Lutte Internationale TV
Taped at CHLT-TV, Sherbrooke, QC
August 11th, 1984
(After the opening credits, we go to the broadcast booth as Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier are waiting in front of their desk for the show to start)
Guy Hauray: Hello, wrestling fans, and welcome to this week’s edition of Lutte Internationale TV. Everyone’s still reeling from the shocking ending of last week’s show when WWF’s “Cowboy” Bob Orton & “Dirty” Dick Slater were revealed as the Masked Cowboys after being unmasked by the Rougeau Brothers in the main event.
Édouard Carpentier: Indeed, Guy, no one expected Orton & Slater to come here, especially after bolting from the territory when Frank Valois bought Big Time Wrestling from Detroit and moved it to Montreal. We have no idea why Orton & Slater have targeted the Rougeau Brothers but we should have an answer tonight as I understand since they’ve taped a message we’re gonna show you in a few moments.
Guy Hauray: Since we’re in the subject, we should take this opportunity to announce who will represent the World Wrestling Federation for the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup in a little over 2 weeks. We can confirm that Bob Orton & Dick Slater will both represent WWF in the tournament but they will be accompanied by Randy “Macho Man” Savage and one half of the Hart Foundation, Bret Hart!
Édouard Carpentier: And here is the message that Orton & Slater taped right after we went off the air last week.
*******EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE*********
(Cut to the taped video as Orton & Slater are sitting in an empty locker room, still in their Masked Cowboys gear. Both have a huge smile on their faces)
Bob Orton: I know that a lot of people are wondering what the heck are we doing here while we don’t even work in Montreal but allow us to enlighten you a bit. You see, it never was our plan to go to WWF from the start. When Frank Valois bought the Detroit territory and moved it to Montreal, we figured that Dick and I would just go up there and raise some hell like we did down there. But then, we learned that the Rougeaus were coming back home from Central States and they were going to headline the territory. Which was fine by us. We love some competition. But then, we got a phone call from Frank Valois telling us that he had to make room for the Rougeaus on the roster and he was letting us go. Trust me, we didn’t like it one bit because if you ask everyone around, we were THE best tag team in Detroit. And we were hellbent on proving it once we got here.
Dick Slater: But because Montreal wanted to do favours for their hometown boys, this couldn’t happen. But everyone that knows Orton & Slater know that we wouldn’t take this lying down and that’s exactly what we did. The best way for us to exact revenge on the Rougeaus was to take away the most important moment of their lives. So we got to the Montreal Forum, we put those Masked Cowboys masks on and we did what we had to do to make a statement. The Rougeaus took something from us, we took something from then. Tit for tat. And we don’t regret a damn thing about it.
Bob Orton: And then, we heard that Frank Valois was booking a tournament to honor the late uncle of the Rougeaus at the end of August. That’s another opportunity we couldn’t pass up. We begged Vince McMahon to send us here. We don’t beg for much but we want in this tournament so bad. And we also pray that either one of those Rougeau boys will be in our bracket because it’s gonna make things even sweeter. We’re in this tournament and we’re gonna make sure you ain’t winning it.
Dick Slater: Trust us boys...we’re gonna make sure you wish you never came back here.
(Back to the arena, Guy & Édouard are now seated at their desk)
Guy Hauray: Orton & Slater made it clear: they felt slighted by the arrival of the Rougeau family to Lutte Internationale and want to exact revenge on them.
Édouard Carpentier : And they did a very good job in doing that. I’ve rarely seen the Rougeaus in this frame of mind. Imagine if they cross paths in the tournament now.
Guy Hauray: We’ll have to wait for the tournament to see this but we’re ready for action so let’s get things started.

