  1. Scary scene as the match comes to a halt. This felt like the perfect storm of the trap door and Kanyon/Raven no executing the move correctly. Amazingly, Villano walks out on his own. (1/4*)
  2. I don't know if I can transcribe this. I was actually kind of defensive of Warrior at first but we are now six weeks into this shit and its getting really bad really quick. Hogan freaked out in the bathroom was the worst bit yet.
  3. Fantastic match up there with the best RINGS ones. Yammamota is pretty underrated as he has built up quite a bit of excellent matches the past two years. Speaking of, Tamura and Kobashi seem to be in a neck and neck race for WOTY at this point. This featured some great matwork that just moves and transitions flawlessly. However, from that outstanding technical spot, we advance to a more dramatic tone featuring strikes that was complete engaging. I loved the palm strike Yammamota gave and he really milked his standing 9 counts for all they were worth. In fact, they blew their saves a lot more in this match than others which is a nice change from the "saving" strategy utilized in Kohsaka vs. Tamura. I love RINGS so much. (****1/2)
  4. This felt like a work for me and will be ranked accordingly. Mikhali is becoming my favorite Eastern European type shoot style guy. He only has one gear but he is relentless here going after the leg of Kohsaka. Koh fires back and shows the perils of a strategy going awry as he puts Mikhali away once he weathers the storm. Perfect length match for these two at 12 minutes also. (***1/2)
  5. Yep, I really fucking hate this every time and feel continuously sad for Dustin.
  6. Shane is coming back to the ring. Thank god as I havent liked any of his interactions with him out.
  7. We get a National Enquirer being used as evidence against the person Lawler is. That is rich. Baxter comes out to defend Stacy and seems to be developing real feelings for her. We are pretty much guaranteed that the stuff of their affair was a hoax.
  8. Probably the best GOldberg match so far. This feels really big and Sting has a decent shot of winning. I loved DDP on commentary putting him over. Sting shows again that he is better in the role of #2 guy than the main guy as he feels important here but doesn't have the company carrying him. I loved how each man started to change their strategy vs. one another when what they were originally doing didn't work out. The finish is cheap but we get a good glimpse that Sting could have won this match as he has Goldberg in the Scorpion when Hogan interferes. There is so many interesting and fresh opponents for Goldberg that it is amazing how much they botched this title run. (***1/2)
  9. Everyone knows what this is about. This has a level of class and professionalism that is usually unparalleled with wrestling. Flair shows raw emotion and Bischoff is able to show ass. Top 3 promo of the entire 1990's for me.
  10. Tough to watch not knowing what is real and what is a worked shoot. Scott really has fallen since his heights of late 96-97.
  11. These are getting more annoying quickly and dumber too. Warrior has the Disciple. OH NO.
  12. I liked this a lot. It was worked in a good face vs. face style but competitive with both guys aspiring to be the champion. Some tropes of Kidman matches that annoy me in later years creep in but I thought Juvy reigned him in and made him look great. Kidman winning gets a huge pop and we have a nice new star to fill out the undercard in WCW. (***1/2)
  13. I did like this as the conclusion of a long angle. The only person that seems reasonably unsure of their decision is Lodi which makes since too with how much of a follower overall he is.
  14. WWF does feel like they are reloading but this shows how much better a job they did in the year 1998 than now. These arent essential shows by any means but they seem much more noteworthy than the last two months of current day Raw.
  15. Vignettes are funny but probably not the right way to present Regal long term obviously.
  16. I fucking hate Val so much. Biggest heel in my eyes in 1998 and he is getting cheered here. Such bullshit.
  17. Mankind feels a little aimless since SSlam with Kane in the main event picture but this was as best a promo as he could do as a table setter.
  18. I found it odd that ROland would be that much on the line if they were signed. Speaking of which, Roland may be the carniest looking dude in wrestling in 1998 which says a lot. The clips of people watching the match were fun but Jones doesn't have the body and Modest doesn't look to have the size.
  19. This was really bad with Hogan and Warrior not being bothered to go for a title shot but also not feeling like a real personal vendetta but Hocus Pocus bullshit. Everyone looked to be going through the motions as much as they could to get this over with. DDP does secure a big title shot which is a nice nod to his effort the past two years.
  20. Match is pretty fun but I was right there with them in the ending sequence with Kidman setting himself apart and Lodi getting his receipt. Then, we get a great tease with Kanyon hitting his finisher and the DDT by Raven. However, Saturn then just comes up and hits the DVD for the win in very anti-climatic fashion. Some call this a classic and some rate it fairly low. I am pretty much in the middle and indifferent either way. (***)
  21. Agree that this should have at least set up a match at WW3 or something if they had plans for Starrcade and Havoc already. Fun segment with Jericho making short work of "goldberg" (1/2 *)
  22. Jericho lays it on the line and challenges Da Man to a match tonight. I'm sure Goldberg really coveted the TV title.
  23. Good to see the stooges back and they get a nice undercard foil in Snow. I liked this peek with Snow to see what is going on elsewhere in the card in 1998 WWF landscape.
  24. I thought this was a fantastic show and one where I am vague on how much credit or how genius each person was for the overall success. The NWA idea with the promotion of WWF is a fun proposition to think about.
  25. http://placetobenation.com/wrestling-with-the-past-hogan-vince-and-a-vision/ Will and Charles are joined by Parv (Titans of Wrestling, Where the Big Boys Play) to discuss Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon and 1980s wrestling. They discuss the pros and cons of Hogan the wrestler and pop culture phenomenon. They discuss Vince’s vision of wrestling and if he could have been successful without Hogan? Finally, the guys discuss whether or not the NWA product promoted by Vince McMahon would have been amazing. Tune in to this awesome discussion!!!!
