Global Wrestling Federation

mqdefault.jpg

Bill Watts: San Antonio, Texas, is the home of the Global Wrestling Federation, and it’s here because this is a fighting town. People here work hard for what they earn, and they know the difference between real effort and somebody trying to fool them. That’s what this company is built on honesty, toughness, and competition. The Global Wrestling Federation will not be run like other wrestling promotions. There are no contracts here. Nobody is guaranteed a job, a spot, or another appearance. You earn your place every time you walk through that curtain. If you impress, you’ll be back. If you don’t, you won’t. It’s that simple. This is not a place to hide. This is not a place to wait for an opportunity. This is a place where you step into the ring and prove you belong, because nobody here is going to carry you.

Championships in the Global Wrestling Federation will mean something. We’re not handing out belts because of a name or a reputation. The GWF Heavyweight Championship will be earned the hard way. Our first event will begin with a 20-man Battle Royal. Twenty men will walk into that ring knowing only two of them will survive it. The last two men standing will meet again later that night, one-on-one, in the main event, with the GWF Heavyweight Championship on the line. When that night is over, the first GWF Champion won’t be the loudest man or the most popular man. He’ll be the toughest man in the building. Global Wrestling Federation is about competition. It’s about endurance. It’s about separating the men who belong in this business from the ones who don’t. If you’re tough enough to survive here, step up. If you’re not, you won’t last.

GWF Major League Wrestling #1
Dated on 01/07/1991
Location: San Antonio, Texas TV Studio
Announcers: Bruce Prichard and Craig Johnson

San Antonio, fans filing in, the ring, banners reading “GLOBAL WRESTLING FEDERATION”]

Craig Johnson:
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to San Antonio, Texas! It is January 11th, 1991, and you are watching the very first event in the history of the Global Wrestling Federation. I’m Craig Johnson, and alongside me is Bruce Prichard. Bruce, this building is electric.”

Bruce Prichard:
“Craig, I haven’t felt energy like this since the Alamo—and that didn’t even have a battle royal with twenty large, angry men trying to throw each other over the top rope.”

Craig Johnson:
“That’s right. Tonight, history will be made. Our program begins with a 20-Man Battle Royal, and the final two men standing will meet later tonight in the main event to crown the first-ever GWF Heavyweight Champion.”

Bruce Prichard:
“In other words, Craig, you could wrestle twice tonight, survive nineteen other guys, and still walk out with the biggest prize in this company… or you could get tossed out in thirty seconds and be looking for the nearest exit and a hot dog.”

Craig Johnson:
“We’ve got competitors from all over the world, Bruce. Olympic-caliber athletes, international stars, and some of the toughest men ever to step into a wrestling ring.”

Bruce Prichard:
“That’s Bill Watts for you. No pretty boys, no dancing mascots—just big, strong humans hitting each other until someone can’t get back up.”

Craig Johnson:
“And it all leads to the GWF Heavyweight Championship later tonight. One man will leave as champion, setting the tone for this promotion moving forward.”

Bruce Prichard:
“Craig, I’ve seen a lot of first nights, and let me tell you—when you start a company this way, with a battle royal and a title on the line, you’re not easing into the pool. You’re diving in headfirst.”

Craig Johnson:
“Fans, don’t go anywhere. The opening bell is moments away, and the road to the GWF Heavyweight Championship begins… right now.”

Bruce Prichard:
“Twenty men enter, two men survive, and somebody’s leaving here with a very bad night—and somebody else is leaving with a very big belt.”

Opening Match
20 Man Over-The-Top Battle Royal
The Final Two Men Standing will face each other for the GWF Championship in the Main Event
Brad Rheingans, Genichiro Tenryu, Mike Sharpe, Zeus, Giant Haystacks, Mark Rocco, Mad Dog Goto, Larry Winters, Hiro Saito, Yoshiaki Yatsu, Rick Fuller, Miguel Perez, Ken Jugan, Ray Gonzalez, Reno Riggans, Rocky Iaukea, Scott Taylor, Steve Lombardi, Ron Wright, Duane Gill

This is your standard, chaotic Battle Royal — a free-for-all where every man has the same goal: impress Bill Watts and earn a shot at the title. Bruce and Craig are doing their best to keep up with the mayhem, but even they struggle to track all the action. Bodies are flying over the top rope, fists are swinging, and the crowd is eating it up. After a commercial break, nearly half the field is gone. We’re down to the last ten men, and they are still battling with everything they’ve got, pushing us toward the final six.

