dexstar
I'd pay like $49.95 to watch Halloween Havoc on PPV. Killer card.
Beast
MACW Halloween Havoc Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro North Carolina October 29th, 1983 Scott Casey & Dutch Mantell defeated Bob Bradley & Ben Alexander in an extended squash when Casey hit Bradley with the Bulldog while Mantell stomped Alexander in a tree of woe. The Tonga Kid & Blackjack Mulligan defeated The Vachons when Mulligan picked Butcher up for a big powerslam and while turning knocked Mad Dog out of the ring with Butcher's legs. Mulligan finished the slam and Kid came off the top with a headbutt for the 1-2-3. Tonga played face-in-peril and Mulligan had some fun moments with both Vachon brothers. Hector Guerrero defeated Terry Taylor with the Guerrero Clutch cradle. This started with an extended sequence where they traded quick moves like armdrags and dropkicks to show how evenly matched they were. After a flurry of close two counts, Guerrero offered a handshake out of respect. Taylor hesitated, but eventually accepted only to be hit with a knee to the gut. Guerrero continued the onslaught of cheap heel moves for much of the match, only for Taylor to begin making a comeback towards the end. Taylor got a very close two with a sitout gutwrench powerbomb and then went for his flying forearm, but Guerrero moved out of the way and pushed Taylor towards the ropes causing him to hit his neck on the top one. As he lay on the ground gasping for air, Guerrero slipped on a rolling stretch cradle for the 1-2-3. After the match he hit Taylor with a double underhook suplex and jumped to the top for a Frog Splash, but was then chased off by The Tonga Kid and Blackjack Mulligan. NWA WORLD TELEVISION CHAMPIONSHIP Terry Gordy © defeated Curt Hennig with a powerbomb. The mutual respect between these two fan favorites was obvious as there was no cheap shots attempted even though the action became very fast and furious. The Greensboro crowd wasn't too familiar with Hennig, but his charisma and exciting style soon won them over. Hennig made Gordy look absolutely monstrous with some impressive bumps, but was able to give it back just as big with his own belly-to-belly suplex getting a very close near fall. Gordy attempted a back suplex, but Hennig flipped out and hit an inverted atomic drop followed by a perfect dropkick for another close near fall. At the end Hennig climbed up Gordy's shoulders to attempt a victory roll, but Gordy was able to block him and turn him around and hit a big powerbomb to retain the belt. Both me shook hands after the match and Gordy raised Hennig's hand as a show of respect. David Schultz defeated Nikolai Volkoff with a piledriver. This was a surprisingly quick match as Schultz attacked Volkoff as soon as he entered the ring, tossing him through the ropes to the outside and continuing the beating at ringside. He sent Volkoff up and over a guardrail and as Volkoff made his way back, hit him again with a backdrop on the floor. Before throwing him back in, Schultz sent him into a ringpost busting him open. Back in the ring the bleeding Russian hit a desperation low-blow and began choking Schultz out with his wrist tape. The referee finally noticed and made Volkoff break the hold, so he went to grab his Russian flag, but before he could use it Schultz kicked it out of his hands and hit with him a hard clothesline. From there it was all over as Schultz hit his flying corkscrew elbow and a piledriver for the revenge victory. Before leaving the ring Schultz draped Volkoff with his own Russian flag and yelled to the crowd about how he would be getting his title back. NWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP The Freebirds (Hayes & Roberts) defeated The Russians (Kruschev & Markoff) © to win the NWA World Tag Team Titles when Hayes pinned Markoff with a DDT. The Freebirds were all business here and continued Gordy's winning ways (and Volkoff's losing) by finally winning the titles. This was ten minutes of quick tags and fast action, only slowing down when Roberts was briefly stuck in the opposing corner and The Russians took turns clubbing him on the back. At the end Markoff held Hayes up for Lenin's Tomb, but as Kruschev hit the ropes, Roberts was there to pull them down sending him up and over to the outside allowing Hayes to hit the distracted Markoff with a DDT (while still being held up in the bearhug position) for the win and the titles! The Russians threw a tantrum as Gordy came down with his Television