Tommy Rich being on the payroll does change up things a little bit though I doubt it will keep him from interfering and attacking Dirty Dick. Looking forward to the tag match in two weeks. Should be a real slobberknocker. Rogers/Street continues on it's path. With Teri in Rip's corner, it is hard to see Street as the face here. Just throwing this out there ... IF ... you need additional teams for the tag tournament, "the other" promotion in our neck of the woods would be more than happy to send their champions.

The Cheetah Kid lost the title?!?!? Say it isn't so and to Brookside of all people? With a light heavy line-up like you have and Brookside wins? NO!!!!! As soon as I read "Neighborhood of Evil", Mr. Rogers theme music started to play in my head.

All you have to do is sell the big show. Not much thinking to be done at that point as all the work has already been put in. All the celebrities look MINUS REO Speedwagon. UGH! Not the best choice of musical talent. The show itself is going to be a good one. Would not be surprised if one or more title changes hands.

In any case, he's not doing it! They are joined by Brian Knighton which seems to anger the Champ. Knighton is very polite as he talks about the Piledriver in Memphis as well as the DDT both moves that have been labeled as lethal and banned in some territories ... what isn't talked about is the Arkansas Whiplash which Bert goes on to explain is Bill Ash's Rear Flying Chinlock ... He is cut off by Ash who tells him that he doesn't know what he's asking for ... the most lethal move in all of professional wrestling before storming off! The fans cheer as Buddy Lee sends us to a commercial break! x-x-x-x-x COMMERCIAL BREAK x-x-x-x-x We return to the program with Bert and Buddy joined by Jamie Dundee, Bruno Spazzinsky and Dark Journey. Dundee is carrying a gift wrapped box which Bert asks about. Jamie and Bruno talk about "the gift" that is a long time coming as they have been kind of hard on the refined lady that Dark Journey is. She is surprised by the gift but is hesitant to open it for fear of it blowing up or something. Both men swear on thier lives that it is all on the up and up. She opens it and pulls out a new pair of overalls. They laugh along with the fans until the Arkansas Terrors come out. Dundee and Bruno are ready for a fight but the Terrors are here only to talk. They are ready to end this once and for all so they have a proposal ... since they have a match for the 4th of July, if the Terrors win, they get Dark Journey back early. All bets are off on the 3 month stipulation. And if Jamie and Bruno win? The Terrors say they can KEEP HER FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR! Weiss attacks from behind to get things started and puts the boots to the man which draws the ire of the fans. IT'S THE CUBAN ASSASSIN AND HE ATTACKS THE AMERICAN FROM BEHIND! THE CUBAN MADMAN PUTS THE BOOTS TO THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE ... IT'S CODY MICHAELS TO THE RESCUE! International Pro Wrestling 6-17-1988 ASU Armory Jonesboro, Arkansas The Jonesboro Armory played host to a heated evening of professional wrestling , both figuratively and literally. The ladies kicked off the action as Oliver Humperdink's Lock and Luna were victorious over Debbie T. Wild and Brandy Mae. Sean David Baxter rolled up Oliver Humperdink, Cody Michaels outwrestled Brian Knighton, Jamie Dundee and Bruno Spazzinsky won over the Arkansas Terrors in a Scaffold Match, Tojo Yamamoto and the New Guinea Head Hunter took the Best of Seven Series to three matches over two against Reno Riggins and Dancing Wolf and Bill Ash successfully defended his title against Pat Rose by disqualification. 1. Lock and Luna were a sight to see, unlike anything seen in these (or most parts for that matter). Savage animals were controlled by a shrewd Oliver Humperdink. 2. Youngster Baxter showed he could actually wrestle taking the match totally by surprise when he rolled up Humperdink. 3. Thoroughly outwrestled, Knighton beaned Cody Michaels with a chair afterwards. 4. An entertaining match, Dundee and Spazzinsky saw their value rise with another victory over their nemesis. Several attempts but no real success to speak of, Dark Journey was kepy in check by being left on the "ground floor". 5. The Best of Seven Series saw Tojo Yamamoto and the New Guinea Headhunter move forward to the win and break the 2-2 tie that was in place before the match. When the smoke cleared, Dancing Wolf needed help to get to the back. 6. In a reversal of things, Champion Bill Ash retained his title by Disqualification of all things when the ref called the match after seeing the challenger, Pat Rose standing over a prone Ash, holding a chain.

Great continued build towards the 4th of July show. Four matches already in the queue and most likely a rematch of today's Main Event with a healthy JYD involved. That's already a big show but I would imagine there is more to come. Good stuff going on here.

Loni Anderson has just made the TV title match the most exciting one in the card! Warrior will have his work cut out for him against Haystacks. Can't wait to see who gets lippy with Tex Cobb!