Match #1
The Kay Brothers vs The Oates Brothers
A battle of two teams in the lower part of the tag team division totem pole. The match has been underway for a few moments when all of a sudden, Dennis Condrey, Randy Rose & Adrian Adonis charge the ring and attack the Oates Brothers! Referee Luigi Macera immediately calls off the match and awards it to The Oates Brothers
Winners: The Oates Brothers by DQ
(Condrey, Rose & Adonis are pounding on both teams and Adonis throws Randy Kay outside. While Condrey & Rose are beating up on the Oates Brothers, we then see none other than Jim Cornette waltz on the set with his trademark tennis racket and cheering on his team. Adrian Adonis whips Rudy Kay head first into the broadcast booth and then gets back in the ring. Dennis Condrey and Randy Rose double team Jerry Oates and hits the Double Flapjack on him. Then, while Adrian Adonis locks in a sleeperhold on Bobby Kay, Condrey & Rose set up Ted Oates and hit the Rocket Launcher on him. Jim Cornette gets in the ring and celebrates with the trio. Then, Cornette steps out of the ring and goes to the broadcast booth with Édouard Carpentier is waiting to interview them.)
Édouard Carpentier: Jim Cornette, what are you doing here in Montreal???
Jim Cornette: What am I doing here? Are you kidding me? This is the territory that everyone is talking about in the wrestling world and you expect me to stay on the sidelines? Oh, no, no, no, you don’t know Jim Cornette very well then. I’m here to introduce Lutte Internationale to the most dangerous and lethal wrestling combination you’ll ever find on God’s Green Earth: “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey, “Ravishing” Randy Rose and “Adorable” Adrian Adonis. I give to you THE MIDNIGHT EXPRESS!
Édouard Carpentier: What are you looking to accomplish here?
Jim Cornette: Are you that dumb, old man? What do you think we’re here to do? We’re not sightseeing here. We’re here to be the most dominant tag team in professional wrestling. We’ve heard about the Rougeau Brothers. We’ve heard about the Wild Samoans, we’ve heard about the Caribbean Connection, about Frenchy’s Legion and we just wanna join in on the fun! It ain’t a party until you have the Midnight Express invited to that party. And since Lutte Internationale is the place to party, we’ve decided to establish ourselves here. I have all the respect in the world for Eddy Creatchman but he better not think for a second that we will hesitate to take those International Tag Team Championships away from them. Loverboy Dennis & Ravishing Randy are two of the finest tag team wrestlers there is and they can beat any team on any given night and we’re gonna prove it to everyone. And as for Adorable Adrian, well, I looked at Gino Brito’s International TV Championship and I thought it would look oh so much more better around Adrian Adonis’ gorgeous waist. I’m perfectly aware that Gino Brito is set to defend his title against David Schultz next month but don’t think for a split second that we won’t be watching this carefully because Adrian Adonis has his eyes set on dethroning Gino Brito as the International TV Champion. And trust me, once Loverboy Dennis & Ravishing Randy win the International Tag Team Championship and Adorable Adrian becomes the new International TV Champion, there will be no denying that I, James E. Cornette, am the smartest & best manager in the entire wrestling world!
(Jim Cornette leaves with his Midnight Express trio and goes back to the locker room)
Guy Hauray: There you have it, Jim Cornette has brought his Midnight Express to Lutte Internationale and he brought an extra member with him in Adrian Adonis. Do you think he will be successful?
Édouard Carpentier: Nothing beats a motivated stable or tag team. Jim Cornette’s men are very hungry and once they’re put in the ring with our top tag teams, this is sink or swim time. We’ll see what the Midnight Express is made of.
Guy Hauray: Later tonight in our main event, Rick Martel will square off with one half of the International Tag Team Champions Sika but when we come back, Billy Robinson is in action!

Match #2
Doug Somers (w/Sherri Martel & Eddie Gilbert) vs Billy Robinson
Following the events of last week in which Somers left with Sherri Martel & Eddie Gilbert following his loss to King Tonga, Sherri & Hotstuff are at ringside with him in his match vs the British veteran. Somers seems a bit overmatched at first against Robinson but with the guidance of Sherri & Gilbert, Doug Somers is able to mount some nice offensive series. Towards the end of the match, Billy Robinson is fully in control and is about to lock a bearhug on Somers to win the match when Eddie Gilbert & Sherri Martel climb on the ring apron. Robinson lets go of Somers but instead of going after Sherri & Gilbert, Robinson decides to get out of the ring and goes for the timekeeper’s chair. Robinson slides back in the ring and is about to hit Somers with the chair when Dino Bravo slides in the ring behind Robinson and takes the chair away from him. Bravo returns on the ring apron and jawjacks with Robinson, allowing Somers to roll up Robinson for the victory! Doug Somers is stunned that he was able to get the victory but Sherri Martel & Eddie Gilbert celebrate with him and the trio leaves together. Meanwhile, Dino Bravo still has the chair in hand and invites Robinson to fight but Robinson wants no part of Bravo and he decides to retreat to the locker room instead.
Winner: Doug Somers

