Smoky Mountain Wrestling is a proud partner of the National Wrestling Alliance Smoky Mountain Power Hour Saturday 8th June 1985 Knoxville Civic Ballroom, Knoxville, TN Taped in front of a live studio audience at the Knoxville Civic Ballroom, Knoxville, TN Hosted by Charlie Platt and David Crockett Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Champion - Gama Singh Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions - The Orient Express (Saito & Akira) The opening credits roll and we pan to Charlie Platt and David Crockett at the announcer’s desk, before they get to even welcome the fans Ken Lucas, minus the Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Title, storms out to the desk, Ron Starr you crossed the line last Monday night, after our series I thought these days were behind you, I was wrong, you cost me the one thing I worked so hard for, and that I cannot forgive, but this has to end, so I’m challenging you too a loser leaves town match this Monday night, Smoky Mountain Wrestling isn’t big enough for the both of us and on Monday I get rid of you. Lucas makes his way to the ring while Platt and Crockett welcome the fans to this week’s show. Lucas’s opponent this week is a Gene Ligon, the bell rings and Lucas steam rolls Ligon with devastating blows, after about a minute, Lucas slaps on the Sleeper Hold and Ligon passes out. We go back to David Crockett and Charlie Platt, Crockett comments on how determined Ken Lucas looked and how desperate he is to get his hands-on Ron Starr by putting up his job in Smoky Mountain Wrestling to end this feud. === Commercial === We return with Charlie Platt running through the results from this past Monday, where we crowned new tag team champions in Ron Wright’s Orient Express when Boomer Lynch got involved in their title match with Ricky Vaughan and Brian Adias, The Rock N Roll Express defeated the Rock N Roll RPM’s in the second match in their best of 7 series to go 1 apiece and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and Abdullah The Butcher went to a double disqualification. At this point Hugo Savinovich comes to the announcer’s desk puffing on a Cuban cigar, Savinovich tells Crockett and Platt that he won’t take up much of their time, he goes on to say that Abdullah The Butchers job is almost done here and on Monday night he will finish what he started, and put ‘The King’ out of commission. At this point Jerry Lawler strolls out to confront Savinovich, Lawler says its great how Abdullah hides behind this cockroach of a man in Savinovich, Hugo just laughs off this comment and tells Lawler that Abdullah doesn’t need to hide behind anyone and he will find out on Monday night what damage he can really do. Savinovich goes to take another puff of his cigar when Lawler grabs his arm, even when I get done with Abdullah this Monday night, I’m still not finished with you after you put this lit cigar into my face 2 weeks ago, so when I’m done with Abdullah then I’m coming after you, Lawler then grabs the cigar and then drops it to the floor and stubs it out and walks off. When then go to the ring wear we have Josh Stroud and Larry Hamilton in the ring ready to face off with the new Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions The Orient Express with Ron Wright. The match goes for about 5 minutes when Saito hits a german suplex on Hamilton and covers him for the 3 count. === Commercial === Following the commercial we are joined by The Heartbreaker, Tony Falk says that Jimmy Del Ray is holding his own in the Junior Title tournament, things haven’t been go so well for him, so today on TV he’s going to win his first match against Tim Horner and go on and win the title. Charlie Platt asks why he has brought the other two members of the Heartbreakers to the ring with him this week, Falk says as Del Ray is going to win his block this is merely a scouting mission, and Steven Dunn is his corner boy, Falk comments that corner boys are all the rage in Japan, but Platt wouldn’t know anything about that as he’s never left Knoxville. Falk makes his way to the ring where Tim Horner is already there. Falk gets into the ring and stretches off, the bell rings and Falk runs straight toward Horner, when Horner hits him with a dropkick and covers him for the 3 count and the win in 6 seconds. Falk is stunned, he can’t believe what happened, Jimmy Del Ray and Steven Dunn jump into the ring to get a hold of Horner, but Horner is on his toes and out of the ring. Del Ray and Dunn check on Falk who is still out on the mat. A graphic is brought up on screen and this week’s results. Tuesday – Recreation Centre in Johnston City, TN Block A – Owen Hart defeats Ken Timbs/Fishman defeats Marty Jones Block B – David Taylor defeats Tim Horner/Scorpio and Enquire Vera go to a draw Wednesday – East High School in Morristown, TN Block A – Jimmy Del Ray defeats Pat Rose/Ken Timbs defeats Marty Jones Block B – Dean Malenko defeats Enquire