This feud just had no juice and Billy is clearly outclassed in almost every way. Rock put poison ivy on Billy's ass and tells a girl to pancake her ass back to Chicago.

[1999-08-16-WWF-Raw] The Undertaker, Big Show and Chris Jericho
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
Taker did not seem happy but Jericho was getting some face pops this time around saving the crowd from an awful promo from Taker. He was put in a no win situation here. -
Good heat and action looks fine even if it does feel like a 1992 time warp. Rick Steiner is there and still feels out of place with these big names. Sting helps Hogan out and Hogan pins Steiner. We get a bit of stand off between Hogan and Sting after Hogan kisses Sting.

Good upset win here and Page looks vicious in his post beatdown. I liked the story of Kimberly coming out to calm him down. This felt like a promising feud.

This seemed overproduced and cheesy which is not a good sign for a first vignette. I don't really see it being as effective as the Borga stuff we are seeing in 1993.

[1999-08-15-NJPW-G1 Climax] Keiji Muto vs Manabu Nakanishi
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
Nakanishi wins in a big upset but I can't imagine what they saw in him besides his size as he has been pretty terrible throughout his career and now is outright abysmal.- 5 replies

[1999-08-14-WCW-Road Wild] Hulk Hogan vs Kevin Nash (Loser Must Retire)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
Again no heat here. Fuck you Sturgis. Hogan gets the hulk up and retires Nash. Bobby was clearly on auto pilot and Tony trying to salvage any emotion he has left does feel hollow and that the viewer is watching a nostalgic act. I think this would have played out much better in a different arena. -
[1999-08-14-WCW-Road Wild] Randy Savage vs Dennis Rodman
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
I thought this was fun for what they were going for. The action felt personal which helps excuse some of the sloppiness. The port o potty spot is memorable. The crowd really sucks ass here not paying attention or reacting to much of anything until they go backstage. Then they chant bull shit. Savage picking up the win felt like the smart move and him and George are reunited. My favorite thing Savage has done in 1999. *** -
Action looked ok from my vantage point and I actually applaud the finish as it felt shocking and good way to push SId.

[1999-08-14-WCW-Road Wild] Harlem Heat vs Kanyon & Bam Bam Bigelow
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
So happy this is the last year the PPV was held in this vaccumm. The action here doesn't look all that great and booker T winning the tag belt at this point feels really beneath his plateau. -
Taz promo game is still top notch but it feels like he doesn't really have that one threat that he needs as the ace of the promotion. Tajiri was getting there but not quite there yet.

[1999-08-14-MPPW-TV] Wolfie D phone interview / Arena highlights
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
The bump WOlfie took from the top of the cage was great. This was a hell of a promo and again Power Pro is firing on all cylinders with multiple interesting things going on at the same time. -
Bradley does feel like a lost prospect based on what we have seen here. Cornette and Hales have another go between and Kevin Christian being in the middle of everything makes the angle that much more effective. i really think 99 Power Pro may contend with most years of the 90's for the best Memphis television besides 90-early 92 and the USWA/WWF feud.

[1999-08-11-NJPW-G1 Climax] Shinya Hashimoto vs Masa Chono
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
This should have been the G-1 final. The work with the STF was so gripping and dramatic. Hashimoto is shooting up my ranks with each performance of his. Shockingly, Chono has been on a hot streak to between his 93, 96 and now this stuff. The work here felt really compelling and two guys that didn't want to lose at all costs. ****1/4- 6 replies

Unsure what to think of this and think it could sway with multiple watches. This time I found the work on the mat to be engaging and a good bit of back and forth between Muto and Nagata. This kind of made me want to see the 40 min Hase vs. Muto match from 2001 that I know is polarizing too. ***1/2

[1999-08-10-NJPW-G1 Climax] Shinya Hashimoto vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
Really good match here. Tenzan works hashimoto over in an effective way and Hash shows great fighting spirit with his comeback without looking goofy or contrived. Tenzan has all the tools to be an effective main event player for years to come based on his performance in these types of matches. ***1/2- 6 replies

Iconic moment from the second Jericho shows up on the titantron. Jericho gives a good promo and I think it is ridiculous for anyone to feel offended as he said some stuff that was totally outlandish that it negated any truth some individuals might have about some of his claims. Him and Rock have instant chemistry with each other.

We have new tag champs and more importantly, Kane chooses his first words to be suck it. Luckily my son chose a more traditional route for his first words.

We learn that Austin was attacked. HHH is shocked and asks what happened.

[1999-08-09-WWF-Raw] Mark Henry and D-Lo Brown vignette
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
D-Lo is training Mizark before Jarrett attacks with a drive by and then leaves the scene. -
[1999-08-09-WWF-Raw] Jesse Ventura, HHH and Shawn Michaels
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
Ventura comes out and has some words that feel like some more shots to Hogan from over the years. HHH interrupts and I think does a good job of not being upstaged in the moment. HBK comes back again and I agree that his cocky persona doesn't really fit this role well at all. Kudos to HHH for being effective currently jumping into the main event scene.
