DX is supposed to be two cool guys, but are they cool? Is it cool for a 37-year old (Hunter) and a 41-year old (Shawn) to run around pretending to be hip and acting like frat boys? Is the joke really on WWE and DX and the more they try to be cool the less cool they become? And what the hell was meant to be cool about that fat male stripper doing the crotch chop?

Definitely uncool. HHH vs. HBK is overdone, so the only way they can salvage this is by adding younger wrestlers to DX that would be cooler by default.

EDIT : Either that, or have an angle where the two realize that they're not young anymore and have to prove to the fans that they've still got it, but that's probably beyond the WWE writing team's ability to pull off right.

What kills me is JR will spout shit like "wrestling's a young man's game" and other things basically saying if guys can't get over, it's their own fault while at the same time ignoring their top act is a couple of forty(or almost)somethings doing the same gimmick they did 10 years ago.

It would have been interesting if they had kept the character development both have had and kept HHH as the ruthless destroyer of men and HBK as the reformed party guy who will superkick your teeth out for Jesus. Instead they're just regressed into a couple of goobers making dick jokes and references to Mike Myers movies.

It's all about booking and presentation.  If Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, who were both pushing 40 at the height of the NWO can come off as cool, than any wrestler can.  The problem is Shawn and HHH are overexposed and have lost the edge that made them cool in 97.

They are getting pops from the crowd but the fans obviously don't have an emotional connection with the gimmick.  What exactly are they rebelling against?  The fact that they dominate the main event scene and get preferential treatment?

With the NWO, the idea was that guys from the WWF were taking over the company (until WWF sued and that aspect was toned way down) so it wasn't such a potential detriment that Hall and Nash were pushing 40.  DX was designed to be the new generation not listening to the old farts anymore (ie their run ins with Commissioner Slaughter and the Hart Foundation).

At the time, while near 40, Nash and Hall were quoting current rap videos, Chris Farley movies and dressing like 20 year olds and no one in the WCW audience turned against them.  They were presented as cool heels and the fans bought it.  The fans now aren't given a reason to think that DX is cool.

Uncool and also a sign that there's nothing left to do with either guy. It presents greater problems too, as these guys could be used to help build up some younger guys, but the problem is that both guys have been around so long (and been on top so long) that it just makes everyone else look inferior by comparison. That problem, of course, is not exclusive to HHH and HBK, but they're not exactly helping wrestling move on for the sake of the future.

Which you see in every PPV match they ever have. For a gimmick getting a super push, the heat is very disappointing and that's because people don't care about DX beyond cheering for their toilet humor. People like DX enough to pop for their one-dimensional jokes, but they don't like them enough to care. They've been given no reason to.