Final Six: Tenryu, Mike Sharpe, Brad Rheingans, Zeus, Giant Haystacks, and Steve Lombardi.
These six are leaving everything in the ring. Zeus is a wrecking ball, throwing his weight around and taking on everyone in sight. Giant Haystacks isn’t backing down, and the two monsters finally lock eyes, daring the other to make the first move. The crowd pops as they collide in the center of the ring, exchanging huge blows like two titans clashing. Bruce can’t help himself, comparing this clash to two unstoppable Terminators tearing through everything in their path. Zeus gets the upper hand, wrapping his massive hands around Haystacks’ neck, but the rest of the field takes advantage, working together to dump both Zeus and Haystacks to the floor. And even then, these two behemoths are still fighting, brawling up the ramp and disappearing behind the curtain as referees try in vain to separate them.

Final Four: Tenryu, Mike Sharpe, Brad Rheingans, and Steve Lombardi.
Now it’s down to four, and the intensity is off the charts. Tenryu squares off with Lombardi while Sharpe battles Brad Rheingans in a hard-hitting exchange. Steve charges, but Tenryu back-body-drops him over the top rope — and just like that, three men remain! Tenryu and Brad have a brief, tense exchange, while Sharpe patiently waits for his opportunity. Tenryu nearly sends Brad over the ropes, but Sharpe charges at full speed and, in the chaos, ends up dumping Brad Rheingans to the floor first. Tenryu clings to the apron, gasping for air, only to be slammed ribs-first into the barricade by Iron Mike Sharpe! Sharpe celebrates like he’s already champion, taunting the fans while the referee checks on Tenryu.

Despite the brutal attack, Tenryu will still return later tonight to face Mike Sharpe in the main event to crown the first-ever GWF Heavyweight Champion!

[Camera pans to the announcer’s desk. Mike Sharpe sits between Craig Johnson and Bruce Prichard, arms crossed, radiating confidence.]

Craig Johnson:
“Mike Sharpe, you just eliminated Brad Rheingans in the opening Battle Royal, and now you’ll face Genichiro Tenryu later tonight for the first-ever GWF Heavyweight Championship. How does it feel to be this close to making history?”

Mike Sharpe:
“History? Craig, forget history — I’m here to take what’s mine. I am Iron Mike Sharpe, and everyone in this building knows it. And let me make one thing perfectly clear: Bill Watts runs a company with no contracts, no guarantees, and no handouts. That’s exactly why this belt is so important. Because when I walk out as the first GWF Heavyweight Champion tonight, that doesn’t just mean I’m the strongest and the toughest — it means I’ll be here every week, making this company mine, whether Watts likes it or not. Tenryu can try, he can fight, he can scream — but there’s no stopping Iron Mike Sharpe tonight!”

Bruce Prichard (grinning, cracking a joke):
“Craig, he’s not just confident, he’s threatening the entire building and the boss himself!”

Craig Johnson:
“Well, you’ve got to admit — if anyone can handle the spotlight tonight, it’s Mike Sharpe.”

Mike Sharpe (pointing at the camera, smirking):
“This is my ring, my night, my championship. Iron Mike Sharpe is here to stay, and anyone in this company who wants a piece of me will learn exactly why they call me ‘Iron.’”

Bruce Prichard:
“Craig, subtlety is not his strong suit… but the steel pipe probably is!”

Singles Match
Scott Taylor vs Alex Pourteau
Taylor and Pourteau lock up in the center of the ring. Taylor shoves Pourteau into the corner and hits a stiff shoulder block, but Pourteau rebounds off the ropes and catches Taylor with a quick arm drag, sending him to the mat. Taylor gets up and hits a hard forearm, but Pourteau rolls through and locks in a side headlock, controlling Taylor on the mat. Taylor powers out and whips Pourteau into the ropes, attempting a clothesline, but Pourteau ducks and counters with a quick snap suplex. Both men get to their feet and exchange stiff forearms in the center of the ring. Taylor lands a running knee in the corner, but Pourteau stays on his feet, hitting a short-arm lariat that knocks Taylor down. Pourteau signals for the ending here. Taylor is in serious trouble. SLINGSHOT SUPLEX! 1….2….3!!!