title and all three Freebirds held up their three titles! NWA IRAN (UNITED STATES) CHAMPIONSHIP Dusty Rhodes defeated The Iron Sheik © by countout after David Schultz taunted Sheik at ringside causing him to get distracted and counted out. Rhodes was very popular with the Greensboro crowd and was able to feed off of that energy to come very close to winning the belt back for America. Sheik was hit with a number of elbows, both bionic and original variety and even came off the top with a flying crossbody to almost get the win. Sheik focused on Rhodes' back and torso with shots to the body and an extended abdominal stretch. He did strap on the Camel Clutch, but after Rhodes refused to quit, he let it go to jump up and down on his back. On the third jump, Rhodes turned over and hit a desperation knee to Sheik's midsection to double him over and allow Rhodes to begin to fire back. But Sheik was again able to cut Rhodes off with cheap shots behind the referee's back, including a toss over the top rope which led to Schultz coming out. As Sheik and Schultz jawed, Rhodes pulled Sheik out knocking him silly and allowing Rhodes to beat the count for the win, but not the title. . MAIN EVENT Ric Flair & Roddy Piper defeated Stan Hansen & Kevin Sullivan when Flair pinned Sullivan after he was accidentally hit with a lariat from Stan Hansen to win a title shot against NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race. This was major league quality main event with Piper's return to Greensboro electrifying the crowd. Flair & Piper's chemistry was on point, but there were a few moments when it looked as if Piper might steal Flair's title shot for himself, including a close call where he had his sleeper on Sullivan. Flair debated breaking up the hold, but decided against it as Sullivan held his hand up on the third try regardless. Hansen was a total madman throughout the twenty seven minute contest and both Flair and Piper bumped handily for him. Sullivan got his licks in too, but was also used as a punching (and chopping) bag for Flair and Piper. Flair was hit with the lariat relatively early on, but had the presence of mind to roll out of the ring and luckily this time Piper was there to make sure he got back in before the ten count. Hansen got a couple of near falls with his back suplex and powerbomb (reminiscent of Terry Gordy), but each time Flair was able to kick out. At the end, with all four men in the ring, Hansen threw Flair over a turnbuckle, but Flair did his trademark flip and ran down the apron to the next turnbuckle and came off the top. Hansen moved back and Flair hit nothing. Hansen charged at Flair with the lariat, but Piper kneed Sullivan in the back, bumping him into Flair, which in turn moved Flair out of the way and allowed Sullivan to be knocked out with Hansen's Lariat. Piper moved to get the pin, but Flair beat him to it and Piper hit Hansen with a solid punch to the jaw allowing Flair the time to get the 3-count. Flair and Piper celebrated to the roar of the crowd while Hansen stormed to the back leaving Sullivan out cold in the middle of the ring. kevinmcfl
Now that is a card I would have love to have seen. Love the idea of Gordy as a singles champ and Hayes and Roberts as Tag Champs. I could only imagine the anger in the crowd when the US Championship is announced as the New Iran Championship. Good use of all that the NWA has to offer.

kevinmcfl
Such a well created roster with heels from all the right places makes for great memories. This is what I miss most about wrestling. Today's shows and their PG attitude don't touch on the current events the way they used to. Your promotion has such a great 1983 feel. Keep up the good work and keep the Cold War going!
LowBlowPodcast
I definitely wanted to jump in and put over Halloween Havoc. Just a great show from start to finish and really builds to Starrcade. Flair is primed for Race while you've got a lot of other things building around. The Freebirds finally getting the tag titles is huge news as well along with the Sheik vs Dusty match for the US title. I am very interested to see how Curt Hennig responds and what his future could hold in MACW. The MACW group is perhaps the most premiere in wrestling right now and you've put people in the right spots and really have this set up to be best for business. Keep doin work! dexstar
Great show. Schultz adds a fresh element to the Russia/USA angle that I'm really loving. Sheik vs Dusty is a match I'd love to have seen.
