  1. Last few minutes. The Flock interferes liberally as usual. Looks to be a fun brawl. Kidman has been great as a ringside bumper on this show. Horace runs in and attacks DDP, giving Raven the win and U.S. title.
  2. Last few minutes. Hogan/Piper is so played. Giant throws a dropkick! Giant puts Piper on his shoulders to get the bat. They never made clear how to win this match, because Piper grabbed the bat and Hogan tossed it aside. Overbooked ending, with Hogan accidentally hitting Nash with the bat. Why did the ref have to be distracted for that? Disciple distracts Piper, leaving him prone to a Hogan pin. Post-match, Nash wants a piece of Hogan for hitting him. Hogan distracts Nash by telling him to powerbomb Giant then attacks Nash from behind with the bat. Then Giant chases Hogan away. This is a huge clusterfuck mess, but hey, Hogan gets all the heat at the end, so that's all that matters I guess.
  3. This was really fun, but I think it went a little too long. This had unreal heat and Saturn did a great job feeding Goldberg cool stuff to do. It was sloppy at times for sure but another really effective match in getting Goldberg over.
  4. This was fantastic. Carl Greco gets a chance to show off his outstanding mat skills, Ishikawa and Ikeda do their typical hard-hitting brutality and Otsuka is the guy who can do it all, going to the mat, laying in strikes, landing a tope to the floor and rolling out the giant swing yet again! I thought this was an absolutely great match with four guys that are quickly becoming my favorites. Poor sportsman Ikeda attacks Ishikawa after the match, I presume to set up their singles match in May. This is a throwback in many ways and it's also something more modern-feeling than just about anything in 1998.
  5. Dundee interrupts Lawler's personal appearance plug to get the match started. Oh no he didn't! The story here is that Dundee is taking this match seriously as a chance to prove himself again while Lawler is distracted and more focused on the celebratory atmosphere. Lawler shouts, "I wanna show you something Steve Austin taught me!" and hits a stunner to a big studio pop. This is a bit overbooked with two ref bumps. Austin Idol cracks Dundee with a chair at ringside and Dundee is counted out of the ring, giving Lawler the win. This was hyped as the "final confrontation", but we know there will be more matches between the two in the future. Fun match. Dundee vows revenge on Austin Idol after the commercial break and signs a contract to face Idol in the near future.
  6. Loss

    Current WWE

He's only scheduled at this point to do matches at NOC, the Rumble and Wrestlemania. It was also reported (by our own Bix) last week that while he's expected to go into WM as champ, that doesn't necessarily mean he will hold the championship from now until then. I wonder if they'll do some type of angle to vacate it or fire him for going too far or something like that.
  7. Lawler is here to party and Dundee is pissed off that he's not taking their match later in the show all that seriously. The Rock & Roll Express also send in a taped promo that they are happy to be coming back to Memphis.
  8. Cornette congratulates everyone on the birth of Power Pro and suggests that he might come to Memphis sometime.
  9. Memphis wrestling is back! Randy Hales is out with Dave Brown. Hales admits that he's a little bit emotional about the return of wrestling to Memphis. He thanks Dave Brown and Cory Maclin along with quite a few other people for helping make this happen, and I love how excited the studio crowd is that wrestling is back.
  10. Going to the Carnival final against Misawa is a really big platform for Akiyama. They do a very different match than they did in January, going all out from the opening bell. I like how Misawa is more offensive-minded when he's in a Carnival match than he is when he's defending his title. It's the difference between wrestling to win and wrestling to not lose. Akiyama goes after Misawa's leg right away, trying the same strategy that helped him go the distance with Kobashi a few days earlier. Akiyama's offense reminds me a lot of Muto with the dragon screw leg whips and figure four. Misawa gives Akiyama quite a bit in this match. I like how they worked the finishing stretch with Misawa just weathering the storm by taking all of Akiyama's best shots and finally mustering his extended comeback until the elbow brought the match home. Great final - not at the level of the classic finals from 1994-1996, but still a great match.
  11. I thought this was another almost great match, only a shade below the previous ARSION match in February. I think aspects of it were better, but so many Germans were thrown out that they didn't mean much after a while, even though they looked really cool. That flaw aside, they crafted something really exciting here with lots of matwork you definitely don't see everyday, and if there's such a thing as a matwork spotfest, this is definitely it. The pace was relentless, but not in the sometimes overbearing Toyota way, but more that they were just working really hard and doing something engaging. Okutsu continues to look good, and Futagami looks awesome if this match is any indication. Anyone who likes suplex-heavy fast-paced action with some top notch matwork will really like this match.
  12. The conclusion of a Jericho-Chavo match. The story is that Chavo is making a surprisingly good showing but Jericho ends up winning in the end. Eddy slapped Chavo's hand away twice when Chavo is about to reach the ropes, then covers his head like he's so embarrassed by his nephew. Prince Iaukea comes out and hits Jericho with the scale and they brawl out of sight. Back in the ring, Eddy browbeats Chavo again, but Chavo stands up for himself. Eddy flubs a line, but if Chavo beats Ultimo at Spring Stampede, that's great, but if he loses, things are going to get much worse for him.
