[1985-08-10-Mid South-New Orleans, LA] The Nightmare vs Dick Murdoch

The Nightmare (Randy Colley) also known as Moondog Rex and original Demolition Smash, won the North American Title from Terry Taylor on May 22, 1985 and decided from that point that he was  officially changing his name to "The Champion".   He is accompanied by Lord Humungous at ringside.    Murdoch charges towards The Champion at the bell, fakes a collar and elbow tie up and starts punching and elbowing Colley's head.    The Champion escapes to the outside, but Murdoch follows and rams his head twice into the apron.    Back in the ring, Murdoch whips him to the corner and nails him with a big forearm, he gets a one count.   Murdoch gets his opponent in a twisting arm-wringer, but Colley follows up with some forearms of his own.  Murdoch returns with a bionic elbow and an atomic drop for a two.   The Champion gets Murdoch with a big knee to the gut, Murdoch bails to the outside for a break.   Murdoch almost gets ambushed on the way in, but kicks The Champion, followed by another bionic elbow and some punches, but the Champion gets the advantage.   He starts hammering on Murdoch's forehead which is bandaged from a previous wound, he takes Murdoch outside and rams his head into the apron.   Murdoch gets him in the corner and is punching away, but the referee pulls Murdoch off to separate them.    The Champion reaches into his tights, loads his mask with a foreign object and headbutts Murdoch, sending him reeling down to the canvas.   He rips the bandage off and Murdoch is bleeding now and The Champ unleashed heavy blows and attacks the cut, big kneedrop for a two count.   The Champion will not stop hammering at Murdoch's bloody head, comes off the top with a double elbowsmash, snapmare and another kneedrop.   Murdoch whips the Champion to the corner and grabs his mask, turns it around so that his opponent can't see.   Suddenly out of nowhere, Sir Oliver Humperdink jumps on the apron, screaming at the referee.   Murdoch tosses the Champ into his manager, Humperdink falls down, Murdoch hits the vertical brainbuster suplex for the win at 7:55 to become the new Mid-South North American Heavyweight Champion.    The referee seems a bit confused as he hands the belt to Murdoch, but the decision stands.     Captain Redneck grabs the microphone, and says "Lousiana, I love you!!!" 

Three stars.    I can't wait to watch the two upcoming matches with Butch Reed on 9/22 and 10/14.