Winner: Alex Pourteau

Craig Johnson: “Alex Pourteau just proved why he’s the man to watch in the Light Heavyweight Division tonight.”

Bruce Prichard: “That slingshot suplex was brutal, Taylor didn’t know what hit him!”

Craig Johnson: “Pourteau’s toughness and technique really came through, and he walked out looking like a future star.”

Bruce Prichard: “If you’re in the wrestling bubble, you better keep an eye on Iron Alex,  he’s going to be around a long time.”

Tag Team Match
Brett Como and Lenny St. Clair vs Bad Crew 1 and 2
Como starts against Bad Crew #1, both men circling before locking up. Como quickly gains the upper hand with a wrist lock and transitions into a hammerlock, controlling his opponent. Bad Crew #1 reverses and tags in Bad Crew #2, who comes in with a stiff clothesline that sends Como back. Como rolls to the apron and tags in St. Clair, who enters with a running shoulder block that knocks Bad Crew #2 into the corner. St. Clair whips Bad Crew #2 across the ring and follows with a hard elbow drop in the corner. Bad Crew #1 tags in and hits a double-team chop combo on St. Clair, bringing him down for a near fall. Como jumps in to break the pin and lands a short-arm lariat on Bad Crew #2, swinging momentum back toward the babyface team.

St. Clair catches Bad Crew #1 with a scoop slam, and Como hits a running crossbody off the ropes on Bad Crew #2, leaving both men down. The two teams trade near-falls in rapid succession — St. Clair blocks a whip from Bad Crew #1 and hits a powerslam, while Como hits a back suplex on Bad Crew #2. In the end, St. Clair lifts Bad Crew #1 into a scoop slam, and Como follows immediately with a hard elbow to Bad Crew #2 in the corner. St. Clair pins Bad Crew #1 clean for the three-count.

Winners: Brett Como & Lenny St. Clair

Como and St. Clair celebrate as the crowd cheers, showing their teamwork and toughness. The Bad Crew sells the punishment, but it appears they want a rematch, as they are arguing with the official over the result.

Craig Johnson: “Como and St. Clair really showed what teamwork looks like tonight, taking down the Bad Crew cleanly.”

Bruce Prichard: “Teamwork? Please, Craig… I’ve seen two toddlers fight over a toy with more skill than that! The Bad Crew couldn’t even get a decent tag in without tripping over themselves.”

Craig Johnson: “They gave them everything, Bruce…”

Bruce Prichard: “Everything? They gave them everything but a chance! Honestly, I’d pay to watch these guys try to run a grocery store. Come on, folks, this is wrestling and even I could’ve made that look better from my couch!”

[Camera cuts to a dark backstage hallway. Fog drifts across the floor. Vampire Warrior steps into frame, masked and cloaked, his voice low and raspy.]

Vampire Warrior:
“Next week… your world will change. The night belongs to the shadows, and the weak will tremble in fear. I have watched, I have waited… and soon, I will walk among you. Every man who dares to stand in my path will feel the cold embrace of darkness. The living will run, the brave will fall, and the blood of the unworthy will stain this ring. GWF… prepare yourselves, because the Vampire Warrior is coming.”

[He slowly lifts his arms as fog swirls around him, then retreats into the darkness, leaving only silence and the anticipation of his debut.]

Singles Match
Bruiser Bedlam vs Chris Von Erich

Chris Von Erich steps into the ring nervously, facing the massive Bruiser Bedlam. Bruiser immediately shoves Chris into the corner, delivering a series of stiff shoulder blocks that stagger the younger Von Erich. Chris tries to fight back with a few weak punches, but Bruiser shrugs them off, tossing him across the ring with a devastating whip. Chris hits the ropes and attempts a high clothesline, but Bruiser ducks and catches him in a bearhug, squeezing the wind out of him while the crowd gasps. Chris struggles to escape, but Bruiser throws him to the mat with a hard scoop slam. Chris crawls to the ropes, but Bruiser drags him back into the center and hits a vicious running powerslam. The crowd in Texas is horrified, chanting “Von Erich! Von Erich!” as Chris is barely able to rise. Bruiser picks him up once more, hurling him into the corner before climbing to the second rope. With the fans screaming in shock, Bruiser launches himself with a massive splash, crushing Chris to the mat. Bruiser pins Chris effortlessly for the three-count.

