I agree that this match looked like they picked up where they left off on Monday. I don't know about the belt flipping but this was a clever finish with me really biting on the chair shot and them actually getting over the sharpshooter as a finish. THey should have done a finishers match or something between them at the PPV.

Another Dudley Boyz promo. They have been a big focus of 1998 and while it hasn't been great,it has been more consistent than most things in 1998 ECW to me.

I liked this more than Charles and thought it provided a neat snapshot of the attitude era as a whole. I do agree that the build to the highway to hell has not been as focused and well done as I remembered. I prefer the build to Michaels vs. Austin at WM. This got a good bit of time to develop and featured most of the top talent even though I think it was a shame Owen was taken out of the match as he has some fun history with a ton of the people involved. Kane pins Taker clean and regains the tag titles for him and Mankind. (**1/2)

This was awful and Val dumps Ms. Yamaguchi to boot.

Everything comes to a head giving DX problems lately and they are splitting up. It was all a ruse as Chyna shows her ass and everything is fine again. This was the first time Chyna talks and uses her sex appeal. DX tries desperately to get someone to flash them but it doesn't work.

[1998-08-10-WWF-Raw] Mankind, Kane, Vince McMahon and the Undertaker
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
I agree that the gimmick of Kane disappearing and Taker re emerging choking Vince felt more unlinear than anything else so far. I do love mIcks and Vince's interactions any chance we can get it. -
Both NWO as lumberjacks was lame. Meng is hyped at being dangerous which is good and Hogan cheering him own felt wrong considering their WWF history. Meng locks on the tongue of death but lets go for some dumb reason and a spear and jackhammer late gives Goldberg the victory. Afterwards, Hogan hits Goldberg with a chair but there is some confusion as Nash cleans house and has the chair and GOldberg spears him setting the seeds for something down the line. (*1/2)

I liked this during the vetting process but pushed it ahead more on seeing late 98 Luger and what Bret was doing. This time, I thought it was a better stand alone match. Hart takes a deliberate approach in this match but he is just a complete dick doing everything he can to save the US title and taking every shortcut afforded to him. Luger is still able to garner some great heat and his comeback had the crowd rocking. Luger winning the title feels like a nice moment and a memorable moment for the week in wrestling. (***)

Jericho is the new tv champ. The angle of Giant being Jericho's big brother has some legs to it to me and I think he was talented enough to rise above the mediocrity.

[1998-08-09-WWF-Sunday Night Heat] The Undertaker vs Mankind
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
Heat with a big time main event as Kane attacks Mankind and Mick does a ridiculous bump through the table. Kane of course reveals himself to be Taker. -
[1998-08-09-WWF-Sunday Night Heat] HHH on Pacific Blue
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
These girls love flirting with WWF stars. HHH displays his acting chops on Pacific BLue. -
1998-08-08-WCW-Road Wild] Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff vs DDP & Jay Leno
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
How awful was the finish of this as Jay loses count and looks about blown up on the rudimentary stuff he performs, they didn't even trust him to do the diamond cutter as Kevin delivers that. What a trainwreck week for WCW. -
[1998-08-08-WCW-Road Wild] Chris Jericho vs Juventud Guerrera
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
Jericho had been too far removed from the Cruiserweight division for quite some time and I stand by the fact that June should have been the end of the Malenko feud. Here we are again with them back and forth. Road Wild seems cool in concept but terrible in execution. -
This week has been a down week on the Hales vs. Lawler feud. Unlike the Austin vs. McMahon stuff, there were other foils to keep the angle hot. Here, it feels pretty much like them two and all bit players.

Big match today and Lawler name drops his filming of Man on the Moon and Jim Carey by name. Hales and crew find this the opportune time to kidnap Stacey.

[1998-08-08-NJPW-G1 Climax] Genichiro Tenryu vs Shinya Hashimoto
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
I loved this series because of the strikes. The punches Tenryu gives here is incredible. My dad watched this match with me and was blown away by the variety and brutality. Tenryu winning felt a little odd and my turn your turn but I appreciated the feud they were portraying here. I could watch these two slug it out for days. (****1/4)- 6 replies

I have no idea why Kanemoto and Wagner are partners and this was an incredibly disappointing match given the talent and the roll they have been on. The action was there but the story wasn't and as a result the match felt by the numbers. At least Otani won the support of his father for one night at the finish. (**1/2)

That picture about sums this up. Apparently both companies wanted to try to one up each other tonight on the tasteless scale.

[1998-08-03-WWF-Raw] Taka Michinoku & Val Venis vs Dick Togo & Shoichi Funaki
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
Taka doesn't take long to turn on Val and lay the boots to him. I would have liked to have seen Kaientai get a longer rub in the WWF in serious feuds. (*) -
This has been an interesting little mini feud I didn't remember. Decent match but not a ton of time given. Due to distraction from Chyna, HHH hits the pedigree and the victory. (*3/4)

Probably the worst thing I have seen in 1998 so far. They tried so hard to make this edgy and groundbreaking and it just seemed lame and tasteless. I really hated this and thought this episode of Nitro maybe more than any other so far this year, showed the huge problems starting to really swell around WCW.

Scotts 4 Life, but not 4 me line was delivered good and got a pop but Buff as the dog face, felt like a hollow attempt to create the parodies the NWO did last year. Buff of course has no where near the heat he did a few weeks ago as a face. Rick finally comes out and pops Scott in the face with a chair.
