on early in the match. But finally, Dino Bravo gets the hot tag and he immediately goes for Billy Robinson and whips him inside the ring. It’s raining fists and the crowd goes crazy as Bravo and Robinson are pummelling each other while their other teammates are trying to get involved to stop the melee. Referee Luigi Macera has no choice but to throw out the match.

No-Contest

(As chaos ensues in the ring, Armand Rougeau is backing away from the action, seeing that officials are getting things under control. But that’s the moment chosen by The Masked Cowboys to sneak in the ring and club Armand in the back with a branding iron! Armand goes down hard and The Masked Cowboys are doing a number on the youngest Rougeau. However, it doesn’t take long for Jacques & Raymond Rougeau to come to the ring and rescue their little brother! Crowd goes nuts as the Cowboys and Rougeaus are now trading fists.)

Guy Hauray: Finally, the Rougeaus couldn’t take any more of this and they’re now getting their hands on the Masked Cowboys.

Édouard Carpentier: The sooner the referee rings the bell, the sooner the Rougeaus will get this over with. And they’ve been waiting long enough!

(Finally, things are back into control and referee Luigi Macera has sent both teams in their respective partners. The bell is ring and we have our main event!)

Main Event

Match #5

The Masked Cowboys vs The Rougeau Brothers

Just like the preceding melee, this match is as chaotic. The Rougeaus are showing a more aggressive attitude in this match and are using their fists more than their scientific attitude. However, the Cowboys use the overload of emotions to their advantage and capitalize on a big mistake by Jacques who misses a dropkick in the middle of the ring. The Cowboys with frequent tags to keep each other fresh and they eventually are smelling victory. Cowboy #1 is setting up Jacques Rougeau for a piledriver but Jacques reverses and back body drops Cowboy #1. Jacques crawls towards his corner and finally tags in Raymond. Raymond is all over the Masked Cowboys and he has turned the tide for his team. Raymond signals for the end and Masked Cowboy #1 comes in to stop the Rougeaus but gets nailed with Raymond’s Savate Kick! Cowboy #1 rolls to the side and Raymond sets up Cowboy #2 and Jacques hits La Bombe Rougeau on Cowboy #2. Jacques covers #2 while Raymond holds off #1 to get the victory.

Winners: The Rougeau Brothers

(The Rougeaus celebrate but victory doesn’t seem to be enough. The Rougeaus tell the crowd that they’re gonna take the masks off now! Much to the crowd’s delight, the Rougeaus restrain the Masked Cowboys, who are still fighting, and after a few seconds, they pull off the masks – IT’S BOB ORTON & DICK SLATER FROM THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION!!!)

Guy Hauray: Eddie, are you seeing what I’m seeing???

Édouard Carpentier: I thought we would never see them back once they left Detroit but they are here! The Masked Cowboys were Bob Orton and Dick Slater all along!

(The Rougeaus stand in shock as Bob Orton and Dick Slater don’t seem defeated at all, for a team who just got beat. Instead, they’re just laughing and pointing at the Rougeaus. One of the premier tag teams in WWF instantly got inside the heads of the territory’s most beloved tag teams. This episode of Lutte Internationale concludes with the Rougeaus staring at the Masked Cowboys’ masks while Orton & Slater are retreating backstage with a big smile on their faces.)

Lutte Internationale TV

Taped at CHLT-TV, Sherbrooke, QC

August 11th, 1984

hqdefault.jpg

(After the opening credits, we go to the broadcast booth as Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier are waiting in front of their desk for the show to start)

Guy Hauray: Hello, wrestling fans, and welcome to this week’s edition of Lutte Internationale TV. Everyone’s still reeling from the shocking ending of last week’s show when WWF’s “Cowboy” Bob Orton & “Dirty” Dick Slater were revealed as the Masked Cowboys after being unmasked by the Rougeau Brothers in the main event.

Édouard Carpentier: Indeed, Guy, no one expected Orton & Slater to come here, especially after bolting from the territory when Frank Valois bought Big Time Wrestling from Detroit and moved it to Montreal. We have no idea why Orton & Slater have targeted the Rougeau Brothers but we should have an answer tonight as I understand since they’ve taped a message we’re gonna show you in a few moments.

Guy Hauray: Since we’re in the subject, we should take this opportunity to announce who will represent the World Wrestling Federation for the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup in a little over 2 weeks. We can confirm that Bob Orton & Dick Slater will both represent WWF in the tournament but they will be accompanied by Randy “Macho Man” Savage and one half of the Hart Foundation, Bret Hart!