Vera/David Taylor and Dean Malenko go to a time limit draw. Thursday – Raleigh County Armory, Beckley, WV Block A – Marty Jones defeat Owen Hart/Fishman defeats Pat Rose Block B – Tim Horner defeats Enquire Vera/Scorpio defeats David Taylor === Commercial === Following the commercial we return with the new Smoky Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Gama Singh who is with his insurance policy Boomer Lynch and the ever disheartened Don Kernodle. Gama says that he should be out here celebrating his title win but because of the actions of Don Kernodle, he can’t. He says he has had just about enough of Kernodle, so this Monday he’s being forced into punishing him, if Kernodle wants his freedom so much he can fight for it. Kernodle looks happy with this, and asks what it is? Gama laughs and tells Kernodle look so happy, if he wants his freedom he’s going to have to fight both himself and Boomer Lynch in a 2-on-1 handicap match and if he can win, he is free, if he can’t then he has to toe the line. Kernodle walks towards Singh and tells him he’s been waiting for this opportunity and he’s going to take it, and walks off. Gama call’s him back, not so fast, you still need to be punished for this Monday actions, Gama Singh nods at Boomer, who blind sides Kernodle and beats him down. Gama then grabs a hold of Kernodle and locks him into the camel clutch, shouting ‘you work for me Kernodle don’t you ever forget that’. Gama walks off as Boomer picks up the motionless Don Kernodle and carries him to the back. === Commercial === We return with today’s main event, a special 6 man tag match, on one side we have The Rock N Roll RPM’s with Jimmy Del Ray facing off with The Rock N Roll Express with Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler. The match goes for about 10 minutes when the two Rock N Roll teams fight to the back leaving Lawler and Del Ray in the ring together. Jerry Lawler looks like he’s about to finish off Jimmy Del Ray when Hugo Savinovich comes out distracts the referee, allowing Steven Dunn and Tony Falk to attack Lawler from behind. Jimmy Del Ray see’s Lawler on the mat and covers him, Savinovich stops his distraction and the referee turns and makes the 3 count, giving Jimmy Del Ray a massive upset victory over Jerry Lawler. The King chases Savinovich to back, as Jimmy Del Ray celebrates what is clearly his biggest victory. We go to Charlie Platt and David Crockett who run this Mondays card when Ron Starr walks out to the announcers table, if Ken Lucas wants a match, he can have it. Let me make one thing very clear, I did what I did because back on the 8th of April when you cost me my Smoky Mountain title, so if Lucas wants a match, then I don’t want it just leaving Smoky Mountain Wrestling, I want Lucas to put his career on the line. Lucas comes storming out, you want me to put my career on the line you’ve got it, but yours is on the line too, Starr replies with saying that if he can’t retire Lucas on Monday then it’s not worth living let alone wrestling. The show ends with Ron Starr and Ken Lucas face to face. === Show Ends ===

In our second match, a Block B match, Scorpio (2 PTS) defeats Dean Malenko (0 PTS) in 8 minutes when Scorpio hits a leg drop from the top rope. - 3. The Rock N Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) defeat The Rock N Roll RPM's (Mike Davis and Tommy Lane) in a Bunkhouse Brawl match in 23 minutes. Both Gibson and Morton came out with their head bandaged from the attack on Saturday morning, Lane and Davis just targeted them straight away. The match went all around the arena and was an all out brawl. The end came when Davis and Lane both charged at The Express when ringside seats only for Gibson and Morton to hit dropkicks to each of them knocking them out. - 5. Gama Singh defeats Ken Lucas for the Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Title in 17 minutes. Much like last week the match was heat fueled match, the end came when the referee was accidentally knocked to the outside. Gama Singh then asked Don Kernodle to pass him the ring bell, Kernodle refuses, Gama Singh then jumped to the outside and started screaming at Kernodle to pass him the bell, Kernodle clearly hearing enough, smashes Singh with a big right hand and rolls him back into the ring, Kernodle then goes to get the referee back to his feet. Back in the ring Ken Lucas picks up the stunned Singh and slaps on the sleeper. All of a sudden and man in hooded jumper jumps into the ring and confronts Ken Lucas, he removes his hood and its 'ROTTEN' RON STARR, he's returned. Starr hits a low kick to Lucas followed by a piledriver, he then pulls Singh onto Lucas and rolls out of the ring. On the other side unbeknown to Kernodle, he rolls the referee back into the ring and counts the 3 for Gama to regain the title. Ron Starr rolls back into the ring and just stands looking over Lucas. Kernodle is clueless to what happened and so is the referee.

