  1. This is a little more juniors-ish than typical BattlARTS, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But it resembles some of the more mat-based matches like Otani-Samurai as much as it does BattlARTS. Mochizuki really looks good here, and Tanaka has a lot of natural charisma. I don't think this was at quite the level of my favorite stuff from this group so far this year, but I still thought it was fun to watch. The matwork was solid, but Tanaka's personality sold this.
  2. Vince is announced as the special referee for Austin-Undertaker. It's still fresh now, but we know eventually some of this stuff is going to be done to death. Once again, Vince's entrance is awesome, as he looks awfully proud of himself, has cleaned up and is flexing his muscles. Undertaker gets in Vince's face and ends up giving him a chokeslam. Kane saves Vince from a tombstone and the two of them brawl into the crowd. This was the first time anyone other than Austin ever put their hands on Vince. Patterson and Brisco come out to check on Vince when Austin's music starts up. The stooges eat a pair of stunners and Austin ties Vince in the ropes. He grabs a chair when Dude Love comes out. Austin sees him coming and eats a chairshot of his own. Great stuff again.
  3. Last few minutes. Not much heat for this, and the match isn't very good. DX is over, but that isn't translating to HHH as an individual yet. Chyna hits Rock with the European title after a referee distraction, but Rock still kicks out of HHH's pin attempt. Mark Henry attacks HHH when he goes outside the ring so Chyna retaliates by hitting him from behind with a chair. They end up brawling to a double countout. Not particularly good, but an interesting look at these two at this point in time. Faarooq attacks Rock as he leaves the ring, even giving him a piledriver at the entrance while HHH looks on and laughs.
  4. Vince narrates a hilariously sappy video of Pat Patterson. They show a horrible clip of him as an announcer to demonstrate his announcing prowess. I love this.
  5. HHH made me laugh when he said "Those are high-dollar goggles!" when Road Dogg throws them on the ground. Anyway, HHH is about to fly a plane for some secret mission. They end up spelling HHH vs The Rock Tonight On RAW in the air above the arena where Nitro is being held. The WWF is so much cooler than WCW.
  6. Vince and The Stooges are out still soaked with messy hair and pissed off. That entrance was spectacular. Vince accepts the condition of his release that someone stand at ringside to ensure that he calls the match down the middle. Vince says that's fine because there isn't one WWF superstar that intimidates him. According to Vince, Austin's fun ends tonight when he has to face the Undertaker in the main event. Remember when this match was fresh?
  7. Don Callis is out with Hank The Angry Drunken Dwarf and Crackhead Bob from the Howard Stern show. Callis blames fans for them being the way they are. I'm starting to wonder the point of this until Luna Vachon, Golga and Giant Silva come out and they are debuted as the Human Oddities. This worked much better as an undercard gimmick when they turned babyface, switched to the ICP theme and became more fun.
  8. Similar to the other ones, if not the exact same.
  9. Vince and the Stooges are accompanied by lots of security. Vince is becoming more and more over the top by the week and I love it. Vince promises the demise of Steve Austin on Sunday night, which brings Austin out. Austin insists that since Vince admits he assaulted Austin last week, he should be arrested. So cops handcuff Vince and he makes awesome facial expressions to sell it. Patterson and Brisco take exception and Austin gets them arrested for obstructing justice. Austin kicks Vince while he's handcuffed and pours beer all over him. I guess that's not assault? I don't think this is how arrests work in the real world, but this was a great crowd pleasing segment.
  10. Last few minutes. I've heard good things about Jeff Farmer in Japan - had he become really good yet at this point? Sting and Luger win the match and the Wolfpac guys come out to congratulate them. They make an offer to Sting, but we have a cliffhanger. I would like to think WCW wouldn't be that monumentally dumb, but ...
  11. It's Best of 7 time! I always thought this series was overrated, even before Benoit murdered his family. This was a good match, though, far better than I remembered, especially in the final few minutes. Benoit wins a match! Now that's a rarity.
  12. Mortis is officially repackaged as Kanyon. This was all wrong for him, mainly because of his voice. Mortis could have been a long-term, bankable gimmick.