Édouard Carpentier: And here is the message that Orton & Slater taped right after we went off the air last week.

*******EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE*********

(Cut to the taped video as Orton & Slater are sitting in an empty locker room, still in their Masked Cowboys gear. Both have a huge smile on their faces)

Bob Orton: I know that a lot of people are wondering what the heck are we doing here while we don’t even work in Montreal but allow us to enlighten you a bit. You see, it never was our plan to go to WWF from the start. When Frank Valois bought the Detroit territory and moved it to Montreal, we figured that Dick and I would just go up there and raise some hell like we did down there. But then, we learned that the Rougeaus were coming back home from Central States and they were going to headline the territory. Which was fine by us. We love some competition. But then, we got a phone call from Frank Valois telling us that he had to make room for the Rougeaus on the roster and he was letting us go. Trust me, we didn’t like it one bit because if you ask everyone around, we were THE best tag team in Detroit. And we were hellbent on proving it once we got here.

Dick Slater: But because Montreal wanted to do favours for their hometown boys, this couldn’t happen. But everyone that knows Orton & Slater know that we wouldn’t take this lying down and that’s exactly what we did. The best way for us to exact revenge on the Rougeaus was to take away the most important moment of their lives. So we got to the Montreal Forum, we put those Masked Cowboys masks on and we did what we had to do to make a statement. The Rougeaus took something from us, we took something from then. Tit for tat. And we don’t regret a damn thing about it.

Bob Orton: And then, we heard that Frank Valois was booking a tournament to honor the late uncle of the Rougeaus at the end of August. That’s another opportunity we couldn’t pass up. We begged Vince McMahon to send us here. We don’t beg for much but we want in this tournament so bad. And we also pray that either one of those Rougeau boys will be in our bracket because it’s gonna make things even sweeter. We’re in this tournament and we’re gonna make sure you ain’t winning it.

Dick Slater: Trust us boys...we’re gonna make sure you wish you never came back here.

(Back to the arena, Guy & Édouard are now seated at their desk)

Guy Hauray: Orton & Slater made it clear: they felt slighted by the arrival of the Rougeau family to Lutte Internationale and want to exact revenge on them.

Édouard Carpentier : And they did a very good job in doing that. I’ve rarely seen the Rougeaus in this frame of mind. Imagine if they cross paths in the tournament now.

Guy Hauray: We’ll have to wait for the tournament to see this but we’re ready for action so let’s get things started.

*****WWF REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE JOHNNY ROUGEAU MEMORIAL CUP*****

Bob Orton, Dick Slater, Randy “Macho Man” Savage (w/Miss Elizabeth) & Bret Hart (w/Jimmy Hart)

Match #1

The Kay Brothers vs The Oates Brothers

A battle of two teams in the lower part of the tag team division totem pole. The match has been underway for a few moments when all of a sudden, Dennis Condrey, Randy Rose & Adrian Adonis charge the ring and attack the Oates Brothers! Referee Luigi Macera immediately calls off the match and awards it to The Oates Brothers

Winners: The Oates Brothers by DQ

(Condrey, Rose & Adonis are pounding on both teams and Adonis throws Randy Kay outside. While Condrey & Rose are beating up on the Oates Brothers, we then see none other than Jim Cornette waltz on the set with his trademark tennis racket and cheering on his team. Adrian Adonis whips Rudy Kay head first into the broadcast booth and then gets back in the ring. Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose double team Jerry Oates and hits the Double Flapjack on him. Then, while Adrian Adonis locks in a sleeperhold on Bobby Kay, Condrey & Rose set up Ted Oates and hit the Rocket Launcher on him. Jim Cornette gets in the ring and celebrates with the trio. Then, Cornette steps out of the ring and goes to the broadcast booth with Édouard Carpentier is waiting to interview them.)

Édouard Carpentier: Jim Cornette, what are you doing here in Montreal???

Jim Cornette: What am I doing here? Are you kidding me? This is the territory that everyone is talking about in the wrestling world and you expect me to stay on the sidelines? Oh, no, no, no, you don’t know Jim Cornette very well then. I’m here to introduce Lutte Internationale to the most dangerous and lethal wrestling combination you’ll ever find on God’s Green Earth: “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey, “Ravishing” Randy Rose and “Adorable” Adrian Adonis. I give to you THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS!

Édouard Carpentier: What are you looking to accomplish here?

