Bischoff still grinning on TV even though he was suspended. I didn’t like the Savage addition as the group is loaded enough and now you have Sting hanging out with them too. He’s off to the side so obviously things aren’t right but I don’t get why he’s even there. Nice that even though he has the NWO colors he is not wearing one of their shirts. Don't see how Hogan can trust him.

As much as McMahon runs down the senior circuit, Piper gets a big reaction coming out from the crowd. Guys keep coming down to spar with Piper. We get a throw back to WrestleMania 2 as there is a mini boxing match. Crowd doesn’t like this part. Boxing match ends but Piper wants to go again. That’s where you call an audible and not do that since the crowd was already booing. Tenta arrives and the crowd seems happy to recognize someone for once. With such a loaded year I do wonder what was the last segment cut for this to make it.

[1997-03-03-WCW-Nitro] Eric Bischoff and Harvey Schiller
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in March 1997
Took long enough for Turner to get involved but Schiller shows up to confront Bischoff. I think it’s a nice moment to have a big shot like Schiller get involved but I don’t see how good this can be long term for a non-wrestling personality to be part of this. Bischoff gets suspended. A victory for WCW.- 6 replies

This was probably in the top 3 of my favorite matches when I watched it at the time. Tag partners competing for the brand new European title. Honky on commentary. Bulldog playing it up as a face. Honky wants to know what his tag team partners are doing at all hours. What a stalker. I liked they both allowing each other back in the ring as Owen doesn’t cheat where you think he would. Commentary keeps repeating this match will lead to more friction between the two. Honky does a Stu Hart impression. Just great action. There will be a better WWF match a couple weeks later but this is a joy to watch. WWF letting two of their guys go out there and wrestling for 20 minutes. Probably Owen's last great singles match for me.

Austin is great during this as comes off so angry for how he is being treated. This was Austin as his best on the mic and he didn't overdue the catch phrases. Calling Vince a jackass was a nice finishing touch.

Mankind says his promo in German which is cool. This character would have belonged in German Expressionism movies during 20’s.

Takayama has put on some size since his appearances in earlier yearbooks. Taue is hitting running kicks everywhere. Loads of suplexes being thrown. Takayama and Albright more aggressive with going after submissions. But it’s Kawada who gets the submission. Strong sub 15 minute match for All Japan.

[1997-02-28-BattlARTS] Yuki Ishikawa vs Alexander Otsuka
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
I see everyone picked up on the crowd in their comments. There looked to be more photographers at ringside than fans in attendance. Finishes in exactly 10 minutes. -
[1997-02-24-WCW-Nitro] Lex Luger & The Giant vs Harlem Heat
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
What chance did WCW have with Bischoff reversing these title changes. Though he did seem more focused on the tag belts compared to other belts. Luger wants every belt on the line at Uncensored. Sting makes a visit to the ring. Hogan's hug of Sting was great as the show goes off the air. -
NWO flying high right now with the introduction of Randy Savage. Hogan and Savage being buddy buddy doesn't feel right. Savage's reward for joining the NWO is Miss Elizabeth. Okay. She does seem happy.

[1997-02-24-WCW-Nitro] Diamond Dallas Page vs David Taylor
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Taylor looks to be auditioning for the Truth Commission. DDP hits a TKO like Diamond Cutter. Hall and Nash out to go after DDP but Savage is the different as DDP turns his back on him. Should have bailed through the crowd when you had the chance. -
[1997-02-24-WCW-Nitro] Eddy Guerrero & Chris Jericho vs Meng & Barbarian
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
I did dislike around this time that the powerbomb seemed to be just a regular move. Meng hits a huge one on Eddie and doesn't follow up on it. That must have been a signature spot for Barbarian where he would try to clothesline two guys but only connect with one while they guy who avoided it was able to hit him back. I've noticed that in a couple of his old WWF matches. Dean Malenko ends up getting Eddie back. Fun match. -
[1997-02-24-WWF-Raw] Tommy Dreamer vs D-Von Dudley
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Nice touch for them using the ECW graphics for their guys. When they went to the split camera it was so hard to keep my eyes off Lawler/Heymen with them going at it like that. Undertaker does an ill timed promo during the finish of the match. 3-D! And here is the Sandman. Paul does the hold me back attempt at going after Lawler. This whole show has probably been the most entertaining ECW of the yearbook so far. -
[1997-02-24-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels music video
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Ugh. Annoying to watch as they put over Shawn Michaels deadly knee injury. -
[1997-02-24-WWF-Raw] Legion of Doom vs Headbangers
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
When Vince was hyping this up earlier, Paul E totally no sold this surprise. But the crowd seems happy to see LOD back. Vince's "unbelievable" is more dramatic than his version for the BWO. Vince had to enjoy the "Nitro Sucks" chant as the announcers kept quiet for a few seconds for it to be heard. WWF style using superstar line. I want to say they got rid of that sometime in 97. Not exactly the satisfying finish you'd want for the return match of LOD. They still do the Doomsday Device after match. -
[1997-02-24-WWF-Raw] Jerry Lawler and Ken Shamrock
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Lawler initially puts over Shamrock and UFC and takes credit for training Ken. Shamrock calls him a liar. Ken wasn't the best talker but I thought it was part of his charm in 98/99. -
I absolutely loved this episode of Raw back in the day since I was such an ECW fan. Total Elimination on some poor guy. Paul E does the ring introduction for the match. Vince busts out his "unbelievable" for the BWO. Big Stevie busting out Hall and Nash moves. Raven makes a ringside appearance. Paul E offers Vince a job which cracks me up. I wanted more Vince/Lawler/Paul E on commentary.

[1997-02-23-WCW-Superbrawl VII] Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Lack of heat here too. Piper gets the win with the sleeper but Savage had pulled Hogan's feet under the ropes. Referee restarts match and Hogan gets the win with the help of Savage. Don't know about this Savage turn and the crowd wasn't too into it either. I agree that it seemed to have more legs with him hanging out with Sting. -
Nash's powerbomb of The Giant looked great. Luger makes a late appearance and wants the tag from the Giant. Felt like a total heel turn in the making of him attacking the Giant. But he takes out both Hall and Nash to win the tag titles. As clean as it gets so a reversal of this finish seems ridiculous. Tony is already talking about that this finish will probably be disputed.

[1997-02-23-WCW-Superbrawl VII] Dean Malenko vs Syxx
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Lack of heat is obvious. The fans seemed to always to be hot for cruiser opening matches but not here. Guerrero and Syxx have a tug of war over the belt which leads to Syxx hitting Malenko with the title. -
[1997-02-22-ECWA-Super 8] Ace Darling vs Cheetah Master
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Yeah, these guys were all over PWI back in the day. I wasn't too into this match myself. Was Ace Darling in ECW? Wiki says so. -
[1997-02-22-ECW-Cyberslam] Raven and The Sandman
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Why would Tommy walk out with Tyler like that? Tyler disappears and then Sandman brings Tyler to the ring. Good dad there. Brian Lee waits patiently for Sandman to finish his beer before attacking him. That was nice of him. Cane shots by Sandman for everyone. -
[1997-02-22-ECW-TV] Pulp Fiction / Sabu and Taz brawl
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in February 1997
Taz dispatches of RVD. Sabu is clearly the face so I do wonder about him and Taz doing the double turn later on. -
Team TAKA actually make great additions to the BWO. They eagerly accept their new fancy shirts.

And, aw and ugh. No, decent english offering from Sasuke. Too bad the other guys had nothing to say.
