[1993-05-22-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Jesse Ventura & Sylvester Stallone
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Think I saw about 20 minutes of Cliffhanger. I'm surprised the whole cast of The Expendables hasn't shown up on TV yet to run off the heels.- 8 replies

[1993-05-22-WCW-Saturday Night] Slamboree Control Center
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Bischoff runs down the card. Bulldog faces Vader for the WCW Title. I don’t remember Smith making an appearance on yearbook so far. Not a bad card on paper. More Flair for the Gold though. Solie does a bio on Lou Thesz and we get a clip of Lou versus Inoki in Japan. Video packages at this time just weren’t going to do guys justice with the lack of footage.- 7 replies

Not sure why everyone has their shirts off. Maybe the AC is broken. Bob has resigned as commissioner of SMW so he can get back in the ring. The new and improved Heavenly Bodies as Del Ray replaces Lane on the team. Del Ray is quite in love with himself.

Jennifer is going to get the scoop on all the wrestlers on what they do outside the ring. This could be bad.

The brief clips from Jerry Lawler show and it is miles better than Flair’s show. Lawler mentions the passing away of USWA security member/bodyguard Ernest. Nice of them to pay tribute to him.

Laughable finish with Felino having an octopus stretch on his Ramirez but his own corner man Casas throwing in the towel. The referee was too easily convinced by Casas on that one. Finish was a bit too abrupt.

[1993-05-21-AJPW-Super Power Series] Mitsuharu Misawa vs Stan Hansen
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
It's a match up for whatever reason doesn't produce as great matches as these guys facing off with others. Though this would have to be the best of what I've seen between the two against one another. Loved the announcer trying to call the match and fight with Hansen over the TV monitor. Hansen was just mangling Misawa’s arm.- 18 replies

Revisiting Williams and Gordy throughout these yearbooks hasn't been too much fun. I do like that AJPW put the Tag Titles almost immediately on the hot new tag team of Kawada and Taue.

More serious Funk explaining the Texas chain match with the four corner touching. He’s expecting a bloody affair and mentions he wants to be the King of Philly.

[1993-05-17-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels vs Marty Jannetty
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
This episode will be part of the Best 20 Raw shows DVD set coming out. I wasn't looking at this one as an upset but the announcers were talking up that angle on commentary of what if Jannetty won. Shawn was working mini feuds with Duggan, revisits his long term feud with Jannetty and still also battling it out with Perfect. Reminds me of DiBiase with multiple things going on. Good match though I question why Perfect would be helping Jannetty with the title on the line. Nice towel toss by Perfect in Michaels face.- 17 replies

Kid hit only one move during whole match and that was all he needed. I wonder if there are any other matches (no finger poke garbage) where it took just one move to win. Kid goes nuts after pulling off the huge upset.

[1993-05-15-WCW-Saturday Night] Flair for the Gold: Hollywood Blonds
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Cracking up at Fifi using the feather duster near Missy’s privates. Arn has become Ed McMahon. Blonds take loads of shots as Flair and Arn being too old. Flair gets all angry and starts yelling that this is his show. A show that continues to make him look like a joke. Yes, production is awful.- 7 replies

[1993-05-15-WCW-Worldwide] Rick Rude vs Dustin Rhodes
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
Rude got mixed up in a back body drop or flap jack and almost landed on his head. Disputed finish with two referees being involved. Rude gets awarded title but original referee looked to be disqualifying him for over the top rope infraction.- 10 replies

Feel like people are looking at this one from different angles. You really can't compare the feelings you have for entertainment/TV program for people in your real life. That didn't seem to be the intent of the question by OJ either. I definitely cared more about my guys winning when I watched as a kid/teenager. Wins and loses should still matter as should the importance of titles. The idea that they don't matter anymore makes me wonder why we even watch. Too much even booking of trading wins going on these days. But this is just one of those areas as fans on how we view wrestling different. What we enjoy most about it won't be the same. I don't mind watching an excellent well performed match here and there. But it's a heck of much more enjoyable match to me when I care about the wrestler(s) in the ring.

Both Kobashi and Kawada’s chest are beat red within seconds from all the chops. Kawada’s brainbuster happened way too early in match. But then again this match didn’t exactly last too long. Taue and Kawada looked incredibly strong in this as a team.

Sarah Palin and Will following the bridge to nowhere in Alaska to watch an AWA show?

Goofy and funny segment with Funk. I'd be curious to see how this would get over with the ECW crowd from 95-96.

They have more girls around for Flair and Arn. Having guests canceling on your show is not good for your image.

[1993-05-08-SMW-TV] Jim Cornette, Bob and Steve Armstrong
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
The sweat all over Cornette's face totally adds to this. Bob pulling off the clip on tie must be the equivalent of pulling down the tights strap. Jimmy goes too far calling Brian Armstrong a deserter and Bob pops good.- 10 replies

The Passion of Taskmaster. Sullivan's eyes are creepy as he seems to only be looking with one eye as squinting with the other.

Computer challenge match. I wonder is this the same computer from York Foundation. Ventura strongly questions why computer chose Bagwell and Scorpio. Pillman trying to use a foreign object before the match even begins is funny. Doing the whole Memphis stuff by hiding it between him and Austin. They briefly tease issues with Austin and Pillman. Blonds are great in this match. Scorpio's offense after the hot tag is great. He's very suited for that.

[1993-05-06-UWFi-Fight of Champions] Vader vs Tatsuo Nakano
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
This is one of the best squash matches ever. You are fearing for Nakano's well being watching Vader just mash him in the face. But Nakano has so much fight in him beating the count each time until the TKO finish. Vader was such a monster in this.- 11 replies

[1993-05-06-UWFi-Fight of Champions] Naoki Sano vs Kiyoshi Tamura
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in May 1993
I haven't done a detailed look back at things but Sano has to have one of the worst win-loss records on the yearbooks. But he doesn't feel like a jobber or anything but just seems to be so even with his opponents but can't pull out the victory in the end. Just someone I've come to root for with his hard work in the ring.- 10 replies
