[1998-08-24-WWF-Raw] Bart Gunn vs Bradshaw (Brawl For All)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
Shawn is doing commentary after his surprise arrival to help out Chyna. Bart makes quick work of Bradshaw and wins the Brawl for All. Why didn't they insert him into a feud with Shamrock or someone to build some momentum. -
Much better use of female abuse than that crap with Bischoff and Kimberly. We also get the debut of Sexual Chocolate which gives Henry some legs for years to come. Rock has really came into his own and now is a top 3-4 mic guy in the whole company.

I was shocked at how violent and good this match was. Mick took some sick bumps being drug through the table, the steps right on the back and Kane's dive with his head wedged into the cell. The ending with Austin sneaking under the ring and Taker being trapped on the outside was really clever and I love the added insight that McMahon was raising the cage to protect his investment. (***)

XPac pees very loudly.

The pop of him coming down the gurney was great and he rams into the apron. Mick then gives a stirring promo in front of his hometown fans setting up tonights main event. The plight of Mick throughout the year has been really fun and special to watch.

[1998-08-24-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan & The Giant vs Goldberg & Kevin Nash
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
Team WCW looks like an add for AARP running down there. I can't believe Roddy is still hanging around. Nash and Goldberg have more miscommunication. Shouldn't these guys feud and not be friends since they aren't on the same side?- 3 replies

[1998-08-24-WCW-Nitro] Booker T and Stevie Ray / Bret Hart vs Booker T
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
I guess Stevie took the place of JEricho? Anyway this was completely dumb and unnecessary. Feels like I'm typing that way too much lately in regards to WCW.- 4 replies

Well we get another generic Wolfpac promo but they call out GOldberg and here he comes with the fans buzzing. All Goldberg does is you are on and then he runs away which makes him look like a coward and the crowd is deflated. Bad planning by WCW.

Rock sets up the final showdown between him and HHH. THis was a good showcase promo on Heat even if Shane wouldn't shut up throughout it.

Really good six man with a clear heirarchy and allowing AKiyma and Ogawa to take center stage. I don't know if this is Kawada's first match back but him vs. Misawa feels like a secondary issue here. I loved Ogawa being a prick using punches, eye pokes and hair pulling. Him gaining the upset with his trusty rollup got a big pop and put that match to the forefront of what looks like a well booked card. I really enjoyed this. (***3/4)

Match looks like a good bit of fun and Kobashi team look to have the match in hand when Taue and Honda makes a comeback. Taue ends up pinning Kobashi to set up their triple crown match. Ace attacks Kobashi after the match to a big pop and that split is official. Jun Akiyama makes the save and a new team is officially born.

This was a very good match if not a bit dry at times. I did like the attention to the arm work again and the sell and fatigue as the draw came closer to fruition. Satomura continues to be a hyped worker I enjoy a good bit but havent really been blown away by that one performance just yet. This yet again was a very good match but not a great one. August 23, 1998 was a good day in joshi. (***1/2)

This was a fun terrific performance by both women. It combined the craft aspects of Kandori and combined the athletic never stop attitude of Toyota. The table dive spot was especially brutal. I really enjoyed the finishing sequence with the arm work being resulted in some crafty reversals and nearfalls feeling earned. Kandori getting the submission was a nice moment. This was a really great match in an extremely down year for Zenjo. (****1/4)

Baldie is an only in Memphis chant. Hales asks Stacy to come out and he starts laying in the questions. Stacy met Lawler when he was a happily married man that gets a big OHHHH from the crowd. We also get the instigation that she is shacking with Baxter while Jerry is on Raw. Hales has the telephone bill to prove it which I would like to examine. Finally Baxter comes out and says enough is enough and that it is time the public knew of their love for each other. Lawler decides enough is enough and decks Hales before being chased by two weird looking body guards.

RVD is being attacked by the Dudley's and pretty much a face now. Sabu comes out but so also does the Triple Threat. Candido reaches the top rope with both on a table but here comes Taz. Candido takes a scary bump diving over and barely missing the table. Taz is circling the wagons with the crowd chanting New Triple Threat. Not a fan of this at all and Taz and the Triple Threat feels so played out.

Sunny is back and not going to wear the conservative clothing she was restricted to before.

Shane and Joey bicker again. Can this arm be healed already?

I didn't really like this. Taker repels down but it is actually Kane. Him and Austin get in a pretty good brawl but JR and King are confused on commentary and things feel too convoluted to me. The reveal of Taker driving the hearse was pretty cool with Highway to Hell firing up but stuff feels a little too contrived overall.
-
I appreciated people wearing street clothes. This felt like a good worthy blowoff to the Nation and DX feud with Nation coming out on top. Good pan shots and stiff shots all around. Billy Gunn is busted hardway and HHH bleeds and gets beat down with a ladder by the Rock. I enjoyed Jarrett coming down and beating up XPAC setting up their hair match at SummerSlam. The Rock looks really strong as the segment closes. (***)

[1998-08-17-WCW-Nitro] Chris Jericho vs Chavo Guerrero Jr vs Stevie Ray
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
Giant helps Jericho win again. Will be interesting to see how long this lasts before it is forgotten. I liked Chavo being unhinged and untrustworthy in this match.- 3 replies

[1998-08-17-WCW-Nitro] Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in August 1998
The pop was cool and impressive. Hogan's reaction was hilarious and he even gets in a gangbusters line about Warrior being dead. Warrior says that Hogan has never beat a Warrior which is a good point. Then he wont shut the fuck up. I seriously changed a diaper, washed bottles, and folded laundry in the time Warrior drowned on and disappeared. Not a promising start.- 6 replies

Do I have your attention now Eric. This was a great promo with Eddy speaking from the heart but there didn't feel to be a lot of direction to it and Eddy never really grew from it. Still, for all of Eric's faults, he had no promo with people coming out and doing these inside promos as he was starting to lose grasp of the war overall.