What's the rule on using Jackie Fargo for appearances? Does he need to be added to the roster for a couple of appearances?

Sir Oliver doesn't want to talk about has-beens and he certainly doesn't want to talk about what ifs. What he wants to talk about is not having a match tonight at the ASU Armory! The two go back and forth trading near pinfalls with the fans solidly behind Bruno. The Terror gets the upperhand but Bruno with the comeback is able to put his man down with a swinging neckbreaker. After the match, Champion Bill Ash makes his way out to a chorus of boos. He tells them all to shut up which only makes them louder. Ash complains about having to continuously defend his title against a man who clearly can't beat him. How many times does he have to face Pat Rose before someone new ... They are joined by Brian Knighton which seems to anger the Champ. Knighton is very polite as he tells Ash that he has something that Knighton wants ... He is cut off by Ash who tells him that describes everyone in the locker room. Buddy Lee reminds Bert that Brian had already aligned himself with one snake in Dark Journey ... Buddy Lee tries to get everything under control as he starts talk about our Main Event! Last week we simply ran out of time but today, we try this one more time! Match #2 Mountain Lou versus Cowboy Tony No winner last week, so they will do it one more time. A friendly handshake to start the match and they are off. Tony tries to take the big man off his feet but is barely able to move him with several running shoulders. Test of Strength follows and Lou is able to move Tony around the ring until they get to the ropes for a clean break. Drop toe hold puts Lou down and Tony gets to work. Low drop kick puts Lou down again before applying a single leg crab but the big guy gets the ropes and forces a break. Lou with a big slap to the chest drops the Cowboy to a knee. With a hand around the throat, Lou lifts Tony off his feet ... DOUBLE GOOZLE ... NO! TONY SLIPS FREE WHEN Lou stumbles forward. A boot to the back of the knee takes Lou off his feet before Tony throws himself back against the ropes ... shoots forward with a running boot to the face. Quick scramble and Tony wraps up the knee ... FIGURE FOUR IS LOCKED IN AND MOUNTAIN LOU IS FURIOUSLY TAPPING OUT! Tony helps a now limping Lou to his feet where they shake hands once again! BOMB'S AWAY! Dundee and Keirn getting the #1 Seed sent everyone home happy. As if Slater wasn't mad enough at Tommy Rich, Wildfire had to go impersonating old ladies and make like El Kabong!

July 4th is shaping up nicely with just those 4 matches. I'm thinking Eddie is going to need a little help and he'll get it in winning the TV Title. He's not the biggest or the strongest guy, nor is he the best wrestler but his head is in the game and knows what needs to be done to win and having Missy in your corner doesn't hurt. Medusa was a looker. Doesn't hurt that she can actually wrestle. Perhaps DiBiase is seeing the error of his ways, putting too much control in the hands of others? Time to ditch all of the heavy baggage ... Kassie, I'm looking at you and rely just on his wrestling prowess.

If Dusty didn't blade, I think everyone in the arena would have been disappointed.

