ltrain1127 Posted January 5, 2017 Report Share Posted January 5, 2017 Debut show - January 5, 1985 MEMPHIS WRESTLING TV Tapings: Jan. 5, 1985 Opening segment: Lance Russell makes announcement of Monday show at Mid-South Coliseum, featuring show-opening 20-man battle royal to determine the top two contenders to be named the first Southern Heavyweight Champion. Those two contenders will battle in Monday’s main event for the title. Russell is interrupted by Paul Ellering, who cuts a quick promo saying he will have a major impact on the winner of the title. Commercial Match: Jerry Lawler def. Aaron Holt with piledriver in 3:59 Announcers note that Lawler is the “King of Memphis,” a legend in the business and is definitely a top contender to walk out champion on Monday. Post-match promo: Lawler urges the fans to show up and said he would be honored to be the first Southern champion. Lance Russell also announces the Southern champion will defend on the Jan. 14 Mid-South show and the first tag team champions will be crowned that night as well. That brings out Jimmy Jack Funk (Jesse Barr), saying he is looking for a partner to run roughshod all over Tennessee. Commercial Match: Black Bart def. Dennis Upton in 2:27 after using a cowbell behind the referee’s back Bart was in control the whole match and JJ Funk came to ringside to watch. Russell announces after the break Missouri Mauler will take on Pat Rose in a match for a spot in Monday’s battle royal. Adrian Adonis cuts a promo saying that he can’t believe he’s in Tennessee; he’s from New York and he’s obviously better than everybody here. Commercial Match: Missouri Mauler def.