Jim Cornette: Are you that dumb, old man? What do you think we’re here to do? We’re not sightseeing here. We’re here to be the most dominant tag team in professional wrestling. We’ve heard about the Rougeau Brothers. We’ve heard about the Wild Samoans, we’ve heard about the Caribbean Connection, about Frenchy’s Legion and we just wanna join in on the fun! It ain’t a party until you have the Midnight Express invited to that party. And since Lutte Internationale is the place to party, we’ve decided to establish ourselves here. I have all the respect in the world for Eddy Creatchman but he better not think for a second that we will hesitate to take those International Tag Team Championships away from them. Loverboy Dennis & Ravishing Randy are two of the finest tag team wrestlers there is and they can beat any team on any given night and we’re gonna prove it to everyone. And as for Adorable Adrian, well, I looked at Gino Brito’s International TV Championship and I thought it would look oh so much more better around Adrian Adonis’ gorgeous waist. I’m perfectly aware that Gino Brito is set to defend his title against David Schultz next month but don’t think for a split second that we won’t be watching this carefully because Adrian Adonis has his eyes set on dethroning Gino Brito as the International TV Champion. And trust me, once Loverboy Dennis & Ravishing Randy win the International Tag Team Championship and Adorable Adrian becomes the new International TV Champion, there will be no denying that I, James E. Cornette, am the smartest & best manager in the entire wrestling world!

(Jim Cornette leaves with his Midnight Express trio and goes back to the locker room)

Guy Hauray: There you have it, Jim Cornette has brought his Midnight Express to Lutte Internationale and he brought an extra member with him in Adrian Adonis. Do you think he will be successful?

Édouard Carpentier: Nothing beats a motivated stable or tag team. Jim Cornette’s men are very hungry and once they’re put in the ring with our top tag teams, this is sink or swim time. We’ll see what the Midnight Express is made of.

Guy Hauray: Later tonight in our main event, Rick Martel will square off with one half of the International Tag Team Champions Sika but when we come back, Billy Robinson is in action!

*****COMMERCIAL BREAK + PROMO AD FOR JOHNNY ROUGEAU MEMORIAL CUP*****

Match #2

Doug Somers (w/Sherri Martel & Eddie Gilbert) vs Billy Robinson

Following the events of last week in which Somers left with Sherri Martel & Eddie Gilbert following his loss to King Tonga, Sherri & Hotstuff are at ringside with him in his match vs the British veteran. Somers seems a bit overmatched at first against Robinson but with the guidance of Sherri & Gilbert, Doug Somers is able to mount some nice offensive series. Towards the end of the match, Billy Robinson is fully in control and is about to lock a bearhug on Somers to win the match when Eddie Gilbert & Sherri Martel climb on the ring apron. Robinson lets go of Somers but instead of going after Sherri & Gilbert, Robinson decides to get out of the ring and goes for the timekeeper’s chair. Robinson slides back in the ring and is about to hit Somers with the chair when Dino Bravo slides in the ring behind Robinson and takes the chair away from him. Bravo returns on the ring apron and jawjacks with Robinson, allowing Somers to roll up Robinson for the victory! Doug Somers is stunned that he was able to get the victory but Sherri Martel & Eddie Gilbert celebrate with him and the trio leaves together. Meanwhile, Dino Bravo still has the chair in hand and invites Robinson to fight but Robinson wants no part of Bravo and he decides to retreat to the locker room instead.

Winner: Doug Somers

***********COMMERCIAL BREAK******************

(Back from the break, Guy & Édouard are waiting at the broadcast booth)

Guy Hauray: Before we head to the ring for our International TV Championship match, we will now announce who will represent Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling in the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. And Eddie, we have quite the experimented contingent sent by Jim Crockett to represent their territory.

Édouard Carpentier: Yes, Guy. We can now confirm that Nikolai Volkoff, Larry Zbyszko, Superstar Billy Graham and Barry Windham will be representing Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling in 2 weeks. You have to believe that Barry Windham has to be considered one of the favourites to win the whole tournament. He’s been breathing down NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair’s neck for a long time now and anyone who can stand toe-to-toe with the Nature Boy has to be highly regarded.

Guy Hauray: I couldn’t agree with you more, Eddie. Barry Windham is an elite athlete in this sport with a bright future ahead of him. Winning the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup would be a huge feather in his cap. So until then, we shall get to the ring for our next match!

