Gossett) HIGHLIGHTS/QUICK RECAP Charlie Platt announces there will be a 12 team battle royal tonight with the winning team getting an NWA World Tag Team title shot tomorrow in Woodstock, Alabama at Beach Brawl '85. He also announces that due to Joe LeDuc getting a the pin fall on Twin States Champion Ron Fuller last Saturday night here in Dothan, he will be challenging Ron Fuller for the Twin States Championship tonight and the winner of the match will not only be Twin States Champion but will also get an NWA World Championship against Magnum T.A. Match #1: Bota the Witch Doctor w/General Skandor Akbar pinned Shane Douglas after a diving headbutt Tonight, Bota will defend his U.S. Jr Heavyweight Championship in a four corners match against Larry Hamilton, Scott Armstrong, and making his Twin States debut, "Jumping" Joe Savoldi! =================== Match #2: "Wildcat" Wendell Cooley/"Cowboy" Johnny Mantell defeated The Hammer Brothers (Jack/Sledge) when Cooley pinned Jack with a running bulldog ------------------------------- After the commercial break- Robert Fuller/Jimmy Golden come out to the desk, Fuller has the left side of his face bandaged…..Fuller says he's back whether the doctors ok it or not and that he and Jimmy Golden will win that battle royal and get the shot at the NWA World Tag Team titles! But more importantly, they are going to get their hands on Barnes and Dundee in a tag team stretcher match and send them both to the hospital! ==================== Match #3: The Assassins (#1/#2) defeated Bobby/Rocky Ewing when Assassin #2 pinned Rocky Ewing after a powerslam Les Thatcher comes out and announces that not only will the Assassins and the Nightmares compete in the battle royal for the shot at the NWA World Tag Team titles…..but the Assassins will also get a shot at the Nightmares by way of their victory over the Nightmares last week….but Thatcher says let's put everyone's cards on the table…..it will be for the Twin States tag team titles but it will be 3 on 3! All three Assassins against all three Nightmares! ====================== Match #4: "Mad Dog" Buzz Sawyer/"Sadistic" Steve Strong/Angel of Death w/Ron Wright defeated George South/Hank Moody/Ronnie Jenkins when Sawyer pinned Moody after a splash off the top rope! These three continue to brutalize their opponents after the match until Bob & Brad Armstrong and Jimmy Valiant hit the ring and cleared house causing Ron Wright and company to take a powder Bullet Bob comes over to the desk and suggests "Since you boys think you're so tough….how about tonight the three of us….take on the three of you right down there at the Houston County Farm Center!" ======================= Charlie Platt tells us that we have a very special main event via video featuring the NWA World Champion Magnum T.A. defending against one half of the NWA World Tag Team Champions Larry Zbyzsko w/Roger Kent courtesy of NWA World Championship Wrestling so without further ado let's take you to our broadcast colleague Gordon Solie! Match #5: MAIN EVENT (From the 8/3/85 episode of NWA World Championship Wrestling) NWA WORLD TITLE MATCH: Magnum T.A.(c) vs Larry Zbyszko Give Zbyszko credit. This match is nothing like Magnum’s normal matches where he connects with the Belly to Belly in under a minute and walks away with the title. Larry is too smart for that and seems to be ready for everything T.A. throws at him. It really got dicey when you through in the fact that Roger Kirby and Harley Race came to the ring with Larry Z. At one point, when T.A. was wrestling from the top, it looked like Kirby and Race were making a plan to use their numbers to an advantage but Race seemed to shake Kirby off. Kirby shook his head yes and walked around the ring and jumped up on the apron. While this did distract the ref, nothing else seemed to happen. Kirby starts to yell at Race like Harley forgot the plan. Race points at Kirby as if to warn him not to cross the line again. WHAM…. Belly to Belly by T.A. on Larry Z. 1….2…3. As T.A. celebrates, Kirby tries sneaking up on the champ with the knunchuks. Gordon Solie: Wait a minute… Katie Bar the Door! Here comes Wahoo McDaniel and Stan Hansen. Hansen grabs the knunchuks from behind and starts to twirl them above his head. Chief and T.A. are now face to face with Kirby who looks like he has seen a ghost. Harley Race is heading to the locker room. A big right but Wahoo and Kirby is down. Kirby rolls under the bottom rope and he and Zbyszko head for the hills. Sorry folks. We are out of time.

