  1. I posted about the Nancy Grace stuff in the Warrior thread, didn't know there was talk here. Here's the segment: I still don't see anything where the "Wrestlers Who Died Young" scroll meant that each person died of drugs. And she doesn't say anything like that, "Take a look at wrestlers who died young", she says before the first scroll before asking a doctor a Q. I think someone who watched the video tried to put two and two together with the steroid talk and wrongfully assumed that Nancy and the show's list were those they thought died from drugs. And the news spreads. And the list probably hasn't been updated since their Benoit coverage. You don't have Umaga, Kanyon, Lance Cade or Test (all 40 and under deaths) on there. I'm not a fan of her show, and haven't watched it since the Benoit murder-suicide. I wonder if any who tweeted, like Foley or Cornette, even watched the clip.
  2. This Nancy Grace stuff, I haven't watched her since the Benoit coverage, but people are really jumping the gun about her Warrior coverage last night. I don't think anyone even watched it, and I'm not implying it was good. For this 8 minute clip, I don't see anything where she says Owen Hart died of drugs or that every death on the "Wrestlers Who Died Young" scroll were necessarily drug-related. There's this outpouring of tweets plus #CancelNancyGrace is trending. BTW, I don't think their scroll/list has been updated since Benoit. No Lance Cade or Kanyon, Umaga or Test to be found.
  3. Does anyone know if he had any (political) public speaking engagements since '06 at Depaul? Don't remember hearing about any after that. The Depaul student group that hosted him put the whole 2+ hr video on Youtube awhile back. The audio was not synched up, but boy was it entertaining in some way. I had downloaded it, but didn't save it.
  4. Haven't had a membership to the site in around 3 years (when Savage died), but I'm tempted to re-sub soon, esp. if there's good Warrior pieces plus the back issues and such. That site can be a time suck tho. Too much of a good thing is still too much. Is the Dave's Leather Jacket thread still active?
  5. I hope he saves the bio for a future issue instead of rushing to get it done tonight. Of course, he should report his death and his WM activities, but there is so much to cover with him. I think he did a decent bio around the time of the '05 DVD. Like Dylan just said, I may send a few bullet points to help jog Dave's memory. Wish I had done that for the Albano obit where he pretty much glossed over his mid 90s WWF return and some of his more notable "talking head" news appearances.
  6. Seemed like OMG was falsely reported dead at one point, right? I wanna say a WWE DVD commentary re-recording. On that note, Warrior is the first wrestler from the Summerslam 91 main event to pass away. Youngest of the 5 by far, Hogan 5 yrs older, Slaughter 10, Sheik 15, Adnan 20ish.
  7. Sure, but I think his main motivator for working that match was so his daughters could see him wrestle.
  8. Plus, they just released the DVD (which surely will spike in sales now) and a bunch of new merch at WWEshop, so they will get a nice tidy sum from that.
  9. Been trying to embed some tweets but can't figure it out. Here's some: William Shatner: I saw that the Ultimate Warrior passed away. Very sad.(https://twitter.com/WilliamShatner/status/453768052534812672) DeAngelo Williams: I'm saddened from the news of the ultimate warrior passing! My thoughts and prayers are with his family #legendsdontdie (https://twitter.com/DeAngeloRB/status/453749758851829760) Jericho: Devastated to hear of the passing of @UltimateWarrior. He was a childhood hero of mine & he vs @HulkHogan WM6 is still one of the best ever (https://twitter.com/IAmJericho/status/453749780838367232)
  10. I'll post some mainstream news stories on this, very interested to see the coverage, sorry if some of these are redundant: http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/pro-wrestling-legend-ultimate-warrior-dead-54/story?id=23250160 http://nypost.com/2014/04/09/ultimate-warrior-former-wwe-champion-dead-at-54/ http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/2014/04/09/wwe-says-the-ultimate-warrior-dead-at-54/7495659/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/09/ultimate-warrior-dead_n_5115492.html http://variety.com/2014/biz/news/wwe-ultimate-warrior-james-hellwig-dies-at-54-1201154642/ http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/ultimate-warrior-wwe-hall-of-famer-dies-at-54-1.2603613 http://www.tsn.ca/other_sports/story/?id=448764 Nothing on ESPN or CNN's sites yet. On Opie and Anthony today, Iron Sheik was on and ripped Warrior like usual. However, Sheik just posted this video on instagram (http://instagram.com/p/mjlgq4nk9M/#), saying anything bad he said about him was a work and RIP.
