  1. I liked Undertaker & Bret brawling right away when Taker came out. The match itself is just there & includes an aggrivating & bizarre moment with Lawler leaving commentary & smacking the mat telling Austin to work Taker's ribs. They cut to backstage & Bret-Vader are brawling in a pull apart. The match ends in a schmozz with all four guys brawling to a hot crowd. Great close to the show. The WWF feels like a hot product for the first time in a long time.
  2. Another great segment on this show tying all of the Rumble controversies together. Vince brings Gorilla to the ring who announces a Fatal 4 Way #1 contender elimination match for IYH in February. Taker, Vader, Bret (if he accepts), & Austin are announced as the participants. Taker, Vader, & Bret are in the match because they were illegally eliminated by Austin. Gorilla blowing off Vince's handshake is hilarious. Austin comes out angry that he has to go through another step to get a title shot & cuts an awesome scating promo on Gorilla. He even gets in his face & Vince has to seperate them. Bret comes back out through the crowd & accepts the invitation to compete in the 4 way & brawls with Austin to great heat. Amazing segment. Austin is a star & Bret is the perfect foil for him. This definitely feels like the first time where the WWF is "on" so to speak. One of the most important, and underrated, nights in company history.
  3. Great segment. Bret comes out & gives a lashing to Vince & the WWF over the controversies he's dealt with since coming back. What makes this Bret turn so great is his anger & frustration is justified. He IS getting screwed out of the WWF title. Bret quits & walks out on Vince through the crowd. Vince is distraught & tries to dissuade Bret from leaving. Vince is great during all of this. Austin shows up & cuts an amazing promo on Bret, Sid (who was his original opponent but is sidelined with a concussion) The Undertaker, & Gorilla Monsoon. The fans are loving it. This is about the best way to start things off after the controversial Rumble. Tremendous stuff.

    Edge

I'd rather watch Edge than Triple H. Maybe some of the bad stuff with Kane. Otherwise, nah. I prefer the others to him.
  5. You're right! I keep thinking they are the same song. I had "Rollin" playing in my head when I made my post yesterday. I should know these things since I was a big Taker fan & marked out watching JD 2000 live as kid
  6. Shawn's pre-match promo is a little better than previous ones in this feud as he at least brings up the attack on Pete Lothario with some dissatisfaction. I loved the big entrances. It gave this a big time feel. Sid is great coming out saying he smells a powerbomb. Really fun atmosphere. Really good match. This is better than the Survivor Series match until the finishing run which is overbooked. The false finishes are good & get nice pops, but it was a little much. It's mostly the ref bump & Sid choking the Lotharios that led to nothing that bothered me. Sid worked over Shawn's back most of the match & it's pretty good work from him. There were a few great cut offs including Sid leveling Shawn with a clothesline. I didn't like Shawn no selling the powerbomb on the floor. The spot seemed unnecessary if it wasn't going to lead to anything other than Sid briefly choking the Lotharios. I loved the callback to the Survivor Series with the camera though. Shawn eventually wins with the superkick to a huge pop. The post-match is great. They seemed to have done these long post-matches a lot during this period & I wish they'd bring them back. They're great for big moments & wins like this. Sid was pretty protected in this match so it's obvious they had some big plans for him. Shawn "Losing His Smile" is just around the corner. Things are going to get even more interesting in the WWF.
  7. Not a good Rumble. There are great moments though. Austin's reaction when Bret comes out is legendary. Awesome moment. The crowd popped for their slugfest. Austin is really great in this. He's the true highlight of this match. I loved his brawl with Faarooq too right as Ahmed came back out with the 2x4. Mil Mascaras making sure to put no one over is hilarious. His elimination is funny as hell. Ahmed is also a dumbass for jumping over the top rope when he could have easily slid under the ropes. Dumb booking there. The last few minutes are neat with the top Attitude Era stars mixing it up with Terry Funk, Bret Hart, Flash Funk, Vader, & Henry Godwinn of all people. Taker coming out at #30 got a good pop. I thought he looked good in the match. The finish is pretty famous with Austin getting eliminated while the refs are trying to break up a Mankind-Funk brawl on the floor. Austin slips back in & eliminates Taker & Vader who are tied up in the ropes before eventually tossing out Bret. Controversial finish that continues Bret's slow heel turn. Bret has a legitimate gripe here & physically threatens Vince. Vince is none too happy with that & calls Bret's actions "unsportsmanlike." Fake Diesel has an argument to be made about Taker & Vader being eliminated before him, so he should have gotten a second chance too . Anyways, I liked this finish. It's a unique one & a dangerous one at that (It's not a Rumble finish they can ever justifiably do again), but it does a great job of building to Bret's heel turn & creates even more intrigue going into Mania.