Pre-taping Match Plowboy Frazier defeats the Ninjas International Pro Wrestling Excited Voiceover: You are watching International Pro Wrestling from the KAIT Channel 8 television studios! Wrestling action whizzes by quickly over music, showing the stars of International Pro Wresting. Drop kick here, monkey flip there, big swinging neck breaker there. When the music comes to a stop, the camera pans the studio and the loud studio audience ready for some wrestling action! Buddy Lee and Bert Prentice welcome everyone to International Pro Wrestling's exciting "Power Half Hour! They talk about today's show As Reno Riggins and Dancing Wolf continue their Best of Seven Series with Tojo Yamamoto and the New Guinea Head Hunter and try to even things up at 2-2. A loss here would put Tojo in the driver's seat and be an almost impossible hill to climb! Bert's got his fingers AND toes crossed here for Reno and Dancing Wolf. They discuss the rules of the match as "Come as you are" with no disqualifications or countouts but don't who exactly that favors? Tojo Yamamoto has introduced the kendo stick several times to deadly effectiveness! Our hosts have been joined by Brian Knighton who demands to be heard. Buddy Lee and Bert Prentice try to steer the conversation towards Dark Journey, Knighton's manager who for the next 90 days with Jamie Dundee and Bruno Spazzinsky but Knighton's not here to talk about her, what he wants to talk about is the unfinished business he has with Cody Michaels who he still owes a beating or two. Bert wants to know what's different now than all the times he's faced and lost to Michaels? Hold on! It's the Commissioner Rip Tyler. Tyler has no problem getting a match signed between him and Cody Michaels. The two have gone round and round before and if Knighton wants to face Michaels again and Michaels agrees to the match ... it is on next Saturday night at the ASU Armory in Jonesboro. NOW ... can we get on with the program? Buddy Lee throws it to a commercial! x-x-x-x-x COMMERCIAL BREAK x-x-x-x-x We go to the ring for our first match ... Match #1 Reno Riggins & Dancing Wolf versus Tojo Yamamoto & the New Guinea Head Hunter. Joining our hosts is #1 Contender Pat Rose. Discussion about the match and rules before getting into things with Rose and his chase of Champion Bill Ash. Rose says he's been chasing Ash all over Arkansas dishing it out but the coward is continually getting himself disqualified. Bert is sure, one of these days Pat Rose will get his hands on Ash and pin him to the mat 1! 2! 3! Very active and stiff match for TV with no one holding back. Bert and Pat both throw their support to Riggins and Dancing Wolf. We even skip the usual commercial break time to give the combatants the alloted 20 minutes of uninterrupted time. The kendo stick finally makes its appearance. Reno Riggins is able to duck out of the way and come back with a boot to Tojo's head. Riggins with the pin attempt while Dancing Wolf with the diving tomhawk chop cuts off the Head Hunter. The series goes tied up 2-2. The fans cheer as Buddy Lee sends us to a commercial break! x-x-x-x-x COMMERCIAL BREAK x-x-x-x-x We return to the program with Bert and Buddy talking about the match and things being all tied up at 2 apiece. It is anyone's two matches to win at this point! We are now at TV Time Limit remaining ... Match #2 Mountain Lou versus Cowboy Tony Not a lot of time remaining but the two do their best to get the most at that time and to get a finish. Better than usual showing for Lou but the two go back and forth until there is no time left and no winner! The fans cheer as Buddy Lee and Bert Prentice with a big thank you and a reminder to join us next week for more International Pro Wrestling action!

If you tune in to see Dutch Mantell get his, you hit the jackpot with this week's TV. Dutch got fined not once but twice for a cool $1000 AND lost a match against Bill Dundee as well as took a couple of cracks from Shoo Baby. Throw in the fact that he isn't in the tag tournament yet, it's a bad day for Dutch. June 19th show is looking good. Going to make the fans very happy. Good stuff here as always in Memphis.

If Don Bass is going to get anywhere, I think he needs to move on from Cyrus. Pritchard and Morgan continue to trade wins. If things escalate as their feud continues, Morgan will be favored as they step into gimmick matches. If I was Jimmy Garvin, I'd bail too. Not going to wait around for Ronnie to illegally mar that face with a punch!

Pre-taping Match In ladies action, newcomer Luna defeated Debbie T. Wild. International Pro Wrestling Excited Voiceover: You are watching International Pro Wrestling from the KAIT Channel 8 television studios! They are slightly taken aback by the match they just saw between the ladies! The ferocity of this Luna was unbelievable ... Our hosts have been joined by Oliver Humperdink and two women he has on leashes. Oliver Humperdink: What you just witnessed was something very few people in the world have seen ... my Luna given free reign to do as she will inside the squared circle. Mark my words, you have just seen a small sampling of what my Lock and what my Luna are capable of! The House of Humperdink has arrived and IPW will never be the same! Humperdink pulls the two along as he walks away leaving Buddy Lee and Bert talking about the women. Getting his composure, Buddy Lee talks about what we have in store today as the Renesto Brothers will be in tag team action as they take on the Arkansas Terrors! In our Main Event, we have The American going one-on-one with the Cuban Assassin! Buddy Lee throws it to a commercial! x-x-x-x-x COMMERCIAL BREAK x-x-x-x-x We go to the ring for our first match ... Match #1 The Renestos versus Arkansas Terrors Joining our hosts are Jamie Dundee and an overall wearing Dark Journey who looks anything but happy. Bert with a sarcastic remark to Dark Journey about her looking well is met with a sharp stare. While the Terrors go right on the attack, it only takes the Renestos a couple of minutes to get on the same page and work like a well oiled machine. Dundee thinks once the Renestos work out the kinks, they will be one of the top tag teams here in the IPW. Dark Journey thinks right behind her Terrors. Double suplex is followed Tim Renesto with a leg drop off the top rope for the win as the Boys put away the Terrors. After everyone leaves, it is a head bandaged Reno Riggins storms out and is fit to be tied. He wants a match right here, right now against Tojo Yamamoto and the New Guinea Head Hunter! Angry and animated with spit flying everywhere, Riggins has to be held back by his partner, Dancing Wolf as Buddy Lee brings the fans up to date with the Best of Seven Series and Tojo's team being up 2-1 ... Commissioner Rip Tyler comes out to calm the situation. Tyler understands what Riggins is feeling but there will be no match between the two teams this week ... matches have already been signed for the program ... BUT ... what he can do is sign a match for next week ... right here on TV. Instead of the usual 10 minutes of time, he is going to allow a 20 minute time limit ... AND ... come as you are! Tojo's been a little too free with his kendo stick, so this will equalize things just a little. No disqualifications, no countouts ... The fans cheer as Buddy Lee sends us to a commercial break! x-x-x-x-x COMMERCIAL BREAK x-x-x-x-x We return to the program with Bert and Buddy talking about next week's program and Reno Riggins' match. Reno and Dancing Wolf will have a chance to even things up in the series as the violence appears to be escalating. No love lost here between the two teams vying for the tag team titles! Match #2 Cuban Assassin versus The American The loudest cheers and the most prolific booing in the show. The Assassin comes out waving a Cuban flag in the ring before The American makes his way to the ring. It is one before the bell rings as the Assassin attacks The American sliding into the ring. The Cuban Assassin on the rampage before The American fights his way back into things. Several arm drags and a drop kick sends the Cuban Assassin out of the ring and The American follows, continuing the fight. The American rolls back into the ring but is pulled back out and is attacked again. He gets run into the ring post before the Cuban slides back into the ring to break the count. The American is able to get back into the ring and fights his way back, going back and forth with the Assassin for control. Several near pinfalls by The American before the Cuban Assassin retrieves his flagpole and starts swinging it around. When he hits The American with it, the referee calls for the bell, disqualifying him from the match. The American has won the match but not in the way he wants to. The Assassin chases after the referee before being run off by The American. The fans cheer as Buddy Lee and Bert Prentice with a big thank you and a reminder to join us next week for more International Pro Wrestling action!

