  1. yeah I'm a homer too, I woulda been tempted to have it at the Grand Olympic here in L.A.
  2. I liked Chad's booking as well but woulda tweaked it a bit. Instead of "Hollywood" Hogan I woulda went with a Thunderlips version since Hollywood hadn't come around yet. I aslo woulda had the card at the Mid South Coliseum . I know it only seats 10,000 compared to Omni's 16,000 but you make the rest up on PPV anyways. Imagine the incredible heat in Memphis and no doubt Hogan would still have his fans there too. All in all it was a fun excercise and everyone displayed creativity.
  3. The St. Louis tv show was voted as the worse by the Observer I believe in 1983. Unlike many studio shows they didn't have any backdrop of their Logo and it looked like it was shot in a garage. They had some good matches but overall the show was drab. Matysiks tv show in 1983 was actually better than the NWA one. His was in a corner of the Dome at their sports club or something like that and they had competitive matches like Volkoff-Brody, etc.
  4. Yeak I liked your booking the best, made sense
  5. Just got my DVD today of this, gotta admit, I cheated and listened to the podcast over the weekend
  6. Brody has been idolized by hardcores including myself so I see the overrated argument but wouldn't go so far as to say he sucked. I too have watched tons of Brody going back to my tape trading days in the late 80's, also recently watched some Japan stuff
  7. David Shultz would to be somewhat of a badass to be the top bounty hunter he was. Still looks great today
  8. No one did, my exageration to make a point in the way brodsy is being talked about. But just watch Nord in Mid South and tell me he was better than Brody. I have spent the better part of a year watching the Mid South voulmes from start to Jan of 86 and Nord's upper body power moves loo weak and sloppy. He had excellent leg strength which showed during leg drops and stuff like that. But Nord has the weakest swinging full nelson or just plain full nelson i have ever seen. As far as Duggan goes I could buy that, at least Mid South Duggan, so no argument there. I would still take Brody over Dick Murdoch, Dick Slater and someother guys. Slaughter from 80-85 was better than Brody but really tailed off after he left Vince. Brody had two real good matches with Flair in St. Louis and great tag matches with Snuka in japan early 80's and 87 and some real good stuff with Dory. I also like the wrestlerock main event. I liked the few matches I have seen of Brody-Blackwell. For the most part the Japan stuff I saw was good. Overrated? Possibly but horrible? seems like a stretch to me.
  9. I totally understand the Brody is overrated argument but come on this guy wasn't the second coming of Rusty Brooks
  10. Barbarian also looked downright pathetic as Yukon John Nord in the AWA.
  11. Are we counting pre-long hair John Nord as a Brody tribute/knockoff act? The Barbarian in Mid-South was definitely more consistent than Brody. Duggan is clearly better. Barbarian had about the weakest full nelson I ever seen for someone so strong. Just watch him in Mid South
  12. Nord better than brody? Really? That's funny and ridiculous
  13. yup
  14. yup
  15. I didn't know I need to qualify it by mentioning the Nancy Argentina incident for the millionth time
  16. Jimmy Snuka beat the shit out of Victor Rivera in Japan over and over again accroding to Stan Hansen's book
  17. I can't understand the feelings from some old school guys re;George Scott. It seemed like he booked a pretty hot period for the territory. I also don't know how true it is that during his tenure that the houses started going down. He also had his hand in booking the WWF during a real hot period. Maybe guys like Ole are a little jealous. I know that his return to the NWA in 89 was less than stellar but he was prolly past his booking prime by that point. For all the stuff Cornette says about George, has Cornette ever booked anything that would even compare to the Hot Mid Atlantic mid and late 70's? I know that Ole's booking went to crap in 83 with Georgia.
  18. I'm down for any fantasy league. I started doing this in 85, fantasy booking the AWA from the time they lose Hogan onwards
  19. Man I gotta catch up on these, works been kicking my ass
  20. Billy Jack Haynes shoot was entertaining, dude sure don't like Hulk Hogan all cuz Terry didn't show up at his gym opening
  21. Going to shows for both Fed's in the 80's and 90's I saw a big difference in the fan bas and their tastes. WWF was like watching powder puff football, the NWA was like watching the old NFC east smash mouth football.
  22. I think there would have been a more natural and gradual evolution of the business if Vince hadn't of gone National
  23. I've never saw any of those matches, maybe I'll search out & try to seek a couple of them sometime soon The few matches that I have of them are raw footage. There is also a cool tv angle where Snuka puts on Flair's robe
  24. Underrated feud for Flair would be his Mid Atlantic one with Jimmy Snuka in 79-80
