Loss
The crowd is SO hot for this. They cut a fast pace and wrestle an exciting match. The work isn't super compelling, but it's solid, and the crowd reaction really makes this something special. This feels emblematic of the Attitude Era as much as any TV main event we have seen so far. Rock is FIP, which makes him look like a million bucks holding his own against the top two monsters in the company. He looks even better when Henry and D-Lo turn on him, because now the odds are stacked in a huge way. Austin ends up tied in the ropes with no tag team partner but manages to free himself. One of Vince's (masked) security guards comes out to attack Austin and it turns out to be Big Boss Man, who looks years younger than he did in WCW and has gotten in great shape. Undertaker goes after Austin's knee just like he did Vince's while Vince looks on in his wheelchair with a smile on his face.
soup23
Awesome hot main event with everyone working hard and a molten crowd. This does have a capture in time quality to it. The finish was good to with the Big Boss Man being revealed as a henchman for Vince in a great moment that got insane heat. (***)
PeteF3
Nitro made a gallant effort, for the most part, but it just couldn't compare to this. This isn't a spectacular match, but it is well-worked and the insane crowd elevates it to something special, almost like the famous Dallas 10-man tag a year and a half after this. Rock looks good at FIP and his comebacks are strong, especially when he gets Kane up in the Samoan drop which looks like and is sold as a great feat of strength. The masked SWAT officer reappears, as Vince had warned Austin earlier that he would need eyes in the back of his head. Austin takes a nightstick shot and gets worked over, and Vince is happy as we go off the air, once again counting the minutes until next Monday night.