    Edge

I didn't spare Barrett the same criticism. If it came across that way, it's not what I meant. I meant they were both injury prone, but for two guys who were Barrett was much better.

    Edge

I feel like this is a step way too far. Barrett on any given night was usually the worst guy in the ring. I don't see any way he was "way better" than Edge and I'm not an Edge fan. Barrett sucked. Completely disagree. I thought Barrett was a really good worker.
  10. Yeah, Taker didn't use "Your Gonna Pay" until his late 01 heel turn I believe. It was Kid Rock in 00 & 01
  11. Not much of a match but the excitement here comes from the post-match which is great. Funk comes out & attacks Austin resulting in DQ. The ring fills with a bunch of wrestlers & Goldust-HHH & Funk-Austin pair off brawling around the building. HHH hits Goldust with a pull cue & in an awesome ending to the show Austin pushes Funk into a beer tub & the brawl in & around the beer tub! Really cool & fun way to hype the Rumble the night before.
  12. This is fucking amazing. I love Terry Funk. He cuts an awesome promo on entering the Rumble match & rips on WCW, Jim Ross, & threatens Vince, Pettingill, & Austin. I loved the look on Austin's face when Funk finally addresses him. Austin has enough & they get into eventually ending in Austin sending Funk out of the ring. Tremendous segment. Really fun stuff & a nice way to hype the Rumble.
  13. The match isn't much. Rock hasn't figured out how to best use his charisma yet. It'll take him a little while longer. I liked Bret on commentary. The Rumble match is being built around Austin-Bret which is interesting. I do like the booking though with Austin attacking Bret on Superstars & Bulldog here seemingly taking out two of his biggest competition in the match. There's personal & business reasons for why he'd attack them which is a sign of strong, layered booking. Owen's role in all of this hasn't really been defined yet. I guess it leads to brief Davey Boy split down the line as he sort of sides with Austin at first. Owen stands in front of the commentary booth to prevent Bret from interfering in the match. This backfires allowing Austin to come out & attack Davey Boy. Bret limps after Austin & Rocky wins by count-out. Solid build to the Rumble adding intrigue with Bret & Davey Boy both being hurt leading into the match.
  14. Sid's promo is fucking awesome. I'm hyped to see the match because of it. This is probably his best promo ever. Shawn's promo is fine out of context but he doesn't seem too upset about Pete Lothario getting attacked. Shawn as a babyface is really lame at this point.
  15. This is amazing. What an over the top show this was for a few weeks. Putting this on the "cover" of a Vanity Fair magazine makes it.
  16. This is disturbing as hell. I laughed though. Completely surreal. I could't believe what I was watching. Sunny has sex with Elmo. Yes, this happened.
  17. This is hilarious. The Sisters of Love get arrested for solicitation outside of a Disney store. Their mugshots are indeed funny. The early weeks of Shotgun Saturday Night are tremendously wacky. I really like the original idea & format for this show.
  18. It's a dub in on The Network.
  19. Good match. Bret works over Vader a bit after Vader misses a charge into the steps. Vader takes control again though & dominates with some great power offense. I liked his second rope splash. It looked really painful. Sid shows back up & brings a camera man to follow him to the back. This leads to the ref being distracted & Austin coming out to give Bret a stunner on the floor. Vader takes advantage & wins with the Vader Bomb in the ring. We find where Sid took the cameraman & he's beating up Pete Lothario, Jose Lothario's son. He gives him a great looking powerbomb on a wooden table of some kind in the back. Shawn & Jose rush to Lothario's aid. I love Sid, but this doesn't make any sense. I guess they finally decided to turn Sid full heel here. A lot of fans don't want to cheer Shawn though. I don't think anyone gives a shit about Pete Lothario either to be honest. Bizarre choice as an angle to build to The Rumble.
