SmartMark15
One of the best classic Survivor Series style matches in history. Austin's career is on the line against Bischoff's team. Everyone played their roles pretty much perfectly in this match. Steiner made for a great bully jock, Henry was a powerhouse. Van Dam made a good guy to keep the action moving throughout the early stages of the match. Jericho and Christian made for satisfyingly annoying heel stooges. 3D were great filling out the early half with action along with Van Dam but the second half was the Shawn Michaels show. Probably one of Shawn's best performances in his entire career. Once he gets busted open, everything in the match gets tense and intense. His selling is on point and he makes a fantastic vulnerable babyface getting in just the right shots to even the odds. Orton is a great heel and he still had a lot of energy to his offense here. Made for a nice foil to Shawn here. The second half really takes this to the next level. Wonderful stuff. ****3/
Makai Club #1
It has a reputation for being one of the best survivor series tag matches of all time. Does it reach that expectation? Heck no. Quite opposite, I think it may just be one of the most overrated matches of all time. However that doesn't mean I hate this match because despite the plodding, forgettable first two thirds of the match, the match towards the end was amazing. HBK giving his all in a great face in peril performance against 3 guys. Great selling (I know, shock right), awesome hope spots, drama and the melancholy feeling of it all. Man, I get down just thinking about it. Good ending doesn't make this the best of the best. ***
ohtani's jacket
This was a standard elimination match up until the Michaels bladejob, and not a particularly inventive one. Michael's bladejob was pretty horrific by WWE standards. The match kicked up a gear with Shawn trying to defy the odds and save Austin's career. The ending was a bummer. Austin felt it, the crowd felt it. They took forever letting Austin get his heat back with the goodbye promo and the stunners on Jonathan Coachman and the security guards. Lawler being at a loss for words was a nice touch. Not sure why people think this is a classic Survivor Series tag. The early eliminations are an afterthought. The Michaels stuff was good, but not off the charts. Gotta agree with Makai's rating on this one.
