  1. I started last year going through all the joshi from the 1980s (the main stuff) and starting in 1990 very thoroughly and I'm up to 1992. By 2026 I hope to get caught up to 2017 when I started watching. The Shimmer pod is getting me through that footage which is important. Outside of that, there is a few other folks I need to explore which will happen whenever, plus the Watch Parties and putting together those playlists will help. That's my plan for footage watching. This time I am more focused on how great someone is at wrestling and less focused on the greatness of their career. To me, someone who is a 9 for 4 years will rank higher than someone who was an 8 for 7 years.
  2. I will be too, I love these posts by Elliott and I will be going through my embarrassing list.
  3. Hojo is essentially on my list. 5 years being that great is pretty list worthy.

    Villano III

I feel in the exact same boat. Give us recs please!

    Goldberg

Wrath was going great, but I highly doubt it would had been sustainable. I guess we'll never know.

    Goldberg

Ryback. Wrath. etc... They have attemped to push monsters through squashes many times in history, it usually doesn't work out like Goldberg.
  7. Any recs would be awesome!

    Kyoko Inoue

I'm up until 1992 in my joshi watching and I have fallen completely for Inoue. What a tremendous babyface with great sympathetic charisma. Yes, she's a freaking oddball doing bizarre shit all the time, but it's really charming. She sells amazing, and looks awesome in all of her big matches. Plus a giant swing gets bonus points, and super bonus points for adding spins into almost any other moves she does!
  9. Scorpio was the best wrestler in the world in 1996. Was one of the greatest high flyers in wrestling history. Was tremendous in tags or singles, as a babyface or a heel, and for a very long period of time. Feels like someone I need to vote for, but I haven't seen anything from the 2000s on, any recommendations for that?

    Goldberg

I'm sorry you feel that way. I guess you aren't voting for Goldberg. I disagree and there is a good chance I will vote for him.
  11. Few things in wrestling I love more than heels who are committed to cheating! Fuerza rules in that way. Some recommendations please.
  12. The Finlay match in Smash FUCKING RULES!!!

    Goldberg

    YES!!

We have vastly different opinions on what garbage wrestling is, it seems. I haven't seen the Taker match, but all the others are all super fun and some are awesome.
  15. Join us! Also please don't feel like you need to watch every candidate. There is too much footage to tackle, nobody can do it all.
  16. What we watched on the Watch Party: vs Sara Del Rey (SHIMMER Volume 1, 2005-11-06) vs Davina Rose (SHIMMER Volume 41, 2011-10-01) vs Kana (SHIMMER Volume 46, 2012-03-17) vs Kylie Rae (RISE 13, No Ropes Submission, 2019-03-29) vs Thunder Rosa (Hurricane Pro, 2019-07-27) vs Jordynne Grace (The Summit, 2019-08-10) If you want some other great matches, you have the MYC with Meiko, vs David Starr from Beyond Uncharted Territory (2019-10-19), the Iron Man match from RISE with Tessa Blanchard. Those should give you a good rounding view of her, but I could throw in more if you would like. Top 25 may be too high, she may not last there and definately some bias there. Top 50 is very reasonable though.
  17. One of my favourite matches of the decade. Gives you a great glimpse of how awesome Mercedes is.
  18. Just finished the watch party on Mercedes and yeah she's a top 25 candidate for me. She's so casually charismaticly bad ass! Her selling and facial expressions are off the chart. She's extremely smart too in the ring, and can easily adapt to almost any situation. More hype please!
  19. Today at 1 PM eastern, the second watch party. We are covering Mercedes Martinez today. If you want to listen in to the voice chat or join in, go to the discord: https://discord.gg/2tqvKBK2WA If you want to join in for the watching and the text chat, go to here: https://sync-tube.de/rooms/Jkq0zhPhaw
  20. Shimmer 05-07 (so far). Everything is logically built with character development. Shows are easy to watch, because undercards are kept short and are angle and character development. Wins and loses matter. Upper half of the show has great matches. Amazing commentary too. Love it so much.
  21. On a Legends of the Ring, he was asked who the greatest Canadian wrestler was and he said Archie Gouldie, and then when someone tried to argue with him and say it was him, he didn't back down.

Richeyedwards said: "Someone primarily known as a deathmatch guy this student of jun kasai, while excellent at that has also had good runs as a straight laced jr heavyweight in both singles and tag in all japan from around 2015-2018. He also in more recent years gained some measure of notoriety among watchers of American indie wrestling where he took part in a couple of bloodsport shows, where he had the opportunity to show off his background of a 16-4 MMA record. His 2017/2018 is a truly exceptional one for a deathmatch wrestler where he held the BJW and Freedoms titles the two main deathmatch titles in Japan at the same time, was BJWs biggest draw, main eventing multiple arena shows and wrestling the likes of Masaya Takahashi, Ryuji Ito, Abdullah Kobayashi, Jun Kasai, Isami Kodaka and Minoru fujita in the process."

As good of a pure mat technician as anyone who worked in Japan in the 1970's. Inventor or at least popularizer in a pro wrestling sense of the gutwrench suplex. Supposedly the inspiration for Misawa to sport long green tights."

She's one of my favorite woman wrestlers and I think she is an interesting case of the best Joshi who has made her career outside of the most important groups. I love the fact that there's a very romantic touch in her career story, how she resurrected and reinvented JWP, and how she had managed to kept her name and birth day secret as far as I know. I love that something like that is possible in 2021. She also has great athletic abilities which can be seen in her participation in the Chikara King of Trios, but where she really shines is on the mat."
