[1992-03-14-WWF-Superstars] Update: Wrestlemania Press Conference highlights
Loss replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
They show clips of a press conference in Indianapolis, where Flair arrives in a limo WEARING HIS ROBE. At a press conference? Then, we cut to Vince interviewing Flair at a high-end restaurant while the piano is playing in the background. Flair talks about dissension in their marriage and says he has a shoulder waiting for Liz to cry on. Fun stuff.- 10 replies

I love the strike battles with Vader and Chono. Chono starts getting a lot of fan support through Vader's mauling. Then it's Hashimoto's turn. His kicks look great. In fact, that's the biggest compliment I can give this match -- everything everyone does looks really crisp and connects well. Vader's dragon sleeper on Hash is tremendous. Doesn't really build to a hot finish in the way most matches did at the time, but it does sustain a pretty good pace all the way through. Worth seeing.

Now we get the full press conference. Sting says he'd like to go to Japan and defend the title. He also says, interestingly, that he felt Luger a little more than he ever felt Flair when asked to compare the ring styles of the two. As soon as he's asked who his next opponent will be, the Dangerous Alliance crashes things, with Rude wearing some type of all leopard outfit. Sting turns down Rude's proposed toast, so Rude throws his drink in Sting's face. The two brawl, the DA runs in to help, then Nikita Koloff shows up out of nowhere to even the sides. Really well done.

They show the SuperBrawl II press conference that happened after the show went off the air. They don't show the Dangerous Alliance crashing the party ... yet. But they also show highlights of Liger/Pillman. Bischoff says Kip Frey has traveled to Japan to negotiate some incoming stars, which for some reason irks DDP, who is starting to pursue a career as a wrestler.

We're back later in the show and Rogers is still doing squats. Horner kicks the chair out from under him at 59:30, so Rogers failed! No crowd reaction, which I was hoping for.

Bob Armstrong announces that Ron Wright is banned from ringside unless he starts managing someone. Wright interrupts him to say he can't believe he's picking on a cripple, but Armstrong won't fall for it. He gets sick of Wright talking, and Armstrong wheels him out of the building! Funny.

Horner tries to do a promo, but keeps getting interrupted by Rip Rogers telling him to shut up and focus on him doing his squats! Horner offers him $500 saying he can't do squats the whole hour.

[1992-03-07-SMW-TV] Interview: Rip Rogers & Dutch Mantell
Loss replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Mantell vows the end of Brian Lee, as he'll be in the corner of Carl Styles later in the show. Rip Rogers states that he's the most fit man in wrestling, and we see some hilarious shots of fans screaming at him. Rogers announces that he's going to do squats for the entire hour of SMW TV.- 10 replies

[1992-03-07-USWA-TV] The Moondogs vs Jerry Lawler & Koko B Ware
Loss replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Highlights from Mid South Coliseum. Kamala is in the ring and accidentally gets hit by the Moondogs, which results in a babyface turn. Lawler finally shows up from wherever he was and helps the babyfaces fight back. -
Before the match, Sid mockingly reads a letter from a fan wanting to understand why Sid turned his back on Hulk Hogan and threatened to destroy Brutus Beefcake. He makes quick work of the future WCW referee. Sid puts a "Call 9-1-1" necklace on him, Harvey puts a Hulkamania doorag on his head, then he gets clotheslined off a stretcher.

[1992-03-07-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Ric Flair & Mr Perfect
Loss replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Gene Okerlund decides to get to the bottom of what Flair and Perfect say they know about Savage. Flair's sweater has to be seen to be believed. Flair pulls out the new WWF Magazine. Flair says Liz knows that not only is Flair the greatest wrestler alive, but he's also the greatest lover. They show pictures of Liz feeding Flair strawberries and Flair says "She was mine before she was yours". Flair says Liz is damaged goods and the only reason she is at Randy's side is because Flair dumped her! Pretty famous angle, and one that Flair is very obviously enjoying.- 10 replies

Really good match. Jumbo secures the win, but Taue gained a lot from this win himself, as he was put in a position to fight valiantly pretty often. Jumbo's selling at the finish rocked. If Doc/Gordy had a weakness as a team, it's that their matches sometimes ran together. So this was good, but I doubt I'll remember much about it five minutes from now.

[1992-03-04-AJPW-Excite Series] Stan Hansen vs Mitsuharu Misawa
Loss replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
Misawa's last failed shot at the title. Pretty fast, crazy start for a TC match. I understand that both guys work better with Kawada and Kobashi, but this is still a really good match, and the close calls rival those of just about any match you'll ever see. Misawa loses, but goes over strong enough that the point is made that he can win the belt. Hansen got lucky to just hit a lariat at the right moment. Misawa was the dominant one, and the win is just a thud out of nowhere. Really good match setting up a bigger match later in the year.- 18 replies

The entrances alone are outstanding. Anyway, this went on the yearbook because it was given ****3/4 in Steve Sims' old lucha newsletter. It's a pretty wild, all-over-the-place brawl that reminds me in some ways of the trios matches right after the Santo turn in '96. This is what I imagine War Games being like with these guys, only there is no cage. The rudos dominate long enough and convincingly enough that you really get the sense of trouble and danger. Cien Caras has become one of my favorite wrestlers courtesy of this and the '93 yearbook -- he just seems like a miserable fuck, and good for him. Konnan is laid out going into the third fall (which is really too bad), and Caras does his best to keep him that way by taking him to the arena floor and choking him out. Eventually, we do get a scattered technicos comeback, and it's a pretty great because they built the heat for so long. There is some great action in the closing minutes, with Konnan even being surprisingly not horrible. Not quite decent, but better than horrible. I wouldn't have minded some blood to accompany all the hate, but this is a solid MOTYC all the same. Love the announcer getting smothered in the Rayo/Ano brawl in the crowd. Chicana finally brings it home for the rudos with a left hook!

Last few minutes. They get some good kickouts, but ultimately, Bigelow and Vader win the IWGP tag titles after double-splashing Muto. Then Vader gives Muto a chokeslam to seal the deal.

[1992-03-01-NJPW-Big Fight Series] Masa Chono vs Shinya Hashimoto
Loss replied to Loss's topic in March 1992
On the slow side, but brutal with lots of great selling. Hashimoto gets his nose bloodied early on and he and Chono exchange some really hard shots. I've already noticed that seeing the natives against each other in New Japan isn't the same guarantee of a decent match like it was in 1993 or 1996, based on some earlier matches on this set. But this is a very good match. Hashimoto wins with a jumping DDT.- 11 replies

That I definitely agree with. Probably just a case of more people watching the WWF who voted. -