  20. Sid is great here. He's still a tweener, but that ends at the conclusion of this show. I liked his promo though. He got in a couple of good lines. Shawn sucks the fun out of this segment by dancing on the announce table like a fucking moron. Sid reacting by laughing & saying he's going to apologize for what he was about to do is weird. Odd segment following the promo.
  21. The Rock & Mascarita Sagrada sitting near each other in an NYC bar is amazing. Backlund can't believe Marlena's outfit & is offended by her cleavage. The highlight is Backlund scolding The Sultan for looking.
  22. Brother Love makes masturbation jokes & renames the Flying Nuns to the Sisters of Love. Bizarre segment that's fitting for this show. A show idea like this is good to try & see how an adult product works in the WWF. A lot of crazy & entertaining ideas.
  23. This is hilarious. Backlund is losing his mind over the debauchery of Shotgun Saturday Night. A pair of nuns standing in the ring to open the show really is a surreal visual & in a lot of ways the perfect way to kick off this show. It lets the audience know that this is going to be a wild show from the start.
  24. Bret's promo is amazing. He's been so fed up with the attacks by Austin, HBK getting the spotlight, & everyone getting involved in his title match costing him that he's decided he won't follow by the rules either. Whiny Bret is so great. He's basically right too. I loved him saracastically saying he's going to call it right down the middle as a color commentator during Austin-Vader. Great brawl. The crowd pops big each time Austin takes Vader down. Austin letting loose after the low blow is probably my favorite moment in the match. Bret gets revenge for Austin clipping him the night before by clipping Austin & putting him in the sharpshooter. Vader doesn't take kindly to Bret interfereing & they have a great pull apart brawl. Bret goes back the sharpshooter on Austin after that forcing officials to pull him off. This whole segment is awesome. It's really great underlying storytelling of Bret coming back to a WWF that is much different from the one he left after WM 12.
  25. The pre-match stuff is great. We get Dok Hendrix showing video of earlier in the day on Superstars with Sid, Bret, & HBK getting in a three man brawl. Sid's promo is great saying Shawn beat Bret, he beat Shawn like a dog, & that means it'll be even easier for him to beat Bret. Bret's interview is great as he's in full whiny mode hating on Shawn & getting pissed when Shawn's music hits during his interview. Pretty good match. Bret's a smart enough worker to keep things interesting by working over Sid's back most of the match. It's not all that compelling, but it covers the time well & makes sense from a psychology standpoint. Austin gets involved & clips Bret's knee. Davey Boy comes out to run off Austin. I love all the mixing of the top feuds. It keeps things fresh & interesting over the long term. Excellent booking. Bret works from underneath now. He kicks out of a chokeslam in a good near fall. The finish sees Shawn finally getting involved after Sid pie faces him. He gets on the apron & Bret is swung into him. Shawn takes a huge bump off of the collision. Sid capitalizes & hits his powerbomb for the win. Bret loses his temper after the match & beats the shit out of a woozy Shawn. That ruled. It looked like a bar fight. Shawn cuts a promo to close the show saying he's going to kick Bret's teeth down his throat. Tremendous main event overall in terms of booking with multiple feuds being teased & set-up for the coming year.