Twin States Wrestling Episode #5 Saturday August 15, 1985 From the WTVY Ch. 4 Studio in Dothan, Alabama airing LIVE at Noon on WTVY Channel 4 and on tape on stations throughout Alabama and Mississippi at various times Host/Play by Play: Charlie Platt Co-Host/Color Commentator: Ronnie P. Gossett Interviewer/Ring Announcer: Rick Stewart (Show opens with a montage of classic Southeastern Wrestling footage with a voiceover saying "Welcome to Twin States Wrestling bringing you the best professional wrestling action from across Alabama and Mississippi sanctioned by the National Wrestling Alliance", we then go to our hosts Charlie Platt and Ronnie P. Gossett) HIGHLIGHTS/QUICK RECAP In the first segment, The Nightmares came out along with Ron Wright and bragged about beating the Invaders recently and declaring themselves the "Greatest Masked Tag Team in the history of wrestling"! This brought out the Assassins who didn't take kindly to this statement…..after some back and forth the Assassins challenged the Nightmares to a title match tonight…….the Nightmares say they haven't earned one….but they will give them a match tonight….and if the Assassins can beat them, they will get a title shot next week…..but if the Nightmares beat the Assassins they must immediately unmask! The Nightmares then laugh as Nightmare #1 says he can think of THREE reasons….the Assassins don't stand a chance! ------------------------ Match #1- The Assassins (#1/#2) defeated Ned Navarro/Sammy Hall when Assassin #2 pinned Hall after a powerslam =============== Brad Armstrong lays down a challenge to 'Sadistic' Steve Strong to take him tonight in a one on one match here in Dothan! ------------------------- Match #2- The Violent Gentlemen (Bill Dundee/George Barnes) w/General Skandor Akbar defeated Ronnie Jenkins/Randy Watson when Dundee pinned Jenkins after a 'Bombs Away' off the top rope Barnes says that Ron Fuller/Jimmy Golden are seeking revenge for them burning Robert Fuller last week….Dundee chimes in "Thanks to Bota the Witch Doctor for teaching us how to throw the fire". Barnes says if they want revenge so bad….then instead of fighting THEIR kind of match, the Southern Street Fight, this time we want OUR kind of match, an Australian Street Fight! Ron Fuller and Jimmy Golden storm the set…..Fuller says he doesn't know what the hell an Australian Street Fight is and they don't care….whatever the stipulation….sign the match and they'll kick their butts all the way back DOWN UNDER! ================== After the commercial break, "Bullet" Bob Armstrong comes out and says at long last he's been medically cleared and that after getting a win over Sawyer last week, Les Thatcher has granted him a Gulf Coast Championship match tonight here in and Dothan and to make sure that Ron Wright's "cronies" don't interfere it's going to be inside of a STEEL CAGE!! (The studio crowd roars at this announcement) =================== Match #3: "Dirty" Dutch Mantell pins Roy Munson after a reverse suplex (gourd buster) Ronnie Gossett approached Dutch after match and asked him his thoughts on being signed to take on Jerry Brisco tonight in a "Bullwhip on a pole" match. Mantell responds, "If Brisco is ignorant enough to take on "Dirty" Dutch Mantell in a bullwhip on a pole match then he's dumber than most people give him credit for and that's a helluva statement Ronnie because most folks know that even for an Indian Brisco is a flaming idiot. I'm gonna whip Brisco til he cries like I threw a dumpster full of trash on the side of the road! He doesn't stand a chance tonight!" ==================== Match #4: Scott Armstrong pinned Warren DeMontague following a superkick! Scott Armstrong says that since he and Larry Hamilton can't get anymore shots at the tag team titles even after getting screwed by this third Nightmare, he's getting a shot at the title that many people consider "his title" since he held the majority of last year and that's the US Jr title…..he's coming after Bota the Witch