Smoky Mountain Wrestling is a proud partner of the National Wrestling Alliance Smoky Mountain Power Hour Saturday 1st June 1985 Knoxville Civic Ballroom, Knoxville, TN Taped in front of a live studio audience at the Knoxville Civic Ballroom, Knoxville, TN Hosted by Charlie Platt and David Crockett Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Champion - Ken Lucas Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions - Ricky Vaughan & Brian Adias Charlie Platt and David Crockett welcome the fans to another week of exciting wrestling action on the Power Hour. Charlie Platt starts off by announcing we have a brand new Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Champion in Ken Lucas. Lucas walks out with his belt and thanks the fans for all their support in making his way to the title, he says it’s been a long few months with all his matches with Ron Starr and Gama Singh but has finally paid off this past Monday. Gama Singh comes storming out with Don Kernodle and Boomer Lynch in toe. Gama tells Lucas that he was lucky this week and that this Monday he’s taking the title back. Lucas says he’s looking forward to it, but he’s come over too much in the last few months to throw it away now and he returns to the changing room. Don Kernodle goes to walk off and Boomer Lynch stands in his way, Gama tells Kernodle he isn’t quite done, Singh says that he hasn’t been too impressed with Kernodle efforts towards the cause as of late and for that reason this Monday, Kernodle will accompany Singh on Monday night as his corner person, as he clearly is useless as a wrestler, but as he’s got a contract then he will just move him to corner person, Kernodle butts in and tells Singh if it wasn’t for losing that match he would, Gama jumps in quickly before Kernodle can continue, get to the back before you say something your regret. === Commercial === Charlie Platt welcomes the fans back, he says that later in the show they will have a phone call interview with Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler to discuss how he is and what’s next for him and more importantly what’s next for Hugo Savinovich and Abdullah the Butcher. At this point The Heartbreakers, Tony Falk, Jimmy Del Ray and Steven Dunn come to the announcer table. Falk says both him and Del Ray are in the Junior International Title Tournament so they are putting their tag title focus to one side to conquer the junior title. Charlie Platt says that tonight there will be a big opening ceremony tonight in Kingsport at the Civic Auditorium where there will be 6 Junior matches to kick off the tournament. The Heartbreakers make their way to the ring to face off with the junior trio of Owen Hart, Scorpio and Tim Horner, the match is action packed and goes for about 8 minutes when Tim Horner pins Steven Dunn with a German Suplex into the pin for the victory for his team. === Commercial === Next up we have the team of The Masked Avengers (Gene Ligon and Mike Jackson under mask’s) who face off with The Rock N Roll Express, Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson. This match doesn’t last long and the Express have full control and get the win after 3 minutes of action with a double drop kick to Avenger #1. As they go to leave they are jumped by the Rock n Roll RPM’s, Tommy Lane and Mike Davis with baseball bats, in this vicious attack, the RPM’s do a real number on Morton and Gibson, leaving them bloody on the studio floor. === Commercial === We return with the janitors mopping up the blood left by the Rock N Roll Express after the jump attack from the RPM’s. Crockett and Platt discuss how disgusted they are with the jump attack they just witnessed, and during the break it was announced via the office of Les Thatcher that the 2nd match in the best of seven’s series will be a Bunkhouse Brawl Match, where anything goes. Following this announcement, we go to the ring with Josh Stroud ready for action, his opponent this week is Boomer Lynch who is joined by Gama Singh, the match goes for 2 minutes when Lynch gets the win after a running splash to the corner, in a dominate display. === Commercial === Following the commercial we are back with today’s main event, in a match for a tag team title match this Monday night, the Orient Express, Saito and Akira with Ron Wright defeat the Rich Cousins, Johnny and Davey in 13 minutes when Ron Wright tripped