(Back from the break, Guy & Édouard are waiting at the broadcast booth)
Guy Hauray: Before we head to the ring for our International TV Championship match, we will now announce who will represent Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling in the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. And Eddie, we have quite the experimented contingent sent by Jim Crockett to represent their territory.
Édouard Carpentier: Yes, Guy. We can now confirm that Nikolai Volkoff, Larry Zbyszko, Superstar Billy Graham and Barry Windham will be representing Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling in 2 weeks. You have to believe that Barry Windham has to be considered one of the favourites to win the whole tournament. He’s been breathing down NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair’s neck for a long time now and anyone who can stand toe-to-toe with the Nature Boy has to be highly regarded.
Guy Hauray: I couldn’t agree with you more, Eddie. Barry Windham is an elite athlete in this sport with a bright future ahead of him. Winning the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup would be a huge feather in his cap. So until then, we shall get to the ring for our next match!

Match #3
International TV Championship
George “The Animal” Steele (w/Frenchy Martin & “Dr. D.” David Schultz) vs Gino Brito ©
With his September 13th opponent at ringside in the corner of the Animal, Gino Brito is extra cautious every time he goes near Frenchy’s corner. As expected, Gino Brito’s quickness allows him to gain the momentum early but eventually, George Steele’s brute force is too much to handle for the champion and Steele is in complete control. Frenchy Martin is directing traffic and Dr. D takes one or two cheapshots whenever he can on Brito. George is setting up Brito for an hammerlock bodyslam but somehow, Brito gets one arm free and is able to morph Steele’s move into a small package and secure the victory to retain his championship.
Winner and still champion: Gino Brito
(Dr D wastes no time and takes the International TV Championship belt from the timekeeper and connects with Brito’s head. The champ goes down and he seems busted open. Schultz continues his attack on the champion while George Steele & Frenchy Martin keeps the officials at bay. Eventually, David Schultz has done enough damage to his liking and poses with the International TV Championship before leaving the ring with George Steele and Frenchy Martin. Referee Luigi Macera checks on Gino Brito and he finally is able to leave the ring.)

(Before the main event, Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier are standing in front of their desk, alongside the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup trophy)
Guy Hauray: Almost time for our main event but before we go there, it’s time to announce the 4 men who will represent the USWA for the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup and Eddie, this is probably the most impressive contingent we will have in the tournament.
Édouard Carpentier: Fritz Von Erich has decided to send the big guns to represent his territory. We’ve learned that Dusty Rhodes, “Hacksaw” Butch Reed, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy & Kerry Von Erich will be coming to Montreal from August 27 to August 29 and try to win this prestigious trophy.
Guy Hauray: We know how proud the Von Erichs are, especially Kerry, and this pride also spreads throughout the entire territory. All 4 of these men could easily come out victorious and bring back to Texas the $100,000 check for themselves. Next week, the 2 final territories, Pacific Northwest in Portland and Smokey Mountain Wrestling in Tennessee, will reveal their representatives to close the field. But now, let’s go to the ring for our main event.

Match #4
Rick Martel vs Sika (w/Eddy “The Brain” Creatchman)
A highly contested affair in this main event with both men at the top of their game. Martel obviously not fully recovered from his rib injuries at the end of Samu a few weeks back and Sika is working on those ribs as well as the neck area. During the match, International Heavyweight Champion Greg Valentine makes his way to the broadcast desk and watches the match. Sika has things well into hands but one missed 2nd rope headbutt gives Martel time to recover. Valentine gets closer to the ring as he sees Martel coming back in the match. Rick Martel is able to secure the match away from Sika with a superb top rope cross body block to get the pinfall victory.
Winner: Rick Martel
(After the match, Greg Valentine approaches the ring but Rick Martel immediately steps outside, which prompts Valentine to back up a bit. Rick Martel asks for Guy Hauray’s mic and Guy obliges)
Rick Martel: Valentine, tu me demandais comment ça allait l’autre jour?
(Translation : Valentine, you asked me the other day how I was feeling? As you can see, I’m doing real fine. I’m not 100% yet but on September 13th, at the Montreal Forum, I will be. And I’m intending on taking that title away from you on that night. I’m waiting for you on September 13th, my friend!)
(The show ends as Rick Martel stares a hole at Greg Valentine while Valentine is just looking back at Martel, seemingly angry that he’s still willing to go after his title again.)