Doctor and he's going to take that title and then his sights are set on the NWA World Junior Heavyweight title. ===================== Match #5: MAIN EVENT "Sadistic" Steve Strong w/Ron Wright defeated Pvt. Great House Show Loops here! I got side tracked and forgot to mention in my TV feedback that I love that the DJ Peterson/Mr. Magnificent issue from WWF is being carried on here! Tiger Jeet Singh shows Carlos that he's subject to turn up anywhere at anytime! Having been on a roll so far in the USWA, Flowers just can't seem to get a handle on Myers....and he may have a mental breakdown before he figures it out! Dr. Dream Machine and Tommy Rich are a '"dream team" for me! Love that pairing and they manage to get the win here thanks to the "Memphis Mafia Man"....Could there a "Memphis Mafia" forming here?? Champagne continues his winning ways....I like it! Sweet Ebony Express get a great win but suffer a beatdown from the Lone Stars....I look forward to the rematch! Tui under the guidance of Leilani Kai is dangerous enough but with Rip Morgan added to the mix, they are going to be even more formidible moving forward! The Medics beat the Grapplers with an old school Grappler tactic.....perhaps the Grapplers may have to get back to their "evil" ways to beat the Medics. Man....if you would have told me a few weeks ago that I'd be excited for a Jerry Lawler vs. Greg Gagne match I would have told you that you were crazy....but here we are...two matches with Gagne where fans had to think going in that this new heel version of Gagne just might take the strap from the King.....Arnie is not going to take kindly to the post match action from Lawler!

Dr. Dream Machine kicks the show off in a huge way by running the Nightmare out of town and taking his mask!! Flowers gets another win with his innovative cutter finisher! The Sweet Ebony Express is a great new tag team but they're going to have their hands full with the Lone Stars! Steve O may be a super hero! I love it, can't wait to see where this goes The Richs feel unstoppable after running Cooley out of town....Lawler better watch his back now that they have their sights set on his title! The Vin Man pulls off the upset win in the battle royal and now has a shot at the King, Lawler better not underestimate this guy.

Twin States Wrestling Episode #1 Saturday July 25, 1985 From the WTVY Ch. Gossett) Platt: "Hello and welcome once again to Twin States Wrestling and we have a great show for you today as we head into a huge card tonight at the Houston County Farm Center as well as the Twin States Tag Team Title tournament tomorrow night in Gulfport, Mississippi." RPG: "You're lucky I'm even here today…..I'm still furious about last week…..that travesty that happened to Buzz Sawyer…and then the man who shouldn't have even been in the Twin States Championship tournament ended up winning it!" Platt: "Of course, Mr. Gossett is referring to the Tennessee Stud, Ron Fuller who won the tournament to become the first ever Twin States Champion…" (Before Platt can finish, George Barnes comes storming out) Barnes: "Nobody cares about that bloody yank, Ron Fuller…..I've got something huge to share with my good friend Ronnie Gossett!" Platt: "Mr. Barnes, we'll have you and Bota the Witch Doctor out here later…." RPG: "The brand new NWA U.S. Jr Champion Bota the Witch Doctor that is…." Platt: "Yes, he is the new champion…" Barnes: "Shut your mouth Charlie Platt…..I'm not out here to talk about Bota right now….I'm here to talk about the fact that after being here on the program last week and then going to all the towns with Bota….it got me fired up to get in the ring….and it got me fired up to win those Twin States Tag Team titles…..so I called my old friend and tag team partner….and told him to get his butt down to Alabama…and guess what Ronnie??" (From out of the curtain comes……..SUPERSTAR BILL DUNDEE!!) Dundee: "Hey Ronnie! Hey Georgie! (hugs Barnes) That's right baby, Georgie boy called me up out in PCW and