rainmakerrtv
AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN/TSN for December 7th Lord Humongous vs. Mike Rotunda Rotunda won by countout when he clotheslined Humongous over the top rope. Sheikh Kaissie tried to interfere but was stopped cold when the returning Steven Regal hit him with the Iron Fist Buddy Rose, Ed Wiskowski & Koko Ware vs. Eddie Gilbert, Rip Oliver & Bob Sweetan Strangely, Ware seemed entirely disinterested in the match and spent it on the ring apron. When Rose was going for the hot tag, Ware jumped off the ring apron and slowly walked to the back, leading to Rose getting blindsided by Gilbert and losing by pinfall. Ron Garvin vs. Ricky Santana Hot off winning the AWA Southern Tag Titles, Garvin destroyed the former champ, Ricky Santana, with the Hands Of Stone punch after a particularly vicious Garvin Stomp. Al Perez was nowhere to be seen in this match. Road Warrior Animal vs. David Schultz Animal won by DQ when Buzz Sawyer attacked him with a chain. Sawyer and Schultz beat down Animal with the chain until Hawk rushed in and cleared the ring. Mr. Olympia vs. Paul Orndorff Orndorff won with a sunset flip out of the corner

kevinmcfl
I agree. ESPN has kind of been a precursor to current TV were they put some interesting matches on TV. So many promotions of the 1980's just jad a bunch of squash matches but this is much more interesting.

rainmakerrtv
AWA Show from the International Amphitheater, Chicago, December 9th The Cuban Commandos vs. The Latin Lovers Valentino brought home the win for the Latin Lovers with a rollup on Morrow "Crusher" Jerry Blackwell vs. The Great Gama Singh Blackwell squashed Singh with a running splash Curt Hennig vs. Bob Sweetan Hennig won with a running cross body block AWA American Title match : Don Muraco © vs. Da Crusher Muraco won after hitting Crusher in the head with a chair when the ref was distracted AWA Southern Title match : Ricky Steamboat © vs. Mr. Olympia It looked like Olympia would get the win with a Sleeper hold, only for Steamboat to kick back from the corner and bridge out into a pinfall AWA World Title match : Ken Patera © vs. Greg Gagne Patera won with a second rope kneedrop to Gagne's ribs
rainmakerrtv
Apart from helping with the introduction of new wrestlers, squash matches really don't help with my TV format. I prefer to use it to set up angles and matches (like the Roadies vs. Sawyer and Shultz) or have their own little storylines (like Regal and Rotunda taking on Lord Humongous). Koko had been a member of the First Family in Memphis as a heel. I have huge love for Koko but he has been kind of spinning his wheels lately. I've come up with a fun angle for him that I think folks will find interesting.
kevinmcfl
I agree with you on the ideas of TV. If the AWA and NWA had done this, they might have lasted longer as true national powers. Also, it is easier in this game to give the readers what they want.
gordi
It certainly makes for more interesting reading to book your TV this way.
rainmakerrtv
AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN/TSN for December 14th The Can-Am Express vs. The PYT Express After walking out on Playboy After Dark last week, it looks like Koko Ware has found a new partner in the newly arriving Brickhouse Brown. Both men came to the ring wearing shades and red leather jackets. While they came off as extremely arrogant, the PYT Express were extremely polished in the first match, finishing Zenk off with a spike brainbuster. Badd Company vs. Buzz Sawyer & Dave Schultz While Badd Company gave a very good accounting of themselves, in the end they were overwhelmed by Col. Buck Robley's Army, with Tanaka being pinned after a huge double lariat. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Al Perez After Wahoo's partner, Ron Garvin, pretty much ran Ricky Santana out of the AWA last week, it looked like McDaniel would do the same to Al Perez this time out. Perez was very wary of locking up with Wahoo, who came after him with massive chops and finally got him down in the Indian Deathlock. It seemed like that would be it for Perez, but help came from an unexpected source when "The Cuban Assassin" Angel Acevedo charged into the ring and attacked Wahoo, ultimately hitting an over-the-shoulder neckbreaker on the Chief. He and Perez then put the boots to Wahoo until Garvin charged the ring and ran them off. Eddie Gilbert vs. Curt Hennig After a lengthy, back and forth battle, Gilbert had gotten the advantage with a nasty low blow, but was unable to capitalize as Buddy Rose came out of nowhere to enter the ring and started savagely pummeling him. Gilbert was given the victory by DQ and Hennig had to pull the Playboy off Hot Stuff before he took it too far. Paul Orndorff vs. Bob Roop After a match where Roop spent much of his offense working over Orndorff's right arm to set him up for the Shoulder Breaker, Orndorff was able to pick up Roop with his left arm and hit a one armed power slam for the win. After the match, Orndorff was bellowing, "Where's Patera? I want Patera!"