with Johnny Rich and walked right into a thrust kick from Akira followed by the pinful for the victory. The Orient Express continue to beat down the Rich Cousins following the bell, until the Tag Team Champions Brian Adias and Ricky Vaughan run down and chases off the Orient Express. The tag champs check on the Rich’s when we go back to Charlie Platt and David Crockett, who are joined by Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler on the telephone. Jerry Lawler says he is doing well and this Monday he will get revenge over Abdullah The Butcher, Hugo Savinovich, smoking a cigar walks out to the announcers table, Platt tells Lawler that Savinovich has joined them, Lawler says that when he’s done with Abdullah he’s coming for Savinovich. === Show Ends === Live Event from Kingsport, TN at The Civic Auditorium A Special Opening Ceremony for the NWA Junior International Title with all the wrestlers before the opening match. 1. Boon replied to GeneJackson95's topic in Promotions
Really enjoyed your build of the Nightmares to the tag titles, your really have put them across as the "lovable rouges", who are faces that are willing to bend the rules to win. -
I know what it is, so honesty don't worry I'll pass up on it, I greatly appreciate the offer. It's clearly not something that cant be look passed because I left and didn't contact. And this is no way me seeking attention or trying to cause a stir, I thought I was in a better position to make a suggestion, clearly not.
-
Just to put end to this, it was merely a suggestion to help two new writers out and keep them going. I don't want there to be a reluctantancy to people giving wrestlers up. In the same breathe I don't want to be in a draft with a load of guys that wouldn't better my roster and then be told I'm ungrateful etc. So best not to over this again...
-
Just curious: What has happened between March 20th and now that you are no longer content with "(your) usual small roster"? I'm not in any way opposed to sending talent your way or making guys available in a supplemental draft. I'm quite happy to help out how I can... but I do wonder why your attitude about the roster has apparently changed. It's not about numbers really more just a bit of quality to get excited about booking, I'd struggle to have 35-40 odd wrestlers and make them mean something. That makes sense. More guys will become available with the Fresh Faces drafts and so on... but I could see wanting to get some more going sooner rather than later. It's not much, but: I'm always up for a talent exchange. That Akira for Hickerson swap seems to be working well for both guys. Feel free to pm me any time if there's anyone on my roster you wanna use. It does and everyone has been great with loans and trades. It again was merely a suggestion to add some quality names, I'm booking Gama Singh as my top heel, Gama Singh has been rarely since the start of this game, but there's only so much you can do with him.
-
In fact the conversation was out of your roster I was only really interested in the Calargy guys and anyone you offered up would be wrestlers I'd probably only use to trade off and didn't want to leave a bad taste. I honestly don't want cause any fiction, so will pass on the draft, and keep going as I am.

It's not about numbers really more just a bit of quality to get excited about booking, I'd struggle to have 35-40 odd wrestlers and make them mean something. Again was a suggestion. I'll pass and carry on as I was. Was merely making a suggestion. And too Genes point, you have help out massively. It wasn't a point of hoarding loads of guys and then just quitting.
-
You have indeed Kevin, but they just haven't been what I wanted. I'm grateful for everyone's help, I've had loads of it. It was merely a suggestion to add some quality. I'm speaking for myself, Dex may have other opinions. But twice I've made the suggestion and twice been shut down and told I'm distruptive...
-
What was passive aggressive about it this time? It was a suggestion. You have blown a simple comment out of the water and thrown a strop, again. Seriously I'm happy with what I've got, I'd rather not rock the LowBlow boat...
-
Why are you so against it? I'll pass on it if it's an issue to you.
-
I mean from others rosters. So you guys protect X amount of wrestlers and me and Dex get to select 5 or so names to add some quality...