Match #3

International TV Championship

George “The Animal” Steele (w/Frenchy Martin & “Dr. D.” David Schultz) vs Gino Brito ©

With his September 13th opponent at ringside in the corner of the Animal, Gino Brito is extra cautious every time he goes near Frenchy’s corner. As expected, Gino Brito’s quickness allows him to gain the momentum early but eventually, George Steele’s brute force is too much to handle for the champion and Steele is in complete control. Frenchy Martin is directing traffic and Dr. D takes one or two cheapshots whenever he can on Brito. George is setting up Brito for an hammerlock bodyslam but somehow, Brito gets one arm free and is able to morph Steele’s move into a small package and secure the victory to retain his championship.

Winner and still champion: Gino Brito

(Dr D wastes no time and takes the International TV Championship belt from the timekeeper and connects with Brito’s head. The champ goes down and he seems busted open. Schultz continues his attack on the champion while George Steele & Frenchy Martin keeps the officials at bay. Eventually, David Schultz has done enough damage to his liking and poses with the International TV Championship before leaving the ring with George Steele and Frenchy Martin. Referee Luigi Macera checks on Gino Brito and he finally is able to leave the ring.)

**********COMMERCIAL BREAK**********

(Before the main event, Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier are standing in front of their desk, alongside the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup trophy)

Guy Hauray: Almost time for our main event but before we go there, it’s time to announce the 4 men who will represent the USWA for the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup and Eddie, this is probably the most impressive contingent we will have in the tournament.

Édouard Carpentier: Fritz Von Erich has decided to send the big guns to represent his territory. We’ve learned that Dusty Rhodes, “Hacksaw” Butch Reed, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy & Kerry Von Erich will be coming to Montreal from August 27 to August 29 and try to win this prestigious trophy.

Guy Hauray: We know how proud the Von Erichs are, especially Kerry, and this pride also spreads throughout the entire territory. All 4 of these men could easily come out victorious and bring back to Texas the $100,000 check for themselves. Next week, the 2 final territories, Pacific Northwest in Portland and Smokey Mountain Wrestling in Tennessee, will reveal their representatives to close the field. But now, let’s go to the ring for our main event.

Main Event

Match #4

Rick Martel vs Sika (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman)

A highly contested affair in this main event with both men at the top of their game. Martel obviously not fully recovered from his rib injuries at the end of Samu a few weeks back and Sika is working on those ribs as well as the neck area. During the match, International Heavyweight Champion Greg Valentine makes his way to the broadcast desk and watches the match. Sika has things well into hands but one missed 2nd rope headbutt gives Martel time to recover. Valentine gets closer to the ring as he sees Martel coming back in the match. Rick Martel is able to secure the match away from Sika with a superb top rope cross body block to get the pinfall victory.

Winner: Rick Martel

(After the match, Greg Valentine approaches the ring but Rick Martel immediately steps outside, which prompts Valentine to back up a bit. Rick Martel asks for Guy Hauray’s mic and Guy obliges)

Rick Martel: Valentine, tu me demandais comment ça allait l’autre jour?

(Translation : Valentine, you asked me the other day how I was feeling? As you can see, I’m doing real fine. I’m not 100% yet but on September 13th, at the Montreal Forum, I will be. And I’m intending on taking that title away from you on that night. I’m waiting for you on September 13th, my friend!)

(The show ends as Rick Martel stares a hole at Greg Valentine while Valentine is just looking back at Martel, seemingly angry that he’s still willing to go after his title again.)

LUTTE INTERNATIONALE TV

Taped at CHLT-TV, Sherbrooke, QC

August 18th, 1984

hqdefault.jpg

(After the opening intro, Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier are waiting for the show to start at the broadcast booth.)

Guy Hauray: Hello everyone and welcome to Lutte Internationale TV. We’re getting closer and closer to the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup tournament and we’re ready to unveil the final participants to enter the tournament. We will start right away with the unveiling of another set of entrants. In case you didn’t know, the Pacific Northwest territory has ceased their activities shortly after naming their representatives. After further discussions among the Lutte Internationale officials, it has been determined that all 4 men are still gonna compete under the tournament, despite the majority of them signing with other territories. They will be competing as “independent representatives” for the occasion.

Édouard Carpentier: And those men are “Hangman” Bobby Jaggers, Eric Embry, Brett Sawyer & Jay Youngblood. They were the cream of the crop in Portland and despite the closing of Pacific Northwest, those individuals are sure gonna bring with them a tremendous amount of pride in this tournament. They won’t be easy pickings for whoever they face.