  13. Jericho points out that he lost the cruiserweight title because of a diabolical conspiracy within WCW. He asks JJ Dillon to come out. It's hilarious how he insults Dillon until he shows up and then he completely changes his tone. Jericho points out that Dean Malenko was not one of the announced participants in the battle royal at Slamboree so therefore he was not entitled a championship match. Therefore, JJ Dillon should reverse the decision and return the belt to him. Jericho claims that he was at a psychological disadvantage, and Dillon tells him the decision stands unless Jericho can find some sort of precedent. Jericho is great here!
  14. The Giant calls Kevin Nash to come out and face him, with Brian Adams and Vincent in his corner. A "We Want Nash" chant starts and Nash comes to the ring, but not before calling all three of them Hogan's fluff boys. The numbers quickly overtake Nash until the rest of the Wolfpac - and Lex Luger - make the save. Fans see where this is going and start popping pretty loudly. Nash tosses Luger a Wolfpac shirt and Luger ponders it for a minute before finally putting it on. While this got over huge live, I think this was a big mistake. Luger was a WCW guy and now that the Wolfpac is a babyface group, absolutely nothing has changed except the t-shirt Luger wears. I don't like how casual Luger is about being in the ring with the NWO considering that he was the guy who led WCW against them while Sting was out.
  15. Brandon Baxter has changed his look a lot since I last saw him in 1996. They are wise enough to limit Stacy and Baxter being in the ring to mere seconds at a time. Tony Falk runs in to stop the count after Stacy delivers a low blow to Baxter and Jacqueline runs out and attacks him, along with some other people I don't recognize, Bill Dundee and Billy Joe Travis.
  16. Lawler basically calls Randy Hales a pervert for wanting to put Stacy Carter in the ring so he can see her panties again. Stacy says she definitely can take Brandon Baxter since he's more woman than man. Lawler claims the WWF is winning the ratings war against WCW because they have him and uses this to segue to how wrestling is all about ratings, and that's why Hales wants Stacy back in the ring. The music plays to cut Lawler off and go to commercial. I can't figure out if Lawler is supposed to be a babyface or a heel.
  17. Taz unveils the FTW belt for the first time. Taz calls Douglas out - Brooklyn vs Pittsburgh - but gets Bigelow instead. Bigelow takes exception to the new belt and tells Taz the only way he will get to Shane in the future is to go through him. Taz lays down the belt and wants to fight and referees fill the ring. One of them takes an incredible bump all the way into the fans before they are pulled apart. Good stuff.
  18. Not to mention that the WWF always wanted to put WCW out of business.
  19. Dave clarified his position on The Board:
  20. I thought this was a great match - the best FMW match of the year so far. Tanaka targets Hayabusa's leg in the early stages before Hayabusa does the same to Tanaka's arm and they start trading bombs. There's no rocket science there, but they executed that formula really well.
  21. Hogan rubs it in that Nash said people were going to desert him and he couldn't even keep Scott Hall on his side. He points out that people want to be on his side because where he goes, the money goes. Hall gets a big entrance before Bischoff says it's decision time for Sting - is he going to join the NWO or not? Did 1996-1997 never happen? This is even a question? It shows how little respect they have for their audience when they think people might buy that he's joining. Giant attacks Sting when Sting spits in his face until Kevin Nash shows up with a pipe and scares him away to close out the show.
  22. Sgt. Slaughter is revealed as the special referee for this match. Slaughter attacks Austin from behind and The Stooges run in immediately to work him over. Gerald Brisco is having waaay too much fun. Patterson hits Austin with a pair of brass knucks, but Austin makes a comeback on both guys. Patterson and Brisco both take a few bumps they have no business taking at their age, but they are so obviously having a blast so what the hell. Dude Love runs in to brawl with Austin. A fan runs in with an Austin mask but it turns out it was Vince, which gave the Dude an opening to beat up Austin. GREAT segment.
  23. I love that Jim Ross is able to simply explain why Jerry Lawler is getting a more favorable reaction than usual instead of being forced to ignore it. Lawler brings out a guy under a sheet who he claims is his security. The story is that Lawler promised Snow a meeting with Vince in exchange for protecting him.
  24. Steve Austin is now a guest host on MTV's Celebrity Death Match. I LOVED this show. I looked hard for the Austin vs Vince one, but couldn't find it.
  25. Another cool vignette with a sensibility that isn't very WWE.