  13. Interesting to watch. I haven't really watched very many shoots, so I'm always surprised at how much the worked RINGS style resembles shooting. This was fun to watch and it's unfortunate that they would put Tamura in such a position. Regardless of his talents as a shooter, he was probably the best worker in the world at this point. I wish wrestling promoters wouldn't play around with a sure thing like that.
  14. The Triple Threat hit the ring and attack Kronus, leaving Chris Chetti alone with Shane Douglas. The audio is horrible because ECW could never figure out that aspect. Douglas is giving him a tongue lashing until Taz's music starts. Taz is about to cut a promo on Douglas when Chetti interrupts him and tries to be voice of reason. He ends up taking a beating from Taz for it. Douglas ends up daring Taz to break his arm, knowing the consequences are that right after he does it, the other Triple Threat members will destroy him. Taz seems like he's about to walk away, but ends up snapping Shane's arm instead.
  15. Joey Styles is trying to sell the importance of the Sandman injury while various clips are shown of him. Then we see him carted out in an ambulance. Was this injury legit?
  16. The Bushwhackers in ECW is an interesting choice. It's all a setup for the Dudleys to attack Tommy Dreamer and Sandman from behind.
  17. Later in the show, Patterson and Brisco try to talk Vince into accepting the challenge. Shane (this early?) tries to talk him out of it. Finally, Vince is back out and reluctantly agrees to the match, because a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Jim Ross ends up saying he's going to do what he can to ensure that this match does not happen and leaves the broadcast booth. Later, we see that he went to try to convince Vince not to take the match. Vince tells him to go do his job. Next, Austin does a promo saying he's not surprised Vince took the challenge. Gerald Brisco tries to teach Vince some takedowns and it's hilarious. Kevin Kelly interviews Vince later to ask if he's afraid. Vince points out that he proved he wasn't afraid of the United States government. He's not afraid of Ted Turner and Time Warner. He's not afraid of the big bad wolf. And he's definitely not afraid of Steve Austin. Vince comes out doing a power walk and Shane tries to talk him out of it at the last minute to no avail. Vince starts shadow boxing in the ring. When the match starts, Vince slaps Austin and before the match starts, Vince reminds Austin that he said earlier he could beat him with one arm tied behind his back, so he wants Austin tied up. There are so many great things in the stalling to get the match started that I can't possibly describe them all. Finally, Dude Love shows up and everyone is confused. Dude Love is talking trash to Vince and Vince shoves him down. Dude goes to apply the mandible claw to Vince and turns the table on Austin and beats him up as the show goes off the air. This is all absolutely GLORIOUS. I'm so glad they reversed their fortunes with this show because it was absolutely glorious.
  18. Austin wants Vince to come out right now. He demands to know his opponent at the next PPV, but Vince says he hasn't made up his mind yet. Austin does a promo on Vince that ended up as the source of soundbytes for months and months. Austin finally gets around to challenging Vince to a match later in the show. Vince is great in this. Austin also points out that if Vince thinks he's going anywhere, he's wrong. His limo driver has been beat up and he has four flat tires. Vince has 30 minutes to give Austin an answer. So great.
  19. Lust In Space is a much better porn title than the last one.
  20. Last few minutes. Savage limps out as Sting locks in the scorpion deathlock and hits Sting with the cast on his arm while Liz distracts the ref. Sting gets a great kickout. The ring is covered in garbage. Nash does the powerbomb but Bret Hart shows up and pulls the ref out of the ring and starts brawling with Nash. Bret puts the sharpshooter on Nash but the NWO runs in. Bret isn't getting much reaction at this point, as they've cooled him off like ice. Nash doesn't even bother to go after Bret for what he did, just letting the B-team guys handle him. I appreciate the effort to put Bret in the top mix, but there's nothing here really.
  21. Quick video recapping their feud and setting up Spring Stampede.
  22. Tenay is working hard to come up with Goldberg factoids. I remember Dave saying he and Tenay actually worked together on a lot of that. Rocco Rock is a total pro here, going overboard bumping for Goldberg. He's not a very good worker, but the spirit is definitely there. I love how different all of these squashes are. That table spot got an enormous pop and was awesome. This was great.
  23. Bret Hart continues his months-long storyline that he is IN WCW. They had no idea what to do with this guy at all. He promises Sting that if he ever needs him, he'll be there, and he has so much respect for Sting and The Giant. It's unbelievable how they are using this guy.
  24. Nash and Savage isn't the direction I chose, but at least it was a direction. Now they're teasing problems between Nash and Savage just to further muddy things. Nash calls Sting out for a rematch because he thinks he would have been champion last week if not for Hogan running in. Sting shows up quickly and says let's make the match. Running the same main event for two consecutive weeks is a curious move when the WWF is gaining so much momentum. They were asleep at the wheel. Anyway, Nash vs Sting with the title on the line tonight and the powerbomb ban lifted. Sting is actually showing some real fire here which is nice, but something is still missing with him as the champ.
  25. Piper is officially useless. Age In The Cage just killed him. Hogan and Disciple jump him while Gene is interviewing him in the back.