said get down here to this Twin States outfit and we can rule this place just like old times…and here I am brother…..the Australians are ready to ride again….we're gonna win that tournament tomorrow and take those titles!" (Les Thatcher comes out) Thatcher: "Bill, it's great to have you here….you and George Barnes are one of the greatest teams to ever compete in the Southeast and throughout the world but The Assassins who will be debuting here later today took the last spot in the tag team title tournament." Barnes: "The Assassins…..the bloody Assassins haven't even been wrestling here, how do they get the spot?" Platt: "Well, you and Dundee haven't been wrestling here either." Dundee: "Shut your mouth Mr. Microphone…..what's your problem? Thatcher just said we're one of the greatest tag teams in the world, why wouldn't you want us in your tournament you goof?" Thatcher: "Listen, unless a team drops out….there's just not an open spot in the tournament." Dundee: "This is a bunch of bulls.." (Before Dundee can finish that sentence, Barnes whispers something to him and they smile and leave the desk) Platt: "Thank you Les, now let's go to the ring for the debut of 'Wildcat' Wendell Cooley!" ==================== MATCH #1: "Wildcat" Wendell Cooley pinned Fred Garvin with a running bulldog (Rick Stewart approaches Cooley as he's leaving the ring) Stewart: "Wendell, welcome back to Dothan!" Cooley: "Rick, it's darn sure good to be back here in Dothan and I'm looking to jump right into the fray here in Twin States Wrestling!" (Before Stewart can ask another question "Bad to the Bone" plays as Bob Armstrong comes out still sporting a neck brace followed by Brad Armstrong, Scott Armstrong, and Larry Hamilton….Bob shakes Cooley's hand) Bullet: "Pardon us Wendell….We're not trying to come out here and hijack the show like Barnes and Dundee…..but since you said you want to jump right into the fray….well we've got the opportunity for you to do just that. As you can tell by this brace around my neck…I'm still not cleared to wrestle yet…and tonight there's an 8 man tag team match with Buzz Sawyer, Angel of Death, and the Nightmares….against my two sons and our good friend Larry Hamilton but as you can see that leaves us one short and I would consider it a personal favor if you'd be their partner tonight here in Dothan." Cooley: "Bullet Bob….not only would I be happy to fight along side these three men…..but doing a favor for a man of your stature in this business….I'd consider it an honor….heck yeah, you can count on the 'Wildcat'!" Bullet: "I knew I could! Let's go talk some strategy." (The Armstrongs/Hamilton/Cooley all leave together) ==================== COMMERCIALS ==================== MATCH #2: The Assassins (#1/#2) defeated Ronnie Jenkins/Randy Watson when Assassin #2 pinned Jenkins after a shoulder breaker ==================== (Highlights are shown of the finals of the Twin States Championship Tournament with Ron Fuller defeating 'Killer' Tim Brooks w/Don Carson to win the Championship….Rick Stewart is then joined by "Tennessee Stud" Ron Fuller and his brother Robert Fuller) Ron: "Well, well Rick….take a look at this beautiful Twin States title belt (puts on Stewart's shoulder) Tonight, I've got to defend it against Joe LeDuc….I beat him in the tournament and I'm sure tonight I'll do it again…..that is if he doesn't get his legs broken by the figure four leglock of Jerry Brisco in today's main event here on television." (Robert grabs the mic) Robert: "I think ol' Jerry might just beat LeDuc here today and HE might end up challenging you there tonight but enough about that big brother……I told them Japanese boys last week that I was making a phone call they would regret….well I sure did and not only will the Japanese boys regret it, now everybody in that tag team title tournament will regret it because I picked up the phone and called our cousin…that's right…the one and only JIMMY GOLDEN!!" (Jimmy Golden comes out) Golden: "It's good to be back