-
I do think maybe we should look into a "protected" "unprotected" list to help myself and Dex grow our rosters with some quality even if it just involves selecting 3 to 5 guys to help add some quality. I know it won't be a popular message, and be shot down, but wouldn't see the harm in allowing us select maybe 3 to 5 guys from across the game to help us out. I'll place my tin hat on now and duck...
-
I don't think there is any harm in it, whether people see value in them. I told Dex to look at some results for WWC in 1985 as there will be some guys missing like Barrabas, The Invaders and Miguel Perez Jr...
-
Was so close to pushing the button on picking up Carlos Colon and Hercules Ayala this afternoon, welcome back Dexstar Glad I pulled the trigger ... the rowdy PR crowds might not have been able to handle a WWC without Carlos. I'll be posting full roster from the FA pool later today! Was just thinking of things to do with Hugo Savinovich when I stop using Lawler at the end of the month, and those two were an idea

Smoky Mountain Wrestling is a proud partner of the National Wrestling Alliance Smoky Mountain Power Hour Saturday 25th May 1985 Knoxville Civic Ballroom, Knoxville, TN Taped in front of a live studio audience at the Knoxville Civic Ballroom, Knoxville, TN Hosted by Charlie Platt and David Crockett Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Champion - Gama Singh Smoky Mountain Tag Team Champions - Ricky Vaughan & Don Kernodle The opening credits roll, and is followed by Charlie Platt and David Crockett being joined by Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, Lawler says he thought all his troubles were behind him when he and the Memphis Vice defeated the Infernos, only for Hugo Savinovich and Abdullah The Butcher to ruin the moment for him. He explains that the Memphis Vice have moved on and this is a battle for himself. From the other side of the studio, Hugo Savinovich walks out smoking a cigar, Savinovich says that he was contacted by a person who would like to remind anonymous, and that person ask if they could relive Smoky Mountain Wrestling of ‘The King’. Lawler asks who this coward is who would send a Butcher after him, Savinovich butts in and says thats the least of his worries, because this Monday his Butcher will collect the bounty on his head, Hugo Savinovich then just strolls off puffing on his cigar. Lawler tells Platt and Crockett he’s going to deal with Abdullah and Savinovich this Monday night in Knoxville. === Commercial === After a short break, we are joined by a new trio here in Smoky Mountain Wrestling, the Heartbreakers, ‘Toy Boy’ Tony Falk, ‘Sexy’ Steven Dunn and new to the group, ‘Gigolo’ Jimmy Del Ray. Falk says it didn’t go quite to plan last week, and that’s why they needed to shake it up a little and they have added the Gigolo to the group, so this week, Steven Dunn and Jimmy Del Ray will have their chance to win a tag team title match if they can beat their mystery opponents Les Thatcher has sorted for them. Dunn and Del Ray make their way to the ring as Tony Falk joins Platt and Crockett for commentary, Charlie Platt introduces the new team to the area, The Latin Lovers, Javier Cruz and Vinnie Valentino. The Lovers make their way out to the ring, getting kisses and hugs from the young ladies in the crowd, as they slide into the ring, Dunn and Del Ray jump the Latin Lovers and the bell rings. Del Ray is a very athletic lightweight wrestler who puts in an impressive performance but it isn’t enough for his team, when the Lovers pick up the win at 7 minutes when Javier Cruz lifts Steven Dunn into a spinebuster position when Valentino comes of the ropes with a running clothesline, and covers him for the 3 count. As soon as the bell rings Tony Falk jumps into the ring and we have a 3 on 2 beat down, the new trio of The Heartbreakers make their to the back following the beat down. === Commercial === We return with David Crockett standing at a table with a new championship belt on it, ladies and gentlemen, one of the key focuses of the NWA and Smoky Mountain Wrestling is to bring you the best professional wrestling across all divisions of wrestling and with that being said the National Wrestling Alliance and Smoky Mountain Wrestling would like to announce a 12 man round robin tournament for the new NWA International Junior Heavyweight Title. This division will be limited to wrestlers under the 220-pound mark. As you can see from the