Brock also lost to Kurt Angle. By submission, in fact.
-
Actually, the height of petty is Vince in his Congressional testimony saying that a piece by Frank Deford about deaths in wrestling was due to Deford holding a grudge over Vince having stolen his shoes at a party 16 years previous.
-
I suppose you could argue that they couldn't do a long-term build because the writers would have screwed it up. But it's difficult to imagine them coming up with anything worse than what actually happened.
-
I have the opposite view. A submission master is much more credible against a larger opponent than an acrobat.
-
I don't see how Bryan vs. Lesnar is less plausible than Rey Mysterio vs. every single heavyweight. EDIT: Bryan is being pushed as a legit asskicker and submission master, so there's not that much of a disparity between the two.

That's great. Think about it. Whenever we all read or see some shoot interview with some legend or old timer and they relate a story like that, it's always a reaction of "That's so awesome! Getting heat! Fuck Yeah!" Why should it be different now? /doesn't know the difference between good heat and bad heat -
The Extreme Rules buyrate isn't about Brock's drawing ability or lack thereof. For the B-shows, nothing is a draw. If they had built up Cena/Lesnar for Summerslam, it might have meant something. But so much for that.

Better In-Ring Performer - Hogan or Cena?
NintendoLogic replied to Sean Liska's topic in The Microscope
I think Cena's first year in the WWE is crucial toward understanding his overall mindset. He was set to be future endeavored until Stephanie discovered that he could rap. Then he worked a white rapper gimmick despite a lot of people being against it because they thought he had the potential to be a big money player and the gimmick would permanently brand him as a comedy midcarder. I think the overall lesson he drew is that going along to get along is the way to go. -
Finally watched both Punk/Bryan and Richards/Elgin. I wouldn't consider the latter a MOTYC, but I did find it shockingly tolerable. I expected a ton of Wrestler A hits Wrestler B with murderdeathkill move, Wrestler B pops up and goes about his business. There was way too much kicking out of big moves, but they did a respectable job of selling the impact and overall fatigue. Punk/Bryan was really good but not quite a MOTY. The finishing stretch was great, but it took a bit too long to get into high gear. And Bryan's selling of the leg was pretty spotty. I'd still place it in the top 5, which at this point consists of Sheamus/Bryan, Cena/Lesnar, Punk/Henry, Okada/Naito, and Punk/Bryan. I've only seen Panther/Casas in clipped form, so there's a chance it could move up when I see the complete version.

Good thing they got their one big buyrate from Brock before he had a chance to flake.

Better In-Ring Performer - Hogan or Cena?
NintendoLogic replied to Sean Liska's topic in The Microscope
This is a pretty bad analogy. Steamboat was in the WWF for less than three years, so of course that's not a fair comparison. And Hogan didn't just wrestle in 80s WWF. He also worked in the AWA, New Japan, and WCW, places that weren't exactly hostile to workrate. He had matches against the likes of Nick Bockwinkel, Randy Savage, Stan Hansen, Ric Flair, and Vader. The argument that Hogan didn't have the opportunities to show that he could go in the ring simply isn't credible. -
There was a tag match a while back where Yoshi Tatsu took a really dangerous bump on a Doomsday Device/powerbomb combination move from Titus O'Neil and Darren Young. Goldust was the one who came up with the spot, so he got the ax.

Took it as a Beth Phoenix deal. Read her Twitter the past nine months and you will see what I mean. Can you summarize it so I don't have to read nine months of someone's Twitter? -
So were the one-on-one matchups announced beforehand or did they just tag in whoever when their five minutes were up?

The WTF!?! Have they lost their minds?! thread
NintendoLogic replied to Mr Wrestling X's topic in Pro Wrestling
It wasn't a botch. The line about Show being rehired on Saturday actually was in the script. The explanation from Cole came after people went nuts on Twitter. -
See, I was the exact opposite of that. When I played the old WWF Wrestlemania NES game with my cousin, he always picked Hulk Hogan, which meant that I couldn't. As a result, I tended to latch on to the most Hoganesque wrestlers who weren't actually Hogan. In WWF Wrestlemania, that was Randy Savage. And in WWF WrestleFest, that was the Ultimate Warrior.

I'm going to go ahead and say that if 6/9/95 doesn't click for you, then 90s All Japan probably isn't for you. Which is fine. There's no law that says you have to like everything.

Brodus is a quasi-Diva at this point with his current piss break/bring the crowd down before a big match role. And the whole dancing with kids thing is pretty much a kiss of death. Has anyone other than Junkyard Dog ever gotten over with that?

The Punk/Jericho matches were generally regarded as pretty good, but I don't think too many people considered them MOTYCs. And tons of people crapped all over the CM Drunk storyline, especially the field sobriety test. -
[1993-01-09-WWF-Boston, MA] Ric Flair vs Bret Hart (60-Minute Iron Man)
NintendoLogic replied to Loss's topic in January 1993
I'm not endorsing it, that's just how it is. Hour-long matches tend to have a lot of filler, and the left arm is a convenient target. Since most people don't use it much, you can work it over without really inhibiting your opponent's offense or forcing him to no-sell. I tend to avoid those types of matches for that reason. -

Arm work that doesn't go anywhere and doesn't lead to anything is the rule rather than the exception in long NWA-style title matches. It's to the point where once someone starts working a hammerlock, I zone out or fast forward. -
For me, Ric Flair going to the Hard Rock Cafe is almost as damaging to his image as him dipping during his shoot interview. What kind of jet-flying limousine-riding playboy parties it up at a chain restaurant?
-
The WWE probably thinks that just having the belt around his waist is enough, but that's ass-backwards. Belts don't get wrestlers over, wrestlers get belts over. Giving Punk a long title reign while Cena acts like the belt isn't worthy of his attention doesn't elevate Punk, it devalues the championship.

There's an article on Junior Seau in the current issue of SI. I found the following passage interesting: LINEBACKER'S COURT Not only do they both have serious issues with concussions, pro football and pro wrestling both have the same idiotic jock/frat culture.