Poor Kyle Farnsworth got the beat out of him. I have to say, that made me laugh. Not what I was expecting to read. Rhodes and Race in a Texas Death Match should be good.
-
I am surprised Dr. Death beat DiBiase and is the new North American champion. Figured this would go on for some time. New we get to see Steve Williams chased. Should be interesting how Ted and Kassie spin it.
-
Jerry Lynn versus Chris Candido in 1988 is a pretty good match up if allowed enough time to work. If not, just wait 10 or so years. Cheetah Kid's time might be getting closer to running out. One-on-one, he's held off all challenges but 3-on-1, he isn't going to last too much longer with the belt.
-
IPW would like to sign Sean David Baxter (https://www.wrestlingdata.com/index.php?befehl=bios&wrestler=4649). Son of The Wrestling Pro, seems to have disappeared from the business at the end of 1988.

Arena Reports from Pro Wrestling Illustrated June 1988 Issue ASU Armory (Jonesboro, AR) Brandy Mae defeated Prissy Purcell ... Bruno Spazzinsky and Plowboy Frazier beat The Arkansas Terrors ... Jamie Dundee won over Brian Knighton ... Pat Rose and Bill Ash went to a double countout ... Tojo Yamamoto and the New Guinea Head Hunter went to 2-1 with the win over Reno RIggins and Dancing Wolf.
-
Big show with lots of good matches as well as a couple of title changes. A bit surprised at the fan reaction to the Savage/Steamboat ending. While I am sure that Savage has his fans, how could anyone be angry that Steamboat retained. There was no pin or submission and babyface Steamboat is loved by everyone ... I guess not with this crowd. Thought Rhodes and team would be victorious but was a bit surprised that Race was the sacrificial lamb and not one of the underlings but I guess a big show needs a big ending, so we have that here.
-
I always questioned Ronnie Garvin's Hands of Stone punch as a finisher. Closed fist = illegal so how can you win with that? Yet, he did for years. I would not want to be the guy on the bottom of the three stacked guys squished by Kamala. A sight to see, I am sure. Was always a Jimmy Garvin fan though thought he could have done better than Precious. Ronnie being family makes it all more personal. Good stuff here. Nightmares going full heel thanks to Paul Jones. At least that may put them in line for matches with the R-n-R Express.

I remember Jeff Gaylord well from his Texas days. Big guy not much else going for him in my opinion. The Missouri Tiger football thing was mentioned time and again. Was always a follower or team muscle so it fits well here that he's a "bodyguard" for Dutch. Adrian Street in Memphis is an interesting case and not going to be the heel with Rip Rogers and Dutch Mantel in his sights. That should be a lot of fun. While Adrian is heads and shoulders the better (or should I say more successful wrestler irl) of the two, I am giving Terri Power the nod over Miss Linda who was an actual trained wrestler. Terry Gordy still has some good years ahead of him as of 1988 and seems to be running roughshod over whoever is put in front of him. He has to go looking for some gold which puts that target on Buddy Landel. Slater with a bounty on Tommy Rich does not bode well for Wild Fire. I see a long and bloody summer between these two.
