[1996-12-15-WWF-It's Time] Flash Funk vs Leif Cassidy
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in December 1996
Really good opener. Scorpio is the second "high flyer" WWF got in 1996 after Marc Mero (I know, but that's what they thought he was). A good example of WWF trying to bring in the high flying style to it's product. He's a great guy to work openers & get the crowd hot. I thought Snow looked good in this as well. Lots of high spots in this. The belly-to-belly to the floor is brutal. The stretch run is really good with some nice near falls & Flash Funk hitting the 450 for the win.- 10 replies

Good promo. I liked that Austin & Owen tried to "Pillmanize" Bret's ankle. Great callback to what Austin did to Pillman & it makes sense as Austin is angry Bret got the better of him at Survivor Series. The Davey Boy stuff is interesting. I don't know how good an Austin-Davey Boy feud would have been. What we got is seems definitely better in comparison. Bret's a pretty confident promo here so I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to It's Time & seeing how the big stories & feuds intertwine.

[1996-11-25-WWF-Raw] Interview: Shawn Michaels & Jose Lothario
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
Shawn is annoying here. He's yelling. The talking out of the side of his mouth. He's whining. Poor Jose. He thinks he cost Shawn the title. If Shawn had been more calm, I think this might have been a solid promo. A little bit of whining is justified. He's just loud & way too obnoxious here.- 11 replies

Awesome brawl. Holy crap this is fun. It's two guys who lost the night before who are pissed off & ready to kick some ass. The brawling on the aisle & floor to start is great. Once they get in the ring they hardly ever slow down. Mankind takes a crazy bump over the guardrail at one point. Really heated fight. Neither guy could lose this match clean so The Executioner came down & attacked Austin for the DQ. Taker ran down to make the save, but Austin clotheslined him to the floor. Taker & Austin have a hot faceoff to close the segment. I loved this. Tremendous way to kick things off after Survivor Series.

[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Shawn Michaels vs Sid
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
I really liked this match. My biggest complaint is they copied the slugfest spots from Austin-Bret which is a no no in my book (even though the spots themselves got good reactions). Watch the matches before yours fellas. I liked Sid countering all of Shawn's stuff & him embracing the cheers is a treat to watch. Shawn doing a nip up only get clotheslined to smithereens is amazing. They kept with the story of Sid saying he'd do anything to win the title & he does by attacking Lothario which takes Shawn out of the match. This allows Sid to take the advantage & win the title to a massive pop. I don't really feel bad for Shawn because he's a scumbag but he does work his ass off. I'm surprised at how much I enjoyed this.- 20 replies

[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Hall of Fame highlights
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
I coudn't find this on the Network version of Survivor Series, but I can watch the whole thing on it's own. Don't want to do that. Saw a brief highlight when I was skipping through the ceremony a bit on the Network. I forget the Hall of Fame has been arond this long. -
[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Bret Hart vs Steve Austin
Exposer replied to a topic in November 1996
Excellent match. I don't know exactly how it compares to other great matches in WWF history, but it's up there. Austin's character development & attitude change over the previous months makes his basic wrestling approach a bit jarring. Especially in this match where he's been talking so much trash. He spent the two weeks prior to this practically trying to end another man's life & saying he'd whip Bret's ass in a pretty aggressive manner. I don't even know if that's a criticism, but it's something I noticed & thought about. I did love the opening stare down & Austin flipping the bird. That's character consistency. The wrestling is tremendous in the early going. Again, I'm a little taken aback by it since Austin has been so out of control the last few weeks before this. I really got into this once the aggression started to pick up. The ringside brawling is fantastic. The two moments I popped for the most were the barricade breaking & Bret winning the second slugfest. Austin does everything he can to put Bret away, but he just can't manage. The finish is brilliant & protects both guys. This match is all about Austin proving himself to be the best, but falling just short as Bret still has a lot left in him. Austin is dying to defeat Bret & maybe that's why he stuck to the basics approach at first because he had something to prove. This is certainly a WWF MOTYC & in the upper echelon of all time WWF matches. I'm glad I watched it again after not having seen it in nearly ten years.- 18 replies

[1996-11-17-WWF-Survivor Series] Interview: Rocky Maivia
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
WWE Network makes odd cuts & they seemed to have removed this from Survivor Series 96. I found the interview with him from RAW the week before the show instead. It's amazing the transformation this guy had from late 96 through the summer of 99. -
This is funny because it comes in right after Pillman cocks the gun at Austin. The perfect representation of 1996 WWF having an identity crisis. Fun commercial though with Sid beating Marlena & Marlena saying the "You'll never work in this town again!" line to her karate fighter action figure. These were entertaining.