rainmakerrtv
AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN & TSN for December 21st William Regal & Mike Rotunda vs. Lord Humongous & Sheikh Adnan Kaissie Humongous and Kaissie spent much of match brutally beating on young Regal while savagely attacking Rotunda any time he tried to come in to rescue. Kaissie hit a big belly to back suplex to finish him off, but failed to realize that Regal had tagged in Rotunda at the last second. Rotunda picked up Kaissie in an airplane spin before hitting a Samoan Drop, and Humongous was unable to make it in time to stop the pin. Rotunda and Regal got the win, but took a lot of lumps to get it. The Latin Lovers vs. Buzz Sawyer & Dave Schultz Sawyer and Schultz have been particularly reckless of late to try to make their mark as contenders for the world tag titles, and showed no concern about hurting Valentino and Cruz and they tossed them around the ring before Sawyer powerslammed Cruz, leading to a flying elbow drop from Schultz for the victory. Koko Ware vs. Ed Wiskowski The Polish Prince was seeking revenge for Koko abandoning Playboy After Dark. While Koko was being cautioned by the referee, Koko's partner in the PYT Express, Brickhouse Brown, hit Wiskowski with a top rope missile dropkick. Koko got the pin , and afterwards the pair of them beatdown on Wiskowski until somebody rushed to the ring to the rescue. It was Ivan Putski, making his return to the AWA! He made the save and both members of the newly reunited Brotherhood Of Poland ran the PYT Express out of the ring, to the cheers of the fans. Greg Gagne vs. Bob Sweetan When Sweetan was setting up Gagne for the piledriver, Gagne caught him in a small package to get the win. The two proceeded to keep on slugging it out after the bell rang. Al Perez vs. Tom Zenk Al Perez was accompanied by "The Cuban Assassin" Angel Acevedo as he defeated Zenk with the Ally-Copter. Paul Orndorff vs. Botswana Beast Once again, Beast seemed to have no goal other than to injure Orndorff to keep him away from World champ Ken Patera. He didn't seem to be a good enough job, as Patera charged into the ring to attack Orndorff. He tried to lock Orndorff in the Full Nelson but the Road Warriors came out for the save. Orndorff won by DQ.

rainmakerrtv
AWA All-Star Wrestling on ESPN & TSN for December 28th Brickhouse Brown vs. Ivan Putski After a heated bout where the ref got knocked down, Putski wrapped up Brickhouse in a small package, but Koko Ware took advantage of the referee's incapacitation to roll them over so that Brickhouse was getting the pin. The ref, however, recovered in time to see Koko leaving the ring, and when he went over to caution him, Ed Wiskowski quickly entered the ring and reversed the pin back to Putski. The ref then counted the victory for Putski. "Doctor D" Dave Schultz vs. Vinnie Valentino With his partner Buzz Sawyer howling at ringside, Schultz tossed Valentino all over the ring, dropping him hard on his head several times, before piledriving him twice to finally take the win. Al Perez & Angel Acevedo vs. The Can-Am Express Perez and Acevedo are apparently now referring to themselves as the Latin Assassins. Perez left most of the work to Acevedo, who showed unprecedented viciousness in battering Lafon and Zenk before finally polishing off Zenk with an over-the-shoulder neckbreaker. Buddy Rose, Ricky Steamboat & Curt Hennig vs. Eddie Gilbert, Bad News Allen & Don Muraco While Steamboat was trying to punch his way out of a Muraco bearhug, Gilbert grabbed him by the hair from the outside and dropped him, throat first, onto the top rope. Bad News then came in with a running fistdrop to get the shocking victory. AWA World Tag Title match : The Road Warriors © vs. Rip Oliver & Bob Sweetan The Bad News Breakers actually put up a pretty stiff fight before the Roadies decided to take the metaphorical gloves off and blasted Oliver with the Doomsday Device for the win. Paul Orndorff vs. Kamala In the ongoing war between Orndorff and the Sinister Syndicate, he won by DQ when Kamala attacked the referee. AWA Canadian Title match : Mike Shaw © vs. Rick Martel Ever since his shocking loss of the AWA Canadian Title to Shaw 2 months ago, Martel has been gunning for a rematch. Throughout the match, Shaw kept working over Martel's ribs, while Martel attacked Shaw's legs and knees, trying to take him off his feet. Martel eventually went for a running cross body block, but Shaw caught him. It looked like history would repeat itself with Shaw hitting another big power slam, but his legs buckled from beneath him and Martel got the one-two-three, retaking the title to the cheers of the fans. SirEdger
Great main event between Patera and Rick Martel. Safe to say that Rick Martel might be in the top 3 of the most prestigious champs right now entering 1985, simultaneously holding 3 titles in 2 territories.