Winner: Bruiser Bedlam

Chris Von Erich is left laid out, writhing in pain, as the crowd boos and cheers in disbelief at the sheer dominance of Bruiser Bedlam. He stands tall in the ring, arms raised, looking like a true monster of the GWF, and the fans are left both terrified and buzzing for what’s next.

Craig Johnson: “I… I don’t even know what to say, Bruce. Chris Von Erich just got completely demolished out here tonight.”

Bruce Prichard: “I’ve seen a lot of guys come through Texas, Craig… a lot of tough wrestlers. But I’ve never seen anything like this. That man Bruiser Bedlam, he’s not just strong, he’s… he’s something else. Something terrifying. I can’t believe Chris is even alive after that.”

Craig Johnson: “The fans are shocked, Bruce… this was supposed to be a competitive match, and it turned into an absolute massacre.”

Bruce Prichard: “Competitive? There was no competition. Bruiser just made a statement a warning to everyone in the GWF. And let me tell you… I don’t want to be in the ring with him.”

[Camera cuts to Bruiser Bedlam in the ring, standing over Chris Von Erich, breathing heavily. He grabs a mic and glares into the camera.]

Bruiser Bedlam:
“You want to know what happens when you step into my world? This. Pain. Fear. Destruction. Chris Von Erich was lucky, lucky I didn’t break him in half tonight. But make no mistake… this is just the beginning. Anyone who thinks they can face me in this ring… anyone who thinks they can survive… they’re wrong. I am Bruiser Bedlam, and I don’t play by rules. I don’t play fair. I destroy. You will all remember my name… and if you’re smart, you’ll stay out of my way.”

[He drops the mic, flexes, and towers over Chris as the crowd boos and gasps, leaving the arena in stunned silence.]

Singles Match
Tony Stetson with Larry Winters vs Blue Demon Jr.
Stetson comes out aggressively, trying to overpower Blue Demon Jr. with stiff punches and a wrist lock. Demon reverses, using his speed to break free, and hits a stiff shoulder block that sends Stetson staggering. Stetson regains control briefly, pushing Demon into the corner, while Larry Winters shouts instructions and tries to distract the referee to give Stetson an opening. Stetson takes advantage of the distraction with a short clothesline and a hammerlock, but Demon shakes off the hold and fires back with a spinebuster. Stetson struggles to mount an offense, but every time he gains momentum, Winters tries to interfere, grabbing the ropes, stepping into the ring, or shouting to throw Demon off his rhythm. Demon dodges a late shove from Winters and counters Stetson with a low hurricanrana, flipping him to the mat. Demon rolls him up immediately with a tight victory roll, hooking the leg for the pinfall. 1…2…3!!!

Winner: Blue Demon Jr.

Before Demon can celebrate, Larry Winters storms into the ring and attacks him from behind. Stetson slides back in, and together they run Demon off, shoving him into the corner and retreating while shouting threats. Blue Demon Jr. gets back to his feet, raising his hand for the crowd, but the boos from Winters and Stetson’s interference linger, setting up a feud for the future.

Bruce Prichard: “Unbelievable! Tony Stetson had that match under control if it weren’t for that sneaky little maneuver by Demon!”

Craig Johnson: “Demon rolled him up clean, Bruce… he got the pin.”

Bruce Prichard: “Clean? Ha! Don’t make me laugh, Craig. If it weren’t for Larry Winters trying to keep things fair, Stetson would’ve crushed him in this ring!”

Craig Johnson: “The fans love Demon, but Stetson and Winters look furious — they’re not going to let this slide.”

[Camera cuts to the ring as the crowd cheers. Bill Watts steps out from behind the curtain, wearing his classic dress shirt and jeans. The fans pop loudly.]

Bill Watts:
“Ladies and gentlemen… I hope you’ve been paying attention tonight, because the GWF has brought you some of the toughest, meanest men in the world right here to San Antonio, Texas! You’ve seen power, you’ve seen speed, and you’ve seen brutality — and it’s only going to get better! Tonight, right here in the GWF, we’re about to crown our first-ever World Champion, and I can promise you… this is a match that I can’t wait to see!”

