Dundee was December 1983-September 1985

Slater replaced Dundee

Dave having to explain Ann Calvello & Kerry Von Erich to people on Twitter just because he tweeted that their names were mentioned on the DREAM show was great

Bash wasn't as bad as Starrcade.....Starrcade should've been the switch.
-
Low-Ki was dressed up as Agent 47 the lead character of the Hitman saga.

I was looking at some old wrestling mags from 1987 yesterday Apter and non-Apter and this was around the time that the Million Dollar Man gimmick was being born and every writer was shocked that the "master wrestling technician" DiBiase was using cheap tactics. It wasn't just Meltzer it was the mags too.

You know we talked about Sting being booked horribly to death in the HOF thread but think about how shitty Luger was booked over the years. My god.
-
Yeah but Goldberg didn't have to wrestle at every event. Make his matches special attractions and only for PPV's
-
Well look at how they have handled Taker's WM streak that is the big deal every year now at WM not any other match. If WCW booked Goldberg's streak like Taker's WM streak the sky would've been the limit.

I think Brody was at his best actually in Texas All-Star with Gary Hart....he was a total fuckin badass there driving the ambulance to the ring and just kicking dudes asses. TASW was a very underrated territory in late 85-early 86 which died when Hart when back to World Class full-time after Ken Mantell dipped
-
They still are great friends
-
Brody booked World Class in 1987 but was removed because they were doing abysmal business. The next year saw the business come back so Brody's success as a booker shouldn't be looked at as one of his good traits.

Buck Robley has said that Brody was on his way to WWF in the Summer of 1984 but backed out at the last minute. Whether that's true or not who knows but Buck was extremely close to Brody and has credibility in past stories in fact Buck flat out has said that he was the one who advised Brody basically to screw over promoters and only look out for himself.

For those who haven't read it.....Dave's obit on Rip Hawk in the WON is fantastic. It's Dave at his best.

I've seen the Brody/Duggan comparisons here and people forget this but Brody was Duggan's mentor and Duggan created the early version of his Hacksaw gimmick as an homage to Brody. Duggan of course would surpass his mentor in every way but he was a template of what his mentor could've been if he would've been a team player instead of stiffing promoters and wanting to be over at all times.

I grew up with 80's wrestling and to me it still mostly holds up and at times even better now than then. Almost all the territories would die of course but until more 70's stuff surfaces which it probably won't this is what we have to remember the glory days.

Just curious how much DiBiase from 1979 WWF has anyone seen.

Dory had a run in Florida in 1981 where he was just beating on people with forearms although still boring ol Dory. I always dug the Australian Rules match with Mike Graham and it was around that time he had one match where he beat on 4 guys at once.
-
Luger almost made my list as he had just turned babyface in December 1987 and was cutting the promos of his life but I haven't seen many matches just the promos. His first babyface promo at TBS studios had that place so quiet and attentive that David Crockett even noted that he had never heard that place that quiet before.
-
Ted's whole technical deal was pretty much fluffed up by Sam Muchnick and that crew because they were building him for a NWA title run.
-
Depends on the Dory matches.....Dory had some runs where he didn't do the technical stuff and just was beating guys up with forearms.

This is who I'm currently digging since all I've been watching lately other than WWE is 1987 JCP. 1. Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane.....these guys were coming into their own as a team at the end of 1987 and were having some of the greatest squash matches ever plus you had Big Bubba Rogers then Dick Murdoch as their muscle in their feud with Dusty & Nikita. I just watched Eaton & Chris Champion have a really damn good TV match tonight and it was easy to say that Eaton was a top 20 guy in the world with Lane being solid as well. 2. Ronnie Garvin.....Ronnie was just an awesome worker who did so many different things in matches where sure you had similar moves but it never felt like the same match. 3. Dr. Death.........Doc was transitioning over from UWF to JCP and came in suplexing guys all over the ring. Doc was getting screwed by the booking here but was having fun matches. 4. Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard.....these guys were so great as the new champs here working all kinds of teams while starting to feud with Luger. They were having near MX level TV squash matches as well. Tully was peaking as a worker while Arn was coming into his own and they were just below the MX as a team. 5. The New Breed......This team had so much potential it wasn't funny as both men were young and raw but Champion was becoming a damn good worker and Royal had the potential where when he added the right weight he would've been a top big man. They were doing double team moves that no one has really done since and their promos were awesome as well.

There is a definite history there

Ole was one of the last of the old school tough guys and he & Gene projected an image that few have ever done. You bring up wrestling to people in my area over the age of 40 that don't watch anymore will bring up him & Gene.
