I can't get over that people thought Wright was better as a face as his dancing act is tremendous here. Very fun simple Nitro level match with both guys playing their role well and everything hit solidly. I really liked Jericho's shoulderblock to the outside. Big win for Das Wonderkid

The 'funny' scroll at the bottom about Le Femme Nikita is back. The ref bump on this was dreadful. Shawn is insulting Bret on commentary then decides to interject himself. This distracts Bret and we get a huge upset against Bret 6 days before his title match. Hebner's slow count was dreadful.
-
Yeah, I dont think Bret has the natural charisma of say someone like Dusty or Flair in their heyday but his role here in 1997 is the perfect combination of his experience in the business and knowing what worked for the most part coupled with him projecting his legitimate pent up frustration backstage with his onscreen role. Probably my top 1997 best on interviews front runner along with Hogan and Austin.

Kane vs. HHH Judgment Day 2001 I almost can't believe I am typing that out but this match was really good and featured a focused attack from both men. It also isn't overly long, has a great pop for the finish, and utilizes the stipulation.
-
Two most memorable things here were the enema line and the fact that a new commissioner will be named. I enjoyed the fact that Hart was focused on his main event scene at SummerSlam.
-
Rude takes off the fanny pack and means business as their partner. He immediately turns on Dreamer/Sandman which makes them seems kind of stupid and unpopular that they couldn't find another partner. Beulah's bump was brutal and Fonzie wont stop blowing that whistle. Rude locks the cage and with that were out.
-
The dive off the cage was impressive but then they just continue to wrestle which is kind of dumb as that should have been the direct spot leading to a quick finish. D Von is outside of the cage for some reason if escape the cage doesnt win. Bubba hits a move on New Jack but hurts his ankle in the process and the Gangstas win the tag straps. That feels like it stunts the Dudleys growth as they have been good in the stuff we have seen on the yearbook and should have had an extended reign.
-
Maybe my favorite stand alone Doug promo. His 1994 stuff was good but felt so recent with Eddie that it could honestly feel like a cheap knock off even when he tried to differentiate. This was a good sincere feeling promo from Doug.

Jerry is full on shill mode today with an action figure and a Memphis newspaper that had an article on Kaufman vs. Lawler. JC Ice interrupts him defending ECW and getting some big heat by Lance Russell himself.

I'm with Childs on this one. The match does expose some flaws that can happen within the style as it was a 20 minute bomb fest essentially but I did think it was critical for Taue to set that tone initially off the bell in order for him to look like a threat. The nodowa spot off the apron was one of the craziest spots I can remember seeing and was really well timed. I have always been a huge fan of Misawa's selling and that coupled with Taue's desperation offense had me really invested in this match. Finish is weird and like last month we have a german suplex finish which has become the go to move for Misawa following a botch. I don't really know where overall this falls on the series but I do consider this a great match and that increases the amount of great matches these two had.

Thought the last 2-3 minutes we had here looked pretty hot but 29 minutes feels like a long time for most of these guys. I was also surprised about Doc pinning Kobashi because I always have the OCtober 1997 Triple Crown defense in mind that felt so throwaway.

Yesterday, after making the pilgrimage to my parents house, I dug through some old VHS tapes and found an old compilation VHS tape. Watched Ki vs. Daniels from 11/3/01 and thought it was very good and built to a nice conclusion without blowing through too many spots. Refreshing to see this match with a hot crowd get over without doing too much and having a very sensible conclusion with Daniels winning clean.

The thought of extended yearbooks has certainly crossed my mind but the biggest restraint I see is the lack of variety from wrestling promos except WWE/TNA. I believe cherry picking the best WWE promo stuff from this year would probably be comparable to the 1993-1994 stuff for the most part, but one thing that is refreshing with a yearbook is that you are usually only 20-30 minutes away from a different promotion or landscape to check out. Even some subpar stuff like some ECW or a lackluster USWA tv episode is refreshing when you have watched 1-2 hours of Japan and lucha footage. I think you could get by somewhat by just mixing in the different kind of indies but I am not sure how it would look from a end product standpoint. I understand having "wrestling history" displayed in this format is very appealing to myself and there is a ton of hidden gems I have never heard of before my yearbook watching.

Interesting concept in that this match as the previous posters have mentioned was a vehicle to get to Santo vs. Casas but the action within this match was really hot. It started out heated and maintained that tempo throughout. The finish with Casas saying F it and beating down Santo after Felino got tripped up while a little inconclusive was still a good non finish. Great match just a step or two below their super match earlier in the month. Kind of reminds of Cotta vs. Rocca in a way from the 1980's lucha set.
-
This was a good match but both Raw and Nitro had tag matches this week and while this was probably the better match in ring, the WWF one had more heat and felt more integral to me in the grand scheme of things. That is not to say this wasn't heated as it was but you can start to see how WWF is slowly gaining momentum even though WCW hasn't made any huge gaffes yet.
-
Mysterio's promo was timid but kind of worked. KOnnan is able to look like a bully which is effective for him. Luchadores making the save for Rey was a cool moment since it has been engrained that Konnan gave them all a chance in WCW.
-
Really quick hype job that I guess was the peak of the first hour as we don't see either in the closing segment coming up. Good solid buildup for their match together and they have gotten really good at keeping Hogan's physical contact apart from his opponents at times.
-
Stevie was good here but this feels like it has been drug out way too much and Ravens apathetic character doesn't play well in retrospect.

I knew Charles would comment on this shirt. it is awful. Syxx making fun of Flair never gets old and he claims Flair came back because he spent all his money. Some things never change. Flair goes to walk away but sucker punches him to a big pop and we get the main event set up.
-
I remember this interview vividly because of Hogan and Bisch laying in the ring. Hogan does a good job putting over the importance of the title and he accepts Luger's challenge.
-
I agree that the contrast of the styles is what worked best for me as Tariel felt like unlike a few fighters or wrestler in that he didn't really have one punch knockout power but would just maul and wear down his opponent. Tamura has certainly been a standout in 1997 so far.
-
Not a very good match and sort of weird to see Foley/Taker team up but it was super heated and featured a really good exchange between Hart and Austin. The win for The Harts felt like one of the last big moments for the Hart Foundation. They also have done good not to have Hart vs. MIchaels touch even though there may be real life reasons why that hasn't happened.

Shawn is backstage and got attacked. Vince is back there and Shawn and him get into a little altercation.