[1996-11-04-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin-Brian Pillman confrontation
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in November 1996
This is tremendous. It's over the top & probably a bit much but I was compelled the entire way through. JR & Vince having an argument on commentary during this is awesome too. Austin's brawl with Pillman's buddies is the highlight. He just beats the piss out of these guys. This is some of the most tense stuff in WWF history. It kind of makes sense that Pillman would have a gun to protect his family from a raging madman who's threatening to cripple him. Maybe it shouldn't be for TV, but I get it. It's also consistent with his "Loose Cannon" persona. The cliffhanger on if a shot was fired or not is kind of lame though. The ending felt a bit disappointing because of the long wait after the feed went out & nothing really happened. I agree it would have been better with Pillman wielding a bat or something leading to a huge pull apart brawl. I understand why Pillman would have a gun, but it wasn't necessary at all. I still think this was effective & an awesome angle to do once.- 12 replies

[1996-10-27-WWF-Superstars] Bret Hart and Steve Austin
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
This whole thing is great. Austin is a complete asshole here running down Bret during the main interview, harassing Dok Hendrix earlier in the show, & getting angry with the production crew so much that he launches a production guy into a ladder. Crazy moment. Austin also says he will show up at Pillman's house next week planting the seeds for that insanity. Bret is fine here & I really enjoy how he conducts himself in contrast to Austin's demeanor. Austin swallows him whole here though & Bret can't find the words to make any sort of comeback. The cops are called & Austin is escorted out of the studios to close the show as he says he's bulletproof because Vince won't let anything happen to him. Awesome. The build to Austin-Bret is in full swing & it's great to watch. -
[1996-10-27-WWF-Superstars] Brian Pillman interviews Steve Austin
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
Amazing segment. Pillman interviews Austin about Bret accepting his challenge for Survivor Series. Austin doesn't take kind to Pillman's celebration of that announcement on RAW & he points out footage of Pillman shaking Bret's hand at the entrance. Austin lights into Pillman & says he carried him in his back pocket during the Hollywood Blondes run. Austin goes back to Bret & says he'll beat his ass. I loved Pillman mocking Austin by putting over Bret's "Best there is..." nickname. This infuriates Austin who famously "Pillmanizes" Pillman's ankle. Great beat down & attack from Austin. Gerald Brisco takes a tremendous bump to the floor during all of this. Great segment that really puts Austin over as someone with a light fuse who does what he wants, when he wants. -
[1996-10-21-WWF-Raw] Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs Marc Mero
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
It's kind of disappointing that they did all of this build for Perfect's return & they do a swerve instead with him getting "hurt." At least we got a match & a title match at that. Good match. Mero had to be one of the better TV workers of 1996 WWF. Mero's switching springboard moonsault is an awesome spot & serves as a great near fall here. Perfect aligning with HHH is fine, but it was a bit confusing. It sort of makes sense, but they need to explain it. The turn is a cool surprise nonetheless. Chair shots to the head are becoming more common I've noticed. Times are changing in the WWF.- 12 replies

Really great interview. Bret is one of the most underrated promos of all time. He covers a lot of ground here explaining why he left, why he's coming back, & accepting Steve Austin's challenge for Survivor Series. I loved the camera panning over to Vince showing how nervous he is about Bret's decision. Austin's reaction to Pillman's glee at Bret accepting the match is great. Bret puts over Shawn Michaels a little bit, but his bitterness comes out when he says he's tougher & smarter than HBK. He later takes a dig at his "sexy boy" gimmick towards the end. Just a tremendous piece of business & in a lot of ways the segment that kicks off the road to the hottest period in company history.

