  1. When I was watching tons of WCW for the SC poll years back, the one thing that really struck me about Foley was how hard he worked in every fucking match. The tv feud with Dustin (three matches IIRC) is one good example of this, but it's pretty much universal. It's one of the reasons I continue to rate Foley relatively highly, even though in some respects the bloom is off the rose - he almost never phoned it in
  2. Portland was episodic wrestling. The idea that context wouldn't or shouldn't matter is bizarre. The matches can (and do) stand on their own, but context will hep them, which is hardly uncommon in wrestling
  3. They go up and cut promos between rounds.
  4. Christ almighty why didn't they book Bock v. Buddy instead of Zhukov just one of those times.
  5. How the fuck is Cena coming back off of that injury after two months?
  6. I am calling Matt D out here. Bock was his hero and now he is scanning through Buddy. He has watched plenty of both guys at this point. I realize not as many people have seen peak Rose, but these are two of the forgotten all time greats. So for those who have seen a decent sampling of each where do you stand?
  7. I doubt you will find a forum with more people who have watched lots of Brody recently than this one. I'll get into my own conclusions more later and make a comp. to Sayama
  8. Who compared him to BRooks?
  9. This was my thought as well.
  10. They have teased that "come to his senses moment" with him before. If that was the best finish they could do they need to close the company.
  11. How was it a turning point? Show still knocked out Bryan first. As I said before the last ppv the match never should have been booked. WWE has this horrible habit of booking these matches that never should happen (Ryback v. Punk HITC for example) and the result is always something horribly disappointing
  12. I actually think Martel is a better candidate than all three of those guys, though that's a different topic for a different thread
  13. I thought both guys looked outstanding in that match. That might have been Orton's best individual performance all year. For it to end like that...I mean there wasn't even a fucking finish. My biggest pet peeve in all of wrestling are matches that have no actual finish. Fuck
  14. Nothing like a great match with no finish at all to end a ppv. I don't give a fuck about how allegedly "genius!" this is in the "progression" of storyline, that's the sort of shit that makes me as a fan not give a fuck at all.
  15. Bryan and Ryback have had more than one match.
  16. It may have looked like dog shit this time but it has looked excellent against other opponents in the past who actually ate the kick. Having said that, Punk has a pretty good track record of playing underneath (Brock, Taker) whereas Ryback has been a letdown in most matches he has been in including the Henry Mania match. I honestly wish that Ryback was a face again so he could actually live up to the Goldberg chants. Ryback is currently the best week to week character in wrestling. The last thing I want is him turning face. The idea that Punk's high kick isn't pretty consistently one of his weaker spots is completely bizarre. I'm hardly anti-Punk, but it's one of the two quirks I consistently have to ignore even in otherwise good matches because I know it's coming and the vast majority of the time it's going to look like shit. Ryback isn't much in the ring but he had good matches more than once this year with Bryan and Cesaro. Normally I would say it's not fair to compare someone to those two because I think they are two of the best four wrestlers in the world this year, but if the idea is that Punk is having a really great year (I don't think he is, though he has had some excellent performances), it seems perfectly reasonable to note that.
  17. Will be interesting to see if this match feels like it is "sped up" at all. They are certainly working out a "feeling each other out" segment despite losing five minutes or so
  18. Brock isn't Ryback and Ryback isn't Brock. This match wasn't no dq and probably should have been. I don't think Ryback is any better than average in the ring, but I don't see how he was bad in that match at all. Also the big problem with anyone selling Punk's high kick is that it looks like complete dogshit and would be condemned by everyone if it was anyone other than CM Punk
  19. Ryback is bad my ass. I thought Punk was badly exposed in this. He's got a lot of the same offense as Bryan but it doesn't look nearly as good as Bryan's and it's jarring by comparison. I thought the match was pretty decent to be honest, but it didn't have much heat, the finish was stupid, and Heyman's mid-match mic spot was dumb
  20. Wyatts have already become boring as fuck. I actually thought that match was decent enough, better than one would think. As much as I hate Kofi, he's got a good hilo. Not sure why Bray Wyatt was doing elementary school field day spots, but bringing in equivalent of a "lucky tray day" gimmick for free merch at shows would be a good idea
  21. Just last night Exposer and I were talking about how Dustin is one of great tag workers of all time. Well tonight he made that match. The first portion was fine, not offensive, not great, just decent. Then Dustin tagged in and the match transformed into something outstanding almost immediately. I actually feel bad for Cody in a way because Dustin so clearly made the match and was far more over, but Cody got the big moment in the end and looked good. And Dusty got to be Dusty. Seriously Dustin is one of the best wrestlers in the World even as a part timer. With the exception of Cesaro and Bryan I don't think there is anyone else in the entire WWE better (unless you count Regal who is a part timer like him...and I'm not even sure Dustin isn't really the equal of those guys).
  22. Yeah AJ tried. Match wasn't really any good, but I've seen worse out of the Divas
  23. I will say this for Truth - the couple of times he's made tv in a match that got decent length this year he has worked hard. Match was nothing special, but both guys tried hard. Axel has a terrible finisher
  24. That match was fine but nothing special not that it was intended to be anything more than it was. I am stoked Cesaro is getting over, but I fear he is going to be used as an almost comedic character, which would be a huge waste of a tremendous talent.
  25. I think Del Rio is in the top ten discussion. That match was okay, but I hate RVD so much at this point that I really can't get into anything he does and the worst aspects of him jump out so much more. There was one spot in the corner during that match that was just fucking awful for example. I just don't like RVD's Carrot Top act