graphic on the screen, it will be a round robin tournament, 12 men split into 2 groups, with the top two of each group moving into a playoff, and the winners facing off for the title. For every win a wrestler will receive 2 points and for a draw you receive 1 point, each match will have a 15-minute time limit. We are now shown another graphic with the names of Block A and Block B. Block A ‘Gigolo’ Jimmy Del Ray – USA Marty Jones – United Kingdom – Representing Dale Martin Promotions Owen Hart – Canada – Representing Jim Crockett Promotions Pat Rose – USA Fishman – Mexico – Representing Universal Wrestling Association Ken Timbs - USA Block B Tim Horner – USA Dean Malenko – USA – Representing Jim Crockett Promotions 2 Cold Scorpio – USA Tony Falk – USA David Taylor – United Kingdom – Representing Joint Promotions Enrique Vera – Mexico – Representing Universal Wrestling Association These block matches will begin within a few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for dates in your local town. But for today we will have a junior’s showcase match. As two teams make their way to the ring, on one side we have Tim Horner, Marty Jones, 2 Cold Scorpio and Ken Timbs facing off with Fishman, David Taylor, Enrique Vera and Pat Rose. The match sees a lot of fast paced action with a mixture of high flying and technical wrestling, the end comes when there is some miscommunication between David Taylor and Pat Rose and Taylor strikes Rose with a stiff right hand and walks off allowing Tim Horner to roll Pat Rose up for the win at 9 minutes. Crockett comments on how excited he is too see the tournament unfold. === Commercial === Following the commercial we have Josh Stroud and Larry Hamilton facing off with The Rock N Roll RPMs, Mike Davis and Tommy Lane, the match goes for about 6 minutes, with Lane and Davis clearly outclassing the younger team of Stroud and Hamilton, and get the win following a double drop kick. Clearly mocking the Rock N Roll Express following the bell, Lane and Davis continue their beat down of the helpless Hamilton and Stroud, until Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson run out and chase off the RPMs. Morton and Gibson join Platt and Crockett, they tell the announcers that they have just signed a contract for a Best of 7 Series with the RPMs where there will be 2 singles matches and the rest will be tag matches and the winner of the series will be granted a Tag Team Title match and the loser will not receive any title matches in wrestling for 6 months and it starts this Monday in Knoxville. === Commercial === Before today’s main event, Smoky Mountain Heavyweight Champion Gama Singh and the former Tag Team Champions Don Kernodle and Boomer Lynch come to the announcer’s desk, Gama says that he won’t stand for dissention within his stable, so he’s willing to overlook this past Mondays tension and move onto this Monday with them winning back the tag team titles. Charlie Platt asks Gama his thoughts around his win this past Monday against Ken Lucas? Gama says that Ken Lucas cheated and there isn’t anything else to add, Platt says if Lucas can get the win in today’s main event then he will receive another heavyweight title match, Gama just drops in and says, well that won’t be happening. Today’s main event will see Don Kernodle facing off with Ken Lucas. Lucas makes his way to the ring, he points at Gama and his title and says he coming for it on Monday. As the bell rings, Gama and Boomer Lynch gather around the ring, only for the new Tag Team champions Brian Adias and Ricky Vaughan come out to make sure Singh and Lynch don’t get involved. The match goes for about 12 minutes when Lucas slaps on a Sleeper Hold, Kernodle looks like he’s going down when Gama Singh and Boomer Lynch jump up on the apron only for Ricky Vaughan and Brian Adias pull them off to make sure they don’t get involved, Kernodle passes out and the referee calls for the bell, Ken Lucas gets another shot at Gama Singh this Monday night. Lucas celebrates with Ricky Vaughan and Brian Adias as Gama Singh and Boomer Lynch check on Don Kernodle. === Show Ends ===

Tombstoning midgets was a little advance for 1983 Portland in hindsight...lol. Well, this is some fun reading. Enjoying everyone except Ricky Vaughn, but that has nothing to do with your writing. lol Knoxville is looking to be in good hands. Thanks for the feedback. Would you not say Vaughan had the look for a small territory if no the talent?