[1996-10-20-WWF-Buried Alive] The Undertaker vs Mankind (Buried Alive)
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
Great brawl. This feud isn't talked about enough for it's innovation, storytelling, & in-ring work. It's one of the best WWF feuds of all time. Foley takes some sickening bumps in this as always. The hip toss from the top of the cemetary is nuts, but I think the bump head first into the metal barricade is even nastier. Loved Mankind using his shank (don't know what else to call it). Seems like a fitting weapong for a lunatic. Foley did a lot of neat touches in this that a crazy person who doesn't give a shit would do like throwing dirt in Taker's eyes as a cutoff. Another great moment is the chairshot Taker takes to the head where the crowd pops at first but then remains in stunned silence because that kind of violence wasn't the norm at the time. I also popped for the cradle down the cemetary hill getting both guys covered in dirt. Finish is great with Taker avoiding an urn shot & sending Mankind in the grave with a huge chokeslam. Taker wins, but is attacked by the debut of The Executioner. The burying of the Undertaker took too long, but I still enjoyed this post-match. Fans got a bit bored with it & started chugging drinks & such at the grave. The final moment with Taker's hand popping out of the grave is tremendous. The production of this feud & The Undertaker in general can't be forgotten. Outstanding work by the WWF. I've loved this feud.- 11 replies

[1996-10-20-WWF-Buried Alive] Steve Austin vs Hunter Hearst Helmsley
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in October 1996
Good match. Austin's pre-match promo is great where he tells people who don't like his language to "kiss his ass." Austin really is a nice throwback during this time. All of his matches are very basic but build really well. I appreciate working the opening minutes around gaining the advantage with holds. When they finally get to more high impact offense & a few near falls it feels earned & therefore the pin attempts are a little more meaningful. They teased Perfect-Austin which is also something that didn't happen unitl 2002. I liked the finish a lot with Austin missing his ropes bombs away, flipping the bird, & hitting the stunner for the win. The JR stuff got a few laughs out of me but starts to get really annoying a few minutes in. This is the end of Hunter's punishment from the MSG incident & Austin is on a role towards the break out feud of his career. Things are going to get really interesting in the WWF soon. -
This match felt like it was building to something good, then it stopped for the DQ finish & all the run-ins. I enjoyed the old school approach they took to the match. Austin stalling & both guys fighting over holds. The post-match is important because Sid-Shawn is teased after Austin sends Sid into Shawn when Shawn isn't looking. That's a great heel thing to do by Austin. The crowd popped for the Sid-Shawn face off. They clear the air & send the heels packing to close the show ending on good terms as they celebrate together. I'm interested to see how more over Sid is than Shawn during their program.

Too much Jeff Jarrett talk. This still sucks. I like Road Dogg, but what a bad way to introduce him.

These Buried Alive vignettes are awesome. Taker digs Mankind's grave & says he won't "Rest in Peace." I'm excited for Buried Alive.

[1996-09-30-WWF-Raw] Vader & Jim Cornette vs Shawn Michaels & Jose Lothario
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in September 1996
I enjoyed this. Good match. Shawn & Vader have good chemistry. We got a brief Jose-Corny showdown which is fun. Shawn takes a massive clothesline from Vader off a dodged sweet chin music. Vader gets another clean victory on Shawn, much the same way he did at International Incident. This doesn't go anywhere sadly. Sid comes out & saves Shawn from a beat down leading to Goldust showing up. Shawn recovers & the baby faces start fighting with the heels as the show goes off the air. This seemed to be the end of the Shawn-Vader feud. Vader was mishandled in the WWF. The Shawn feud was a good idea, but he probably should have won the title. -
[1996-09-30-WWF-Raw] Savio Vega vs New Razor Ramon
Exposer replied to Loss's topic in September 1996
This went on & on. Gorilla & JR arguing on commentary is fun at first but gets more annoying as the match seems to never end. The snorefest ends when Fake Diesel interferes & he & Fake Razor hit their finishing moves. This is very bad.- 12 replies

This is so stupid. I'm already tired of the Jeff Jarrett talk. Jesse James is evidently a pretty decent singer though.