[Watts holds up the shiny GWF World Championship, and the crowd cheers.]

Bill Watts:
“This is what every man in this company has been working for. This belt means everything — pride, respect, and the right to call yourself the top man in the GWF. And to make sure that this match is fair… and no funny business happens in my ring… I’ve brought in someone you know, a Texas legend… a man who has seen it all, beaten it all, and knows how to make sure things get done right in this ring!”

[The crowd erupts as Watts points to the entrance.]

Bill Watts:
“Ladies and gentlemen… please welcome your special Ring Enforcer for tonight’s main event, the one and only Ernie Ladd!”

[Ernie Ladd walks out slowly to massive cheers, towering over everyone, flexing and staring down the ring. He climbs the apron, looks around the ring with authority, and nods at Watts.]

Bill Watts:
“Now that we have a man of experience keeping this contest in line, we are ready for the GWF World Championship match! You’ve seen chaos, carnage, and some incredible fights tonight, but this next match… it’s going to be explosive. And I guarantee… the man who walks out of this ring with that championship will be the best this company has to offer!”

[Watts gestures to the entrance ramp, pointing down the aisle to the final two men from the battle royal. The crowd pops as the tension builds for the GWF World Championship.]

GWF World Championship – Main Event
Mike “Iron” Sharpe vs Genichiro Tenryu
Special Ring Enforcer: Ernie Ladd

The arena is electric as the final two from the battle royal enter the ring. Mike Sharpe storms down the ramp, sneering at Tenryu and glaring at the crowd, his arrogance radiating. Tenryu walks in slowly, wincing slightly as he shifts his ribs a reminder of the punishment he took earlier in the battle royal, but his eyes burn with determination. Ernie Ladd climbs the apron, giving both men a piercing glare, signaling that this match will be enforced fairly.

The bell rings. Sharpe immediately targets Tenryu’s midsection with stiff punches, forearms, and a hard headlock, focusing on the ribs. Tenryu grimaces with each blow but powers out, landing a stiff back elbow. Sharpe sneers, mocking him, and slams him into the turnbuckle, hitting a series of hard shoulder blocks directly to Tenryu’s injured ribs. The crowd boos loudly as Sharpe keeps the pressure, driving Tenryu to the mat with a brutal scoop slam for a near-fall.

Tenryu fights to his feet, clutching his ribs, and counters with stiff kicks and a spinning heel kick, showing the fans a true warrior’s heart. Sharpe tries a running forearm, but Tenryu ducks and hits a crushing lariat, staggering the heel. Both men trade stiff strikes, forearms, elbows, and knees, with Tenryu taking some punishment but refusing to stay down.

Sharpe sets up for a scoop slam, grinning as he targets Tenryu’s ribs again, but Tenryu wriggles free, hitting a knee lift followed by a stiff shoulder tackle that turns the momentum. Tenryu signals for the finish, feeding off the crowd’s energy despite his injured ribs.

Tenryu lifts Sharpe and drops him with a POWERBOMB! slamming Sharpe hard onto the mat. The crowd erupts as he hooks the leg for the pinfall.

1… 2… 3!

Winner and NEW GWF World Champion: Genichiro Tenryu

Ernie Ladd raises Tenryu’s hand as the crowd goes wild. Sharpe sits up, furious, clutching his jaw as he glares at Tenryu, who slowly rises to his feet, still visibly favoring his ribs but triumphant. Tenryu holds the first-ever GWF World Championship, showing that heart, toughness, and warrior spirit can overcome even the toughest heel. The fans chant Tenryu’s name, as he is showing San Antonio that he is the true Final Boss in GWF!

Great start!  Nice to have you back.  Enjoyed the entire night.  While you said you were going to run an indy for a few months, this seemed like so more. Can't wait to see what you have next time.

Nothing like a nice, crazy battle royal to welcome the fans.

Really enjoyed the back-nd-forth between Johnson & Prichard.

Bruiser Bedlam makes a terrifying impression as he dismantles a Von Erich.

Tenryu overcomes the earlier assault ot become the first  ever GWF World champion. I thought that there might be funny business when I saw Watts and Ladd in the same ring but the Big Cat played it straight.