  11. I'm so stunned and saddened over this. One of my all-time favorites when I was a kid. Still marked out for him during his 96 and 98 returns and his promo on Raw last night. Always felt he got a bad wrap over the years with the Self-Distruction DVD and other wrestlers blindly hating him, seemingly just b/c he saved his money and left wrestling on his own terms. And he turned a lot of those nay-sayers around when he did that tribute to Savage. The timing is so weird. He was a heavy steroid user for a long period. From his bodybuilding days, wrestling, he was still pretty jacked up in recent years. I don't know. At least he got to be inducted to the HoF before it was too late. In the early 90s, as a kid, I had to go to the chiropractor regularly. I was wearing these WWF velcro shoes with a few decals of stars. My doc looks at them and tells us he went to chiropractor school with the Ultimate Warrior. I still think wrestling is real at this point, so I was confused. Next week, he shows us his college yearbook that had a pic of Warrior lifting, I think doing a curl of sorts.
  12. True, this was the place to pull the trigger with Paige. Almost thought Awesome Kong/Kharma was gonna come out at first as the color schemes of their TitanTrons are similar. I thought her reaction after winning was way too sudden after the count. Could have shown some stunned silence for a few secs, make it look less staged.
  13. Booking was awkward, esp. with AJ "beating" 13 women at WM then losing to an "unknown". However, anything to get the belt off AJ at this point is a plus in my book. I was so fucking tired of hearing the "longest reining Divas champion" crap. A belt that's like 5 years old, wow.
  14. Ha. Those toothpicks always had a good launch tho. I'm not saying Taker shouldn't or won't be inducted, they need to transition him and humanize him a little more before the day comes. Have they ever referenced his "Mean" Mark Callous days or anything before that? Would they?
  15. I wonder how Taker can be inducted in the HoF with the supernatural elements of his character still somewhat intact. I think there is a possibility that Taker may say "Thanks, but no thanks" to an induction. Him appearing at the HoF this weekend doesn't really clear things up, he was still in full character, didn't say anything. I know others have been inducted who were not eloquent speakers (in gimmick) like George Steele and Abdullah, but they were still human, albeit bizarre. Taker is a "zombie", hearing him talk about being trained and his pre-WWE days would seem odd. Don't know, we'll see.
  16. Nope, totally agree with you there. And if you didn't think the show was a work before the ending at Nattie's house last night, there's no reason not to think so now. (I'm sure everyone here knows, goes without saying, but you'd be surprised on the general fanbase.) Also, have they gone out of their way on this show to destroy Nattie's already limited sex appeal or what.
  17. Thought it was Dreamer in the WWE doc.
  18. They did put Thesz on that Top 50 Superstars of All-Time DVD a few years ago. You know, the one where Mr. Perfect was better than Hogan, Flair and Bruno (plus Thesz). So he may be on their radar. Not sure who would induct him or accept. BTW, seems like a lot of fans are butthurt b/c Undertaker doesn't go to the HoF ceremonies to not break character, and may not induct Bearer. Does anyone know if its Taker's choice to not attend the HoF or does WWE/Vince not allow him to attend? I just can't see WWE telling him not to go. And if it is Taker's choice, it really doesn't bother me, even with wrestling as "exposed" as it is. Gotta respect the man for wanting to keep some kayfabe alive.
  19. WWE's HoF roster calls Hennig, "Mr Perfect" Curt Hennig. I don't recall WWF completely shielding his real name in the 90s.
  20. This guy: http://www.notsam.com/ Sam Roberts was one of the talking heads on the Countdown show? Makes sense, he has some sort of "in" with WWE with all the interviews with current talent he puts up. I also think Sam looks like an 80s era Gary "U.S." Bonds.
  21. I get why they are inducting him as Razor, since WWE experience is weighted far more heavily than everything else. And maybe the induction video would have been tricky since sometimes WWE treats different gimmicks as different people, even if the same person played them, if that makes sense. But as Meltzer put it, when he was Razor, he was a mid to upper-mid card guy for around 3 years during WWF's lowest business run. Scott Hall has been in wrestling for around 30 years, and has used his real name as his ring name for a vast majority of that time, including from 1996 on. WWE is a corporate-run hall of fame. If the Observer HOF put him on the ballot (and I think they did one of the first years), he'd go in as Scott Hall. I hope that if WWE considers Madusa, they don't pull something similar and put her in as Alaundra Blayze.
  22. If you go here: http://news.google.com/newspapers you can search through the google newspaper archive, although they aren't adding anything. I'm not finding El Mundo in the library databases I have access to, but perhaps there are other Puerto Rico newspapers with match listings. I'll keep it in mind.
  23. Is it Russo? I know he was a talking head on the top 100 RAW moments DVD.
  24. Is it possible they may have licensed some footage from WWC so they could show more of Carlos than his 1993 Rumble entrance for the video? Still being an active promotion, not sure why they would sell the tape library.
  25. Probably a chance of zilch with this, but what about the library of a shoot interview company? Doesn't RF claim to have rights to a bunch of the ECW stuff?