home in the south! Tonight, we're gonna beat the hell outta those Japanese guys and then tomorrow we're going to bring home the gold, baby!" Ron: "Let's get in that ring and show 'em what it's all about." --------------------------------- MATCH #3: Ron Fuller/Robert Fuller/Jimmy Golden defeated Buck Spivey/Bobby & Rocky Ewing when Golden pinned Rocky Ewing after a piledriver ===================== COMMERCIALS ===================== (Don Carson and the Violent Gentlemen- Art Crews/Ken Timbs join Ronnie P Gossett at the interview area) RPG: "Don Carson, these men have a chance to win the Twin States Tag Team Championship tomorrow in Gulfport, Mississippi." (Before Carson can respond, George Barnes and Bill Dundee come storming out) Barnes: "Now hold on Ronnie….while these men are in the tournament tomorrow….they don't have any chance of winning those belts." Dundee: "Of course not Georgie, these losers couldn't even beat the Batten Twins…much less win more than one match in the same day to win a tournament." Carson: "Come on guys….this is my team….they aren't that bad." Crews: "Not that bad…that's the best you can say to defend us?" Carson: "Well, it's not like you guys have done a lot of winning here lately." Barnes: "Let's tell it like it is Don Carson….you picked a couple of losers…you gave them a cool name and come cool outfits but they can't live up to your hype." Dundee: "They do have a cool name….that should be our name Georgie…..we're much more violent gentlemen than these two losers!" Crews: "We're not losers!" Dundee: "Well, it's not hard to SAY that…..but if you're really not losers….why don't you prove it?" Crews: "How?" Barnes: "Face us…tonight in Dothan….unless you losers are scared?!?" Crews: "We aren't scared of anyone….least of all some Australian midgets!" Dundee: "Australian midgets huh? Well then I'm sure you won't mind making this interesting then. How about this? If you beat us, we'll go back to Australia and never come back to the U.S. If we beat the two of you….WE get your name the Violent Gentlemen…AND…we get your spot in the title tournament." Barnes: "and we get your manager." Timbs: "That's crazy Crews, we don't agree to that." Dundee: "Spoken like a true LOSER! Exactly what I expected! Afraid of a couple of Australian midgets!" Crews: "You're on! We accept!!" Barnes: "Perfect! See you yanks tonight!" (Barnes and Dundee leave) Carson: "Well boys, don't be like John Tatum….you better back it up tonight….either way I leave with winners….and then I'm going to leave as the manager of the brand new Twin States Champion, Joe LeDuc!! If you don't believe me….watch what he does to Jerry Brisco in this ring today!" ===================== MATCH #4: NWA U.S. Jr. Champion Bota the Witch Doctor w/Barnes & Dundee pinned "Little" Ned Navarro with a diving headbutt from the 2nd rope ===================== COMMERCIALS including tonight's card at the Houston County Farm Center Twin States Wrestling Houston County Farm Center Dothan, AL. I'm fine with whatever everybody wants to do, this isn't a battle I'm going to choose but as far as the argument of pushing people too soon that happens with 90% of the rookie draft wrestlers in the game...guys like Rick Rude have been used like he was 1989 Rick Rude right of the gate when he was still Rick Rood the jobber in real life. Kokina was being used as "Yokozuna" in his first six months when in real life he would have still been smaller than Samu ever was and there's literally a hundred more examples of that. Not using that as an argument of any sort but just saying if that's going to be a big consideration in decision making then we all need to keep that in mind on how we use people in the time period.

I would agree with the 'finders keepers" rule.....obviously no one was missing him so I'd say it's only fair. Plus if we officially make a "finders keepers" rule....everyone will be more motivated to do research and make sure we have everyone possible at our disposal. Just my 2 cents.
