Draft discussion, analysis and trash talk
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in The Archives
I went w/ the Road Warriors first overall because having both Hogan and LOD on my roster just before they hit their prime was too good to pass up. Some might argue that I "needed" to draft a worker that could work a program with Hogan right off the bat. That's a valid point, but you can get into trouble when you start drafting to fill perceived needs instead of taking the best wrestler(s) available. Give me a roster overflowing w/ talent and star potential. I'll find a way to fill needs. -
So we can keep the draft thread only for drafting, let's use this thread to explain the reasoning behind our picks, offer Mel Kiper-style analysis of other promotion's picks, or talk shit to each other.

It's looking like I'll be offline for a good chunk of the evening, so let's get this party started. **Roger Goodell walks out to the podium. Fans boo loudly. Goodell's heel heat is off the charts** With the first pick in the PWO Armchair Booking fantasy draft project, the AWA selects...... From Chicago, Illinois, combined weight 575 pounds, Hawk and Animal...THE ROAD WARRIORS!!!!! **Hawk and Animal are shown on camera leaving the greenrooom and walking on stage to greet Goodell. Goodell reaches out for a congratulatory handshake, but the Road Warriors stomp right past him. Hawk picks up the podium over his head and slams it down on Goodell, busting him open. Animal picks up a dazed Goodell and power bombs him off the stage and through a table. Goodell is taken off on a stretcher. The fans are going nuts. The PWO Armchair Booking fantasy draft is underway!** Since it took a tag team, the AWA forfeits its second-round pick. goc and Southwestern are on the clock.

I've hired rainmakerrtv to book the AWA. I'll be making all roster decisions (drafting, saving, trading, etc), rainmakerrtv is doing the booking. If we manage to piss each other off, maybe we can turn it into an angle -

Whatever got decided on freelancers (I lost track of the discussion) add it to the rules post. Ditto for policy on drafting tag teams. -

Random first round, snake the rest of the way. -
Oh God yes on Kauffman, Lauper and T. Only so I can bring them into the AWA and book them in angles w/ Verne!

Rules look good to me. Couple things: I would advise against linking future draft order to past performance. With 18 of us involved in this thing, there's no way we're all going to read everyone else's weekly TV/house shows/whatever, let alone track it closely enough to gauge performance. Someone just make a damn decision on how to handle freelancers.

Flair's podcast (WOOOOONation)
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Eh, wrestling's a job. Most people don't want to spend their time off the clock doing stuff related to their job. I think to a lot of the old-school wrestlers, they'd rather BS with their fellow wrestlers about wrestling instead of actually watching and following the product of other companies. -
My basement. Every card 6-year-old-me put on with my rubberized WWF action figures in the 80s was a sellout filled w/ 5-star classics.

What's the argument against randomizing round 1 and snaking every round after? Seems like most fair and least confusing option. -

I say random.org for round 1, snake for the rest of the draft. ......we need a commissioner type to just decide some of this shit. -

All the drama and nonsense in this thread has become confusing. Could we start a new thread to get back on track with the first post clearly stating: The rules (including freelancers) Any deadlines we should be aware of Who has what promotion Who's been protected Also, if you have a gripe about something, PM Grimmas to try and work it out instead of derailing a thread. Grimmas can take it to the rest of the group for discussion if he thinks it needs to be addressed by all. -

Probably not what you're looking for, but any of Jericho's losses on Nitro while he was transitioning from "Lionheart" to Monday Night Jericho/Y2J. -
Draft & ongoing booking project interest?

Interest in this type of thing usually fizzles quickly. The draft is fun and that first run of booking is interesting, then it gets repetitive and tedious. But we're a select bunch of dorks here at PWO. I'm thinking we can keep it going longer than these projects typically last. -

It's s snake draft, right? So whoever picks last in round 1 goes first in round 2? If we use option 3, that should help ensure that an A-list worker doesn't end up in a C-list promotion while still giving the C-list promotion an opportunity to build a decent roster. -
Was Miss Elizabeth as fat as Buddy Landell claims she was before she started dating Savage? Landell claims she was pushing 300 pounds. I know Landell is full of shit on a lot of things, but I'm particularly curious about this claim for some reason.

I like all of this. A couple things: 1. People don't have to wait for their exact time to draft. If they're scheduled to pick at 6 p.m., but everyone in front of them has their picks in by 4 p.m., the person set for 6 p.m. can make their pick. That's probably obvious to everyone, but I've been in fantasy leagues where people think they have to wait until their time, so I wanted to highlight it 2. I don't mind the freelance monthly draft, but I'll still propose that we put someone in charge of the freelancers to give them a personality similar to what they had in real life. I like the idea of working with Brody and arguing with him over a finish. Or going back and forth with Terry Funk to try and get him to come back to my territory after I pissed him off because of how he was booked last time. Teaming up with other promoters to blackball a freelancer might also be fun. Hell, I might even consider giving up my promotion and running the freelancers if we go this route! 3. I say to keep the fantasy aspect of things, we don't kill off wrestlers or end their careers based on real-life injuries or deaths. But we should have something that increases a wrestler's odds of dying/injury after the date of their real-life death/injury. For example: After the date of Magnum's accident, whichever promotion Magnum is in has to roll the dice five times instead of once to see if he gets injured. -

No need to be on the same time. Just run the draft through the board (or email if that's easier) and assign a block of time for everyone to make their pick. Do our best to assign the UK folks a block when they're actually awake. At the very worst, people can do round by round draft sheets and someone can make the pick for them based on who's left and who's on top of the person's sheet. -
