I wonder if Jim Cornette has a phobia of cakes after all these years of having one end up in his face. Like birthday's must be the worst thing for him. -

Tough one. Maybe the big tag team Survivor Series match? -
There was definitely a division of WWF versus WCW fans. I had one friend who was very pro WCW fan back in the mid 90's who we use to rag on for. We would always say We Can't Wrestle to him which is very debatable now since they put out the better in ring presentation. I can look back and totally admit to the faults of WWF at the time but I was very stubborn about embracing WCW. Them dominating in the ratings? Oh, there must be some type of fix! It was two years of denial by me before WWF finally took the ratings lead in 98.

I wish I had Johnny Sorrow's optimism towards modern day wrestling. That or his weed connection. I could do a White Russian right now though.

Both Nash and Hall taking bumps on Steiner suplexes. Hall ends up getting the visual pinfall but Nick Patrick was knocked out. Randy Anderson comes out of the crowd to then count Hall's shoulders down. NWO did not pay for security on their own show to avoid such a thing.

[1997-01-25-WCW-NWO Souled Out] Diamond Dallas Page and the NWO
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
DDP gets confronted by the NWO C-Team to join the group. If he did not join up when Hall and Nash asked him I doubt he going to listen to these guys. Diamond Cutter for Norton.- 7 replies

That was a pretty sweet opening with the black and white and all the NWO arriving in trucks. It is their PPV and they gave it their own feel. Excellent production.

Let Will have his foreplay. Dandy from the 80's is very intriguing for a guy like me working through the 90's watching him.

As far as the past I'm definitely a WWF guy. I agree that it seemed like good workers (mid card guys) could get over more in front of the WCW crowds. Maybe the Northeast fans were more strict. I think the thing that always stood out to me was that WCW fans embraced Lucha/Cruiserweight action where WWF fans seemed to completely sit on.

I don't like the idea of WWE getting rid of Survivor Series. I feel like this has come up before about them moving on from this show. As a traditionalist, I would like them to always have this show but they haven't been following the gimmick as much since the mid 90's. I think the problem with MITB is that it's the PPV just before Summerslam which is still a major show. You end up with a big gap until the next big show as far as treatment in Royal Rumble. -
Nice work. I like how it clearly runs down the whole card for the show. They don't always do that now on their current DVD/Blu Ray releases.

[1997-01-25-ECW-TV] Shane Douglas and Masked Superstar
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
The crowd were chanting Rude as he was making his way to the ring so they were not fooled. Pitbull #1 makes a big return but I found him using so many Irish whips to be silly for what should be a more aggressive beatdown of Douglas.- 7 replies

There were bigger guys in ECW but Taz did look like the last guy you would want to mess with. He talks about a match with Sabu and that he will beat him in five minutes. Crowd does not believe that one and Taz has words for a fan.

Tommy gets thrown off the stage but looks like he was able to brace his fall enough. Crowd takes the time to chant about Francine instead.

[1997-01-25-USWA-TV] Flash Flanagan update / PG-13 promo
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
I wonder did they do multiple takes and this was the best one dad could do. PG-13 are crying at the awfulness of the acting. It is the most sickening thing they have ever seen. Corey gets wise with Wolfie D. -

Tracey Smothers apart of the Nation of Domination!! I figure he will have a cameo later this year in the Truth Commission. Smothers wearing some gloves. Fun match. -
[1997-01-22-RINGS-Mega Battle Tournament] Volk Han vs Kiyoshi Tamura
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
Tamura does a kip up! Them putting a move on only for the other guy to reverse was great. Generally I prefer striking in these type of matches but these guys were more enjoyable when they got down on the mat. The overhead camera was super with showing these guys putting on these holds. Great crowd too.- 15 replies

[1997-01-21-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXXIV] Lex Luger vs Scott Hall
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1997
I seem to remember the whole match being pretty good but whether it holds up I do not know. Luger fights off the NWO for a while. He flings Syxx to the outside with ease. Finally the numbers catch up during the match. The Steiners make the save though to run off the Outsiders.- 7 replies

Sullivan wants to start things outside the ring and Benoit is game. I can only imagine if some fan was taking a legit number two and being in the background as they fight in the bathroom. Woman clocks Sullivan with a wooden chair leading to Benoit win. Benoit gets his own shot in after. Them lying around in the bathroom could not have been fun.

[1997-01-21-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXXIV] The Giant promo

I do not think this is the right backdrop for this promo as it comes off as a poor NWO imitation. Giant is ready for his high school yearbook photo though.- 7 replies

I enjoyed this one a lot back in the day as I taped this show and watched it many times after. That said, I do not see Meltzer's rating for it. I hate when announcers go all dumb when someone mentions a wrestling move name they pretend to not know. There looks to be a brawl in the crowd that gets everyones attention. Not as good as I remembered but still a decent match. Dragon dropped a bunch of belts quickly.
