It may have just been an observation from Meltz. I wouldn't read too much into the leg drop until we see the match and see if it was called for in the context of the match.

I've been struggling with this topic. I have a few wrestlers I wanted to mention but want to clarify something. Is this the best match a wrestler had that year or matches that would be considered MOTY's by a particular westler? If it the former, which is how most people are treating it, i'll repsond soon enough. If it is the latter, then most of the matches here do not deserve recognition as MOTYs.

Do you think he will go to SD! and feud with Cena when the TV indicates that Christian is going to get that spot? Do you think this could just be a smokescreen from the Fed?
-
Spoilers will be included as I post spoilers from the Meltz: Spoilers Ahead!!! Warning.... OK, one last chance to turn back.....

This fucking rocks. We need to move quickly on the Reviews folder Loss.

I'll add to that by requesting Undertaker vs. Underfaker from Summerslam.

Was any of WCW's success based on the undercard?

As a follow-up, here are some of the things Meltzer mentions on the Nitro era of WCW from the March 26, 2001 Observer. As I get free time, I'll continue posting parts of the story... Nitro the signing of Kevin Nash and Scott hall, and the creation of the NWO led WCW to its glory period. There are both realities and myths of this period. The myth is that the NWO turned around the TV ratings. Surely, they led to the 83-week win streak, but Nitro debuted on September 4, 1995 at the Mall of America in Minnesota, going unopposed (Raw was pre-empted for the U.S. Open) and drew a 2.9 rating. On the very first head-to-head show, Nitro won by a 2.5 to 2.2 margin, which shows just how much the TV popularity of wrestling grew in a short time. In comparing television ratings for WWF and WCW throughout the 90s, the fact is, WCW dres almost identitcal ratings in 1992, significantly stronger ratings in 1993, the same year they couldn;t fraw flies at the box office, and 1994, well before there was such a thing as Nitro. Nobody knows this because, until the Monday Night Wars began n late 1995, nobody cared about ratings because ratings did not correlate to revenue, and making money was, and still is, the real name of business. Even though it was the low period of the company, particularly 1994 and 1995 at the gate, WWF was easily outdrawing WCW during the same period, although Hogan was the king of PPV and Hogan;s big shows were outdrawing most of the WWF shows. By 1996-97, WCW dominated ratings and PPV, but WWF was still just as strong on live events, because they sent all their stars on the road, while WCW's wrestlers were taught to believe house shows didn;t matter, and a star should only have to work Nitro and PPV. When the wrestlers appearing didn' care, fans quickly figured out they don't need to care either. When the wrestlers on TV came across like they don't care, the TV audience figures it out as well. In late 1995 and early 1996, both sides were dueling equally in the Monday Night ratings, which became the most real fight most wrestling fans were aware of in following the game, for a few months. As a company, WCW was clearly gaining momentum as it had its eyes opened and was scouring the world signing up the best undiscovered talent, and stealing concepts that Paul Heyman both created in ECW, or took from other companies abroad. Bischoff made the next big move, to increase NItro from one hour to two, which coincided with the debut of Hall and Nash, and WCW started winning by a sizeable margin every week. Hogan's heel turn at a time when it appeared his career was over, as people were expressly tired of his act, suggested by Bischoff, saw the company catch on fire, and they did several monster buy rates, including through the usage of basketball superstar Dennis Rodman, in particular a tag match with Karl Malone which was the media peak of the WCW empire. Without question, the greatest angle for business came in 1997, when WCW spent much of the year keeping Sting in the rafters and he never wrestled, and he didn't appear on every Nitro, as the mystery crow gimmic, to lead to a title match at Starrcade with Hulk Hogan. The show ended up drawing a 1.9 buyrate, about 640,000 buys, which included an appearance by Bret Hart, at the time the hottest wrestler in the business stemming from the Montreal match. WCW was so far ahead, it had all the talent, the war seemed over. In comparison, Wrestlemania that year, headlined by Undertaker vs. Sid Vicious and Hart vs. Steve Austin in their now legendary I Quit match, drew 237,000 buys That was also the beginning of the other end of the faustuan bargain. -
Loss, do you know how many installments they plan on having?

Hulk Hogan & Randy Savage v Every Heel In WCW

Speaking of dangerous and deadly phenomenons, do you have the Chamber of Horrors match at hand? -
But what about Bad News Brown's work in the ring? Can you direct me to any matches that were worth watching for work value or historical value or even markout value? Probably not. I don't really have to. Adrian Adonis was John Heidenreich or Gene Snitsky-level embarrassing during this time though, so I'd probably vote for anyone else against him. I still don't see how Bad News did anything better than the feud with Piper.

Man, you told me to be prepared but I had no idea this was coming!!! -
Val is a Libertarian, but that's neither here not there. I'll go with Val because he's a much better worker than he has been given credit fot, while Snow is given credit for being a better worker than he was. Fair enough. I should have just said conservative... esp. since Val is Canadian and doesn't have a voter's card here.

What was the date? Was it in '85?

Can anyone recommend any good chris Candido matches? I don't think I have ever seen one worth tracking down.

Various News and Notes... ---Jack Black will be starring in a pro-wrestling based movie about a Mexican priest who moonlights as a wrestler to save an orphanage from closing. It is inspired by the legacy of Fray Tormenta. In the 80s, the U.S. media would hype the popularity of lucha libre with stories on guys like Tormenta while ignoring the biggest stars of the period like Perro Aguayo, Atlantis and Santo. Meltz compares this to a foreign crew coming over and running a story on Gillberg while ignoring Rock, Austin and Foley. ---Andrew "Test" Martin is cleared to wrestle after being out for 9 months. His demands in order to appear: -$2500 plus a $375 agent's fee. -Round trip transportation from Tampa and a hotel room -A 50% deposit paid up front with the rest paid in cash before he wrestles. Meltz says that most big names on the indies ask for between $750-$1500. ---It is rumored that The Rock will play He-man in a John Woo adaptation of the MAsters of the Universe. Supposedly, even Rock isn't aware of it. ---The lineup, so far, for the 6/10 Hardcore Homeocming show: - Terry Funk v. Sabu v. Shane Douglas - Justin Vredible v. Jerry Lynn - Raven v. Sandman - C.W. Anderson v. Kid Kash - Scheduled to appear are the Eliminators and 2 Cold Scorpio ---After just three weeks, Terry Funk's book is going into its second-printing. ---"The Death of WCW is also goin on its second-printing and has sold more than 14,000 copies. ---Jacques Rougeau is hopeful that Hulk Hogan will wrestle him at his annual wrestling match at Molson Stadium. Meltz doesn't think it will happen. ---XWF videotapes will start advertising in the same vein as the Girls Gone Wild series with late-night infomercials. HOgan is allowing them to push the tape series around his match with Curt Hennig. ---Nobody in TNA has received any money from merchandise. Wrestlers were given a letter saying they wil lreceive merchandise checks for 2004 with a 20%added for the delay.

Gotta go with Rotunda all the way, solely for his run with Windham in the US Express.
-
Al Snow without question. Plus, Val is a Republican. I always vote against the Republicans.
-
I go for Terry Funk for two reasons... 1. His short run in 1986 when he was teaming with his brother getting decent matches out of far inferior opponents and 2. While I hated the Chainsaw Charlie gimmick, his Wrestlemania gimmicky hardore match was far better with him in there than if any other wrestler was in there. I can't stand Rikishi's dance. Horrible, horrible stuff.

PLease give me the feuds or matches that Valentine had that are worth seeing from this time period because I would love to track them down. Also, Valentine was part of Rhythym and Blues. *barfs*