Guy Hauray: Most definitely not. All 4 men are looking to make an impact in the tournament and it’s anyone’s guess to see how far they’re gonna go. But now, we’re gonna head to the ring because we have many matches on deck this week.

***INDEPENDENT REPRESENTATIVES (FORMERLY FROM PACIFIC NORTHWEST WRESTLING)***

Bobby Jaggers, Eric Embry, Brett Sawyer & Jay Youngblood

Match #1

Charlie Cook vs Gino Brito (International TV Champion)

The International TV Champion looks in fantastic shape, despite his hard battle vs George “The Animal” Steele last week. However, Charlie Cook proves to be way less of an opposition than The Animal was last week as Gino Brito finishes things off quickly with a great cross body block.

Winner: Gino Brito

**********COMMERCIAL BREAK + PROMO AD FOR BOTH WWF/LUTTE JOINT SHOWS (MATINEE & EVENING************

Guy Hauray: Welcome back to Lutte Internationale TV. As we mentioned earlier, with the Pacific Northwest territory closing up, this opened up opportunities for the remaining territories to grab some of their top talents. Many have already found new homes and Lutte Internationale wasn’t going to stay idle while the other territories acquire more talent. We can tell you now that Frank Valois has gone and acquired 2 talents formerly from Portland, including one that will debut up next.

Édouard Carpentier: This man is a seasoned veteran and has terrorized every territory he went through with his dreaded Iron Claw. In just a few moments, The Spoiler will make his official debut for Lutte Internationale.

Guy Hauray: It’s gonna be interesting to see his allegiances coming into the territory but I bet that the likes of Eddy Creatchman, Frenchy Martin, Sherri Martel & Jim Cornette will all be interested in his services. Let’s get to the ring for his debut match!

Match #2

The Spoiler vs Buzz Tyler

The veteran masked grappler showed a lot of aggressiveness for his TV debut. The Spoiler also used an impressive contrast of roughness and agility by walking the top rope on point and hitting Tyler with a forearm on the neck. The Spoiler then made quick work out of Tyler by using the Iron Claw on Tyler to get the submission victory.

Winner: The Spoiler

******COMMERCIAL BREAK + PROMO FOR JOHNNY ROUGEAU MEMORIAL CUP*******

Guy Hauray: We’re now gonna reveal the final participants for the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup and those individuals will represent Smokey Mountain Wrestling in Tennessee. And once again, we’re gonna see 4 formidable athletes ready to represent their territory.

Édouard Carpentier: Those four individuals will be The Rock N’Roll RPM of Tommy Lane & Mike Davis, The Flame as well as the Smokey Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Champion, Tom Pritchard, along with Sunshine.

Guy Hauray: With his recent success in SMW, I think we can consider Tom Pritchard as a wildcard to go far in this tournament. And who knows how much of an x-factor Sunshine will prove to be for her man in this tournament.

****SMOKEY MOUNTAIN WRESTLING REPRESENTATIVES FOR THE JOHNNY ROUGEAU MEMORIAL CUP****

Tommy Lane, Mike Davis, The Flame & Tom Pritchard (w/Sunshine)

Guy Hauray: The field is now complete and at the end of the broadcast, you’ll be able to see on your screen the brackets for the tournament starting on August 27, with the 1st round. The 2nd round will take place the next night on the 28th and the quarter-finals, semi-finals & finals will take place on the 29th, with also an International Heavyweight Championship match right before the finals, with an opponent to be named in the next few days.

(Guy Hauray hasn’t finished talking that Richard “Le Magnifique” Charland crashes the stage with George “The Animal” Steele)

(The Animal sticking his tongue and nodding his head).

(Translation : Guy , Guy, Guy, you can hype everyone as you wish. This guy will win or that guy will look good but there’s no doubt in our mind that the one winning the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup will be the Animal, standing right next to me. Frank Valois perhaps thought he had done a favour to the Rougeaus by booking them in the tournament and naming it in memory of their uncle but I can tell you that this will turn into a nightmare because if you’re in the Animal’s way, it’s gonna be bad for you. I can guarantee you, Guy, that the Animal will win the tournament

Guy Hauray : Et que fais-tu de Rick Martel? Ou bien de Dusty Rhodes du Texas ou bien de Barry Windham de Mid-Atlantic? Ce sont tous des favoris pour l’emporter. (Translation : How about Rick Martel? Or Dusty Rhodes from USWA? Or Barry Windham from Mid-Atlantic? They’re all favorites to win.)

Richard Charland : HAHAHA!

(Translation : HAHAHA, are you kidding me, Guy? Those guys have no chance against George Steele. Because when you’re facing one Legion member, you’re facing them all. I’ll personally stand in as George Steele’s second throughout the whole tournament and I’ll bring back the Cup to Frenchy Martin. So, not only, we’ll have the championship belt but also the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. This will be the worst insult for Ricky Martel & the Rougeaus and it’s gonna be a great pleasure for us. You all better watch your back because we’ll only accept to win the whole thing and we’ll do everything so that George Steele leaves with it.)

(Charland & Steele leave the set)

Guy Hauray: So, an unexpected turn of events as George Steele will be seconded by Richard “Le Magnifique” Charland throughout the whole tournament! This can be bad news for everyone else.

Édouard Carpentier: We know that Frenchy Martin has always taught his Legion to act as one and especially for this tournament, this is what I’m expecting to happen. George Steele has probably become now the most dangerous man in the field.

Guy Hauray: Speaking of dangerous man, when we come back, Samu from the Creatchman Family will be in action!

*********COMMERCIAL BREAK***********

Match #3

Samu (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman) vs Armand Rougeau

Samu starts the match very aggressively, showing no mercy for the youngest Rougeau. Eddy Creatchman is directing traffic from ringside and his guidance just makes matters worse for Armand Rougeau. However, Armand is able to get an opening following a mistake from Samu in the corner. Armand gets the upper hand on Samu with a beautiful sunset flip after Samu’s attempt at a back body drop backfires on him!

Winner: Armand Rougeau

(After the match, an enraged Samu jumps on Armand and chokes him, even using Eddy Creatchman’s cane in the process. Samu doesn’t let go, knowing full well that his brothers aren’t here this week to help him out. Thankfully, a couple of officials run in to stop the carnage but Samu still doesn’t wanna let him go. Then, from somewhere in the audience, The Missing Link charge the ring and everyone just stops what they’re doing. Samu releases Armand Rougeau and just stares at the Link. Not a word is exchanged as Eddy Creatchman is trying to convince his protégé to back out of the ring. Finally, Samu retreats with Creatchman as The Missing Link is keeping an eye on him before banging his head on the top turnbuckle)

Guy: The Missing Link is here in Lutte Internationale, Eddie! Has Samu found his match?

Édouard: He could very well have, Guy. Samu is one of the most dangerous men in Montreal but I don’t know if anyone can match The Missing Link in terms of craziness. Perhaps a meeting between these two in the future!

Guy: When we come back, Mad Dog Lefebvre is in action!

**********COMMERCIAL BREAK************

Match #4

Mad Dog Lefebvre (w/Frenchy Martin) vs “Pretty Boy” Doug Somers (w/Sherri Martel)

It looks like Sherri Martel is doing wonders for Doug Somers as he starts the match in offense mode, using his speed & technique but Mad Dog Lefebvre’s strength & experience ends up overmatching Somers. Pretty Boy gave it a good fight but in the end, Mad Dog Lefebvre picks up the win with a powerslam.

Winner: Mad Dog Lefebvre

**********COMMERCIAL BREAK***************

MAIN EVENT

Match #5

Kendo Nagasaki & Adrian Adonis (w/Jim Cornette) vs The Wild Samoans (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman)

The odd thing noticeable as the match starts is that Kendo Nagasaki refuses to take off his entrance gear and wants Adrian Adonis to start the match against the Samoans. Adonis obliges but as good as the Adorable One is, the Samoans’ teamwork eventually becomes too much to handle for Adonis. Cornette yells at Nagasaki to take the tag but every time, he’s turned away by Nagasaki who points at Adonis to keep going. Towards the end of the match, Jim Cornette gets carried away and climbs on the apron to get in Nagasaki’s face. That draws everyone’s attention, including Sika who stops his beating of Adonis in the ring. Nagasaki shoves Cornette on the apron and Sika approaches Nagasaki. Nagasaki takes off his mask and spit green mist in the eyes of Sika! Sika staggers into an Adonis roll-up and he gets the three as a camera shot reveals that Chicky Starr was under the Kendo Nagasaki gear with the face paint and everything. Cornette wastes no time leaving backstage with Adrian Adonis, celebrating, while the show ends on Chicky Starr pointing at the Samoans’ tag team titles, obviously getting revenge for his partner Carlos Colon after being attacked by the Wild Samoans a while ago!

Winners: Kendo Nagasaki (Chicky Starr) & Adrian Adonis
